In Terraria you fight giant skeletons, behead goblins and fight off evil corrupted flying eyes and demonic walls of flesh in hell, yeah totally girly stuff
@@keinen.0824 Stardew has combat. But it's still 75% farming. My Time At Sandrock has a better balance, and you're a post-apocalyptic mechanic, not a farmer. The story starts out preachy and woke. Like, _literal_ preaching. The church of environmentalism. But, damn. The story goes left, in the best way. Spies, wars, and lots of stuff I don't wanna spoil. But... it's totally a farming cozy game. With guns. And airships. And a southern tomboy. And mutants. (Also, pro tip. Deputy/preacher doo-gooder will fine/arrest you for cutting down live trees. But you can chop trees far away from town, no problem. I didn't realize I even could til the story started calling out the idiocy of the environmentalists.)

The games don't really "come out of nowhere". They just dont have tens of millions of dollars for advertising. They make a handful of ads on twitter or facebook, maybe, if that. Small indie titles rely primarily on word of mouth, and being placed/shown off on Steams release page.
This. Then again, if a game is really good people WILL eventually have a friend come up to them and ask "did you ever try Corekeeper?". In a way, that's how you can tell a game is really good. No big marketing blitz, no phony celebrity gushing about a game they probably never played for that fat paycheck, just gamers telling other gamers that this indie title is a blast.
That's what divides real gamers from causal gamers: Real gamers know games like this one from the start because they constantly scan the entire market. Casual gamers in the other hand mainly just play what they see in mass media ads or from ads that are masjed as "game reviews" - IGN kind of shXt.
Based, it's like not playing Minecraft... Not sure I vibe with the Stardew take either; since when did it become girly to drive your competitors out of business via ruthless capitalism? LMAO. I mean he certainly wouldn't like it because the combat isn't good, but he sounds 12 when *that* is his reason.
@@65555fdv just bc u dont like those games doesnt mean they cant be good... Terraria is on top of every game you have in your library promise you. more content, mods, more players, bosses literally everything. all you have to do is look at the steam stats.
Just waiting when asmon will discover all the indie hidden gems and be awed by how many great games there are that no one talks about because they're indies.
Some that could be cool for him is: Horizon Gate Series, Swords and Sandals (mini game, not much depth but very enjoyable), Moonring, Abiotic Factor and Deep Rock Galactic
Terraria is great, especially the Mod "Calamity". It's basicly a new game on steroids in terms of difficulty and content. Sadly the devs caved to the mentally ill and removed genders from their character creator in the last update... Just sad to see, just like the RuneScape devs.
@@keeferChiefer007Minecraft and terraria are literally worlds apart. The only similarities you can compare Minecraft and terraria to is the sandbox elements and square tiles. That’s it.
its more that he doesn't know what terraria really is and assumed it was like stardew valey without actually looking into it cuz artstyle, cuz grouping those two games makes no sense whatsoever
I loved Undertale for what it was. Then I go online and find it's fanbase is insane Tumblr tards. There is a huge difference between what something is and the fanbase that latches onto it and shape the discussion to their narrative.
Lumping Terraria together with Stardew is odd, their only similarity being that they use sprite art. Terraria is a 2D side scrolling sandbox boss rush game. It's the grandfather of this specific sub genre, branching off of Minecraft at the time. Terraria carved a spot for games like Core Keeper and Valheim to flourish, without it, this genre wouldn't be here or the same as it is today. It also goes hard once you get out of the early game and its bosses are iconic. Modded with Calamity, it's still one of the best boss fight sandbox games on the market to this day. Stardew is a casual slow paced farming life simulator, inspired by games like Harvest Moon and Rune Factory but has less combat and no magic like Rune Factory but a bit more action than Harvest Moon. From Asmon's PoV labeling this one as a "girl game" is more fair, as Asmon's type of games are always combat focused. Stardew would *not* be something he'd enjoy. Even if he doesn't end up enjoying Terraria completely due to it's 2D side scrolling nature. I hope Asmon gives it a shot at least, on or off stream, just so he can experience the game that essentially created this sub genre of survival crafting games focused on combat, boss fights, and awesome loot.
I hate how often calamity is brought up in discussions about Terraria, the game itself holds its own without needing a mod to improve it. Yes, calamity is a great mod, and I'd argue it improves the game overall, but constantly bringing up a mod in discussions about the game makes it look like the game NEEDS a mod to be good. Terraria unmodded stands on its own.
