Hey Austin, I have been following your videos to setup Hyperspin and Rocketlauncher. I have even been able to setup MAME with no issues. I downloaded all of the files listed here and when I go to launch RetroArch it crashes. On the text dialog box it says "Failed to bind to API"??? Am I missing something? I have also downloaded Directx9 with no antivirus software, running Windows 8.1. Any help would be great. I wanna go forward with my build. Thanks
I'm having exactly the same issues, but I'm using Windows 10 x64. Unfortunately I can't find a resolution. I've tried every suggested fix but nothing works. In the end everyone just seems to give up. Hopefully someone will come up with a solution but I'm not holding my breath.
I am having a very similar issue on windows 7. i see the fade in loading screen, then when loaded 100% windows closes the program. my logs said RL is looking to use D3d for video and retroarch is set for OpenGL. when i set RA to use D3d and tried to run though RL, i got the sounds of the game starting up, but no images. Im still waiting on help from retroarch devs and\or RL devs.
+Sir Gir Sorry mate.... Looks like its could be a few things. first thing. disable your Fade and Bezels. to see if you have any errors popping up and hidden. Next look at the compressed files on/off setting. then look at the extensionsand ensure they match. More info on this on the troubleshooting guide Games do not show or Start I made :)
+Simply Austin , I ve tried to find a module in the links u posted but with no sucess or I an trying it wrong, I saw that u are a module specilist...for exemple...in my case, when I run retroarch for the NEC TurboGrafx CD , first of all, the module says it will use the config of the emulator u r configuring in HS, but as far I saw in my case...retroarch is not loading the config of the wheel of my Nec TurboGrafx CD... it uses the retroarch.cfg (default) so...when I tryied to run the CD Game, it says syscard3.pce is not present in the sys diretory...I ve tried to put that in all the places, edited the dir into retroarch and there is no sucess (just to y know, the emu is working very whell using the cfg of tgcd outside hs...but inside...the msg is that one...sad...lol...can u give me your module or a link to download it ? : ) Thx for all your great job !
For Everyone with 0xc000007b it was on board graphics after stripping my hubby's 3d printer pc of the graphics card and letting windows configure everything it worked every dll error and other errors fixed.....

