So this was supposed to be a tutorial of how I stretched my 4C hair, but I didn't really know what I was doing lol so it turned into a mini rant. I'm lowkey over my hair at the moment, but I'm not giving up on it. Im going to continue to learn how to care for it. SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME :)

Girlllllll thank u. it's so refreshing to see a natural hair video that shows that the STRUGGLE IS REAL and very frustrating sometimes. but you know what...no Pain No Gain. I remember crying in the mirror when my hair was that length. I'm two yrs in now and most days i love my hair. the struggle was worth it!!!!

I have 4C hair and hate having to do anything to cause if it touches itself it tangles i stg i've literally had my hair in havana twists since 2015 (only changing it for graduation so I could wear my cap) & it is so easy to maintain and looks good for such a long time and I'm able to moisturize my scalp whenever i need/want and my hair GROWS it has been my favorite protective style

I went through the same thing sis..I just had to realize that at the TWA phase with 4c hair, long term styles work best!Get some box braids! Get some sewins! Do some crotchet styles! Do things where you’re not constantly looking at how short it is and how slow your hairs growing! Before you know it, 2 years will have gone by and then you can do the twist outs and wash n gos with some hang time!

Kilahmazing let your beautiful hair do it's thing. You're doing good to moisturize more often especially since the winter weather tends to dry out our hair. If I could make one suggestion....☺😀I would NOT use heating appliances. They could/or maybe not stunt the hair growth. But girl I love your videos. Be patient, your hair is going to be fine.☺✌⛄❄

Check out 22nd Century Woman's channel. She has great info and makes all natural products. My hair is growing great and is healthy. I went from bald to neck length in 2yrs. As far as styling, I do 2 strand twists which look like free form locs on my texture (combo hair including 4zzz) and I'm cool with that. Just saying, you are not alone and don't give up on your hair!!!

black woman do not love one another. we think we're telling out by thinking we also know everything when we don't, everything about this is wrong you should be supporting this woman. Instead of us telling her what we think she should do was just support her and what she's trying to do with her own hair. Black women have to understand we are not our hair

That's good it's finally growing hopefully you don't have to cut it. I know mines is taking forever to grow after I did the big chop I was going through alot with my hair so I had to cut it. I thought that the chemicals that I was putting in my hair was the reason I was losing my hair. But it wasn't I was diagnose with Alopica but it's starting to grow back but when I had a Prem in it it grew fast and easier to manage. But thank you for responding back to me and good luck with your hair 💜

Olive oil really grows my hair for some reason 🤷‍♀️. Also, I get fed up with my hair sometimes too; I wear braided wigs (with my hair in flat twists underneath) and sometimes get my hair braided, especially in the winter. 4C hair is gorgeous, it can do anything, mimic any texture, holds hairstyles well, the twist outs always look so good and it always looks full! I understand it can be a lot of work though!

2 things real quick: 1. Scarves are cheaper than wigs for a protective style also much quicker when you're in a hurry. Just wear ur silk wrap underneath to protect your hair, hit up Ross, and learn like 2 scarf ties designs to start, then go from there 😉 2. Honey is a humectant (sp?). Although snow indicates there is some moisture in the air, generally cold weather and air are DRY. This means there's no moisture for the humectant to pull out of the air. By default, that product will suck ur hair bone dry. Humectants r funny that way. . . U have to consider your environment and/or the season. Humidity+humectant=magic!

Our hair thrives off of low manipulation. Hot oil treatments as much as possible. Wash, deep condition, leave in, protein treatments when needed. Black tea rinse for shedding. Make sure the shedding is not due to any defiencies. Braid or flat twists that baby up. Being that you where wigs. Slap a wig right over that baby. Use combs as little as possible. Trim ends when needed. Use minimal to no heat when drying time. Unless your hair likes it. Then do what your hair loves. Keep your hands out of your hair. Natural hair, especially the 4's are very booshe. Black tea rinse only when needed. When used to often it can begin to stunt your hair growth. Hope this helps best of luck to you.

