I think they’re indexing! I see them on my end but not when I search for them. An ebay rep said it takes between 24-48 hours to index. Here’s to them being active on Monday 🤞
Love this!!! I started five years ago by selling clothing from my own closet on Poshmark. Two years ago I added eBay. I am part time and profit around $2000 a month. Just a fun retirement gig!
Absolutely LOVE you’re starting a new store and not piggy backing off the success of your current store. This is the type of content newbies need. Thank you
One thing I buy at the dollar tree for my eBay business is the white posterboard that is 2/$1 I literally set them up on my couch on sunny days for most of my pictures. Excellent channel, BTW!
@@carrieathome Can I ask why gray? (Not being critical- I like gray! :) I chose white because I was told that eBay encouraged a white background for the purpose of getting listings picked up by Search engines like Google and Bing.
I like gray because I sell a lot of preowned clothing and I’ve heard that if an item is in a white background, it’s perceived more as a new item (which could lead to more dissatisfied customers). But really, it’s what I was taught by Technsports!
@@carrieathome for years it was illegal to put ads on eBay or Amazon without an all white background. So I have done that for years clean and neat. If you are taking pics with a phone it goes wild unless you use sunlight outside or halogen light bulbs. No editing needed with grey because it auto balances the colors exactly like chroma key. I thought it was ugly and stupid for the last year. And tech was discussing it about 6 months ago as to why grey. So I tried it with a furry soft grey blanket that matches the interior of my car. It's an absolute for everything but jewelry. So I went to Walmart and bought 1 flat sheet in the Walmart brand in that depressing battleship grey for like 5 bucks. It's a winner every time. Colors are all exact just like you see item in person. Win win 100 percent...don't try to find grey photo board unless you are at a extreme art supply. The sheet works perfect
Thank you so very much for doing this! I have gone through multiple videos of yours and what an inspiration. I have recently retired and trying to find a new "ME"! I am accepting the challenge to go right along with you! Working to hone down my neich and to learn more about it. I too will be starting with $50.00. The Dollar Store trip and how you set up your shoot was awesome , just what I needed. Excited about the journey! Let's do this!
This is a great series idea! As a brand new eBay reseller (I only sold 1 item this first month), as well as a fellow homeschooling mom, I really need this information! I’m so interested to see how quickly your store grows and learn your tips! Thanks, again!
Good morning Carrie, Great content as always! Wondering if you should buy a few things on your new eBay account to get your feedback score up a little. ...I often suggest this for new sellers. Just stuff one buys anyway, such as toothpaste and small items you need around the house that you'd normally buy at that other place, the "Az" website that shall remain nameless... :) ...This way, buyers don't see a zero feedback seller, but instead they see a seller with some feedback, even 7 to 10 would greatly increase trust of potential buyers. And not one out a a thousand buyers will analyze the feedback to see if your new account got it from buying instead of selling. Just a thought. Keep up the great work! You are extremely encouraging. Also, thank you SO MUCH for home educating your children and raising them in the way they should go. Please never tithe your most precious gifts on earth to the government to raise for 12+ years. Greg
Carrie Such a cool idea doing a series on how to resell. I have read the comments so far. and someone mentioned about going to the bins, I personally wouldn't add them to this. Where I live there are 2 bin locations less than a half hour from my house. But a friend of mine closest bin location is almost 2 hours away. So sticking to the anyone can do this theme wouldn't work for everyone. God bless and keep up the good work. Coming from another reseller making more than this goal.
I am an avid recycler. I refuse predominantly Amazon bubble mailers. I have a lot of people who are recyclers that save them for me. They are free shipping supplies. I include a note that says, "Thank you for participating in our very small effort to reduce waste and save the planet one bag at a time." I know that certain sites promote purchasing packaging and labels so this approach isn't for everyone...but for a new person it gets the job done at no cost. It is still important to fold the item nicely and use tissue paper if you have it. (Only if you have it).
Lol. Yes you can. You can raid any granny's gift wrap closet and find a hoard of tissue and get it free. Give her a hug and a kiss and it's an even exchange. I'm still trying to save the world one tissue at a time. Lol. 😅
I remember those days for me. 2020 and I started with what was around my house. I'm now full time home and part time working making that full time salary. I do love that someone is doing a series like this for newbies and a reminder for those of us deep in the trenches.
Carrie, I am basically an everything seller, however I am doing a lot of clothes. I bought an adjustable drafting table and modified it a bit to be 4'x4'. It has a woodgrain surface and I attached a sherpa cloth to it to be able to use when needed. I keep the surface flat when Im listing things other than clothes and when I start listing clothes, I tilt it towards me and use the sherpa cloth so things dont slide to the floor. It allows me to swap clothes in and out quickly to list and doesnt hurt the back from bending over for hours!
I am so excited an out this series!! I’m just starting my eBay reselling journey and this is going to be super helpful. Thanks for doing this @CarrieatHome
@@carrieathome I also had the idea of people buying items and listing them right there (maybe set up their trunk to take decent pics) and try to see if they can source and sell an item before the day is over!
I would prime the pump a little and sell your items cheap (initially) with a 33% off sale to get some momentum going. That would also follow Tech'n Sport's philosophy of "Better some of the money all of the time than all of the money some of the time". I believe your watchers will also be alerted to the sale. Love your "Hold my beer" attitude!
Thank you for doing this! I’m a teacher and looking to make ends meet. I was skeptical - thinking only established resellers could do this for a living. Visited the “bins”… spent less than $20 on what I think are good pieces. Fingers crossed!!
I used to get $50 for Ermenegildo Zegna shirts back in like 2015/2016. They still sell brand new for $175.00 and up, but I can barely get $20 for one now. It's over saturated. Such a shame.