Awesome. I've been waiting for this. Thanks Austin. Edit: So, I blindly set RetroArch up last night and as I figured it wasn't the proper way. Haha. I set it up on the wheel as an executable program but you had to load the core and ROM manually so you were doing some of the module's job. It worked but it takes away from HyperSpin/HL doing it for you. And you're so right about it being easy to figure out, people really do exaggerate about setting up RetroArch. Once you do it, it's a piece of cake. Also, what cores would you say are the best compared to a popular standalone emulator?
hehehe, I think that would be more complicated than actually setting it up as intended. It really is simple to set up. But in fairness, you do have to know what your doing for some systems. Best systems to run through this are to be honest most of the default core systems. MegaDrive/Genesis SNES NES Master System GameBoy Gamebout Colour and Advanced TurboGrafix etc etc etc. I will be running through each one and showing how to set them up. Also including the artwork, reworked and resized for each system, matching the theme so that your setup should be all matching and looking good :)
Couple of complains here, first I followed your entire guide and never once you mentioned about how to update the builds/cores. Second, though I followed your guide to the teeth, I'm able to launch games on rocketlauncher but not through hyperspin. Forgive me for my frustration, but after 2 days of struggling and trying everything to no avail, anyone would get frustrated. Please help, I know I'm not the only one struggling to get this working properly...
dreadiej2 You complain all you want mate, it gives me feedback as to what you guys want :) Ok first off, updates.... To be honest as of yet, I am yet to need an update for anything in RetroArch. I am still using the exact build used in this vid and I do not require anything else. Everything I run through RA, works fine and they are yet to add any new systems I want :) If you do want to update, I am sure I give a link in the description, fill you boots ;) RocketLaucnher.... Well at the time this was made, it was made for the Hyperlaunch version of Hyperspin. There is not that much dif between them apart from the name and they way they are updated. It will work without issues. HOWEVER!! If you are a non plat member of Hyperspin you will be using version 1.3 of Hyperspin. This has issues with the new version of Hyperspin. If you are a plat member you will be able to download version1.4 BETA. this has no issues with RocketLauncher, 1.3 does :( Easiest way is to make a COPY of Rocketlauncher exe. Rename the copy to Hyperlaunch exe. this is a work around until the 1.4 becomes more stable for general release. But please bare in mind. this is not a job for me, I do this just to help you guys out. I too have a family, full time job and a life outside of this.... its just a hobby. Once the RocketLauncher updates calm down, Hyperspin releases a stable version of 1.4 I will make updated versions of the vids like this. Until the dust settles, if I made them they would be outdated in days, leading to messages such as these constantly! Hope this helps you out mate and answers some of your questions :) Have fun!
hey Austin thanks for the videos again. I have a question. I've run and set up retroarch from your link. after I check it and play games in rocketlauncher my computer goes completely weird. screen goes blank speakers make some weird noise like they are grounding out. I have no function with the mouse, keyboard or controller. it doesn't happen with any other EMU. any help is much obliged
Oye, mate. First off, big up for these walk through guides. Really appreciate you taking the time to work and troubleshoot with people. Right then, I'm running into a problem trying to set up NES (and I have Super Mario Bros 3 Rom) - When I download RetroArch with your provided link (or even the latest nightly from buildbot) I cannot get RetroArch to run outside of Hyperlaunch. When I run the version linked in this video...I get 'RetroArch [ERROR] : : gfx_ctx_init :: Failed to bind API (#0, version 0.0) on context driver "d3d" message. I follow the rest of the guide by note success. I also want to mention I followed this guide to install HyperSpin and RocketLauncher: www.hyperspin-fe.com/topic/2187-how-to-install-hyperspin/ --- so I do not have HyperLaunchHQ in any directory. I assume I need to configure it in RocketLauncher? Also when I run the audit, RocketLauncher does not find my ROM....so I know it definitely won't run (even if RetroArch works when I run Hyperspin). This is a major PEBCAK issue I know, but I look to you for help!
Conray Joasaint wow... you have me even stumped on this as seems you did a hell of alot to get this fixed and now I am not sure where your at mate? hehehe. From the initial problem it sounds like you may not have DirectX9 installed? All you may have had to do is download it and install it? Give me a shout, tell me where your at :D
For those people getting a "Failed to bind to API" error using windows 10x64, I "downgraded" to windows 7x64 today and Retroarch now works perfectly. I've spent 2 weeks chasing this issue and tried every suggested fix with no luck. Everybody I spoke to with the same issues just gave up in the end. Everything is exactly the same, the only difference is windows 7 instead of 10 and now it works.
ok I followed this exactly..twice. I am getting the error: Could not find "TITLE OF GAME" inside the archive with any defined rom extension. Check if you are missing the correct rom Extension for this rom for retroarchs extensions, enable rom match extension, or correct the file name. The romset is the latest no-intro set, and the rom names match the database. Infact they all audit green and show up in rocketlauncher. then when i try to test them, i get the error. Im not sure what the problem is. any idea? The only thing i have done prior to this is setup hyperspin 1.4 and rocket launcher per your video tutorial. this is the first system i was trying to install.
So I followed your initial guide of setting up HyperSpin and HyperLaunch. I actually used HyperSpin 1.4 and RocketLauncher and I think everything went well. So next step I want to try and set up NES. So I'm following this guide and downloaded your RetroArch file and extracted it but when I try to run it I get this error message: s18.postimg.org/4wdejkzzd/retroarch.jpg I then followed your other guide of What You Need Before You Start and tried launching RetroArch again but still get the same message. Jason Parisi Looks like its kicking off with D3D. So either you dont have direct3d gfx on your PC... Direct X or something is wrong in the setup. Do you have a 64x machine? Plus that cnd box? Do you have it enables in RLauncher?
Simply Austin I have 64-bit PC computer with Windows 7. I don't know what "cnd" box in RLauncher you are talking about. I haven't tried to run the RetroArch through Rocket Launchet yet. I only got to the step where I download the RetroArch Master file, extracted it and tried to run it by itself. That's when I got the errors. Thank you for mentioning direct3d gfx. I did a quick google search for that and came to this page (storefront.steampowered.com/v/gfx/apps_extras/17420/Support/EA%20Help/Direct_X/_Direct3D__or__D3D__Errors.htm). This told me how to open the "DirectX Diagnostic Tool" (dxdiag) and check my drivers. I had used the "Intel(R) Driver Update Utility 2.2" on the Intel Website to automatically find and update my drivers and it seemed to work. However "dxdiag" was still showing my old driver. It was also showing that all 3 of the DirectX Features were N/A. So I went back to the Intel site and found the specif driver I needed and installed it directly. After the installation was over and rebooted my computer I went back to "dxdiag" and it showed the new driver date and it showed the 3 DirectX Features were now enabled. It still showed my old driver version number though which I though was weird. But I tried loading up RetroArch anyway and this time it loaded up so whatever I guess. Still showed some errors in the command window but it works so who cares, right? yeah mate... that would have been it. Your OS looks like it stopped it creating or editing files within RA. Glad you got that working mate :) Give me a shout if you have any more issues :)
Having real difficulty installing this. Windows 10 32bit user. When I attempt to open rretroarch for the first time I get a message from windows saying that windows is unable to open this app. Have followed the instructions and installed the directx9 with the link above but still no joy. Is there a way around this? Could I use hyperspin and rocketlauncher without retroarch and just use seperate emulators? Thanks and big thanks for all your efforts here- really helpful.
Hey Austin, I have another question if you wouldnt mind helping me out... How do I get the HQ4x Shaders to work and always load. It's not in the main presets when you use (n/m) to cycle through them in game. I can't seem to get it to load or save right. Any suggestions? I really prefer this type of shader and I'm losing my mind trying to figure this out. Thanks ahead of time and great video's. I couldnt of done this or hyperspin without your vids. Kudos mate!
Daystarz I beleieve that it has issues when toggled with the n/m keys. It only like to have them loaded from boot up (With some cores). Also, I have not tested this myself. But I have been told that some cores will not work with some shaders... as in the shader is not compatable with 3D rendering. Although I think that is only 1 or 2 due to the way its rendered. If it is a problem shader. You have 3 option. 1. See if you can load it in the GUI menu (F1). It may only turn black as it only likes to boot. But save it in the config as per the vid tut. and reload it again to see if the shader/render thing works. 2. Edit the cfg file yourself by hand pointing it to that shader. 3. I think the Module selection for shader for the core MAY superseed the cfg file.... Again I say "MAY". I am not sure which one will win the battle of configs hehehe. It may even confuse it more :) Again, not all shaders work with all cores. May just have to see. Also there are lots of shaders being made and used all the time. Google around to see oif there is any that have been updated or invented that you like. Theeres 1000000000000s!!!!! hehehe Hope this helps mate :)
Hey Austin....I've been following your videos and getting my arcade cabinet all setup. Everything has been going good until Retroarch. I've got a strange glitch that I'm not able to solve.. In my cabinet, I have an arcade button that is the "SPACE" bar on the keyboard. After launching a game (different systems) with Retroarch, as soon as I press the button that is the "SPACE" bar, my PC acts like I hit ALT-TAB. Retroarch goes to the background and hyperspin comes to the front. I manually hit ALT-TAB to get back to Retroarch and from then on...the "SPACE" button works normally for the controller assignment its setup for. It no longer acts like an ALT-TAB key. Any ideas? All games and systems run great once that initial first "SPACE" (alt-tab) thing is done. I've scoured the web and forums...but so far, haven't found a solution.
Yo Austin do you maybe know why Retroarch acts like crazy when trying to run MAME with bezels? It's really weird, like it would target HS instead of the game. It will also defocus whenever I try to run a game trough HS or RL. The game runs and instantly it will pop back eather HS or RL window. Here are two screens to kinda show you whats the deal. i.imgur.com/e6wJLCd.png i.imgur.com/PqgKoUm.png Sometimes magically it will work but most of the times it will put the bezel under RA (I'm guessing it also targets HS instead of RA).
Hi there, i'm following your guides since 3 days ago, i'm making an old pc to work on my arcade machine. (Athlon64 3000+, 1.5RAM, Fx5500, winxp tiny 32 (i cannot find a 64 one). I'm getting troubles with RetroArch, assuming your executable is for 64 bits based SO, because when trying to run retroarch.exe, i have the following message "retroarch.exe is not a valid Win32 application". Can i just download a 32bits one and just paste it onto the retroarch folder? In order to get the configs that are already in your download. Thanks for the videos :D.(and sorry for my english, isn't my first language)
Yes I think its due to the fact that this is a 63 bit version. So in theory, you should be able to take the working parts from a 32 bit version. However any configs from any part of the other version will need to be weeded out. Like I said, in theory this will work.... I cant say if it really will. Give me a shout of you have problems :)
After a few hours of research and trying. I found a version that works on xp32bit. But i'm getting troubles running it. I got this: "Failed to load library, error code: 0x7e" on the console. And then, retroarch run on a black screen and nothing else. I can't run the gen plus gx like u do in the first try on the video. :c
ensure that you have updated and even have directx 9, all runtimes are up to date and c++ etc. Dif emus need dif things, best to just install everything :)
i did install all things (dx, .net c++ runtime, etc) It's seems like it doesn't work anymore on winxp32 :c. I will try the mameuifx video Maybe some 32bit support would be great too. Looking into the files from that tutorial, seems to be the 64bit version of the emu too. I'll try to follow that video with the 32bit version and let u know if it work :). Thanks for the quick reply.