Let me tell you something: I don't who those 9 people are that disliked your video, but this is the realest video I've seen in a very long time when it comes to 4c natural hair. It's not a cake walk dealing with our hair! And I remember vividly being in that awkward in between stage you're in and wondering if I should continue or whack it all off. I got through it, but it was ROUGH. Thank you for bringing the REAL to the natural hair struggles and without the beat face. One thing I've learned is less is more. Try not to use too many products, and use protective styles to help leave your hair alone. Braids, wigs, twists, etc. And save those edges. Protective styles are wonderful, but too much tugging and pulling on the edges will leave you bald. Don't give up, it will get better!

@marleyhill34 6 лет назад
If you watched Damian Walters videos, you will realize that if you don't care for locs properly, they will just thin out, fall off, look disorganised or gross with lint and product build up. So be careful. He advocates washing and conditioning locs regularly.
@Mimi24177
@Mimi24177 6 лет назад
Marley Hill That's exactly! What made me stop thinking about locs. Because over time they get heavy they can thin out at the root causing alopecia, because of the weight of the locs. So I decided to buy marley hair and box braided or twist it up and treat them like they are locs for conditioning my hair if you know what I mean.
@Dimitri1237

Make sure you mist your hair with water before applying the shea butter. Shea butter and JBCO are SEALENTS, they act as a barrier & seal the moisture (water) in, hence the LOC/LCO method. I use filtered water in a spray bottle. Tap water is treated with fluoride & can be drying to the hair.
@Oonagh72
@Oonagh72 6 лет назад
Have you ever considered locs? I notice when people love their natural hair but don’t like the “frustration” of it, locs may be an alternative. Locs aren’t no maintenance but very low maintenance. For me I still get fun hair I can play with, but no defanging or chemicals.

I love my hair! So easy to look after. It took me so long to appreciate the hair I have been blessed (not cursed) with! When we work out how to look after our hair it won't feel like a struggle. Our natural hair rocks!!!! After years and years of going against nature and straightening/perming (& damaging my hair) I have found what works for my TWA. If I had left it alone I would have had plenty . I didn't really appreciate my hair until I lost it through a truly unfortunate event in my life. That made appreciate what I had and I have learned not to moan about it again. Now it's growing back.. I am working with what I have now and I....love, love, love it and appreciate it so much!!!!! Love your beautiful wool ladies....you are blessed!!💕💕💕

I recommend mini twisting your hair long term. Keep the ends moisturised with castor oil or grease. Moisturise the rest of it with a water based product. Leave it alone You will see growth. You can leave the twists as long as you like x I usually kept mine for 1 or 2 weeks. My hair is now hiplength x

For hair growth : (Jamaican Black)Castor Oil, peppermint oil, Virgin Hair Vertilizer, Sulfur 8 I use blue magic for my length retention (as sealant) and it works great When ur hair feels dry, try doing a hot oil treatment or start pre pooing Don’t use too much heat on your hair, and if you do, use a heat protectant and a routine otherwise you will risk heat damage or frustration Protective styling is key , especially with type 4 hair Deep condition at least once a month Keep your hair as stretched as possible (African thread, cornrows or dookey braids, twists) to minimize single strand knots Use (fermented) rice water (do your research) it helps a whole lot it’s magic! It smoothes your hair, increases shine and health, promotes hair growth, has a ton of vitamins and benefits. It’s also good for glowing skin.

