great points about gojo caring about his students and society in general. actually, all of his losses happens because he cares: 1. first fight against toji, he get distracted for a moment because he thinks toji is going after riku and amanai, and then leaves an opening for an attack 2. kenjaku only get to get geto's body because he didnt want to put shoko in the situation of disposing a friend's body 3. in shibuiya, he manages to activate a domain expansion of 0.2 seconds and become tired because he wanted to save the civillians 4. against sukuna, we can argue that the fact he couldnt just evaporate megumi's body in the last purple explosion was a drawback as uro point out about yuta, and is presented throught the series ideologically, to become the pinacle of strenght you must abandon all care for others, all care for an identity (so it is poetic that sukuna, in his modern incarnations, and kenjaku, operates robbing others bodies), and act as a natural calamity. gojo was human, he wasnt a monster, so he couldnt continue being the strongest BUT, his students represent other ideology than the dominant one, so thats gonna be interesting.

I still have incredibly mixed feelings about this chapter but one thing is for sure this chapter has left me with a feel that reminds me of Greek tragedies. Gojo is one of my favorite examples of Solitude coming from overwhelming strength and seeing where the loneliness began all the way to where it somewhat ended has left me with a bit of emptiness but I'd like to believe that when Gojo said that he was hoping it wasn't a dream he was saying that he had finally felt not alone and in being killed by someone stronger than him and being with all his friends again had made him realize that he's not the strongest anymore and that now that he's free of the title of the strongest he also be free of the loneliness that comes with it.

People are also taking at face value what Gojo said about Sukuna not trying. Just because he said doesn't mean it is so. I think that was Gojo's way of admiting defeat, almost joking about how he didn't stand a chance
@arya-man
@arya-man Год назад
Or maybe Sukuna was indeed not trying in the first place. Sukuna explained that he needed Mahoraga to adapt to Gojo's infinity and that Mahoraga's adaptation would speed up everytime he got hit. Which The implies that while Sukuna had the wheel on his head and bore the burden of adaptation, he HAD to get hit so that Mahoraga could adapt. This is why Sukuna took hits from Gojo. But the adaptation was not optimal for Sukuna so again he had to let Mahoraga get hit until a new adaptation was done. Basically Sukuna was forced to hold back and get hit because that was the only way he could win.

I get you and I respect everything you said. You gave me a new perspective of the chapter that I didn’t think about before. Though, I think the problem with this chapter was that it did had a lot of subtext and reading between the lines in order to reach the conclusions that you did. Then that invites the problem where someone can read between the lines too and come up with another and equally valid opinion. For example with Gojo’s face impression. You’re right it could’ve been that gojo felt misunderstood, but when I read the chapter it looked like gojo felt deeply guilty that maybe he was more selfish than he thought he was or something to that affect. Not saying that it’s a bad thing I think it’s great that the community could be split like this, and both sides of the split makes a decent point imo.

@@YeYe-ni7qy well we have a surface level-dimension of the strongest sorcerer of his time who wants challenging fights for fun. we have a dimension of a cheerful, goofy, immature teacher he uses with most colleagues and students to keep them at a distance. we have a lonely guy who couldn't save a lot of his close people despite his power. we have someone who wants to change the messed-up jujutsu system by guiding youth, partially because of the selfish reason of not being the only one to rely on, and partially because of a compassionate reason - he doesn't want them to go through the same his generation did. we have someone who struggles to find a genuine human connection since losing the only one he had because of his power. we have someone who's always struggled with his identity because it's always been connected to his title or clan but never with him as a guy named Satoru - the only times he experienced the semblance of that was in his school years. i can go on because he has quite a few dimensions to his character.

First of all..... Megumi wasnt interested in knowing about his father. Even Gojo didnt bother to tell him after that. Hence I can cut off that theory. Knowing 'about Toji' isnt such a big priority for Megumi considering the position he is in now. Is it that big of a deal that Gojo had to remind it himself even in the afterlife even when he and Megumi both decide they are better off not to discuss of it? In my opinion, I think its about Yuji's father. Gojo has a knack to investigate someone as special as Rika and even Yuta, so he probably did the same for Yuji. Knowing about Yuji's lineage is important in fact, considering he went to fight Sukuna.