For users with WIN 10 and missing DirectX 9 dll's. To fix the missing dll's use www.microsoft.com/en-nz/download/details.aspx?id=8109 to install the End-User Runtimes directly from Microsoft. This takes out having to download a potentially dodgy .dll from a random site or figuring out what to copy and paste from one machine to another. After downloading unzip into a new folder on your desktop and then click on DXSETUP.exe and follow the prompts. You should then be able to install and run RetroArch. Hope this helps! +Simply Austin, no problem. Windows 10 won't allow "traditional" installation/rollback of DirectX9 so this is the best way to go. Glad I could help and seriously, your videos are really good. For Windows 10 users this falls into what you need before you start as well. I built my machine and cabinet a year ago, I like to think I am smart, but I never had it fully working with HyperSpin UNTIL I stumbled on your videos yesterday. Thanks for putting out these videos. I am a newbe when it comes to hyperspin and these helped me tremendously. My question is in Retroarch/Input Settings. On your video for USER 1 Device Type: it says Joypad/Auto. Mine only says RetroPad and RetropPad w/ Analog. Is this because I am using a Xbox 360 Wireless controller?
Love the videos. I've been following them all the way (even with the 'waffling'), but this Retroarch thing is killing me. I want to give up on it, but I know it's going to keep coming up, if I continue to follow your videos. So...hyperspin 1.4, rocket launcher and MAME work well (thanks to your vids), but even with this vid, Retroarch will not generate 'green' game roms with Sega Genesis or SNES. I can get SNES to work well with Snes9x, but not with Rocket launcher or Retroarch. Any thoughts?

