The CGI and special effects are really impressive for their time, and Peter Cullen voiced Optimus Prime to perfection. That man never disappoints. Also, it doesn't matter how many times I see it, the scene with Optimus and the other Autobots arriving on Earth will always give me the good kind of chills.

seeing them all transform around sam and mikaela for the first time was like seeing dinosaurs for the first time in jurassic park, it was so incredible!

The second film was my favorite out of them all. You should definitely give it a chance. 😉

Besides James Earl Jones, Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill, and Josh Keaton, Peter Cullen is one of the greatest voice actors of all time in my opinion.

For once, this movie wasn't based off comic books or cartoons. This was based off of the toys first. I'm glad the creators or the studios waited until the CGI caught up to the potential. I remember seeing this for the first time and thinking, "If I were to ever go back in time like Back to the Future, I'd have this movie loaded onto an iPad and freak the 1950's people's minds." The CG in this movie was pretty spectacular.

That cheesy line where he says "more than meets the eye" is a reference to the original cartoons, that was the catch phrase.

That ending monologue, the music, everything about it is so nostalgic for me, and I believe for a bunch of other people from my generation as well. Just reminds me of simpler times

If Mary wants to watch more Transformers, I couldn’t recommended the show Transformers Prime highly enough. Great characters, story, writing, fights and it’s easily the best transformers show to date, and Id regard it as highly as shows like adventure time and teen titans.

Transformers was a GREAT summer popcorn movie! The theater crowd was so much fun. None of the movies rate very high critically (Bumblebee might be the high point), but they all entertained. All of the Transformers movies rank among the loudest I have ever experienced in theaters!

The OST for this is actually top tier, especially "The All Spark".

The first time I saw this movie, it was in a theater at the premiere in the Philippines while I was visiting family. Incredible experience. The first time seeing Optimus Prime transform on-screen was breath taking! I was one of the first people to review this movie to the Transformers community back in the U.S. (non-spoiler, course)! Definitely recommend both Bumblebee and Rise of the Beasts.

Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime since the original 1984 cartoon, said that when he was getting ready to audition and preparing a voice to do, sought advice from his older brother who was a U.S. Marine. His brother told him that true leaders never need to yell or shout. Peter based the voice of Optimus Prime on his older Brother. As for the quality of the subsequent films? There are some highs and lows, but I would recommend at least the next two. "Revenge of the Fallen" and "Dark of the Moon." They serve as a pretty good Trilogy. Afterward, Shia Leboef left the franchise, and Mark Walberg became the lead human character. His films are really not great at all. They extend the story past a good ending and are easily skippable. "Bumblebee," and "Rise of the beasts" serve as prequels, and they are both pretty good as well.

The first one of the Michael Bay has always been my favorite as kid, but Bumblebee was the best of the live action movies.

I'll never forget when Prime says "My name is Optimus Prime," the theater went nuts. It was the first time we had heard the original actor reprise this role in over 20 years prior. This movie was my entire summer 2007: Saw it three times in theaters. I bought every toy, the music soundtrack, the score, and blasted that Linkin Park song on repeat. Like you said in the beginning, the sequels aren't held in high regard but probably worth watching the second and third to finish Sam's "arc."

I highly recommend Bumblebee next! Skip the rest…great reax!

It seems like nobody's yet mentioned that _this_ Transformers was a re-imagining of toys and video content going back to the 1980's. Yes, the Saturday morning cartoons were basically half hour commercials for the toys in one sense, but Peter Cullen has been the voice of Optimus Prime for nearly 40 years... and I don't think Maryy is aware of that. Lots of people have mentioned Bumblebee (2018) but I'd love to see what Maryy thinks of The Transformers (1986) too.

My mom took me and my uncle (her youngest brother) to go see this movie in theaters back in summer 2007. (I was 9 years old back then, I turned 10 that fall.) This movie made me fall in love with the franchise from the start. (My first introduction to "Transformers" was with the 1986 movie. I do recommend watching that as well.)

I recommend the Bumblebee film. It's sort of a reboot of the Transformers franchise set in 1987. Hailee Steinfeld's Charlie Watson and Generation 1 Bumblebee (1971 VW Beetle) have a great character dynamic.