Why is her death the only one left in limbo whereas everyone got super solid confirmation? Why set up her whole thing with Momo about jujutsu society and specifically the “beauty standards” of it all to not have it paid off with her coming back disfigured but it not effecting her performance? And then the storyline with her friend felt like it could’ve been fleshed out/explored more but I’m fuzzy on remembering all those details. I just don’t like that compared to Nanami, Geto, etc. we’ve been bread crumbed with Nobara and it feels like Maki kinda became her replacement (I say as someone who’s obsessed with Maki). I honestly was scared when the leaks came out but when i read the chapter i felt a strange sense of closure and relief for gojo's character. It felt like being the strongest was a curse and a burden for him since the literal day he was born, and to die in this manner at the hands of someone that basically strips him of that title of "the strongest" seems more like a liberation of that immense responsibility and the subsequent loneliness he carried his whole life. Even from the moment he got unsealed everyone expected the absolute impossible task of resolving this whole mess by himself, which is reasonable given his role but also another example of him needing to carry the whole destiny of the world on his shoulders. And moving on of course he would feel regretful about not reaching sukuna, since now feeling liberated and satisfied he can finally rest, which is ultimately a satisfaction sukuna won't get to know. It may also be just projection from his part given he felt a lot of empathy towards him. I could ramble more but I don't thing it could have been handled in any other way given his whole arc of having everything but at the same time being unable to do anything. Obviously it's not perfect and we don't how things will continue in regards to his students, but i never expected for things to turn out flawlessly as it is a tricky narrative situation to deal with, but as a result i came out pleasently surprised from this resolution and relieved that maybe he can finally rest from the curse that was caused by his strength.

Yeah after REALLY thinking about this chapter...and trust me, I haven't really been able to get this shit out of my brain for the sake of productivity, I have come to like it overall more and more. Liberating is the right word to describe Gojo's attitude. He finally found someone who could best him, which in doing so, let him relate with his very mortal long gone comrades in a way he didn't think he was able to before. This is vocalized in that dialogue where he states that he was happy he didn't pass from disease or old age. This all goes back to the concept of "love" that was stated by Yorozu, and reiterated later in the middle of the fight. Its a twisted and feral kind of love that only strong fighters can experience, and Gojo experienced just that upon his sudden passing.
@ivanoakmuskrat7843

@@redmangoose182 I completely agree, seeing him reunited with his best friend and comrades was the most human we have seen him in a long time, being able to hear what they thought of him and also reflect on his isolated existence and actions. What sealed the deal for me was him saying "I hope this isn't a dream" and the next panel was him smiling on the ground, i think he truly was content with how things turned out and found some sense of peace in his last moments. And Sukuna as well demonstrated some pretty human emotions telling him that he would never forget him, so I think in some way Gojo managed to connect with him in a mutual sense. Also it's pretty meaningful that the fight ended with Sukuna finding a way to get across the infinity that he had built up between him and everyone else, which was the symbol of his loneliness; meaning that in the end he felt like he maybe wasn't alone anymore. I originally couldn't imagine being satisfied with how the fight would end, but I can't imagine it ending in any other way now. I respect your opinion, but Gojo not expressing regret over failing his students and comrades by losing to Sukuna felt extremely out of character for me. On top of that he claims that he was the weaker of the two when over the course of the battle it was shown that he was the superior combatant, were it not for the Ten Shadows technique and Mahoraga, Sukuna without a doubt would have lost. Then there's, the pacing. Last chapter Gojo's victory was almost certain, yet now we're supposed to accept that he's dead we didn't even SEE Sukuna deal the killing blow, not to mention the fact that by all counts his Six Eyes should have allowed him to see the attack coming and dodge, and if he failed to avoid it, Reverse Cursed Technique should have allowed him to recover from the damage since his Cursed Energy Output was restored thanks to the Black Flashes he landed.