Been following your vids all going great im running hs1.4 and RL set up MAME works great now following this, Im with you all going fine till about 18:30 when you click a rom from games list and hit launch to test it and nothing ever opens i tried waiting several minutes incase but nothing. I run retroarch outside of hyperspin and it can load and run roms fine, but not through the rocketlauncherui games tab. also tried in hyperspin itself and yea i can select the wheel etc pick game but nothing ever starts. TL:DR Rompath=correct Rom extensions= correct Emulator path set correct roms audit= green emulators and roms run outside of the frontend correct Cannont launch from audit screen therefore cant launch through frontend period
Hey Austin, my build is 99% done! But the final 1% is very important! Retroarch isn't saving my button configuration. I'm using a Xin-Mo Dual Arcade, I map everything, plays fine, save config, replace config, buttons are all reset. The config actually saves them as the default keyboard buttons. But it is saving anything else I update ie. shaders. Any thoughts?
Hi Austin, great videos etc, think I have now watched 70% of your videos as trying to get my hyperspin all set up. I have spent all day today going over this video but even though I have tried your download version as well as the latest retroarch download I can not get a game to run in rocketlaunch. All my genesis roms show up the audit but every time I try and launch one with the rocket I get a fail message of "could not find "Aladdin (USA)" inside the archive with ant defined rom extensions". Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks you
+Chris Retro Try going to the specific emulator in Hyper/RocketLauncher, in this case select Sega Genesis on the right hand side, in the main tabs then select settings, scroll to the bottom in the settings area and make sure Match Extension is set to true. This is probably too late but hopefully it will help someone.
+Jaris Almanzar nice work guys :) I'm guessing you have .md files inside the zips. You can also add that a a file type to that emulator :) just glad your up and running though mate :)

Hi Austin, how can i upgrade retroarch to the lastest version 1.3.2?... It seems have a better look and suport more emulators. What files i have to replace to Master v1. Please keep doing this great tutorials for hyperspin, we are anxious to wait for new consoles!! Awesome Job mate!
The only 2 ps1 games i could not play were chrono cross and legend of dragoon on the epsxe emu.chrono cross freezed and dragoon graphical issues.would they work perfectly on RetroArch?i have core 2 duo 2.9,4gi ddr3 and onbord grafics x4500,would that be ok?
yes mate... it's often the case. ePSXe is great but it is not fully comparable with all games. my go to emu is RA for PS1 with multi discs used by ePSXe or Xebra