@@ZeallustImmortal well I think we can all agree with you on that but, from someone who already played base terraria, mods make the base game feel like entering hard mode
Bought this game on early access release, its one of those games u know is gonna be soo good that i waited until release before playing it more, thats almost 2 years wait time, but worth it in the end.
I felt the opposite but I'm glad I was wrong. I also bought it on EA release but I thought it was junk in the state it was. Looks like they've done a lot with it and excited to see what they've done.
Starbounds coming to Xbox soon finally. After years of hearing nothing play testing is going on for the xbox port until September 4th. Making sure the optimization and controls are working properly from what I've seen several days prior.
@@ennioxSolo burn at first, I agree. I went on to the point you start mining and I spent 99% of the time being a miner (maybe like 10 hours or so). Dropped it for other games, but yeah definitely more than a dating app or farming sim. You really can get lost into specific aspects of the game without necessarily going through the rest too much.
The shiny suits and the pink hairs have all the power and money of governments and mega-corporations behind them, but they're still losing to a bunch of poor gamers. And they're losing badly. It's glorious.
I love those games, i played minecraft, necesse, core keeper, stradew valley, don't starve, project zomboid, v rising, the binding of isaac, lost ark etc. Tried terraria and never liked it. I don't know why.
Core Keeper has been out in Early Access for like TWO YEARS prior to its 1.0 release on Aug 27th - EVERYONE SLEPT ON THIS GAME. The Early Access state it came out in was GREAT even and none of the streamers picked it up, hardly even cozy streamers too. The team took EVERYTHING the player base gave in feedback, and RAN with it! That "wall" of a boss is in a pain in the ass area too. Like you need HIGH mining gear to be able to break the wall blocks to be able to have some room to fight it in. Hopefully NOW that you're talking about it, this game will take off. It deserves the recognition.
Been playing it since very EA. It's the second highest playtime in my library, behind Valheim . It's simply amazing, the devs have been fantastic. It looks like it's about to blow into the stratosphere which is long overdue and very much deserved. It's a modern classic
@@korbendallas8488 Same, been playing since EA and it's one of my longest - I think it even beats out my stardew playtime (on 2 platforms even lol) and it's about to give my staple cozy games a run for the money. I am so excited to see this game get the bump in players! I keep recommending it every chance I get!
Terraria is my most played single player videogame of all time sitting at 803 hours played on steam. Ngl Asmon dismissing Terraria and lumping it in with Stardew Valley annoyed the hell out of me. Especially considering how difficult and unforgiving Terraria can be at times.
If you like this game try Necesse, it’s very similar but you can make a village with npc’s that you can program to farm, fish, fertilize crops, cook, craft, guard the base from raiders, animal husbandry, automatically store items/organize chests etc
Terraria is *NOT* for girls. You literally fight demons and a giant wall of flesh in _hell_ and explore a giant dark dungeon filled with skeletons. Terraria is an amazing game for anyone!
@@punchykarma6685 And gameplay! Graphics and art style go in my opinion hand in hand and yes, a pretty looking game can also add to the experience but if the gameplay and everything else like music, story, sound design, voice acting, price and so on... well the graphics are amazing though, not really the best example lol, it's hards down one of the best looking 2d games out there with the lighting and smooth animations (not hard coded frames like most 2d games), you wouldn't see a game looking like this back when terraria was being made good game with bad graphics would be more like... cataclysm dark days ahead
@@Official_RetroMania Before games were made with technical limitations so they had to focus more on the gameplay, nowaday AAA industry run next gen ultra realistic graphic and think it will make a good game ..
@@DDracee I mean art style wise the game look great but it isn't a high budget ultra realistic looking game that most AAA and even AA devs try to achieve. It knows is audience, I think many big companies can learn from these smaller devs.
Terraria is about creating character builds and fighting bosses. Stardew is about running a farm and providing gifts to your neighbors. Wouldnt exactly call them similar.
Just to be clear: Terraria is in no way related to Stardew, like at all. You could maybe say "stardew is for girls" but you can't say you're interested in CoreKeeper and not Terraria, CoreKeeper is basically top down Terraria, and between the two, Terraria is the better game by far.
I would argue, I personally like core keeper more. I tried it 2-3 years ago and i liked its charm more. I definitely wouldn’t say it’s better by “far” they’re both good games. I think the progression is a bit better in core keeper now to be completely honest. Terraria is harder but that doesn’t make it the better game for me.