Priority Flat Rate padded envelopes are free. You can order them from UPS and have them delivered to your house for free in packs of 10-25. Shipping is a flat rate of $8.74 where I'm at but I have the buyer pay that so idk.
Ya I’m confused why she didn’t go to the post office and pick up FREE priority mail flat rate envelopes either padded or paper for tops. Even the priority mail tyvek envelope and use pirate ship envelope shipping most of the time that weight will ship there for under $7….i also would have taken my $50 to the bins or a garage sale. I think tops for most new sellers would be slow…..dresses, skirts,- even shoes would be a category with a better sell through just IMO. I’m sure she will do fine because RU-vid viewers will push sales.
These items are light ground advantage is probably going to be used. I haven't used 1 priority padded envelope since cubic started. Even jeans ship for $6 over $8.74
@@dwfinds3030 oh sure, I got some poly mailers and started using ground advantage myself. I'm just saying until she can get some, the others are free so she doesn't have to spend inventory money on shipping supplies
Carrie, some tips for a “newbie”. Don’t tape over the bar code on the shipping label. It can mess with the scanner. Don’t cram shirts in a small shipping bag. Presentation can be important when the buyer opens it. You don’t want to take a chance of getting negative feedback right off the bat.
Definitely need to tape over barcode so it’s not damaged from water, rain, liquids etc. . Been doing it for years until I bought a label printer. Never had a problem and even then they can type the numbers in. Please tape over your entire label to protect it… whoever is reading this
You can also add a small handling fee to cover supplies like $1.50. The customer doesn't see that cost it just gets added in the shipping cost by Ebay. As long as you are giving the customers the Ebay shipping discount then they are still getting a good deal on shipping.
Love this challenge! I did similar when I first started! Sold off my own items, picked up just a few mailers and supplies at dollar tree until I could buy more in bulk 😊
Love this! I'm going to follow and do this right along with you. I started watching your channel a couple weeks ago and wondered if I could sell on eBay. I have so much stuff around my house. I'm so excited you're doing this.Carrie, can you make a video about terminology and what everything means please? For example; sell through, when you 'look things up' where? What? What's the 'pricing structure'. I know this seems extreme, but I don't know. Perhaps a video explaining? Thanks so much!
I'm interested on what traffic you will get with just 3 listings. I've been selling for about a year and I think it's great that you are doing this. A great experiment on data from Ebay. I will watch with interest.
This is awesome because I just started reselling myself with about the same budget and with the same goal! So it'll be fun to do it alongside you! Made 3 sales this weekend so that was fun! Still trying to find my niche based on what my thrift stores have. I found a thrift store where I think mens pants, not jeans, could be a thing. Although I don't have a goodwill bins so I may just have to stay an everything buyer for inventory. I also have a goal of a sell through rate of 35% or more because when I went for 50% I couldn't find a single thing for 3 days of thrifting. 😬
You can always order mailers and boxes from USPS for free. Also, I have decided to do this challenge with you and record my progress. Very interested in becoming a reseller and now I feel like I have a business buddy. Looking forward to your updates!
@@carrieathome I also realize that I was thinking about shipping for Poshmark not eBay when I commented free shipping supplies from USPS. lol I’m learning!
I LOVE this challenge! Way to show how it’s done! BoNObos …besides being a great brand, are the animals with the most common dna with humans! I’m 62 and have only just learned this a couple yrs ago :/
I add a niche or drop one occasionally. Research is so Much easier now. I walked into a thrift store the other day that another reseller told me had been picked over due to a week long dollar bag sale. Walked out after spending $3 and two hours with three bags and after all expenses I figure profit of at least 200$. I did look Up Quite a bit for sell through rate. Research is so important. An hour or two spent at the computer researching is very valuable.
Hello and thank you for your content, you and your husband (Kyle) are great. Does he use square mode when taking pictures? I use square mode when picturing jeans But it seems like I always have to crop.
Yup! Square mode all the way. Sometimes if the item is huge, Kyle has to stand back a bit to photo it which gets some non-board stuff so I have to crop it out
I can’t wait to see how this project pans out. Can I ask if you started with a store subscription or just as a “personal” until it makes enough money to pay for the subscription
With your previous experience, do you feel like steaming clothes before photographing have a better chance to sell? Isn’t it better for presentation or it doesn’t matter? Thanks.
I don’t have much experience outside of jeans but I do think steaming high end clothes to present them better would be good. But for the casual ordinary stuff, I personally wouldn’t spend my time on it.
Hi, nice video and I hope you succeed with your challenge. BTW - what do you mean by 'not a very good sell-thru rate' or 'almost 100% sell thru' ? You mentioned that a few times. How are you calculating that?
Thanks! You calculate it by narrowing down the results to similar items that you're researching. You'll see how many items are listed and how many have sold. Divide sold vs active and you'll get a percentage of how many listed sell within 90 days. Hope this helps! The higher the percentage, the better. So if it's 100% sell thru, that means statistically all items listed will sell within 90 days. If it's 50% sell thru, statistically half the items listed will sell within 90 days. So on and so forth.
I started a new ebay account yesterday.. I listed 4 or 5 items but as of today none of them are active in search? I asked ebay and they told me they up for sale???? ugh I have NO idea what is going on. Anyone know? HELP
This is wonderful, and im excited to see the processes you develop over time with this store. This is realistic for many, starting out with a limited budget and not having a lot of money to initially invest...... I know you do free returns as a clothing seller in your main store, what have you chose to set the "Rags to Riches" store with and what are your thoughts on brand new clothing resellers offering free or buyer paid returns?
wow $50 is ambitious, I would have started with at least $200 Those mailers are killing your profit though. Maybe find someone to donate a thick garbage bag and make your own poly mailers?
