Yeah. As I often say, the original Hyperdimension Neptunia comes across as a rehearsal for the series character voices in the rest of the series, especially in English. The voice cast is identical in later games, but there's a big difference in how Melissa Fahn plays Neptune here. Many of her lines make Neptune almost sound normal rather than the hyperactive, fourth-wall breaking lovable dork we all know and love from the later games. There are some great Neptune moments in the original, but there are many times when Fahn is almost speaking in her own voice rather than the character's. Amusingly though, Kate Higgins plays IF the exact same later on as well. She got the chuunibyou character down pat right away.
Histy is now the calm-but-a-tad-louder self introduced with Victory's Ultradimension and Blanc will now be even more excited that the Nep from this game
...and to this date, still not one in real life! There's several for the main goddesses, and at least one for Nepgear, 5pb, and Red of all characters, but not one that would make Pirachu blast off a thousand times over? Get on it, daki makers... preferably before the Neptune RPG releases...

I did a complete playthrough of the original Hyperdimension Neptunia for PS3, recorded all of it, edited out all the SLOW and boring parts, edited out all the loading, and replaced a good deal of the soundtrack with the soundtracks of subsequent Neptunia games and also the anime where appropriate because the original game's OST is rarely applicable to the situation the game presents. 2 things: 1) Wow the voice acting really got a drastic improvement over the years 2) Devs lewding their own company's anime persona always makes me laugh
I see this comment a lot on my original Neptunia videos, and while I don't disagree with the basic concept that the voice acting became more entertaining in later installments, I do take issue with the misunderstanding that the voice acting in the original game was somehow "bad". Professional voice actors are at the whim of their voice talent coordinator, who acts as the director for the voice actor. In the recording booth, the voice actor has nothing to go on except for the script. They don't know the context of their lines in relation to the overall story, adjacent scenes, how their lines should be delivered, and usually, don't even have the other actors they share scenes with present when they deliver their lines. In addition, keep in mind this was the beginnings of the characters. Actors who play reoccuring roles eventually learn to understand their characters internally to fully embody them. That didn't have a chance to happen yet. Yet despite this, I still think the voice acting in the original game is quite good, for the most part. Some of the delivery for secondary characters is stilted, but that's because for minor characters, they had even less to go off of. From the inside-out viewpoint, the original Neptunia is a much better game than many other limited budget RPGs.
@@SatoshiMatrix1 Oh yeah believe me I understand it was brand new not even the devs necessarily had a full understanding of their characters. My comment on the voice acting was basic but I avoided directly calling the original "bad" because of this. I mean hearing the acting from the anime THEN listening to this is so noticeably different. Anime you had Nep spunky, energetic, and optimistic and then you have here you can kind of just hear the script being read and Nep being a pretty monotone character. None the less it doesn't make me want to avoid the originals. With all the character development they've gone through and what they've built up to today makes this look back endearing and something still precious. That said I still have yet to pick up any of the games, but I've put pretty much every game on my list of games I want to get. Megadimension VII and Cyberdimension look great and there being the upcoming Super Neptunia RPG I might end up getting for my Switch.