You're right about Optimus Prime being noble. When Peter Cullen came up with the voice for Optimus Prime, he specifically wanted to make it sound wise and noble. It's a story he's told many times about someone he used to know. I can't remember who it was, but they told him something which resonated ever since his first audition for Optimus. If you're going to be a hero, don't feel you have to shout to seem strong. "Be strong enough to be gentle." And that's Optimus Prime in a nutshell. Wise, noble, warm and gentle, and in such a way that his inner strength is never in doubt!

I was really surprised that you never watched Transformers before, but now that you finally are I think you might actually enjoy them. Optimus and,Bumblebee are my 2 favorite characters, and I know you'll come to really like Optimus. He's the true definition of leadership, spirit, strength, and nobility.

In my opinion, I’m all in for a full series reaction up to the reboot on this channel. I think that these movies aren’t as bad as people make them out to be. Sure it has its flaws but I feel like these movies captured the essence of a blockbuster especially back in the day. And it’s also great to see the spike of reaction channels giving these movies a chance. I would like to hear your true opinion on these movies. 👍

The Transformers all started with a kids cartoon back in 1984. I used to watch the original cartoon all the time, when I was little. Some of my favorites from the original were the Dinobots.

I grew up with Rocky & Bullwinkle, and other classics. I was less than impressed with the Transformers toys and the cartoons. When I heard they were making a live action movie, my first reaction was "Oh, my Lord." ... Then I saw the trailer, and I was hooked. This is a terrific popcorn movie. I notice you went from "meh" to deeply invested. 😆 For me the parents were low key MVPs, especially his mom and the bit about masturbation. I was rolling. There's a reason you didn't see LeBeouf or Fox after the first few movies; Fox was hard to work with, and LeBeouf is just plain weird. Studios want to avoid issues, so... I don't think I watched any of the other movies in full. I stopped after the first two, IIRC. Bumblebee is supposed to be good.

This film is awesome! People are so negative towards them, especially the sequels. Hating on theses films is more of a meme then anything else. But I don't care what anyone says, I think they're great! -Transformers 2: "Revenge of the fallen" is ok. It's definitely one of the weaker ones, but it's still very enjoyable. It was made during the writers strike so the story is kinda sloppy. -Transformers 3: "Dark of the moon" is great! The only criticism I have is that the third act is a bit too bloated with the action. But it was a great conclusion for Sam's story. To me it's on par with the first one, if not better in some places. -Transformers 4: "Age of extinction: is also great! But it has the same problem as the third, too bloated. This one also serves as a soft reboot for the series by introducing new characters. -Transformers 5: "The last knight": this one is.. bad, the only film in the series I don't like. It was apparently cut to shreds in editing and it made the story really lame and it made no sense sometimes. -Bumblebee: I watched it once and I remember really enjoying it. It's a reboot of the series and it takes place in the 80s.

The dude who voices Optimus Prime in these movies has been doing that character since the cartoon show first aired in 1984. Incase you're curious of the actor who voiced the villian Megatron in the original cartoon, was done by Frank Welker - who ALSO did Fred Jones from the original Scooby-Doo show .

this first entry is the best of Bayformers imo. The 3rd one, Dark of the Moon, is the only other one that comes close to actually being a good film, and the other 3 range from bad to brutal lol that said though, both Bumblebee and Rise of the Beasts were great. Not flawless, but great nonetheless. Looking forward to seeing how deep you end up diving into Transformers! :)

Fun reaction Mary. This movie is definitely the (only)Michael Bay Transformer movie worth watching. Even though this movie changes the Transformers history its pretty good, overall. When this came out no one had see that level realistic CGI effects. In fact to save money CGI in some movies today actually looks less (photo realistic) unfortunately. I hope you definitely check out the 2018 (Bumblebee movie) fortunately not directed by Michael Bay. It stars Hailee Steinfeld I wouldn't say its perfect, but very enjoyable. It has a fun story with heart. It slows down enough so you get to know the characters and has fight scenes you can actually follow. The the rest of the Transformers films directed by Michael Bay are garbage. Not enough story or heart. They are CGI spectacles with zero substance. Just nonsensical CGI fight scenes and childish humor. Mindless crap. The second movie is especially bad. A complete train wreck.

