PROVING everyone wrong, a wife and mother has overcome incredible odds to achieve things no-one ever expected. Valerie Lawrence, 36, was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck, which stopped the oxygen from reaching her brain, causing her to develop spastic cerebral palsy. Diagnosed at 17 months, she was told she would never drive, work a full-time job, and that having children would be almost impossible for her. The licensed real-estate agent, based in Peoria, Arizona, told Barcroft TV: “I've always been really hard-headed and strong. In this point America is better than Germany: since my disability got worse l didn't get any job! So l have to take that mini money from the office and l must live from that and l so want to work! They reached for old age benefit for me and l'm just 55!!!! It's so hard! I'm happy that l'm able to believe. Be blessed!

Very inspirational. I have physical disabilities & am currently in a long battle of recovery from 3 major surgeries from back in December. Almost everyday I think about giving up but somehow keep fighting. There’s a lot of doubters & judgemental people in this world but I love to prove them wrong when the underestimate me just like the Mom in this video. I wish her the best.

My 12 year old has mild cp and she loved seeing this! She made 7th grade cheer and even though it's more difficult for her than others, she stays determined. I am so glad your story was covered. People need to see the varying degrees of different disabilities and the strong people faced with them.

Omg we are like the same person!!! I have disabilities causing me to be in a wheel chair I'm married to my highschool crush we have 2 kids and my oldest daughter's name is Charlie. I almost cried when you talked about the struggles of picking your kids up because the guilt kills me though I know I shouldn't be so hard on myself. Thank you for sharing your story. You're a great role model & inspirational.. i have cerebral palsy on my left side & epilepsy.. doctors, therapists used to tell my parents that I wasn't going to be able to have a normal life or walk.. with help from family members, others therapists, parents.. we provided everyone i was going to get everything done.. at 17 i had my first hand surgery & 19 had my second surgery.. now I'm 28 years old enjoying life to the fullest

I am a disabled mum and full-time carer for my son with autism. I relate to how just having no choice but having to get up and do it is a positive thing. When my daughter was 7, and my son was 6 months old, I dislocated my shoulder blade and my collar bone and I was in extreme pain for several months. But the worst thing I remember about the whole thing, was not being able to pick up my baby. I couldnt pick him up out of the crib, couldnt carry him, couldnt hug either child. It was one of the most emotionally tough things that has happened to me, so I can understand her emotional response to not being able to pick up her babies. Kudos to her indomitable spirit 💗

Another CP supermom over here!!!! I also met my husband in high school by falling down literally at his feet. I also was told that I probably should not have kids but because I am also hardheaded about things, I have a beautiful 23 year old daughter. What Valerie says is truth. You have to work everyday but the payoff is massive! Live your dreams, you do not have to be on the sidelines.

My mom has Cerebral Palsy, a little more mild type. She has a limp we call her pimp limp and uses two canes. I was embarrassed as a kid because she walked "weird". People always said she shouldn't have had a kid. She's 63 now and still gets stares at the braces on her legs out in public. Even today at the store. Only child and single mom made us incredibly close. I still live with her and support her now.

One of my best friends has Cerebral Palsy. She is confined to a wheelchair with minimal use to only one of her hands. She relies on a service dog for most of her daily needs. She is now happily married with a beautiful daughter. She also has a degree in computer sciences. YOU GO GIRL!
