How far will you get on battery only with Hyundai's new SUV? I show how to easily exceed the WLTP/EPA distances. Hyundais EVs are known for being very efficient, can this PHEV match this expectation?

Thank you for your videos, they are a great help. Can I ask for your advice. I do on average 200 kilometres a day for 3 days per week. Would this Phev be better than a diesel Tucson. I don’t want to go full EV for the moment. Thanks

Hello, How fast can you go with electric only before the gas engine kicks in? 100kph? Can it climb gentle hills on electric power only?
@ecodriver1746
@ecodriver1746 2 года назад
I was going just over 100 kph on electric, on hills it depends how long the steep section is, the motor can produce the 91 hp only for a short period of time (as any electric motor).

If I’m not mistaken, the 13.5 kWh battery is the 85% that is usable. When I charge it from empty (15%) to full my charger tells me it charged around 13.5 kw.
@ecodriver1746
@ecodriver1746 2 года назад
That are charging losses. What will be in the battery is less than what leaves the wallbox.

Also I was debating between Tucson phev and Ioniq 5 that is about $15000 more, considering that I’m not driving more than 50-70 km per day, do you think it’s worth it to go with Ioniq 5 or stay with Tucson phev? Thanks again!
@ecodriver1746
@ecodriver1746 2 года назад
Puh, difficult question. There are so many questions individual to you to consider, I personally have to take a similar decision in about a years time and I am waiting for the Ioniq below the I5 (probably Ioniq 3, comapact SUV).

Finally got to test drive this car myself. It was a cold morning, 5´C. I wanted to test the EV only drivetrain but every time I turn the heat on the gas engine comes on. Was this the same experience you had? How about air conditioning? Can you drive in EV mode only with air conditioning , or will the gas engine come on as well? Thanks
@ecodriver1746
@ecodriver1746 2 года назад
Unfortunately, that's how the system in the Tucson is set up. There's no external heater (like in many others) or energy taken from the battery to produce heat, instead its produced by the petrol engine, which, in my opinion is not a very clever and efficient way to do it. Energy for AC to cool the car will come from the battery, as far as I understood so this shouldn't be a problem in the summer.

Excellent informative review! I placed an order for an escape phev but may take up to one year to get here in Canada; so depending on weather and driving I should expect anything between 50-70 Km on pure ev mode? That’s more that what I’m doing on average daily driving so I shouldn’t feel up the tank only every 3-4 months. May be a problem if the gasoline stays in the tank for such a long time? May affect the engine? Any advise in this regard? Thanks
@ecodriver1746
@ecodriver1746 2 года назад
Thanks. 70 in the warm should be ok, however, when it's cold and the heating is on the gasoline engine is running to provide heat (at least in the european spec). IMHO that's not a perfect solution. Regarding the fuel in the tank, if you know that you don't use the petrol engine it's advised not to fill up completely. Petrol can get bad and then the damage to the engine happens. Personally I advise to use the petrol engine once a month for a couple of minutes until the engine gets warm to avoid damage.

Please help.Does plug in nline already have ecs in standard or is it as an extra option.

Sorry, I only had this car for about 5 hours and had no deeper look into the specs. I also guess it differs from market to market. I guess the best option to find out is Hyundai's website for your country.

What is the average consumption on 100 Kms if you drive with empty battery? And is this state like a hybrid mode of the Tucson 230 HP?

@6:46 you said "AC is set to 19 degrees". Does that mean you are running air conditioner? and ICE is not being used for air conditioner?
@ecodriver1746
@ecodriver1746 2 года назад
If its cooling (it was 21 degrees Celsius outside) the energy comes from the traction-battery, yes.

Hi, how come my new plug in tuscan is showing the petrol range decreasing while I am in electric mode ? Should this not be remaining static ?