Glad to see this reaction to the 2007 movie, the CGI and effects are still ahead of its time, not only that but optimus is voiced by his cartoon voice actor basically the voice of any transformers fan's childhood, if you want more of this i highly recommend you watch the Transformers prime series as the movies it was an important part for the popularity of this franchise without them transformers would've been as popular as it is right now A series as fun as the infinity saga, really one of the best

Transformers is just a "guilty pleasure" type franchise - don't expect anything too deep but they're FUN movies. And personally I think #3 is actually the best of the series.

Regarding the quality of the movies going forward: *Revenge of The Fallen* is not very good, but most of that can be blamed on the writer's strike that occured from 2007-2008. *Dark of the Moon* is a massive step up, many claiming this movie to be the peak of the live-action movies. *Age Of Extinction* is incredibly overlooked despite its flaws, and is also the first movie to have Optimus have a character arc. *The Last Knight* was so bad, it indescribable. This movie was so awful that Paramount and Hasbro needed to course correct and reboot it all. *Bumblebee* was the first enrty in this new reboot, and took the franchise back to its roots in the 80s. Very fun. *Rise of the Beasts* is the most recent one and follows up on BB and includes characters from the "Beast Wars" era of the franchise. Loads of fun. And then there is *The Transformers: The Movie* from 1986, the original animated movie that served as a bridge between Seasons 2 and 3 of the original 80s cartoon, introducing many thing that would go on to become intrinsic parts of the franchise outside of the live-action movies.

Great reaction, surprised you don't know of Rachel Taylor (Tasmanian, not Kiwi). As someone that grew up with Transformers and still has a soft spot for the original animated movie, my only gripe with this was that they made the character design too busy, as if they were just flexing their CGI skills, but it made them hard to watch in the theatre (IMO).

Mary, if you're going to watch Transformers, you need to do it right and start from the original 1985 Animated Movie to see where all of this is coming from. Yes, by modern standards it is hoky, but for those of us who watched it as children, it was an event. Just like the tagline read: Beyond Good, Beyond Evil, Beyond your Wildest Imagination.

I don't care what anyone says, the first Bayformers movie is unironically one of my most favourite movies of all time because it's fucking kino. I am SO HAPPY that I watched the first Bayformers movie at my local theater when it first came out. Michael Bay is the master of visual flair and audio flair in film-making, because this movie has a lot of eye candy and a lot of ear candy. I always love the first Bayformers movie no matter what. Unfortunately, however, the sequels to this movie are varying levels of mediocre in my opinion. Also, please watch Harold And Kumar Go To White Castle as soon as possible Mary.

It would appear that you have no prior info whatsoever about the Transformers (TF) series. That might actually be a good thing though. You might be able to enjoy them more having no prior knowledge of the TF series from the 80's and later. I recommend the second and the third one ("Revenge of the Fallen" and "Dark Side of the Moon")... which while not as good as this one, do have enough interesting parts to them that you might still like them. 😀 If you like both of them, maybe the 4th and 5th TF movies would be worth it. The main human characters shift, and the farther from the original storyline of the TV series the Michael Bay movies seem to get. There are some things about them you might still like in the others. However, you may like the later Bumblebee movie even more ...which also happens to be closer to some of the older TV series plotlines.

The rest of the movies are good if you look at them as solo movies. They don’t have much continuity in them even the Bumblebee movie and Rise of the Beasts have continuity issue if you try to tie them to Michael Bays movies. I was hoping they would take Bumblee movie and do a reboot of the movies. Some say it is others say it isn’t. One you should look at is the 1986 “Transformers: The Movie” it’s an animated movie that is tied into the cartoon series that started in 1984. I think it was to end the cartoon series but then they had to do one more season to appease fans. When you see it you’ll see how they should really look and not how Michael Bay wanted them to look. The line Sam & Optimus said “More than meets the eye” was the line in the original Transformers cartoon in the 80s. The song was “Transformers more than meets the eye” pertaining to them looking like vehicles but can turn into big robots or vice versa. Peter Cullen who originally voice Optimus in the cartoon series is such an amazing voice actor. He found Optimus Prime’s voice by mimicking his brother who was an officer in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Cullen was also the voice of Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh for many years. The one issue I had with some of the movies was Sam. I didn’t like the way Shia portrayed him or they told him to portray him. The screaming got on my nerves a bit just like Tyrese in most the Fast & Furious movies.

