So awesome at :57 !! It looked like fun cleaning the bottom of the boat! A 20 day passage is so long and I am certain you miss your family. Sometimes it is better to pivot than put yourself thru an arduous situation. I am sure the Whitakers will miss you a ton and that you will always have a special bond with them! Thank you for giving us a glimpse into your boat life with Zatara. I am looking forward to your new adventures!

That's so sad to hear. I have really enjoyed your perspective of sailing on Zatara. Your going to be successful no matter what you do and I cant wait to see whatever vlogs you release down the road. You have to do what makes you happy, the hard thing is figuring out what is really going to make you happy. I'm sure you thought that the opportunity to sail on Zatara across the Ocean would make you happy, unfortunately you just don't know until you try it. Conversely....... one might say if you make a commitment to something you should follow through with said commitment. I am an old Hippie and an old "dirty biker." I developed a saying to guide my life. "Some rides are longer than others and you can learn something on every ride if you pay attention." Although this ride was intended to be a longer ride, you were paying attention enough to recognize when it was over for you. Also, I believe that you pay attention enough to have learned some thing (or things) from this ride. Enjoy your next ride. However, the Grandpa in me wants to remind you that the world is not yet a safe place for young women. Travel in groups as much as possible and always work with a "buddy" system. Even in a group have one buddy with whom you share the responsibility of watching each other's backs (and drinks.)

It's a good thing to know what you want for you in life. Yes the Whitaker's are a great family well not great, but terrific, hospitable, kind, caring family. And I agree with you Jaden they Whitakers have traveled the world and I understand when they just want to chill, but then again I understand you want to do things. Travelling Europe's a good thing and now the time to do the travelling. Like you said you'll return to your families boat, but first give yourself some me time. Jadyn, a very honest and forthright account, I think living with another family would be very difficult especially when you are confined to a restricted space. Zatara is Keith and Renee’s dream and I can see the building unrest in their own kids in the time I have followed them. You need to follow your own dreams, set your own goals and go as hard as safely possible. Good luck, you have a great head on your shoulders, just always be mindful that not everyone is what they seem so you travel if something doesn’t feel right…..then it’s probably not. The longest I've been out at sea without telecommunication and internet to contact my family is 30 days. I was working on a Purse Seine as a PIRFO Observer.

Jadyn - as you have been brave enough to leave the comments on, I will weigh in. At 18, it is impossible to know what you want in life, or where you will end up. That’s totally normal. Your life will take many twists and turns, and you will have setbacks, adventures, and accomplishments both small and large. My observations are this: don’t fall into the “instagram life” of only posting the positive. You will gain much more respect by always being real. On another note, I do think it is important to always try and keep your word. If you committed to Zatara for the ocean crossing, and they were counting on you, you should have kept your end of the bargain. It seems immature to leave - you were bored, didn’t think you were getting enough responsibility? Didn’t think the Zatara family was adventurous enough for you? (Did you consider after the recent few months of trips throughout Europe and Iceland that they may be resting up for the voyage ahead?) Sometimes it’s hard to see the big picture. Try looking at future situations from “30,000 feet”, that is, what is the overall end result going to be? It is a skill that takes time to learn, and you have many years ahead to mature. Often, the best decision is to take a deep breath, and wait. Other times, you have to employ the Ben Franklin method - put pen to paper and list the positives and negatives and then make a decision. All this being said, I wish you only the best and hope that your travels are interesting, and most importantly, that you stay safe.

The Whittaker’s also by their own admission like to cruise more than sail sail so that removes a bit of the adventure of being on the boat if you just have auto pilot on and aren’t doing many maneuvers

Sometimes it takes a whole heck of a lot more courage to leave than it does to stay right? I know this was a really hard desicion and you feel grateful for the learned experiences with Zatara. Spread your wings ❤

Every day of your life you face choices. The ones that survive learn the choices must follow your path. Making choices for other people, always you to feel like “something is wrong”… or “this is not me”. It’s a strength to be able to identify you have a choice, then making logical decisions…takes courage. Life goes on, the Atlantic will still be waiting for the day you want to do the crossing…so you’re off to Europe, then back to “your boat”. I did pick up on “first mate”. When you’re the main banana, then you find yourself in another situation where you’re low man (sorry woman) on the pole… that will grind on anyone’s. Making a change probably was a good idea. 20 days crossing the Atlantic could have been torture if you don’t have the “mindset”… never done it myself, but I’m sure you don’t just do it. Be safe, enjoy your travel… being alone traveling now.. all of us out here will worry… keep posting … sorry to see ya go, but life goes on.

While I have really enjoyed the energy you have on Zatara, know that I will continue watching. As for the resume thing, life contains some of that for most people. Not that you can’t or shouldn’t put off such things. One thing I have learned from watching sailing channels is that some are world sailors and some are not. I know you’re not sure if you want to sail or van life. The great news is that you have time to explore.

You only have one life to live. Always remember that. Also, remember there are lots of kids your age with illnesses that can't do what you're doing. Im 50 now but as a 15 year old boy, I got to travel the world with my best friend. We went all over Europe then when I was 17 we traveled all over New Zealand and it was magical. As you are gonna get older, things change and your wants in life will change too. Your only 18 once, never let anything hold you back, soak up everything that you can and when the time is right, you too will settle down. Your good people and so are all of the people on Zatara!!!!!!!! Your Amazing, never forget that!!!!!
