I just showed my brother this very same route after picking up our mom from airport. After being gone in CA and WI for 10 years I forgot how breathtaking Minneapolis is. I had to find it on RU-vid! Thx good sights and tunes!
I actually had to make this drive recently after I got stuck in KC due to a cancelled second leg due to bad weather in Minneapolis. I rented a car and drove up there. The last hour of the drive was rainy, and when I crested that hill in Burnsville, I could make out the Minneapolis skyline through the rain & the clouds and I then cheered out loud. I was absolutely thrilled that I was close to my destination! It's also an awesome view.
I remember when I moved to Minneapolis from Texas a few years back and I would tell everyone how 35 split in DFW too. I didn't realize they were the only two places where that happened. By the way I love these videos because even though I'm back in Texas and will always be Texan, I miss the Cities every now and then. :)
That was a GREAT ride, and I enjoyed the beat, too! Absolutely loved that approach to downtown Minneapolis, and nice syncing with the ending of the song, with the splashing of the water on your windshield. By the way, the DSLR looks GREAT for night time videos. Have fun with your new toy.
Revisited this video. This is a phenomenal piece of work, Luke. You really pulled out the bells & whistles for the T4i's potential, and excellent creativity with the time of day switch & ending.
A fabulous video! Very pure, lots of character. Lived in St Paul (1958-60), Colette Place along the train tracks to the closed Ford Motor Twin Cities Assembly. The road looks great, but I'd imagine many freeze/thaw events will do a bit of damage...
I just drove this route last Saturday, except I bypassed downtown and got off on I-694. Fuck, for a Saturday, there was no reason for it to be that busy and intense.
I would like to say great job on your video. Really loved this one and the Kansas city videos. I have family in the twin cities metro and I love visiting them there. I have been down some of these highways
Your videos are awesome and u know a lot about highways especially in big cities so thank you for your vids and I hope u come to the south one day or month
Great, glad to see you're doing some Canada vids. There aren't enough Canada time-lapse vids on here. Do you think you could post some vids of Hwy 61 from Duluth to Thunder Bay, as well as some of Fargo and Grand Forks ?
How do you enjoy living in Minneapolis? I am aircraft mechanic and thinking about relocating there. I love all outdoor activities summer and winter. Hows the city life? is there a lot to do? Please inform me with your knowledge, thanks! great camera
MN 65 still exists south of downtown but is unsigned. There is a gap between 10th st and Washington Ave. If you search the "Trunk highway log point" on MnDOT's website they list every highway under state jurisdiction. One can also search the "construction log" and find the road projects on most state highways back to the 1920's.
Very cool video. What movie maker program do you use that lets you put up those road signs like that? I've been trying to figure out how to do this because I've got a TON of footage of me driving thru almost every major city in the east of OKC.
Thanks. A lot of people would love to see that footage. I used Sony Vegas Pro but I think most editors apart from Movie Maker will let you add a timeline to put pictures in. Find a way to get vegas and watch youtube tutorials.
Also if you find yourself in the Chicago metro again( as I can see you were there in previous videos) I would really enjoy a video along I 80/94 borman expressway. Probably from some point in Illinois eastbound into Indiana past I 65
I saw that in the 1950 census Minneapolis had a population of 520,000. But one cannot really judge the size of a city by the population within its borders, especially in places like Minnesota where it was very difficult for Minneapolis to annex surrounding towns and suburbs the way it was done by some large cities in some parts of the country. A metropolitan area population is a much better reflection of the true "size" of a city.
The summers are nicer in Minnesota but the winters are nicer in Texas. But everything considered, I think the Twin Cities is one of the very best places to live in the USA, unless perhaps you have a great attachment to mountain or seacoast environments.
I do not like how the interchange from 35W south to 494 east will still be a clover leaf. That will cause problems, i know there isn't room to make it a over/under but something better needs to be constructed.
There are actually considerably more households within the city of Minneapolis than there were in 1950, it is the number of people per household that has declined so much. Minneapolis households tend toward single people and couples without children or with very few children, with the possible exception of the rapidly growing racial minority population. That portion of residents is what stopped, and eventually slowly reversed the population decline many years ago.