@@Glxrp I last played Core Keeper 2 years ago, probably will play it again now that it's 1.0. But I felt at least at the time that Terraria was just simply better fleshed out overall and had deeper mechanics in general, like the water/lava system was really cool, and the world was less linear I felt. I agree though that I like the aesthetic of CK better, Terraria's graphics are, well, functional, they are fine, but not great by any metric. But who knows, it's been 2 years, maybe CK is the better game now overall guess I'll find out. Both great games either way.
@@entelin I think both games are focusing on different things i think the customizability is WAY better CK but atleast visually (i havent finished everything yet), i think the boss fights of terraria were harder. So they're gonna have 2 different playerbases even if their core principles are the same.
As someone who enjoys the non-shit survival open world base building adventure games like Minecraft, Terraria, Starbound, Necesse, Keplerth, Project Zomboid, Palworld, Valheim, etc., it always is a welcome sight to see that new games are added to this family. I cannot stress enough how many disappointments have to be released just so we can get something like Core Keeper.
This is what happens when you are only interested in ARPGs, MMOs, Shooters, and Soulslikes. You don’t even notice the good games you’ve unintentionally avoided
I played this today the first time and instantly got hooked! No handholding, no tutorials taking over your screen every 2 minutes, you just get dropped in and figure things out with common sense & curiosity; before you know it your building craft tables, tools; etc. I just love being allowed to explore with no “short limits”. Try it out!
I love how girly i feel in terraria when i wear the armor made from the corpses of my enemies and mow down hordes of goblins, watching gore and goblin paste fly all over my screen
I think Asmon should experience Terraria. That game is a true masterpiece. Nothing girly about it. And you grind for mounts, which seems right up his alley
Nobody mentions about the automation, which is actually pretty fun, you can mine resources, chop trees, kill monsters automatically, etc, all automated.
@@PervyAutomaton no, like factorio and 'factory' building games, minecraft also has automation it's more gimmicky, in core keeper you build actual machines that do some work, traps for killing on selfmade spawn zones, drills, conveyor belts to transfer items to places and chest, etc.
Asmon, Terraria playthrough with Calamity mod is BADASS, you are missing out. Master mode is suffering incarnate but you feel so cool when you beat it.
I've been keeping tabs on Core Keeper since it launched early access, but I never played through the entire content. I decided to wait until the game was done to really delve into it. That time has come.
My biggest make-or-break is, do you drop everything on death, or at least is there a keep inventory option? I love survival crafting games, but the 'drop everything on death' mechanic they all seem to be so fond of is (To me, anyways) just very tedious, and doesn't really add any depth. I can fear death on my own, thank you very much, you don't need to help me
some things that are related : 1. Your "gear"(armors, trinkets) get a "separate" inventory, and you get 3 whole pages? of them (so you can have 3 situational armor sets that you can swap without worrying about inventory space) 2. If you die you'll drop all your inventory slots (everything except stuffs in your quickslot hotbar, and armor pages) and they'll go... safely into your... Tombstone? so you can just simply run back to where you die and claim it (they won't despawn too dw) 3. There's not really a Death Penalty? Like minecraft with the dropping EXP levels etc all in all it can be a generally chill, altho time-consuming (you blink and 5 hours passed) kind of game
@@visoth7791 Necesse is really good ^^ wanted to check out Cult of the Lamb but I haven't gotten a chance to yet maybe later. Necesse just got a graphic update that is really nice looking :) highly recommend it. Settlers are actually useful when you make your own little town.

I was an early adopter of this game. I put it down for a while but unfortunately when I wanted to start playing again you're pretty much forced to start another save file due to the extensive updates it's a shame a lot of the new biomes and updates are kneecaped for old save files. I have countless hours on my save and don't want to start another one.
You can still go into your old world, you'll just get a notice everytime. "You are entering a classic world, which lacks the latest content. Starting a new world is recommended." My world from Feb 2022 still works. I'm not sure to what extent the missing content is though.
Pretty much. But if that ain't your cake try Starbound, its a side view like terraria but in space. Also Starbound has a massive steam workshop so you can pretty much change everything.
Saying "Terraria is for girls" is like saying WoW is for children under 10 Are the graphics all happy and stylized, with vivid colors? Yeah. That's where "for girls" part end, if you can even call it that. The progression and exploration in Terraria are _PERFECT_, this is the most videogamey videogame after Tetris. Asmon is missing out Also, Valheim is basically Terraria with cool viking world and less insane equipment
Considering I've played a lot of this game since the first release in Early Access, participated in the discord suggestions and have been playing for almost 8 hours with my friends today, suddenly seeing Asmon finding out about it for the first time felt... refreshing.