dumb question im sure and i just got finished reading through all the comments to see if I could find an answer, but im setting up a hyperspin for a buddy, mine works along with a xbox360 controller works great thanks to you but his is using the x arcade tank stick and for the life of me I cannot get the controls to sink up at all when I go to configure them and I think I have it done I loose control of the menus like the z/x buttons don't work on my keyboard anymore and the only way to back out is to use the escape button which loses all conf anyway. Ideas?
+Brandon Hughey Its the keys.. you have to enable keys. This can only be set directly in the configs for this build. Look at the BACK configs, they haev it enabled
hey Austin, thanks again for the guides, i have Retroarch running via RL on my windows 10 Pc. I am having weird issues with the size of the screen though, maybe i'm being fkn lazy haha but any 4:3 games are sitting on the left side of my wide screen monitor, i have to use the custom setting in video to shift it across, as i said, probably just being lazy but is there a setting i can change that will center the video for all different systems in one hit?
+james dimmock They are set that way as its been configured to be used with Bezels. There is a way to do it if you delete all the configs, but then you loose all settings. Its made so each system has its own config file... its a pain but it only needs to be done once for each system. I could have done it for you, full screen stretch and 4:3 etc... but as everyones display has dif resolutions, it would still have same issues. Sorry mate :(
can anyone help me please. I have installed retroarch have it all working, all systems everything. but when i try and configure my arcade controls it will not work. Im using an ipac 2, when i try and bind it goes through the process but then i cant move the selection. i have tried everything so any help would be great cheers.
Hey I'm having trouble getting my wired xbox 360 controller to work with retroarch 1.2.2. Is there a driver or setting I need to use to fix this? I am on a Mac and the controller works when I check in system preferences with the tattiebogle installed. Thanks!

i set everything up in hyperlaunchHQ.. when going in after and setting rom path in hyperHQ I start hyperspin and press enter to start a game i get nothing??
Are you using HyperLaunch or RocketLauncher. Either way, have yiu set the ROM EXTENSIONS EXATCLY how they are for your games or files? More information on that in the troubleshooting section. Cant get games to show or load
Love these videos. I did my game audit and they are all coming up missing. I have them in HyperSpin/ROMS/NES...They are all .7z files and they won't populate. Any idea? I've double, triple checked my extensions (it's not THAT hard, right?) with no avail! HELP! I'm running Windows 10 off a Surface Pro 3.

Emily Gardner sounds like a driver or graphics issue. ensure you have the latest drivers for your Graphics suited to your pc or GPU.Also ensure you have Direct x 9 installed for future gaming :)

+tombml I'm on holiday and don't have my computer so can't really tell you the exact version but I found an old 32bit version and put it in the pack Austin prepared :-) Will tell you when I come back home if you're still searching!
Can retroarch support non-standard dinput controllers that go beyond 12/13 buttons? or are all the extra buttons not seen. I remember this being a problem for my all in one controller. It was just simply not support well enough to be useful. Is the program still rather keyboard/mouse unfriendly? Does it still forget your settings from time to time and require you to redo everything and does it just refuse to save your settings often enough to be frustrating?
Any idea why it can never find my ROMS at all? Got them all in the right directory etc but when I run an audit (mega drive) no games are ever found :-(
+Simply Austin Sorry mate - forgot to remove this. I watched your fix it guide and got it to work :-) - used one of the renaming tools and job done! Now to try and work out the PSX stuff cause I can't get the ini to recognise any games in that even!
So i followed everything and it was working fine when i tested the game first. Then i modified the controls and tried the same shader as you and all of a sudden when i start a game it sounds distorted and static-y and runs super slow. Did i do something wrong? or how can i fix this?
You add sharers it puts much more stress on your cpu. more cpu, more shadaers. if you still want to use them. turn off v sync, that should save you some cpu to use for shaders
+Simply Austin so for now if i delete the new config file i made with the shaders and rename the old backup one to normal it will go back to normal right? before i added the shaders?
upod21 Take a look at the Hyperspin and Hyperlaunch installation vid again. When setting up Hyperspin you have to go to the settings directory and rename the dxwnd.dll file. Its hard to explain here but that vid covers it in detail. Good luck! Any problems get back to me
The file dxwnd.dill was labeled (EXAMPLE). got rid of the Example and named it .ini now it works. Now the only problem is getting 7z Extract path to work. It says AppData\Local\Temp\HS doesn't exist.
I can get N64 working fine in Rocketlauncher but I cant get it to launch in HyperLaunch I get an error something about a module? I have gotten other systems working by finding the ahk file in the hyperspin modules folder for the system I am configing and renaming them to the file it is looking for but with retroarch I cant seem to get it to work, what am I doing wrong
I cannot get controller settings to save,, everything works when testing in resume content in retroarch menu, but when i save config and then try to start from rocketlauncher, nothing works. anyone have any ideas?
catchafishllc Sure thing mate. Its prob the wrong extensions. I guess your are .gen or something like that. Take a look at the troubleshooting, games not showing up. That will guide you through the process
Austin - this video was great. Thanks so much. I'm just getting into all of this. Been at it for about 2 weeks and have been scared to try retroarch. After your video, I was able to get quite a few systems loaded and running great. Couple questions. 1) When an updated Core is released, can I simply drop that in my Core folder or will there need to be config? 2) How do I install a system that isn't listed here? I'm trying to install AAE for example and nothing loads. There doesn't seem to be a core specific to AAE, so I'm not sure where to point it. I'm having the same delay that Pieter-Jan is, but I can try an older system. I'm sure #1 is an easy answer, but hopefully you can put a video up for the non-traditional systems like AAE or something like that.
With a new core.... in theory, you should be able to just drop the core in and it will use any config you already have for that as long as its the same core and just an update. Be aware, no point in updating cores that already work fine... just makes headaches. If say for example a Amiga core that works I will update it.... but no point in doing it for others that work fine. AAE is best to run through MAME. Follow my MAME guide for that one. Plus today Im making a Classics Arcade release. Included in that is the kind of information you need to enable a new system like AAE Hope it helps and thanks for the comments!!
Love all the videos so far, but I am stuck on trying to get retroarch to work on an old dell desktop with windows pro 32 bit... after several different reinstalls, Ive had error messages suchs as something is missing, not having the correct information for windows 7 32 bit, and the program automatically freezing up. Anyone have any suggestions?
+bstodghi08 I read in the comments section that others had the same issue. seems they downloaded the 32 bit version and used the settings from mine to get them setup. Should be more info there if you need it mate :)
Any links or suggestions for how to setup inputs using a keyboard? Im using a 4 player arcade cabinet and not joysticks. Also.... my retroarch menu is only giving me 4 seconds to bind each key which would be hard to setup when setting up with a keyboard that I have to check which key corresponds to my arcade cab controls.....you didnt have a timer in the vid...any way to turn it off? thanks for your vids!!!
You can set them in the config using a text editter. However some of the configs have BACKUP written on them. some of these have keys sorted. take a look see how they are made :)