I dunno if anyone else has clued you in Mary. "More than meets the eye." It's not an accident that Sam and Optimus both said it. In the Original Transformers cartoon show... the song chanted "Transformers! More than meets the eye!" So they had Sam stumble awkwardly across that line as a ha ha ha and nodding to the Original Cartoon. Optimus's use of the line was decidedly more deliberate. I enjoyed your reaction as always. I'll be honest, I enjoy all of the Transformers movies, and I think you will too. Yes, there ARE issues with some of them, but if you can get past them, they're just fun movies. I really liked the ones after the third.

So like what if Frenzy only knocked sam to the ground and he lands on his head knocking him out and Mikaela tried to kick Frenzy off of sam and Frenzy was getting angry at Mikaela and she starts to get nervous and tries to run away but Frenzy knocks her down and she lands om her back she panicking she starts kicking at Frenzy and trying to get back up, realizing that it isn't working she rolls on to her stomach and tries to crawl away. Frenzy grabs Mikaela's leg lifts her up a bit and slams her onto the ground stunning her for a second. Groaning she starts to fell her pants being pulled down. Exposing her Shyle Light Blue Floral Thong Panties. Now with her pants around her stuck around her ankles because of her shoes her movement is now limited and she is scared the robot might kill her, so she forcefully rolls onto her back and kicks Frenzy away her pants going with him luckily her shoes don't. She gets up and runs away with Frenzy chasing her. This is when sam wakes up and sees Mikaela being chased so he gets up and runs to a shed and finds an electric saw. Mikaela still in her Shyle Light Blue Floral Thong Panties is running with Frenzy right behind her he jumps onto her back causing Mikaela to trip over a fence and start rolling. Her back hitting the fence she barely stands up as Frenzy jumps on her and starts attacking her she throws him off of her, still in her Shyle Light Blue Floral Thong Panties. Frenzy jumps back at her. Then sam comes and saves her cutting up Frenzy. He says his funny line and kicks his head away then they go find Bee. Sam and Mikaela still in her Shyle Light Blue Floral Thong Panties approach bee and talk with him Mikaela is scared and doesn't trust him. Eventually Bumblebee turns into a car and they get in. Frenzy turns into Mikaela's phone and gets in her purse. They arrive and Mikaela grabs her stuff and puts her pants back on.

Megan Fox is an amazing actress. Before she became famous in Transformers, playing a shallow teenage girl, she appeared in the TV series "Hope & Faith" (2003) where she played a shallow teenage daughter. Such range! But I am looking forward to her upcoming appearance in "The Expendables 4" which will be released next week. Megan's acting is also worth checking out in the music video, "Love the Way You Lie" by Eminem, featuring Rihanna, though its the singers who really sell the song of course.

If you’re not going to continue with the series, my advice would be to try the animated 1986 film. Very corny but a core memory for many due to its scale, score and voice acting, plus the sequels you’re not watching all steal concepts and plot devices from it.

I've been a fan of Transformers for decades now, since the mid 80s. When compared to the previous "Space Opera" incarnations of the franchise, it's bad. There's too much emphasis on the human story, and not enough development of the Transformers, and with each movie that Bay directed, it got worse.

After this one it gets bad… until Bumblebee where it just soars. But if you want to watch 2 great Transformers movies I would recommend the 86 animated movie and the critically acclaimed ending to the best incarnation and series of the franchise (Transformers Prime) called Transformers Prime r Beast Hunters : Predacons Rising

The three with Shia are worth watching…. After that is hard to digest because the actors are over doing it and with their the human/ bot dynamic is almost pointless. Although Last Knight is TIIIIIIIIGHT

If Mary can sit through 32 mediocre, formulaic, and generic MCU films then she can handle the Transformers films they are not that bad people are just hella dramatic

All of the Michael Bay Transformers films have merit to them. Not the best scripts but Bay really lets his imagination run wild with these films with some incredible action sequences. Don't let the negative views on the sequels stop you from checking them out.
