Hot hatchbacks have come a long way from the days of MK1 Golfs and Peugeot 205’s. The game has gotten more serious and track-focused. As the competition heated up and while the usual hot hatch manufacturers were busy shaving precious seconds from their Nürburgring Nordschleife lap times, the South Koreans were cooking up trouble.
With the help of Albert Biermann, the Hyundai Motor Company wanted to find a way into the enthusiastic drivers heart. Alongside the sporty Kia Stinger, they created the Hyundai N division, and pumped out the i30N for the European market, and even went to the North American market with a bit uglier version called the Veloster N.
275bhp, 0-60mph in 6 seconds, limited slip front diff… It sure sounds like they’ve created something special. But have they? We needed to find out!