Huge work from you. Speechless! I got it working 1st pass. Just one question.. Is there a way to to have a global input for my joypad loaded for every system (global) and then modify it for some systems? As i have many retro-sys which need only 2 buttons, i would like to start with this config..
Riccardo Bocci Yes this is possible. However you would have to start from scratch making configs they way I showed you on the vid. Just backup all the configs, set one universal on and take it from there
i figured out how to do everything but how do you get it to show the games in full screen retroarch is full screen but when i open a game its in the corner i can go to settings by pressing f1 during emulation and change the aspect but everytime i quit it goes back to the corner and i have to change it again.

Yah i did, i kinda resolved the problem by deleting the whole thing and downloading a finished version of arcade punks in the future i will tackle trying to build it ground up i am still going to add some systems that you are adding, also keep up the great work and awesome video.

Hey Austin, Love the videos, vote everything up that you ask for and then some! I have an odd issue. I am running Windows 10 and have followed you previous videos to a T so far. When I try to open Retroarch here (outside of Hyperspin) it sends my monitor to a blank screen. Things are still running in the background (your youtube video) but I cant do anything. I ALT-CNTRL-DEL and need to sign out to get back to a normal screen. Additionally, if I extend my monitor (to my TV) it works fine... but then gave me "System Thread Exception Not Handled Error" at one point. The only thing I can think of is that in Win 10 I am unable to install DirectX9? Any thoughts? UPDATE: I downloaded the latest version of Retroarch and overwrote files from your package. I can run and play games in windowed mode, but it blanks out when trying to go full screen...
Great work but when I Audit my games they show up red not green and says No in the found column. I can play these games in fusion with no issues. Any ideas? Update: I semi figured it out. In order get the games to be recognized by Hyperspin I had to go into rocket launcherUI in the emulators tab and select "Generate Database based on rom paths and default emulator file extensions". This got the games working. HOWEVER, (Sorry Caps) it won't allow the video snipets I DL'd from EmuMovies to play. I copied the XML file over to the database folder in Hyperspin that came with the movies. That gave me the little preview movies but the games could no longer be found. I generated the database again and the games work but no movies. Any Ideas?
You don't understand the hate for retroarch and I don't understand the love. I have just tried to set it up (version 1.2.1) and it is (still) the fucking worst emulator I have ever used. While I will use fusion for megadrive, I followed your tutorial just to see and oh my god how I hate retroarch. I really dislike the default controls for megadrive so I went into core configuration to change them. I assume its using a 6 button MD pad as it has ZXY but the keys I press for ABC in no way relate to the keys I press on my controller. It just assigns some random keys. SO I assume my controller itself is mixed up and try to rebind them, nope. Even the back and front keys for the menu don't work if I rebind them. I Love the idea of retroarch and every now and again I give it another shot but its fucking awful. Configs don't save either. Anyway, sorry for the rant, excellent video series you have done, it has helped me a TON. Really appreciate it. EDIT: Okay I wiped it and got the latest nightly, problems are solved. Maybe this version will be the one that finally works for me.

