I have only used these versions off of ebay for the last 5 or so years. They last just as long and I change my grips every year (at the longest) so I have zero complaints other than having the extra 70 dollars in my pocket.

To be fair, when you don’t have the align grips installed on the club, you can’t feel the ridge stick out. It only “protrudes” when installed.

Hi Simon Really interesting video. I bought some Tour Velvet copies (they didn't have Golf Pride on them) from ebay last year at less than £1 a grip. They too had that distinctive smell, they didn't feel too thin and the grip pattern was identical. They have lasted very well but I will have to replace them sooner than with the real thing. Without trying to teach you how to suck eggs on grip replacement, but some readers might find it useful, this is an additional step I take when fitting: I sometimes used to find it difficult to get the logo/grip pattern lined up properly, but I eventually worked out that if you make a a sharpie mark on the shaft, using the centre mark on the old grip as a guide before removing it, line up is very easy.

Love your honesty..was telling my friend with the same thought process. Since he's a beginner and the second hand set purchased was £40 complete with everything, it doesnt make sense to go to a pro shop and replace all the worn off grips with the original ones..better just apply those cheapo ones..and once hes better at golf, get a good proper set, and u can slap it with new original grips if he wants to. It just doesnt make sense to me, to replace grips which cost more than the whole set it self.

A little tip Simon, you can put the fluid in the grip and pour it out from the little hole in the top, its less messy. I have used the grips lots of times and to be honest they are ok, just use more tape under the grip, prefer the ones with out the alignment lines on though. Lasted well and scrub up ok when dirty.
@jeremyfox5381
@jeremyfox5381 3 года назад
I know from working in the clothing industry that there are some factories that sell off exactly the same item at a fraction of the price..sometimes with a tiny flaw in them, sometimes without the logo, but often just because they can! I bought some of these same grips...although maybe slightly better quality and they are actually great when they are fitted and worked out at under £3 per grip. I just put on an extra layer of tape to my normal, but the align works and the 'gripiness' is just the same. They probably won't last as long, but so far I have had them on for several months and they are as good as new.

I bought the same grips off eBay, as you said for the price I knew there was a good chance they was fake, and yes they where, the colour (red) and golf pride print at the bottom came off when I used white spirits to fit them, other than that I’ve got no other issues, feel good and plenty of grip, you’ve got to keep the Chinese sweat shops going through these hard times

I started to re-grip my own clubs about 2years ago thinking how hard it must but,but after trying on a old wedge and seeing how quick and simple it was soon did my whole set ,new grips make old clubs feel like new and you get the satisfaction out of doing it,but watch out for your friends as soon as they know you get asked to do everyone's lol,yes you get what you pay for on eBay try using pro shops getting rid of the old stock 👍

Yep, that's the right answer. I always buy local if I can, even if it costs a little more. I know if there are problems, I can go back to the store and they'll help me out and I'm putting food on the table for that guy and supporting golf in my area.
@adamstubbs4376
@adamstubbs4376 3 года назад
Get where you are coming from, but when a grip costs £3.50 and most pros will probably charge £8-£9 to do it then that few quid is actually £5/£6 per club, so soon adds up if you're having 10+ clubs done. But each to their own.
@thehairygolfer
@thehairygolfer 3 года назад
@@adamstubbs4376 The grips I use are £8 and are fitted free. The clubs that get used the most for my practice wear first so I never have a whole set done at a time. I have done my own but I can't be bothered now.

Low odor mineral spirits or paint thinner works for activating most tapes. Leaving the tape backing barely on and centered on the back as a catch for the fluid also reduces how much is needed. Pour the fluid and use the tape backing to make a quick up/down swipe to wet the tape. If you have access to an air compressor most grips can be removed and reused. All that is necessary is an old-fashioned bag tube cut to the length of the grip. (for separating the clubs) . Slide the tube over the grip, hit the end of the grip with air and work the grip loose. Once loose continue to apply air to work the grip off the club. This can be done faster than cut-and-peel once you figure it out. The one downside is it's quite loud.

I bought a Super Stoke putter grip. If it last me a year I’m happy with it. I bought from Temu. 1/4 the price of buying them in store.they feel as good as any super stroke. For me well worth it. My super stroke didn’t last much more than a year here in Florida .Paid $8. Vs $30. Looks and works great. I plan on buying more.

Great video, always fancied having a go at replacing grips myself. As for the grips, if I were selling a set of clubs and the grips needed changing, then sure, I'd get the cheap copies. They'd look better and for a relatively small outlay could mean getting a lot more money for the clubs.

