Player got lucky that the sole DD in the game spawned at the other side of the map, and that the enemy sub on his flank had no interest in hunting him. I-56's lack of Submarine Surveillance consumable means it has no real way of defending itself against enemy subs. It gets outspotted on the surface by nearly all DDs and subs, and underwater it cannot defend itself against enemy subs since it can't see them. It was very risky play just rushing forward like that.
Agree with you on almost of the points about this game and sub disadvantages. He was lucky and enemy positioned was perfect for him. Also his prediction of enemy move was good or he just got lucky as well. And YES, I-56 doesn't have anti-sub warfare, means if you get spotted by enemy sub, you are in quiet a pickle. But this sub had other stuff like: 1) it's a torpedo shotgun- salvo of 6 torps every 30 sec with range 12.5km. Accosting ones sucks, only 6km of range and ping effect is weak even with buffs, I use them only on dd's when periscope depth is not an option 2) High speed above water and periscope depth. 3) You don't play this sub as a sub, but as a torpedo boat that can hide in matter of seconds by diving in. Then you need to know how to dive out just in front of enemy and shotgun him. Also you need to know where to position yourself and when to dive in not to get spotted and when and where to dive out. It's a hard play but once you master it it's very very interesting "boat" to play. I play it in Ranked battles, currently very near gold (I am by no means a master in this game) but I enjoy playing this sub. One round I die without doing any damage or little, because I get spotted by enemy sub or dd, like you mentioned. These are to avoid and go for big hogs. Another round Kraken Unlashed, 250K damage, etc... You may have a chance with dd with acoustic torpedoes but you got to know what you doing and a little luck too. Enemy sub=absolute nightmare, you may get away only if a bad sub player is on another side. Long story short, it's a torpedo boat that can dive, that's how you play it.
And if I recorded every game of mine with this sub, I would have video way wilder than this. Again, I repeat: I am in no way master or even good in this game. I just get lucky a little and take opportunities when arise.

Usalo con la flags de embestidas y es de ultimo recurso contra destructores, siempre antes de entrar contra 3 barcos usa el radar. Primero acorazado, segundo crucero y tercer el destructor(embestida). Nunca ataques al CV con este submarino.
Subs can be detected by planes at periscope and surface, also makes sense that Sub spots planes while submerged because technically in real life the subs could hear the planes and thats kinda spot.
doesn’t really make sense to ping, the homing torps are only 6km and the i56 is so huge that the ping will guarantee that you’ll eat depth charges the dummy fired torps are way better
The entire team can see your sonar ping, even while in smoke. This example right here is 'not turning the rudder enough of the time' This is basically just stealth dd play from t5 at t8 level.