Man, there's always too many games to play, but Terraria is a must play. I've put 1800 hours into my game over the years, and I actively HATE Minecraft. If he liked Valheim, he's probably going to like Terraria too
Terraria has more depth than Minecraft. Both literally and figuratively. I love Minecraft but the beautiful chests and biome crates in Terraria are works of art. Puts Minecraft to shame. Maybe next decade we will get different wood chest types in Minecraft. /s
@@MichaelPohoreski exactly. I just have to mention MC because everyone's first impression is "2d Minecraft" when they look at it, and Asmon is going to classify that as a girl game if he only glances at it.

Core Keeper was referred to as a Terraria-like. TERRARIA-LIKE. Just like the SoulsBorne games and the Soulslike genre, do you know how big of an impact and how good a game is to be referred to as a subgenre? That's just how good Terraria is and yes, I highly recommend it
Why did Stardew Valley even get mentioned? It’s nothing like Core Keeper or Terraria which are both about exploration and boss fights. Like even fishing in terraria is ultimately about getting rare items and better gear. For boss fights. And to survive while exploring further.
Just watched the Star wars Outlaws video before this. Going from "wasnt excited for this game, this game is giving me depression" and seeing this "I am excited for this, this is awesome" is a fun tone shift
I actually feel like my gaming experience was kind of similar to Asmon’s I used be a variety gamer until Halo 2, Halo 3, CoD MW and MW2, then Runescape since 2009, and basically Minecraft and Runescape up until Rocket League, then Rocket League and Runescape for a few years. I missed out on a lot of variety in games. At 31 I’m just now getting into play games like the Legend of Zelda and all sorts of other games. I have had Core Keeper for over a year now and got my wife and nephew into it, so I’m really glad to see how popular it’s getting!
How is it weird when it's 1.0 launch? Many people buy EA, play a little bit and then wait for X months/years for 1.0 launch before playing seriously, many are tired to lose progress as you get less free time how older you get. With every EA game there is a huge peak during 1.0 launch and only then it reaches streamers attention.
@@KiffJRockka its weird seeing because I played the beta and didn’t really see anyone talk about it. And now it’s getting a lot of attention. Not used to it.
It's okay. But after playing Terraria and other games similar to it, Core keep for me lacks in content. Also enemies get stupidly powerful later on. Never liked such difficulty spikes and yes I've gotten the end game armor and so on.
@@Dafool11 It's not a skill issue when enemies did half of your health in damage in one hit. It's the most boring type of difficulty setting you can have.
Terarria was the same way. Had years of development and updates. First time I played it the last boss was Wall of Flesh. Hope to see Core Keeper do the same thing.
everyone here is so pressed about his terraria comment, i just want to know what everyone here thinks about core keeper. what im seeing looks very very fun.
You can’t convince me asmond is not pushing these games he finds. - Looks at corekeeper gameplay that has many aspects of terraria - Gives terraria 0 recognition despite shouting out a game that has clear similarities. If these random game spotlights are not a shadow ad then… 🤷🏾♂️
Or perhaps he simply finds these games more appealing? Side scrolling like in Terarria can be a big turn off, top down feels a lot more intuitive for this kind of gameplay. He thought Terarria was a girls game, so he probably doesn't know enough about it to give it any credit in this regard.
Imagine Asmon discovers Grounded, sure the game looks bit cartoonish and is literally (honey i shrunk the kids) in a game but has Souls level combat and is in general brutal.
The best way I can describe Core Keeper; Noob Friendly Top-Down Terraria with Fantastic Aesthetics and Scenery. Great Game, would highly recommend anyone to play, casual players or not, good for both
I only wish this game had more content and more variety. POIs spawn in a circle around the center which becomes relevant to know as you progress past ”the wall”.
There are "gardens" in Empyrion Galactic Survival to, but that game is a decent horror game and brutal sci-fi where your flying a "tin can" most of the time that will turn into swizz cheese in seconds if not explode on first accidental first contact with a hostile. (nothing like going into orbit right below a hostile station).
This game is pretty much from one german guy. I hear his podcast regularly and he is a very chill guy, he quit his university education to become a game developer.
Going back to basics and making high quality engaging gameplay a priority is definitely what the gaming industry needs right now... This kind of reception for a game like this should be a slap in the face to a lot of the big studios telling them to get their act together.