The whole idea of the fight has been if mahoraga adapts its an instant win for sukuna and gege took that literally its just we couldnt have expected that sukuna himself would use that adaptation itself to study it (although it was stated numerous times that a big part of sukunas genius is that he can instantly copy an attack by seeing it once and the fact that mahoraga uses slashing to attack when he adapts to gojo shouldve tipped us off). As for the 6 eyes I think gojo just honestly never couldve seen this coming throughout the whole fight he knew sukuna had a plan and wasnt trying his best but how could he have expect him to use mahoraga as a template so when the slash itself came although he saw it and registered it he probably thought limitless would just shrug it off and when it didnt he knew he lost

@@Aleczandxr Alecz I respect you IMMENSELY as a content creator, but my thoughts haven't changed. Gojo's entire life mission ever since losing Geto has been about changing the status quo in the Jujutsu World by fostering strong allies, but as we've come to learn he assumed the role of a mentor so that his wards wouldn't feel overwhelmed by the same loneliness that consumed Geto. He cherishes them thoroughly, so to not even bother reflecting on how his loss to Sukuna would impact them feels wrong to me. You said that Gojo wasn't bothered because he's confident in their ability, but the King of Curses is not an opponent that any other member of the cast can realistically hope to defeat and EVERY character in the story is painfully aware of this fact. They couldn't even defeat Kenjaku without his help; the majority of their actions during the Culling Games was centered around freeing Gojo from the Prison Realm, now that he's gone they are truly in their darkest hour. Gojo should not have been the least bit optimistic about their chances. Think of it this way: none of the main cast were on Gojo's level, so why would Gojo suddenly delude himself into thinking that they can defeat Sukuna AND Kenjaku who are in a stronger position than ever?

my analysis on gojos character and death, as well as the discourse that he “achieved nothing” in the story: in the story he basically: - can’t stop the plasma vessel from dying - can’t stop geto from becoming evil -can’t intervene during the arc in season one because the barrier and only comes in at the end (doesn’t kill anyone) - in shibuya kills hanami but doesn’t kill jogo (who goes on to kill nanami and others) - gets sealed -comes back and gets killed by sukuna makes him an interesting example of how to do an overpowered character well, as he fails to protect people despite his immense power thus making his status as “the strongest sorcerer” as more of a curse rather then a blessing. as while it garners praise and made people “adore” him due to his power, he ultimately can’t put it to good use. aswell as his power isolating and detaching him from everyone around him. his death at the hands of sukuna is thematically resonate with how he is presented throughout the story as he almost feels like he never got to live up to the hype that his seemingly unlimited power brought with it and his seemingly abrupt and off screen death almost mirrors his character as a whole.

The time skip to the fight was the true part where things went wrong. We needed to spend more than one chapter of downtime with gojo after he got unsealed, we knew he wasnt going to survive this fight. This feels like gojo was given one good fanservice fight and then we got a bait and switch "gojo wins" to "jk he was never even close." It felt like gege wanted gojo out as soon as possible.

I kind of got that impression, though I don't think it was really any worse than the breakneck pace the series has been going at in the culling game. I think all of JJK could benefit from down time to get to know the characters more personally, but for how the pacing has been, I think the whole fight and chapter were really good. Gege definitely wanted Gojo out, but he still wrote him perfectly in character and with plenty of respect imo. Still the best written character.

I love jujutsu kaisen a lot but this is certainly the one thing that has always bothered me when I read the whole manga back in 2021 to get up to date, there's not much space to breath. There's not enough time to expand and explore ideas and/or characters (by which I mean characters that go beyond the main cast like Geto's previous faction of sorcerers) and because of that it feels like an entire gamble to get invested into certain characters or plot points since I don't know if it's gonna go anywhere.

