Hi Mel - I've made Ginger jeans once. Pocket bags were straight so I'm not sure what's going on with yours. I will however say that it took me 3 days to figure out how to get them in as it was so hard for my brain to work to face them in the correct direction to turn out correctly. I'm not kidding you when I say that my brain was officially fried. Nothing else on the pattern was a problem. Finished them beautifully to learn that I sewed the flipping yokes on backwards!!!! I contacted Closet Case and they said it happens to people all the time. It has taken me some months to get over this. I will try them again. PS: I have a Bernina Record 830 as well and loved your tip regarding where to line up on the presser foot for top stitching. I've been stalking ebay for a vintage edge stitch foot (which I LOVE on my computerized Bernina) but now won't have to. Great job!
Hi ☺️ ahhh I’d read about the yokes so was very reliant on the instructions in that area. Who knows what I’ve done with the pockets, although someone has commented to say the same thing happened with theirs too 😳 did you do the pocket stay version? The Bernita is amazing isn’t it, perfect for topstitching xx
@@HandmadeByDitsyTulip yes on pocket stay version. Your video has encouraged me to face inside waist band with the same pretty pocket bag fabric. I swoon over your Liberty prints. If I ever get back to London, I soooo want to see their retail fabric store. I top stitched my first pair of Ginger Jeans using my Bernina B350 and it worked great. Love, love, LOVE foot number 10 edge stitch foot for top stitching perfection. You can score some old ones on ebay if you want to use on on your vintage Bernina. Next pair of jeans I will set up Record 830 for topstitch only and use Babylock serger and Bernina computerized for construction. Love your videos Mel. Keep up the good work. Wow. Your stitching is excellent. You really do need a heavy duty machine to go through heavy fabrics. The machine makes all the difference. You did such an amazing job sewing these. I am very impressed. Love the Liberty pockets and waistband.
Ty for the tips on how you constructed the waistband. I might try the same. rigid denim waistbands can make me feel ill after a couple hours: must be where it digs in. And I have some stretch interfacing around
Super informative video Mel, thanks for sharing. I must bite the bullet at some point and make some (once I get to grips with making trousers). Your top stitching is amazing! So perfectly neat. I'd never get it that neat on my sewing machine, I may have an outside chance with my coverstitch though. Not sure its very typical to use an coverstitch for jeans topstitching though!
Hi Mel, disregard my last message - a slip of the finger. Just to say that you have done a wonderful job on your jeans, the fit is spot on. Congratulations on your superb artwork, I loved it 🐶
Wonderful tutorial. I so enjoy the little tips I pick up with every video. My finishing touches keep improving and the better the inside of projects become, the happier I am. Thanks.
Your jeans look great! I found this and the other Ginger Jeans videos you did really helpful, I have the pattern and just need to get fabric and start 😊
I'm so glad you let go of the tutorial idea! It is no fun to put "requirements" on our hobby; I know from personal experience! It's no surprise that your jeans are fantastic!
Lovely Mel.... I think mine have been in a wip bag for longer than yours! One day maybe, but still not able to manage enough good feelings to sew again as yet. Lots of Love. XX😘
Hi Mel! I did a sew along for the ginger jeans and it was so much work, I never made this pattern afterwards because it was too overwhelming. So I think you made great decision hahaa! I love your version.Your topstitching is so well done! Thanks for sharing !
I also wanted to say I think you made the right decision in not doing the sewalong. As you said your blog should be enjoyable for you or why do it. I have pleasure watching your vlogs so you should, definitely, have pleasure making them.
Hi Mel thanks for this. I made the Ginger jeans and the same thing happened to my pockets and I am not sure why? Must be something to do with the fly. Can't see why though. Pockets are same size at side seams but right pocket is half inch shorter than the left exactly as yours. Have denim to make another pair so will check out when constructing Pockets! Didn't notice until you pointed it out! Had to cut the stay pockets and beaten edges as they were to constricting!!!
I love your Ginger jeans. They are perfect! For the waistband topstitch did you do the stitch in the ditch? I can never get an even clean stitch on the inside of the waistband. What tips can you share? Thanks!
Thanks Patricia ☺️ I feel the pain with stitch in the ditch, I can never get it to work either. I hand sewed the inner waist and and then did the topstitch after, it takes longer but its the only way that I can get it to work.💕
Brilliant tips on top stitching.I noticed you used blue in the bobbin rather than the gold, was there a reason for that. I gave my old sewing machine away when I had a computerised one (I'm a hoarder and I was persuaded it was best ).I really regret it now as I'd had it for forty years and it sewed everything, chiffon to leather and everything inbetween with no problem. I like your new graphics.
First time watching one of your videos. Nice! (I've subscribed.) I've got those same jeans on my wish list. I appreciated the references to how-to-fit videos & will be watching those. Looking forward to more of your videos! Thanks~ Deb
Lovely topstitching! And I can totally understand that you are bugged by those pockets😂.I would be as well🤔and I am just as curious as you about the cause of it. 😄💃🏻
Thanks Jenni ☺️💕 a couple of people have now said theirs are the same, but then someone else has said theirs is even 🤔 I may email closet case to check what I’m doing wrong, or if it’s supposed to be like this xx
