A invention where drivers could communicate with other drivers, emergency workers and had weather updates, would sell really well. I'll check around for such a device.
I just went through Rawlins where big rigs were piled up on b o t h sides of the freeway. Tailgaiting, speeding , . I am astonished as to how these rigs catch up to and follow so close behind other vehicles that are already exceeding the speed limit! Someone mentioned in these comments,- 'Tailgating at 4 mph , ,?.' There is a DoT guidline for a particular number of seconds behind the vehicle in front of you. This adjusts for all speeds. A, what 80+ thousand pound rig following 30 feet behind another vehicle at highway speed, with packed ice on the road surface , . This is phenomenal to me.
Watching some of those pile up videos: 2 things come to mind; the speed at which the trucks are going for the conditions and if they had CBs they give out a shout of warning. It may be very icy.
A c.b. would not have helped he was already in it. Turn the wipers down, clear the crap off your dash, stop tailgating and get out of the left hand lane. And maybe find another company.
A CB radio is a MUST for truck drivers... every driver should have one, but hey thats just my opinion n besides im a baby rookie driver with a CB radio
I have a CB in my truck and even though my idiot co-driver doesn't have it on when he's driving, I make sure it's on and ready for when I'm driving. I don't like not knowing when all I need to do is listen. 90% of the time it's a very useful and important piece of equipment to have in your truck.
It's a nice day here in this particular video !! I grew up here!! And the Winds can be pretty harsh on the fuel! Loads and driver's!! Rough Road at all times of Year! Be Prepared and Be Blessed! Merry Christmas everyone 2018
Oh by the way... we played in this weather.... worked in this weather... and the daily grind between Cheyenne and all points nearby, statewide and Colorado also... that commute to Denver Colorado from Cheytown... back in the day of the Mousetrap
Wait, so you have all these gadgets in your truck but your asking what is going on ahead of you? Why don't you have a $100 Cobra 29 LTD CB radio in your truck? This is EXACTLY what it's for. Opposing traffic TELLS you what's going on ahead of you.
Very distracted driver to I mean why would you not have your GPS unit hung up why do you got to keep pulling it up off the dash you know I need two hands that motherfuker a couple times
Love it and I quote “ oh man these roads are getting bad” yeah my first thought would be to make a video too. Nah just fucking with ya , that’s a dumbass move.
Yes CB radio maybe you should get one? I 80 WY. I hate that 50mph side wind in ice and snow east bound from the top of the pass to Cheyenne absolutely slip sliding and away twice I recovered without a scratch but the pucker factor was tremendous!
I live in Cheyenne and I know your weather, even though you're only 50 some miles from us, is much different at times. My nephews went to UW so I've heard the stories of them driving from Pine Bluffs to Laramie. But you know what, I've never had any problem driving 80 even when it's shitty out. But, I'm a pussy and drive really slow in snow/ice so that's probably why. I've rolled a pickup 2.5 times in snow and learned my lesson 30 years ago...
I will be driving on that Interstate next week, I carry clorox to squirt on my tires and it helps give you traction if you start to slide pull over and put it on your tires. I will hve a CB!
I've used Clorox before. It helps give you traction. I think it's frowned upon though. But it saved me one night in Pennsylvania. Driving on ice, I got stuck going up a hill. Luckily my truck didn't slide back down the hill. But tried that bleach trick that I heard a driver talking about at the truck stop. It worked. It doesn't work all the time though.
Just typical winter weather for that area ....you actually had mild snow conditions to drive through that day .. the wind wasn't blowing and it was warm enough for slush ... it's norma way worse
typical new school driver. "what's going on?" but no CB radio radio. so what if you slip seat, a radio is 3 wires and your done. I slip seat every day, and I take my radio every day, it can save your life.
If you are working slip seat, you are also a newbie. No tenured driver is going to be slip seating unless the pay is incredibly good to put up with that shit.
sisters mountain pass 25 years both directions dedicated west coast now retired o/o Only thing i miss is my friends and the places i stopped like little america for the 35 cent cones lol maybe cost more now lol
Your truck should always be equipped with a radio. It’s a huge safety factor for highway and bush hauling. Your company should be responsible for installing one as well as keeping their employees safe.
No excuse to not have a damn CB radio!!! All TRUCKS SHOULD HAVE EM AND KEEP EM ON!!!! THAT PILE UP NEVER WOULD'VE BEEN AS BAD IF Y'ALL SLOW DOWN AND USE DAMN RADIO
LOL I like your caps lock. Normally that irritates the shit out of me. It shows real woman rage and that's usually very awesome! And I agree with you 186,262% so don't turn that rage on me please heh heh heh. Plus the "Y'all" is always worth a thumbs up. Hey, I was born in Oklahoma, the land of "Y'all"...