The only think I didn't like was Gojo saying Sukuna didn't go all out and that he didn't think he could beat Sukuna even if Sukuna didn't have 10 Shadows. I'm like "bitch-What?!" So Gojo's, "I'll win" talk and self-confidence was just false bravado?! Also, just because Sukuna didn't use his own technique doesn't mean Sukuna wasn't going all out. Sukuna made to clear that he didn't have anything that could overcome Gojo's infinity. That's why Sukuna depended on Mahoraga to come up with something. Gojo, bless his heart, has been wrong a lot!!🫣 Everyone was NOT okay after Shibuya. Untold numbers of people died, a large number of his Sorcerer colleagues and students died, or were left disabled, and all were traumatized, Gojo said he would win...wrong! We know everyone will not be okay dealing with Sukuna and Kenjaku, heck, Gogo couldn't handle Sukuna. Sady, I have a feeling Gojo will be seeing a lot of fellow Sorcerers and students real soon.😇 What Nanami said about Gojo not caring about others and being just about his own self satisfaction was true, for a time, especially Teen Gojo. Gojo was self involved and didn't care about protecting people when he was young. He admitted it himself. After Riko, Geto's breakdown, and as Gojo got older and matured, Gojo's ideals evolved and he now devotes his life to the new generation and changing the corrupt Jujutsu Society.

I personally don't like this chapter. My issue stems from when gojo talks about sakuna. Specifically when he talks about how strong he was it doesn't feel like gojo it feels like the author is speaking to say no sakuna is really strong and always could have won and its jarring because it contradicts what weve seen. Thats my issue what the author is trying to say contradicts what hes drawn and thats what grates me. Instead of showing us that sakuna was the clear winner he's told us and honestly it's hard to believe. If you go through the fight it always feels like sakuna is supplementing himself to challenge gojo and i find that a failure on geges part if he was trying to convey that sakuna was the stronger between the two. The isolation talk is gojo though and i did like the talk between gojo and his friend's but personally this chapter isn't jarring in a good way for me.

I remember reading that chapter knowing damn well what was going to happen (I got into JJK over a month after Gojo's death, but one of my friends was deep in the trenches) and it felt painful. I was crying my eyes out at 1am reading a chapter whose ending I had seen on Twitter a million times!! And after a good sleep and many thoughts, I think it's okay that Gojo died. Necessary, even, for both the overarching narrative and Gojo's own narrative. I don't subscribe to the idea that Gojo WANTED to die as other people do, but I think it was a relief to him when he found himself in that airport, with his best friend Suguru + Haibara, Nanami and Riko. And I think he needed to die for the narrative to work, because if Gojo won, what was the point? He is a mentor, and his students must take on the challenge that took down their mentor now. It's good storytelling to me. I do agree we could've used an extra page easing everyone into 236 from 235 lol. Also that one panel of him pouting at Nanami's words has been living in my head rent free since I read it, and you finally made me realise why exactly I'm so obsessed with it. He's upset, but he can't really say anything, for that was how he lived his life. As someone that LOOOOVES this guy to bits, I don't think he'll be coming back, nor do I want him back. I respect the people on copium creating theories because I'm like that about Nobara (I MISS THE BEST GIRL SO MUCH...) but I don't want it to happen, personally. Let the guy rest, he's in a better place now where he isn't lonely because of his monstrous strength, fully human now. Very nice thing to listen to!!

I think character deaths are controversial in fiction no matter how they happen. This might be me projecting my own emotions, but I think that a lot of the criticism of this chapter comes from people being genuinely upset that a beloved character died. They feel unsatisfied with the bittersweet emotion, so they blame the writing. I feel like for a character as popular and loved as Satoru Gojo, no death would truly be satisfying enough for some people. I think that if Gojo stays dead, it's a beautiful and tragic end to his character. Despite this, I think he's going to come back to life, and then people are going to complain about that too. This death makes me feel like the ending of the Hunter x Hunter 2011 anime when Gon and Killua parted ways. As an ending it's beautiful and sad/bittersweet, and it leaves me wanting more. But I think that emotion has fulfillment in its own way.