Me again, I googled,,, win 7 exe program stopped working. Ive tried all those different steps, also even watched vids from youtube to make sure I was doing them correctly. Ive always used win XP 32 bit. I havent been in computers much last 5 years and this 64 bit is my first since then. A LOT has changed in 5 years!!! My hyperspin works fine playing games ect, BUT I really want to add retroach to it because its came to be quite good for hyperspin application.
Hey Simply Austin! :D im having an issue with my retroarch, when i launch it and am on the retroarch menu (f2) when i try to to move up or down to change different settings it doesnt move by 1, it skips a lot of the options and its very hard to get it on the option i need, is there any way to fix this ? thanks heaps :)
+Simply Austin ive set the ipac as certain buttons, wsad for example, and then set wsad on retroarch as up down left right also. it moves correctly up and down but skips so many its hard to land on the correct menu

Looking at the retroarch master v1 cfg file video_shader = "P:\Arcade\HyperSpin\Emulators\RetroArch Global\shaders\crt\crt-royale\crt-royale.cgp". Unless I have my setup in a (P) drive would that be causing the failed to bind api error? I'm learning as I go here, thanks for the guide.

I'm stuck at the very beginning [obviously a PC noob here] I unzipped it, but when I click on the RetorArch v.1 folder all I get are two folders one names Shaders the other named Systems and four other clear looking folders names table1, table1x, table2, and table2x. Shaders has two Read ME files names Boarders and Docs Systems opens to another folder named Mess and when you open that up it kind of appears like where you are at around the 6:11 mark but my files are only go down to the mid As', something named "Amco"
Hey Buddy, Im using an i-pac ultimate for my cab and having a nightmare with the control config. Going through your tutorials which are fantastic. Got MAME running with the pac no props. having issues with retroarch. Any tips? Or do I have to map all the buttons on the ipac so they don't conflict with any shortcuts in the other emulators? Example - got to a test running on Aladdin and when I jump in game it also causes the game to run in slow motion.. Any advise would be great! Thanks! :)
Thanks for the guide, but I hate that retro CRT line pixel shade you set up. How do I get rid of this? I set it for a shade I like and DO NOT [esc] out. I "z" out and then resume content. But when I shut down retroarch and get back to HS, then re-open a game in NES it is back to that junk CRT shade you like. Not knocking it, just saying it is junk...haha How do I save the shade I like so that retroarch opens all my NES games the way I like them to look?

Hello Simply Austin. I have games on the PS1 system that works, other gives me ahk error but launches anyway, and other gives me ahk error and does not launch. It's games run great with Retroarch (even the ones that don't work with Hyperspin), same version I use with Hyperspin but he doesn't want to run them all. Should be set as standard if the games is compressed mate. She talkes when you open a compressed file. As for Batman, what system you playing it on mate?
I was using retroarch. It runs fine with fusion. Same as znes smooth but with retroarch slow. I'm building my new system the exact way yours is. I'm going down the line. I'm super excited about the Sega saturn
Hi Simply Austin, I have been slowly working through your videos and am a bit stuck with this one. My build is on an older PC and therefore i only have a 32bit OS. The downloads you have provided here are the 64bit version of retroarch. I have gone and downloaded retroarch from the website however it does not want to run any games. is there any settings I should know about if I am setting it up from scratch and not using your download? Simply Austin ok so i have started again, this time my PC is 64bit however i am getting a 0x000007b error when i try to load retroarch. after doing a bit of research i believe i need the redist file from retroarch however, every time i try to download it it fails. does anyone have another link t it?
looks like a Directx or a net framework file is missing from you PC? have you installed all these? Check out my Vid, WHAT YOU NEED FOR HYPERSPIN and then try it mate.