I don’t have 4c hair but I struggled with the same issues when I first went natural my hair used to be ALWAYS dry. I had to learn the porosity of my hair to finally learn how to moisturize my hair properly. I use the LOC method. After I wash my hair I use leave in conditioner for L on damp hair (olive miracle). I let my hair dry for a little bit before I apply shea butter or a oil to seal like olive oil. Cantu coconut cream for C. I found layering my products really help with moisture retention. I wash my hair once a week to avoid build up. I highly recommend creme of nature coconut milk shampoo & conditioner very moisturizing & great for detangling. Great products for hair growth is wild growth oil. If u put this in ur scalp underneath ur wigs u will see major growth in the 1st month. I noticed my hair will be extra dry when I have a lot of build up so that can be a factor too so I advise going in with a clarifying shampoo least once a month. A trick I do to get my hair to stretch is washing it in twist so u won’t have to put much heat. Ik this long asf but I hope it helps. 😂🤗

I'm a little late to this video but you mentioned that you kept getting single-strand knots then later you were using regular scissors to cut your ends. Next time try using shears/hair scissors that are much sharper and will hopefully prevent those knots. They are pretty cheap at beauty supply stores.

I have a designated hair cutting shears/scissors. It's from the beauty supply but you can get them in your local pharmacy like walgreens or CVS. I don't cut anything else with my hair scissors not even weave.

For dryness, I do a Shea butter mix (shea butter, jojoba oil, melted coconut oil, ) and put that on my hair. I then seal my hair with jojoba oil to lock in the moisture. If I’m just hanging around the house I keep my satin scarf on and I keep my hair (which is now a little past bra strap length) pinned up. I have been doing this since early summer and it has helped my 4c hair a lot. My hair stays moisturized for at least a week before I need to reapply.

I have 4c and I'm a bit confused with your method but hey ho let's go with what I got. 1. detangling hair: I detangle my hair with my fingers with LCO. LCO is liquid moisturiser, then cream conditioner and then oil my favourite for detangling is coconut oil. 2. Then I wash my hair with a co-wash (every week or when I go swimming) or sulfate free shampoo(twice a month) or a chelating shampoo(once a month). I always deep condition on clean hair with heat from a hot towel, a heat cap or a hooded dryer. 3. Once I wash out the deep conditioner I then will apply the LCO again and detangle with a tangle teezer or denman brush (once a month) otherwise it's with my fingers and a hair (only) scissors for really bad knots. 4. I would avoid heat stretching your hair. I heat stretch and trim (remove quarter of an inch) my hair every three months with a strong heat protectant. It makes the hair heavy but I'm not adding heAT for style I'm doing it to help me trim properly( and avoid heat damage). If you must stretch your hair stretch it once a week with banding, braiding or twists. 5. Basically every week I deep moisture condition my hair and then throw it up in braids or twists or updos for 5-7 days. My hair does not like to be manipulated every day. 6 I use aphogee protein conditioners to combat breakage because I have fine 4c hair that breaks easily with the tightest coil ever. They have a daily spray, a fortnightly protein treatment and a monthly-6 weekly hard treatment. Always follow the instructions to the letter with protein treatments. Failure to moisture balance your hair with protein can cause breakage. I suggest buying ( or borrowing from friends or the library) the books by Audrey Davis-Sivasothy to help you get a handle on caring for your hair. When I do wear my hair out (spring and summer) People love the 4c texture. I want to cut it but I'm still learning to get my routine/regiment down so I will persevere. I suggest you do too. And there is always wigs and other protective styles when you and your hair need a break from each other. Lol!

You are doing sooooo much to your 2 inches of hair! My first year after shaving my head was just condition and put a head band on. Then year 2 I graduated to puffs. Find a good wig and just leave it alone. All these treatments and oils are overkill. You're bald. Your hair has no choice but to grow?

I am literally feeling you...right about now. I have been natural for a long ass time....however...I have scalp psoriasis that causes a bald spot. It will grow then fall out...grow...then fall out. I am 2 seconds from chopping it all off and documenting the journey to see what the absolute hell is wrong with my scalp. The rest of my hair is completely fine and long beautiful...except for that spot.