I just want to say that the interpretation of gojo by nanamin has truth to it but not the full picture. Some examples off the top of my head 1. The first time gojo meets yuji he tells him to into sukuna without knowing if he can turn back 2. Feral gojo in shibuya. he's cracking smiles from excitement whilst masses of people have been slaughtered 3.The death of riko, he literally didn't care and was in a state of euphoria/ecstasy This does not mean hes a meathead, this is how being a god in the jujutsu world would act and when haibara knew him this is how he was. Geto turning evil made gojo want to change even if that part of will always remain which is why he does not deny its partly true. Nanamin, someone who believes kids should be protected from horrors and has always been critical of gojo, calls gojo out on this He’s not a moral saint and he's not a megalomaniac, he can both have affection for his students AND have a degree of separation from the rest of the world his powers CLEARLY provide (His ct is symbolism for this, nothing can touch him but neither can he. his domain quote when you have everything you can do nothing) "Are you the strongest because you're Gojou Satoru? Or are you Gojou Satoru because you're the strongest?” In the end Sukuna acknowledged not the "strongest" but satoru gojo. People who loved him cos he was the "strongest" got unsatisfying conclusion to his character but the people who love satoru gojo got beautiful conclusion to one best op characters done right in shounen gege is a fucking genius and i have so much respect for him making this decision even though alot of people wont like it I think a way to quell the whiplashy-ness from 235 to 236 is just add like a double page spread of gojo and sukuna... just looking at each other...with a hint of subtle acknowledgement from both and then straight into start of 236

I agree with your overall view of Satoru embodying aspects of what Nanami accused him for while also being a kind-hearted individual; however, I feel it's worth addressing some of the points you made and hopefully elaborate on them with some extra nuance. 1. The first time gojo meets yuji he tells him to turn into sukuna without knowing if he can turn back: Satoru doesn't know 100% if Yuji can flip back and forth between Sukuna, but he DOES have an idea Yuji is capable of it. When he asks Yuji to make the switch, it's less about serving his ego trip (even though he finds the confrontation between him and Sukuna enticing) and way way way more about assessing the situation to determine whether he can make an argument for why Yuji should not be executed. 2. Feral gojo in shibuya. he's cracking smiles from excitement whilst masses of people have been slaughtered: He's definitely relishing in his ability to clown on Jogo and Hanami, but I don't think that comes at the expense of him neglecting the deaths of innocents. Satoru enjoys the idea of making Jogo and Hanami realize how weak they are, paralleling the way he would behave back in his younger days, but he very much still regards and is aware of the lives that have been lost; part of what's making him relish the fight (beyond his most basic thrill-seeking nature) is that he's pissed at the current circumstances bringing this about to begin with 3.The death of riko, he literally didn't care and was in a state of euphoria/ecstasy- He did care though; he only said that in the moment, he was incapable of grieving her due to all the sensory information placing him into such a state of ecstasy. The moment the high ended, he's hit with the intense grief of Riko's passing. That's not the same as not caring when the passing happened; that's just Satoru acknowledging that he's incapable of feeling anything else at the moment in his altered state of mind. If his consciousness was not being altered, he most certainly would have cared as demonstrated by his emotional state after killing Toji.

Say what you want, but either Gojo is a psychopath with a split personality or he cares for his students. You can't both praise and respect Sukuna AND love Yuji & Megumi. They are not compatible. The fact that he felt sorry for Sukuna is even worse. No remorse for Megumi or Yuji? No praise saying he knows they will beat Sukuna. Just praise and sympathy for the murderous torture killer lol. Say what you want, this ruins his character. At the very least, it does not make him better than he was prior to the end of this fight. 🎉

