I 100%'d the Cuphead RIP-OFF, Here's What Happened

The fact the cow controls the spaceship is so fun. Is this an abducted cow that took over? Were the aliens cows all along looking to free theirs human held captives? Honestly a great cartoony boss. With how much actual quality there is to the animation I feel there is a lot behind the scenes of this one.

The concept for the bosses are really great, specially Beethoven, Rocky and Cerberus. It's a shame that the devs focussed in Gun and Run levels, which are the worst part of Cuphead, instead of creating more bosses.

Fun fact: For anyone that didn’t know, the entire games run ‘n gun is literally AI generated, proving that they barely had any budget put into this. Very late edit: Ok holy crap, I’ve never gotten this amount of comments nor likes it’s quite a suprise, anyways, Thank you… I guess!.

7:30 It's because apparently the devs don't know how to despawn enemies. So, if you run past most enemies, they'll just come back as new ones.

The game had potential honestly. Great art, really good animation and good concepts. The levels, gameplay, music and sound effects need a lot of work tho.

I never thought this game would actually be finished, but here we are. It would've had potential for a GREAT game, just cutscenes and sound work are basically needed.

Here's something barely anyone talks - Why are the bosses attacking you? In Cuphead,the bosses either fight against them for their soul contract to not be taken or to defend their ingredients from our protagonists. They don't want their stuff taken and you are forced to take that away from them,of course they won't allow a cup to take what belongs to them. Meanwhile, in E.P, the bosses are jerks,simple has that. They don't have a reason to be against our protagonists at all,even the book. They just go and try to beat them up because why not? It would be okay if the kids were causing a dimensional disruption and they were trying to take them out, believing they were the cause of everything going haywire (and to some stand,they would be right),but nope,absolutely no reason to harm those kids except for being a jerk. The book is the biggest offender to this case - He is the main ANTAGONIST! He leads them to harm's way, he refuses to go with them back home and he will do anything to do what he wants...but why? Why doesn't he want to come back home? Why is he -running- flying away? What does he want? Why is he evil? There's no explanation to his deeds,he is just a big ol' jerk

The 1920s era mob bosses where they sometimes throw pizzas at you is most likely a nod to how they're both Italian stereotypes.

The run and gun levels are automatically generated and also the enemies (like the mosquitos) that fly across the screen spawn at specific sections, so if you go through the level too fast there will be a ton of them that you can’t avoid

Fun fact, the levels were made with AI, it is different every time. This makes it impossible to develop a strategy.

I've watched a bunch of vids about Enchanted Portals and I swear this is the first one to even mention the 'power up' mechanic.

This game is really bad, and it really is "cheaply made", because it had a very rough development. Since everyone thought this game was just a terrible rip off of cuphead, the developer's Patreon failed miserably. This can be seen in the final boss battle, as the first phases are all bosses the developers had to scratch and in the originals trailers, that are full of scrapped mechanics. But, if you see some of the scratched sketches, you can see the developers had some genuinely crcreative ideas. Also, you can see how rough the development was, because all the run levels (so basically everything except the bosses) are procedurally created.

the fact that youtube marks this as a cuphead gameplay in the description is much more hilarious

This game has an insane amount of potential as long as they get a proper budget stick with some of their previous ideas and put in some effort into the level design and more bosses fossils

At least they didn’t rip off Andrew’s nice beard.

All this Enchanted Portals inspired me to finally get Cuphead, and man was I missing out!

Poor Andrew, bro suffered through this mess for us.

Also, in the trailer for Enchanted Portals, the cowboys riding on the bison used to be Native Americans shooting arrows instead of bullets, and where wagons used to be were teepees because controversy.

I supported this game (not money-wise) I thought it sounded cool! We need another Cuphead style game, and it looked cool, but the execution was horrible, the game looked bad and don’t even get me started on the sound design

This game has good potential just not carried out in the best way

The only reason why this game failed is because people called it a straight rip off of cuphead cuz I bet you that it would had been a meh or good game if they had supported them more

The game is cheaply made, but I like the character designs! And the cow boss fight seems amazing

The Art style transitions where a huge missed opportunity. They could of done a Diffrent Art style for each world for example. The game clearly suffered from a lack of funding and it didn't help that this game resembled too much like Cuphead and it got a ton of backlash for it.

The thing is i believe this is even harder than normal cuphead because you only get checkpoints at the boss on top of that you need to change shots every time a new enemy appears And especially hard mode where you cant die once throught the level aswell as no extra health points

Tbh, if they made the character hit box smaller in the water, he wouldn’t be dead from that shock from the octopus

I’ve only just noticed that in the octopus boss fight the ‘spring’ is actually a cork remover that the octopus uses, check the bottom right corner 9:03

So some enemies (like the mosquitos ) are linked to how far you go in game, regardless of how fast you do it. Say like, an enemy spawns every time you move 5 ft forward But you can move like 20 ft every 2 seconds The game would spawn 4 enemies in 2 seconds. And the stacks then two. So speed through the level and you get basically an infinite amount of enemies Go slow and it's reasonable

Your making this game sound a lot better Also be happy you dint play before the first patch

I mean it is hard to code something like Cuphead and to make the player arts, they could do better but it isn't like a button and BOOM! a Cuphead Replica-Game, no no, YOU need to program the whole game with sprites and other stuff. And there is no help, as a game developer (me) I can officially say that the game is hard to make. It would take 1 to 5 years to make a replica of the cuphead game. I ain't that experienced in sprites, maybe multiple game developers can agree or not with my message.

the fight with cerberus actually was the only one with a cutscene

This game was Amazing compared to other game rip offs it had so much good potential maybe Cuphead and Enchanted Portals could have some kinda Crossover someday ooo that would be so cool!

I feel bad for the developers because I know the hardships of game dev and I underwtand it’s a shameless ripoff but to have tiem wasted making this and even if the idea wasn’t made with care game dev is still a lot of work and it’s a shame to see the some talent put in this game was wasted

If they had purely focused on just making a small indie game that costed a dollar, it could have been a success.

Oh my gosh, i thought the getting hit sound effect was edited in, im not even kidding. And then i realized that was actually part of the game and i think i physically cringed.

The original run and guns didn’t even have a static image transition between locations from what I’ve seen. Believe it or not, that was an IMPROVEMENT

I really liked the game the only reason ppl don’t like it is bc it was inspired by cuphead. And with all the constant hate and low budget and staff I think they did pretty great . They had to play their game hundreds of times I’m sure they really were proud of it it’s a shame no one seemed to approve of them. At least they made a game that was both good and a cuphead inspired game