Giiirl u sound just like me right now im 4c and its so hard to manage when its shorter...once it grows out its more manageable because the curls tend to elongate but until the hair gets there...CHILE!😭😭😭Im debating right now whether to big chop and just keep it short...I use to love to do my hair but now im older I dont have the patience to deal with it better yet try and find stuff to do with it! But u look gorgeous btw with ur new cut I may be right behind ya been natural since 2010..

I think your hair can grow a lot longer. I think you might be too concerned w/ apparence which is far because you're a girl but if you really want your hair to grow then you'll have to not care like that book says. I think you should follow the Curly Girl Method(no sulfates/silicones) It really helped my hair & my hair is doing a lot better. I have a mix of 4b/4C mainly with some 4A/3C parts.

Don't ever melt oils/butters in the microwave put it in hot water. Stop touching/combing hair so often. My mom had short 4c/high porosity that breaking off. Once she started low manipulation/dc/Putting in braids/cornrows/plaits/twist leave it for 1-2wks and remoisturise often she started seeing growth. Get that wig, or some scarfs/turbans

This is me just about every day. I have CCCA and don’t do the fake hair. All that stuff makes my scalp itch. Ive chosen to love the skin I’m in and the strands on my head and not compare my hair to the gorgeous women’s crowns on you tube. Loving my own hair has to start with me- I choose me! 🥰 #lovingmystrands #ichooseme 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

All hair types have struggles whether it be texture, oily problems, fine strands, breakage...etc. I have 4c hair but once you learn what your hair likes and responds to it will eliminate the frustration. It's just hair. One thing I had to do was stop watching people with hair longer than mine then waiting impatiently for mine to grow. Ughhhh that really had me feeling discouraged. You have thick hair it's just short for now. Twist outs tapered cuts or fro/puff work best at that stage.

You had me laughing so hard! I so appreciate you letting us in on your hair journey! Despite your twa struggle, I’m still considering doing a big chop with my 4c hair...maybe I should invest in a wig for the awkward stage?

Find a good moisturizing product and seal it in with the Shea butter. If you want to find a good leave in, but the sample leave in packs from Walmart or the beauty supply store. Apply to dry hair and see how your hair feels after 24 hours. This is how I discovered my staple

I have 4c hair and lost my edges due to box braids. All i did after that was wear weaves with a closure and put Jamaican castor oil on the edges. It grew back fast. Now all I do is cornrows. I started off transitioning last year and bug chopped after a few months so I've been natural since august. I only put heat in it once a month when I blow dry it to get cornrows redone.

My hair is 4c and I've been natural since 2012! Lol. I've been growing my hair out but my ends are completely dead (single strand knots), and I can't afford to keep my hair up at the moment so I've decided to just cut it all off and start over!! I loved this video because you expressed every bit of how I feel right now!! Lol. Peace & love ✌❤

Just put some curl cream in your hair and let it be and loc and seal every 3 days and you can re twist during this. Also PLEASE DO NOT MICROWAVE YOUR OILS. Microwaves will destroy any nutrients in your products, just spray your hair with warm water then add your oils or whatever after

I feel like you have hair like my cousin, fragile, difficult to grow, and seemingly nothing works. But, I do remember her hair suddenly went through a growth spurt when she started using lighter, water-based products, like aphogee, and pink lotion. Hope this helps...Good luck!!

I’ve been fighting my hair for years ive literally not had a perm since 2011 and my hair is short and back in the twa stage all it does is break no matter how much I moisturize it’s so annoying but I’m determined lol. So I’ve started all over again I wish you luck as well with your hair because I know the frustration you are going through!!!!!!!

😂 hilarious and real. Idk your style but you could've put some gel in it and combed it straight up like Leslie Jones and Raven do. I been natural since 06 and I noticed when i stopped putting heat on my hair it did better. I do stretch it sometimes tho through the banding method or flat twisting. Most of the time I slap some leave in conditioner, and curl pudding in it and call it a day. I rock that Lenny Kravitz look often lol