Jon Thurlow I've got all kinds of rage being married to a bullhauler and being in that truck with him and seeing all the stupid S*** that happens that if with just a little common sense would've prevented most accidents lol..I have real bad anxiety disorder ( didn't use to) and that makes me more on edge I guess .we drove all the way from Yuma Co to Kentucky and not a SOUL said a word on the radio. Was peaceful but just goes to show no one uses em anymore..use to you had to worry about people in cars doin silly stuff now it's truckers too .seen it too many times lol.
Jon Thurlow thanks I get made fun of all time for usin y'all lol.. especially up north lol... I'm usually a pretty calm nice person but when it comes to stupidity I speak it as I see it ( gets me in trouble sometimes )
I suppose all these truckers are professional drivers. No one has used the hazard lights when approaching this pile up. Most drivers ( on the other side of the road at least ) are driving without lights. There are basic rules of trucking and driving. How could they get a prof license? Obviously in a crash course! How to become a prof. driver in 3 months or less? Trucking is more than holding the steering wheel and hammer down. People should switch on their braines, if they have one. To become a truly prof driver takes 3 years in west and north European countries, where we have such weather conditions too.
the roads in America are overwhelmingly populated with these inexperienced rookie truck drivers now. they don't get properly trained in most cases... just look at all the RU-vid videos of all these worthless drivers tearing up equipment out here everyday! this country throughout the years have regulated so fucking much bullshit out here that the good drivers are disappearing by the minute... and now being replaced by these driving puppets of the large corporate machine in the name of saving money. it's not about safety... just money. and these guys and girls are mostly clueless... they don't even realize how endangering they are to others and themselves. I could go on and on. just listen to this guy... then pay attention to how he is driving. it's all about him... nobody else. sorry about the long comment... I'm just very passionate about trucking and it sucks watching what used to be awesome just turn to shit.
Man I do not miss driving across Wyoming trying to cross that state in the winter will keep your ass cheeks tight 😀😀😀😀😀 damn no CB I don’t like that slip seating you always gotta get your belongings out of the truck
Get your self a pair of vice grips and weld your antenna to your vice grips then you can put it on any of the other trucks you drive, do I have to teach you rookies how to drive.
These youngsters these days! In 34+ years of driving, I've seen alot of dumb shit happen, but I never in my wildest dreams imagined all the dumbshit drivers with CDL's. This new generation of drivers are reckless and complainers. They think they know it all and none of us old timers know anything about driving. Especially Winter driving. Especially I-80 Winter driving. Take that 70 truck pileup on I-80 in 2015 as picture of reckless idiotic youngsters with no respect for the road, the conditions or each other. Pathetic. The guy in this video sounds like a guy from the eastcoast. Like the guy whose comments I saw, this driver is slip seating and doesn't want to buy and hook up a CB. They do sell portables, you know. Most new trucks have built in antennas. You just hook your power cord to the built in terminals and attach the provided coax to your radio. Badda bing, badda boom...you got yer radio going...don't worry about it......
It takes 2 minutes to remove a CB , lololol. lame excuse. Not to mention if you are slip seating, you must be a new driver. Or you are working for a very lame company.
This driver obviously has no clue ."It looks really bad" That road is totally clear. Anyway, obviously you didn't watch the whole video. He complains that the reason he doesn't have a CB is because every time he goes to a terminal he has to take his stuff out of the truck - apparent slip seating. Well poor baby. The 3 connections on the back of the radio take what, a oouple minutes at best to unhook? And I just got done driving on the Massachusetts Turnpike during a whiteout, you couldn't even SEE the asphalt. I mean, if you drivers think that what you see in this video is bad roads, you might as well hang it up and go home. Permanently.
yeah,, first year flunked !! TO LAZY TO SWITH OUT A RADIO!! That's why I ALWAYS TURNED DOWN " SLIP- SEATING COMPANIES ". THEY ARE THE " MOST DANGEROUS COMPANIES " IN BUSINESS IN AMERICA, " SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY DONT CARE " ABOUT THEIR DRIVERS SAFETY OR COMFORT. GOT TO PUT UP WITH " WHO YA WORK FOR " !!!
With all the DoT oversight etc, I m bewildered as to how you truckers can operate these huge rigs with such a lacking ability to understand/correlate simple physics and common sense. Compiling some of these videos and dropping them off with the DoT, I can imagine the shocked reactions to what m o s t of you truckers believe to be ok, and as to what you think you are entitled to.
Goin too slow can be just as bad as too fast. Need to know the differences. You gotta be like me, born in this shit, North Central Montana. Most of you don't know how to walk on it let alone drive on it...
You should have paid more attention when you went to school, then you would have been smart enough to get a proper job instead of pushing a truck around :)
