ABOUT ME
I’m 33 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city s a Police Officer and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 1200 breeding ewes.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on RU-vid and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Since starting The Sheep Game I have met Lizzy and had two incredible boys Jock and Angus. You will see them all on this channel!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.

A health tale. My dad used to dip sheep with organophosphates by hand pushing them under by hand against all the warnings. I did a few too 🤦‍♂️ He later in life developed muscular dystrophy. Pet collars apparently also caused the same issue. I suspect but will never be able to prove that it was linked. I knew another farmer who couldn’t work if he went near dipped sheep as it affected him so badly. Sometimes especially if you are a risk taker, you need to force yourself to do the right thing as once these things start to affect you, it’s too late and you end up suffering for life.

This is an older video, so I Guess, it's too late now. But when I saw Lizzie ( while pregnant ) touching / being around Any of these... Chemicals, it raised a Red Flag for me. (I was worried about you, Lizzie) These poison's can be absorbed through the skin, right into your blood stream. And inhaled, regarding some of the other spray on stuff. In other videos, when you were spraying the sheep, I did see some of this 'mist' blowing around through the air. (you can go back and see it, in some of your videos...) No one knows just what affects these 'toxic' products will one day, prove harmful. > Esp. for pregnant women and children. John > Sadly, in your father's case, this won't be able to be proven (that it was linked)...for years to come. I am so sorry he (and you...watching him) had to go through all that suffering. 💔 Just like: Many toxic products, not that long ago... were used Daily. i.e. > Lead / Arsenic and Asbestos. Lead in women's makeup etc. If they are toxic enough to 'kill' things on the Sheep, It's just makes sense....they are harmful to all living beings. (even IF we cannot See the effects right now) When you are young and healthy...you do Not have a clue...just how 'sick' you can get. Suffering / and Pain is horrific. (I know.) Okay...I'm done with my Rant. Please, take good care of yourselves. 🙏

John, you are right. Organophosphates (Flea collars) Cats and dogs are showing Symptoms of Poisoning. Not only is flea collar poisoning dangerous to your cat, but it can also be dangerous to the children and adults in your family who are close to the cat. They are finally finding out... that Exposure to common Organophosphate Insecticides.... Do have > many Health Risks for both ~ Animals and Humans. ~ Does exposure to more than one.... Organophosphorus pesticide affect toxicity? Exposure to more than one such pesticide will usually produce at least an additive effect. Besides this simple effect, other pesticides or drugs, may also influence the toxicity of an individual Organophosphorus pesticide, by interfering with its metabolism, activation, and disposal. Organophosphate pesticides: Is one of the toxic pollutants found in the environment. Their increasing accumulation in food, water and soil are particularly noticeable. Organophosphates are widely used pesticides that have been shown to affect child neurodevelopment. > Prenatal or Early Life Exposure to Pesticides. > Delays in motor development in children. > Risk of Autism Spectrum Disorders. ( ~ National Library of Medicine) You can look any of this up, if you want to learn more. Anyway.... do be careful. 🙏 for your beautiful family, that we have all... come to know and love.

It would be far cheaper to use Crovect on the ewes, which will see them through to shearing, no point in giving them the extended protection of Click, but the ewes can be Clicked immediately after shearing as it is easier for it to bind with the lanolin. It would make sense just to wear wet proof trousers when wading in amongst them. No fear of the operator dying from heat exhaustion in the freezing weather we are currently getting.

If you want to know how hazardous the parasite control chemicals are to unwary farmers, check out the PPE worn by the factory workers and safety measures where it's made. These are toxins designed to be used in animals with short lifespans. Far too many farmers take unnecessary chances with their health. From simple things like not wearing appropriate eye and ear protection, respiratory ailment guards and chemical PPE. .

@@marleneclough3173Even indoor sheep are fed grass in the form of hay. Nutritionally identical except for the moisture content, technically even more nutritional as the sheep aren't eating sub-optimal growth stages of grass. The hay is harvested at the optimal time, just before going to seed, to provide the highest quality feed. This has a neat effect of allowing farmers in areas of high soil fertility to feed more sheep (or any grazer) off a smaller area of hay than the amount of grazing land would be needed for pasture raised sheep. It comes with trade-offs, for sure, but it's actually quite healthy for the sheepies.

Have you thought about selling your dirty wool to gardeners/allotment owners? It makes fabulous compost type of base for runner/pole beans. It can be kept in breathable bags for over winter ready for the following spring. As a child we used old woolen cardigans, cardboard, cow pats and anything which would help hold moisture and things which would feed the plant.

That was an extremely good educational video. Being in Alberta Canada, we dont have the same problems as you do. The information that I found most interesting was about having the sheep in good shape by breeding time. The fact that if she is low on the body score and gets bred, any ewe lambs in her will not have as good fertility. There is such a lot of science involved with raising livestock and even growing grain. Thanks for a great video. 🇨🇦

Hi, I have a question. I hope you can help. When pouring on a lamb with clik extra if the lamb goes under the ewe and clik extra rubs off on the ewe does that put the ewe into a 40 day withdrawal the same as it would the lamb? It would only be a wee bitty on the ewe but would any amount be enough to put it into the long withdrawal? I was wondering if it's the same when putting sheep threw the te-pari, a bit of splash on the side then a ewe runs threw and it's transferred onto her. I hope that reads as well as it did in my head, Donna.

its very interesting to hear the lambs need to have used up their maternally derived antibodies before they get their own vaccination.. not something i knew ! wi time pressures its goin to be difficult to achieve no period where the younger lambs are not covered by the vaccinations so no wonder we get odd losses despite being vaccinated or they havent had the full time for immunity to develop ...lambing later is gonna have a knock on effect isnt it. if 4 weeks lambing is not until say mid may then 3 weeks later makes a first jab in early june , second jab early july, 4 weeks later those lambs wont be fully covered until early aug ..all makes ye think so thanks for the heads up

Cammy, You not only inspire future farmers and wholesome entertainment, but you reach out to so many with your attitude. You show energetic isn't a bad thing, get high on real grass, get away from video games a few hours, care about others. You show you can have ugly setbacks, but you move on quickly. You quickly and completely take the responsibility for mistakes without excuses and move forward. You get embarrassed, tell everyone, but you don't hide it. You work your butt off and then maybe get some pub time in. Your talk and walk respect and care for others (sheep and humans). All this instills so much in young and it is reassuring to older who get tired of the direction society is going. So incredible!!!!!!!!!!! God Bless you and the family... and the farming community.

Yes!! Generational trauma! (When an individual experiences trauma, their body may adapt by adjusting gene expression, and some of these changes can be passed on to their children, akin to inherited “notes.” However, these changes are not definitive but rather adaptable and can be rewritten by our own life experiences and actions.)
