I’ve made some mistakes in my natural hair journey.. let’s talk about it

I need to go back to finger detangling fr. My hair was so much better but I kept falling for the hype of using those detangle brushes

@insa2242 there ya go! I kept saying a brush cannot unwind a knot or tangle. It can only break thru it, whereas your fingers can gently unwind the knot. I was not convinced and therefore continued finger detangling. Sometimes people believe because something is heavily advertised that it's the truth, but find out over time it's not.

I've tried it several times but it sends like I always have tangles that I can't get out without my tools.

@@morgank98 It takes a lot of time and patience, you really have to go tiny section by section. I usually then use a wide tooth comb to go over once, but if I feel a resistance, I put the comb down and go back in with my fingers

I like the Jamaican black castor oil line. That’s it. But only styling products. Not shampoo. Dries my hair out.

@@ISaidWhatWhatinThethe live of shampoo & conditioner made my hair feel like cement. Their non shrinkage line was my fave but was discontinued it seems a few months after it came out

@@kerri6011 my hair has changed as I’ve aged. But I was also told they changed the formula when they sold it. I have a couple clarifying shampoos in my stash (product junkie/went to hair school) and they cleanse without making my hair feel like a wire scrub 😭. Maybe it’s the protein in it that’s too much on my hair. Idk. I just don’t use it. I used to use that brand and As I Am, but it’s changed from 13 years ago when I used it. I’ve tried several times and my hair said no ma’am. lol. I’ve also tried Carols Daughter and I’ve never liked it bc it makes my hair very hard and dry. But I still try new products all the time and then I give them away when they don’t work out.

Back in 2013, I attempted to wear my natural hair and I used Shea Moisture. My hair didn't like that product. Fast forward to July 2018, I went to a barber and got a big chop. Learned that my hair loved Cantu and As I Am. The shine and those curls that I had. I was like "Ooh, I got good hair"😊😊 I still don't wear my hair out.. however I keep it washed, deep conditioned and moisturizer. TGIN, Elite Hair Care and Aunt Jackie's are my favorite brands. I agree to your first point…all these influencers do is push products…especially on TikTok, it’s crazy. Many of these black companies have sold out to larger companies and are now non-black owned…Even these so called, “black owned” companies have agreements/partnerships with non-black folks….so, what do you want these black companies to do? Black folks don’t own any major materials/supplies factory/distribution corporations. I know black folks do not want to hear this, but many other groups have economically surpassed black folks along time ago….

I like this comment because I just cannot get with the idea of a complex hair routine. I have very thick hair and it’s a lot of it. It already takes me hours to do my hair on a minimal hair routine. I’m definitely not going to add more products.
