Sometimes we oversimplify issues. We have classical examples in Africa where Presidents after losing elections or serving their full terms set aside the constitution and remain in office till international bodies intervene. Don't underestimate someone who is the commander in chief of the armed forces. We have been quite lucky a country to not have experienced such chaos.
Don't also underestimate the power of the constitution. No so-called commander-in-chief, despite their power, cannot decide to step down after their term. The whole force (army, navy, airforce, police, customs, immigration, media etc) shall descend on him

Nkrumah didn’t do that Kwadwo! He rather manipulated the system in making it a one party state. Even that, there were still parties but the parties were very minor . There was no time he made himself a forever president
