"Hypotheses". On St Valentine’s Day 1871 Eduard conducted the Strauss Orchestra for the Lawyers’ Ball in the Redoutensale of the Imperial Hofburg Palace. Much of major significance had happened to the 35-year-old since the previous year’s Vienna Carnival. Then, he had been the ‘third Strauss brother’, deemed by many an irrelevance. Yet, by February 1871, Josef was dead and Johann had been released from his duties as Director of Music for the Imperial-Royal Court Balls to concentrate on operetta composition. Eduard was now in sole charge of the family orchestra. The Lawyers’ Ball attracted the most important and influential from Viennese society and the Neue Freie Presse reported: ‘Towards midnight, the rooms became so full that it was scarcely possible to promenade around; dancing was very difficult, and it goes without saying that there was more dancing on the feet of strangers than on the parquet floor.’ The Neues Fremden-Blatt found Eduard’s dedication waltz Hypothesen ‘really charming’-and so it is, with an insistent, gentle, almost caressing opening waltz melody that instantly lodges itself in the listener’s mind.

Thanks again! I was struggling with some negative, unhappy thoughts, and by God, this beautiful waltz by Eduard brightened my day! Each and every melody in this waltz is hauntingly beautiful! 3:50 is obviously inspired by/reminiscent of Johann's "Mephistos Hollenrufe, Op. 101." I particularly like waltz 1A, and the melody at 5:53!

I am. listening to a Sherlock Holmes story. Eduard Strauss visits Holmes and Watson and discovers Holmes' Stradivari. He then plays Wiener Blut by his brother and holmes plays this particualr piece. I was struggling with very bad feelings for two days. Now for the first time they are gone.

Ziehrereien478 - while applauding your enterprise in promoting these rare Strauss family compositions, perhaps you would explain to the unenlightened, including myself, how you avoid infringing the copyright that supposedly protects these recordings against unlicensed use? Thanks!

Hello Michael, for some reason it allows me now, a couple of years ago it was impossible to publish the repertoire, it seems RU-vid has become more flexible when allowing to publish this type of content
