***** Since when are they doing such high reps? Do you have a link to what you're saying?
@jonnyl21
@jonnyl21 9 лет назад
***** Dynamic Effort Squat for Westside is something in the range of 12 sets of doubles with 50-60% plus bands or chains. Even if we assume that the weights are 75% at the top, .75*12*2=18x the lifter's 1rm in volume. In order to obtain 15 tons of volume, one's max squat would have to be 30,000/18=1667. The all time world record squat is 1267. So no, westside guys do not perform 15 tons of volume (from squats) in a workout. They might use 15,000 lbs., (for example, a 1000 lb. squatter doing 12 doubles with 75% at the top would do 18,000 pounds of volume), but not 15 tons. And they often perform over 15 tons of volume if one adds up accessory movements, but I think ccax74 was referring to volume from squats alone.
@ccax74
@ccax74 9 лет назад
jonnyl21 LOL for the Candito Workout ;) I meant "useful workout". Something like >60% of 1RM. Not very hard to reach a high volume if you only take 50kg or so...

So at 4-5 minutes rest in between sets, including the time to do the sets themselves, this entire workout took you about 45minutes to complete NOT including the warmup? I'm just wondering if I did 64 total working reps at 60-70% of my 1RM as well, but I partitioned it as 16 sets of 4, done with shorter rest periods would that really be that different of a workout stimulus compared to work you're doing?
@JuggernautTrainingSystems
@JuggernautTrainingSystems 7 лет назад
In regards to hypertrophy, higher rep sets are better as they're closer to failure which promotes more growth and the higher rep sets have a greater metabolite effect on the muscles.
@jrg305
@jrg305 7 лет назад
Juggernaut Training Systems so for legs the :45-1:30 hypertrophy rest period isn't true? I thought supposed to keep in that range for hypertrophy training. also, what is your opinion on being overweight for frame size in terms of general health even if it is more muscle? I am getting a thick waist and high blood pressure and waist circumference and am 185 at 5'10. they dx me with high blood pressure recently and I workout about 5 days a week and bike to work.
@TheZooCrew
@TheZooCrew 7 лет назад
185 at 5'10" is not large. Also, although I'm not anywhere close to an expert on this matter, high blood pressure has genetic and dietary influences as well. It's curious that you're getting a large waist at that size.

@Gina-bl1mh
@Gina-bl1mh 7 лет назад
Lots of volume, high reps sets, and relatively low rest all result in hypertrophy. The weight is moving fast because hes a beast :P. He's still controlling the negative. He's just very proficient at bringing the weight down quickly without losing control/divebombing. You're right tempo squats are another great way to build up weak points, but tempo squats aren't required for hypertrophy. volume and control is.

Train slow, become slow. There are many ways to skin a cat but as a strength athlete the last thing you want is to slow down.
@TheSeandog1234
@TheSeandog1234 7 лет назад
That's just bodybuilding mumbo jumbo. There's evidence that a faster negative produces more hypertrophy due to a greater stretch reflex. Also there is a ton of TUT in this workout.
@larrymasterspowerbuildingc4477
when you get that famous lactic acid burn, you have entered into hypertropy. volume= doing lots of reps with the correct amount of weight=lots of that famous burn=hypertrophy. For instance, if you do 20 reps of dumb bell curls FOR YOUR FIRST SET with 10 lbs, that will probably not give your much burn. IF you do 20 reps of dumb bell curls with 100 lbs, you may have to do all kinds of extra movement to move the dumb bell and that will do you no good for building your biceps. BUT IF YOU TAKE 35 LB DUMB BELLS, and do 6 sets of 20 with 90 seconds of rest in between sets and do full range of motion and make sure to do them perfectly, then you will be getting a strong burn, and you will be sore the next day. You will have stimulated the muscles enough to grow---you will have caused hypertrophy to happen through volume with the correct choice of dumb bell weight. AND SINCE THE BICEPS ARE A SMALLER MUSCLE GROUP WITH A SHORTER RANGE OF MOTION, YOU CAN PROBABLY TRAIN THEM 3 TIMES PER WEEK.