Excellent video and very informative. I recently bought a set of Callaway XR irons with New Fake Golf Pride Allignment Grips as shown in your video. I paid in total £158 plus £12 postage. Got to say I hate fakes and the quality and feel is so poor. I complained to eBay to return them and get a refund. Also I bought a grip for my driver from eBay and that was fake too. So I don’t buy grip’s from eBay unless it’s from a Golf Shop advertised on eBay. I see what you mean if you have really cheap clubs but honestly the clubs would look stupid having fake state of the art grips on a bunch of hippo clubs for example 😂😂

Ive been using the midsize mcc plus 4 Golf Pride grips off a seller on Ebay and can honestly say there is no difference in quality maybe i struck lucky but when i questioned the seller on authenticity he replied "rest assured factory oem" ..third year in and absolutely no wear ,i think at the very worse they are seconds with minor flaws ,but darned if i can find it, they even all weigh identically.with many positive feedbacks from many happy golfers. think i may just buy a few packs.

I just happen to have an exact authentic grip bought from a reputable vender here in Canada. Still has the shrink wrap on it and compared it to your video. It was exactly the same except on the barcode the outside numbers were closer to the bars. Have the same colour also and the numbers on the code were exact! Looks like an inside job to me. BTW, brave man for doing the regrip in the living room. I used a vice grip with rubber covers and a painters tray to catch the liquid. Did mine before the last lock down. Cheers

Hi Simon, I've just regripped a set of ping g2 irons I bought off ebay 4 to sw, they were £25 for 12 midsize tour grips and tape. Look similar to tour velvet grips, dead easy to do and look great. Got 4 left so might do my wedges aswell. At just over £2 a grip they are good value and gave me something to do in lockdown, it amazes me that people use grips that are knackered and how they play with them is beyond me. Great content keep it up.

I unknowingly bought a set of these about a month ago. 10 grips for $50 on eBay. They do look and feel okay so far, but they are pretty thin and the align strip seems to be just painted on. It is more like an align "stripe" (no ribbing) which defeats the purpose of buying an "Align" grip. Gripping them was very difficult. They were extremely difficult to slide on. And since the align strip is fake, getting it straight before the solvent dried was maddening.

Hey Simon, I bought a set of these for my last set of clubs. The deal was too good lol. And there is a small ridge once they’re on the club. I have a set of Yonex Cyberstars that I got in 2008, the grips were ruined. I couldn't afford to buy a new set yet so had to do something. Golf bidder offered me £25 for my clubs so I wasn't going to shell out £100 on new grips. I went and purchased these exact FAKE GRIPS in mid-size, ( i knew they would be thinner) and regripped all my irons in them.... and... it was the best thing I could have done for the clubs and my bank balance. I believe I’m playing with fake MCC+4 now. Got half dozen from a playing buddy who picked up a few dozen on Wish. Been playing them for the last three years, twice weekly and they’re not even close to ready for change. Clean them up with dishwashing liquid and some scotch bright and voila, like brand new. Unfortunately, the midsize grips are heavier so they will affect your swing weight if you’re changing from a standard grip. Golf pride‘s website say the midsized Align should weigh about 68 g and that’s exactly where my grips were when I installed them. 68.6g. Every single grip weighed out at 68.6g. Pretty impressive for a knock off.

Hi Simon. I play off 8 and bought grips for under £4. Not from eBay. They're great. You don't need to spend loads of money on grips 👍

That’s what golf pride grips cost in America 😂

@shabazahad isn’t £4 like $6? Tour velvets are $4.99 and Tour wraps are $5.99

Simon, have you tried any of the fake vokey wedges from alibaba or wherever. I get why the woods would be horrible but with something like a wedge it feels like there couldn’t be much big of a difference

This happened to me just this week! I couldn't even get it on the club a :/. Ended up just cutting it straight off and throwing it away.

I purchased a set of ebay in 2018.... For a set of GP Tour Velvet they felt good.... I gripped 1 club and decided to use 6 layers of tape on each club.... I played golf 2 times a week for 13 months in Florida ....they were slick....had to go back to the real ones

I have a fake grip on a practice club I have. The colour partially came off when the solvent touched it plus they got shinny quickly. They are ok as you said if you have a cheap set of clubs but I’d change them more often than good quality grips. Also you may find that a professional won’t fit these for you so learn how to fit them yourself. The only plus they have is price.

I bought some fake Golf Pride Align grips from ebay last year to grip my old AP2s, they looked the real deal and the quality wasn't bad 🏌️‍♂️

I bought 5 Golf Pride grips for £15 from China too... lol! It's not bad but the rubber does wear off a little quickly

I’ve just fitted 13 MCC +4 to my set and honestly they feel and look fantastic. I have heard about the smell of fake golf grips and these did not smell bad actually. Delighted for £40

I have also purchased the MCC+4 midsize (blue/gray) from eBay that are fake. I have compared them to a real version and they are a excellent copy. The most notable physical differences are that the blue colour is slightly lighter and the taper on the butt cap is slightly less than the real one. But the biggest give away is that the product code on the plastic wrap say that it is a standard size. Having installed them on my clubs (less my driver which has a real grip), their performance is so far is identical to the real grip.

I have bought some New Decade fakes before. They were certainly better than the ones you bought but the smell definitely gives them away and also the font on the grip isn't quite right. They are certainly better than old grips but possibly go harder a bit quicker. As a quick replacement certainly not bad but I would spend money on a genuine velvet grip rather than a fake MCC or New Decade.
