Hard to imagine that Lovecraft could have written this without similar experiences at least in dream if not by other means. His descriptions are curiously accurate.

Against common sense is arrayed a flimsy mass of dream-stuff which under ordinary conditions would be laughed out of court.”
@@kgb333m3 yet writes about the occult, magic, other dimensions, the supernatural etc etc it in almost every story? Yet he was extremely against it? How do you reconcile that statement with the contents of this stories? I've watched multiple documentaries on him and no one has ever mentioned that he hated the occult.
I legitimately thought the twist was going to be that his friend was Nyarlathotep in disguise given how mysterious and otherworldly he was described. Reminds me slightly of the description of the idol in Lovecraft's _The Temple._
I listened to this every night before bed then one night in the middle of a dream I saw something truly horrible which I cannot now fully recount but i must warn new listeners never to repeat what I had done never again to treat such a tale with jest and never again to sleep.
