900 mile ROAD TRIP!
Sorry for the long delay between videos. This should have been posted in October ‘21.
I gather many would be Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 owners are experienced delays getting their cars due to the microchip shortages etc.
Hopefully this video will keep you interested while you wait.
Apologies for some of the sound quality in some segments. This was a short holiday first and foremost, and although I have suitable microphones, not always the time or ideal to mic up. Weather not the best!
I have annotated those parts of the video and images with text to help.

Pretty much watched every video available on YT since ordering my Ioniq 5 - this series was by far and large the best, just binged them all. Proper review of life with the car, really made me feel better about entering the world of ev. Appreciate it.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I do not consider myself a “RU-vidr” as I have a normal daily job that takes up most of my time. It’s the editing of the footage that takes the most time. Will try to continue to inform. Will hopefully post some more “episodes” soon. MM.

Thanks for the feedback. I had issues with the audio quality with this upload as dodgy weather etc/road noise /using different cameras & microphones etc. Glad you found it useful. MM

Hello Mark! Why not taking the volume down on GoPro material while editing? You're bearly hearable at times. Otherwise great video 😃
@markymarkreviews
@markymarkreviews 2 года назад
Can try it next time. Normally use it outdoors so never played with the volume control. Best to have no volume for in car. iPhone footage by wife has better sound as mainly a front view facing mic so more of an accurate sound on video. MM

You could have simply removed the sound afterwards in your editing program. Honestly, I had to stop the video. I'm sensitive to sounds and listening to that humming in the background was totally unbearable. Otherwise, I was truly looking forward to watching your entire video.

Good vid. Any solution for seatbelt rattle from the rear or did you notice any other trim noises?
@markymarkreviews
@markymarkreviews 2 года назад
I have tucked/threaded the 2 straps of outermost rear seatbelts under the inner aspects of the rear headrests. Sorted the rattle! But I rarely ever have rear seat passengers. Otherwise after 6,500 miles so far, it is a very solidly built car with no rattles at all. Important in an EV as you can hear any small rattle. MM

Do you know why they put the charger at the back? Because if you have a small accident at the front it could make you stranded as you might not be able to charge.
@markymarkreviews
@markymarkreviews 2 года назад
I do understand that thinking. But that may be no different from being hit from behind by another car and damaging the rear socket somehow. And that is the most common road accident type! (Being hit from behind). Probably slightly less risk to the charger socket at the rear. But only just. Just easier to drive straight in to a parking bay and start charging. And with the new type chargers with large screens, easier to read and check all the facts and figures whilst charging. There is no perfect place I guess. Audi & Porsche etc put theirs on the front wings. Safer from road accident trauma but the rapid charge cables not always long enough to reach from what I have seen! MM

Can you tell me the cost of your charges It would be good to work out cost per mile have ordered the ionic 5 though no idea when I will get it

Hi Graham, I have always kept an app, even with previous ICE cars, of fuel costs. EVs are so much cheaper to run than ICE cars! However due to the energy crisis the price of electricity and therefore refuelling at rapid public charge points have increased since the trip was made. However, here it goes: Ionity charge, Leeds : 67 kWh taken on. £16.64 (only 25p/kWh with the Hyundai/Ionity contract. Not sure if that same cost will apply when you get your car?). InstaVolt Keswick: 38.57kwh. Cost £15.43. InstaVolt Kendal: 38.1 kWh / £15.24. MFG M6/J27: 24.85 kWh / 9.69. InstaVolt Leominster: 24.32kwh / £9.73. We left home with a full “tank”. Cost from home starting point, was nominal as we have a large solar system and nearby free chargers for topping up if needed. Trip was 880+ miles. About £81 electricity cost in total. Still relatively expensive as using fast public chargers, but 90% of the time you will hopefully be charging from home, so the normal daily costs are over half as cheap again (but who knows with home energy prices going up?) That is why a solar+/- battery install helps in the long run also. MM

@@markymarkreviews thank you most of my journeys will be local and about 100 miles round trips maximum I have got 3 phase coming into my house soon after a slight battle with electricity north west and cost but worked out well so can get 22kw charger for home will try and get a deal with some cheap night time electricity I hope I get that deal with Ionity as that looks brilliant and they seem the fastest chargers and would work for me if travelling south
@markymarkreviews
@markymarkreviews 2 года назад
@@grahamlewis9633 That sounds like a fantastic set up with a 3 phase supply. Happy Days! Yes, Ionity has become my preferred rapid charger. Great speeds, reliable but also the cheapest cost by far. Now almost half the price of Instavolt (45p/kWh). Just wish there were more of them a la Tesla. The number of EVs is far outstripping fast rapid charge points. Had to queue again today at Ionity on way back from London. Only for 7 minutes but still a delay I could have done without. Was a Tesla driver as well! MM

@@markymarkreviews I heard that Tesla are trialing letting non Tesla evs using their charging system that will be interesting
@markymarkreviews
@markymarkreviews 2 года назад
@@grahamlewis9633 Elon has always said this was always the plan. But governments and councils are putting Tesla under pressure, especially in Europe, to open up, as there is a massive push to EVs now. And this will encourage the move over to and uptake of EVs. Will have to see how they price it. Tesla owners will not be happy as the extensive SC network is one of the main buying points and are already becoming very busy as Tesla cars are so numerous on the roads already. MM
