Hi, this is probably one of the toughest shelters out there, even though it's quite tall it sheds wind very well. However You do need a strong pole, long pegs and good pegging points. ATB Phil
Cracking review, I’ve always had this shelter on my list. I had the Mld dcf duomid which I was too hasty in shifting on as the mid pole bugged me and was disappointed that there was no two way zip for a shelter at that price. How does it compare to your experience with the Mld tents?
Thanks, much appreciated. I am a big fan of the MLD mids I own and have owned several. I think the workmanship on the HMG tents is 1st class, but it is on the MLD tents. There are pros and cons with both, but only really minor stuff. The 2 way zip, the duel mesh covered vents and the heavily re-enforced guy lines on the HMG is a big plus, but the door tie backs on the outer and inner are better on the MLD shelters as is the price, HMG kit is definitely overpriced. I'd say the ultamid 2 is a true 2 man, whereas the duomid isn't in my opinion. Both companies make great gear and any faults are very minor. ATB Phil
Hi, the inner is designed to go at the right hand side, but if the pitching area is limited then the ground maybe more level at the left hand side. Personally I don't think an inner should be designed to go at a specific side. I've actually recently moved it on, due to the fact its alot of monies worth and it wasn't getting the use it deserved. Also I prefer my DCF solomid xl for solo use. ATB Phil
I'm looking for a tipi type shelter that is smaller than those available RN. Something that has a max peak of 4 ft inside instead of 5.2 ft. If anyone has any idea please share some names here. Thank you !!
Lanshan? But the lower the tipi the less steep the walls. So it has to be long enough or the mesh will touch your head and feet. So I'm not sure why the height is a problem?