That said having some real issues with Retroarch, on windows 10 x64 and cant get it to run, first had the d3d9 error which i fixed with the dll, now i just get "unable to start 0xc000007b... tried all the fixes i can find, any ideas? Hey Austin, Thank so much for these tutorials, im muddling right along. Ran into a problem here with Retro Arch that has me stuck. I installed and config'd just as you have, but when i went to launch a get from rocketlauncherUI it loads the game, but then crashes out, telling me it has stopped working and windows will close it and inform me when theres a fix for it. Is there a fix for this? im running windows 7 64 bit. I have posted support requests in the forums of all three programs, in hopes that someone else has come across this problem prior and will have the fix real quick for me. Because ill wager, if i dnt get retroarch working, theres little point in continuing along with the tutorials since i wont have the same setup.
hey austin your videos are super helpful man, which is why i come to you with a question....im trying to configure n64 in retroarch with 2 usb n64 controllers. but for some reason when i try and map the controls its giving 2 assignments to 1 button...for instance it will try to configure the A button yet if you try it, it says A and c up is for thay button...i have it set to retropad with analog or digital or whatever and it still wont change. if you try and bind all its acting like i have a ps2 controller layout instead of the n64 layout. ANY IDEAS?
How come the RetroArch link you provide to Mega on my download when extracted is only 202 MB. There must obviosly be something missing as you state in the video that is is about 1 GB, when extracted. Any help you can offer would be very much apreciated as i am following you video series. Does any one have the full download of the v1 of the file as the one i can only download is v1.7 and that is 521.9 MB on the site but will not extract to the 1 GB refered to in the video.
Where does keymapping with xpadder fit into retroarch? Are you better off not even messing with xpadder profiles and just doing everything inside retroarch? Great tutorial by the way,
poshko41 Yeah, one of the best parts of RetroArch is how they have worked on their controls. You can setup anything to play for each system. If your a XB360 user with the controller I have setup 90% of the controls for you. But they are easy to setup for anything :)

Having a slight issue with RetroArch, when i go in to the RetroArch configuration menu i have no control over the selected item, one press up or down arrow and it scrolls 10 places or often more. Any thoughts on what is going on? Making it very difficult to progress
Hey Mate great videos. People make this sooo complicated. i wanted to add something for people that have a hard time with there rom files. It's always i have so many files and why do i have to 7z them one by one. lol. save this file to your desktop then add it into each folder and run it by double clicking and it will put all files in that folder to a 7z each. saves lots of time as a .bat file from windows (.cmd). Must have 7z installed to drive C: then after running delete old files. awesome .bat file. took awile to get it to run right but saves so much time. www.megafileupload.com/iQS4/7zipall.bat

hey Austin, im having trouble installing retroarch, its coming up that this version isnt compatible with my pc. so i tried installing direct x9 and that says that i cant install that because my os is a newer version lol. any ideas bud?
You will need to go to the RetroArch website mate. This is for 64 bit systems. You should be able to figure it out though once you get your head around the program. It's a beast, but with one emulator, you can run over 50 systems :)

Thanks mate. Yeah it should come with them all. Grab a stable build from their website. Use the bios files from my systems folder in the download, that should help
I've used retroarch on my ipad and ellipsis tablet and those were as simple as downloading retroarch, downloading the ROM I wanted and then I could play right away. Now that I'm using a budget gaming laptop I find it quite confusing having to set up and configure all these settings. I'm new to the world of emulation and not very tech savvy. Could someone give me some pointers on where to get started? I downloaded retroarch through the link here but all this other stuff like MAME, MESS, hyperlauch, and all this "emulator speak" is a mystery to me. Can I run ROMs that I download from SNES, N64, PS1, up to PS2 era, etc. just using the Retroarch file as is? I don't care too much about all the extra tweaking of settings and such, I just want to play some games using my xbox 360 controller and learn the more complicated stuff as I go. Can somebody help out a noob ;)
Austins tutorials are really well done as well as show that its all very simple. Even if your brand new to emulators in general. He tells you where to put things in an organized manner as well as provides the downloads you need for art and such. You just need to grab the roms.

Unzipping retroarch right now but for some reason it's taking over an hour or 2 and barely over half unzipped, maybe it's not working with windows 10? Also what do you mean by art, like making the games look more modern? Have a Donkey Kong 64 ROM downloaded. Excited to get it running!

I just finished setting up my systems through rocketlauncher and I have everything working but my one problem is figuring out how to set up the button layout though retroarch, I am using an xarcade and I have it set up perfectly through mame but id like to set it up for games on other consoles which I use retroarch for I have it working I just dont know how to change the default button mapping could anyone help or point me to a useful video thanks.
bruh do i have to re name ALL OF THESE :( i export the names copy and paste on the slightly differently named rom and then the file turns green in the audit, there HAS TO BE A BETTER WAY!
prerender can bring out names games small details to like realustic water reflections,rips,tears,cuts on characters.mame dos not run acrate or the video will be misdung a lot of fine details if you do not over clock mames virtual cpu.mame at default may run acrate butvideosnot.A lot people miss this important options.theymiss out on good game shaders and it also brings out missing liquid smooth character aniation movement plus it boost your frame rate depends on how beefy your system is.
