Took my cat to Virginia Tech to their vet school. They radiated her thyroid and she is now back to normal weight and her fur is beautiful. We tried using medication but she was allergic to it. Yes it was not inexpensive but worth it for her.
My 16.5-year-old cat suddenly lost weight after we went on to trip. 8kg to 6 kg slowly then more... started to throw up often... I didn't take it to the Vet even though I called because I wanted to watch it. We just had a child 4 months old at that time so we thought Dori was getting stressed from the baby crying and us arguing. Brought the cat to my mom's as I do a few times a year and Dori comes back healthy. Lack of alert from my mother she texts me a week after saying his not eating much (super lack of communication) He wasn't eating at all. She call me after 2 weeks and told me to take the cat to the vet I went home and I was in shock.....He was 2.5 kg in bones and collapsed when I got there I try to lift him and his mouth had jelly saliva around the mouth with very smelly. Took him to the vet and passed away after 4 hours while mom is screaming at the doctor after the doctor charged us a lot he passed away in front of me after taking the last two breaths. I found out after my cat had hyperthyroidism. Now I'm in shock. 2 months passed and the guilt and the trauma I went though still hunts me. Time to cherish the moment and think about the good times. I will never see her again.
We have a neighbor living on a fixed income who already has cats and then took in her son's cat who ended up have this condition. She cannot afford any treatment and is spending most of her money on her cats and trying to keep up with the demands of the new cat who is obviously hungry all the time. I tried to find other ways for her cat to get better but the natural treatments can't fix everything. I think it's ridiculous there isn't a way for low income people to afford medical help for their pets. This cat is eventually going to get sick and die from this condition and she can't do anything except go broke by going to the vet. We've created a greedy, stupid system that makes it near impossible for people to take care of animals - unless you're rich.
I agree--my cat had bladder stones and was peeing blood--I spent $250+ at the vet--but they wanted also to do bloodwork which would have been $250 more--$500.00 then I fed the cat Apple Cider Vinegar for about a month which slowly but thoroughly dissolved the stones. Now another cat (I have 4 cats) who is 15 either has hyperthyroidism or diabetes and I hesitate to take her to the vet--I am not poor but am a senior on old age pension. So I'm trying to figure out on my own what to do for her--she is down to 5 or 6 lbs.
Excellent. My cat was just diagnosed with this. He is 14 yo. The vet wants to give him medication that will take twice a day but I am reluctant because he will not take pills. I am still thinking about what to do.
@@tracipeters145 I decided not to go ffor medication for two reason. I have never been able to get pills into him and falls for no tricks. I can't afford to have the money go to waste. If I coud afford it and I had someone who was a get the pill down the cat expert living with me, I would have tried treating him with the medication. He is actually doing very well aside from urinating more than in the past. Good luck whatever you decided to do.