My main issue was with how the offscreen was executed. Basically the whiplash thing like you said. It kinda messed up the pacing of transition from one chapter to the next. My problem with the chapters is three fold. First, for me it lacks all narrative tension because I already know what's going to happen. For as good as JJK is at being unpredictable, it is still a shonen battle anime. Yuji HAS to be the one to fight the big bad as protag kun. He's gotta earn the final dub so Gojo is not allowed to kill sukuna. Killing the mentor is a classic move for pretty much all story telling, so this is pretty heavily telegraphed from my perspective. The fight itself I think is actually a bit of a mess. We spent so much time establishing what the cursed energy system can do, only to have both characters basically just play with hacks and do whatever the fuck they feel like with the system. It begins to feel to me like it's two kids on a playground going "WELL NOW I HAVE THE BIGGEST AND STRONGEST NUMBER" 3rd, I REALLY feel like we needed more time with Gojo before this fight. Gojo is supposed to be this hyper important figure that tips the very scale of power in the JJK world. The implications to me were that Gojo was the byproduct of a 1 in a million combo of the eyes and limitless technique creating a uniquely powerful person.... and then sukuna shows up and actually Gojo was just a big fish in a small pond, and it turns out multiple other people could just BE on his level with enough time to develop. It cheapens the previous build up of hidden inventory, dude quotes the buddah, declaring himself the honored one in heaven and earth, but in hindsight, that shits totally unearned now. That's just my thoughts tho.

Gojo wanted to put Sukuna in a situation where hes shown everything he can do and push him to a point where Sukuna would pro have to awaken "I wouldn't of beat Sukuna even if he didn't have 10S" Thats not true whatsoever, Sukuna was on the rope multiple time and was avoiding a hollow purple even after Mahoraga adapted Sukuna's technique. @@MohamedRamadan-qi4hlI think we can assume the reason Sukuna was able to learn from Mahoraga is because he’s actively using ten shadows, not just watching. Not only that, but Sukuna’s use of jujutsu is the best in the series, him being able to figure out Mahoraga’s adaptation through watching wouldn’t be a stretch, considering he has thousands of years of knowledge, and inhabiting the body of the techniques user likely helps. The explanation still makes sense, we were given everything we needed to understand it. To give some further evidence, we can look back at Sukuna’s fight with Mahoraga in Shibuya. In this fight, Mahoraga adapts to slash and cleave, and Sukuna is immediately able to understand exactly what Mahoraga did to adapt (that being Mahoraga seeing Sukuna’s technique and deflecting it). Sukuna was observing Mahoraga and Gojo the entire fight, keeping a close eye on Mahoraga’s adaptation. Considering Sukuna’s understanding of Jujutsu, and his understanding Mahoraga’s technique, him being able to understand through keen observation is something anyone of both his and Gojo’s skill could do. There’s one more thing that is a bit difficult to answer for me, that being how Sukuna was able to apply Mahoraga’s adaptation to slash and cleave. I don’t fully understand how Sukuna’s techniques work (I don’t think anyone besides Gege does rn) but I’d we are to go off of his domain expansion, we can assume he selects a target that the technique hones in on and attacks. The adaptation specifically widened the range of the target from Gojo, to infinity, to the world, allowing for a means to pass through by attacking the technique. This part could be argued against, though, but for now it’s all we have. Jujutsu is not a concrete science, so we cannot say what Sukuna did is completely possible, what matters is that the explanation we were given makes sense in the context of the world we were given. The only bad thing here we were given was the mediocre presentation, which wasn’t even that bad. It could have been better shown, but to say it’s asspull isn’t right, and I’d even say disingenuous

I personally interpreted this chapter and the scene that Gojo dreamed as confirmation that he really just always wanted everything to go back to how it was. To before his enlightenment, before Haibara died and before Getou left. Everything changed for Getou back then, but it also did for Gojo and I'm so glad we got to see that. I do wonder if the conversation with Nanami hinted at a possible revival for him. Staying the same or changing, accepting his death or living. It was such a good scene no matter what happens in the future chapters, it was fantastic writing. I was expecting to feel sad at his death, but that scene was just fantastic and I immediately understood what had happened before we got the panel of his death. It's just amazing

About the whole "is he really dead tho" thing: I honestly think that the "going north" for Satoru would be finally letting go of/moving on from his past. The fact that the whole conversation happens with the past versions of his comrades (and of himself!!) and the whole ~farewell vibe~ at the end really sets it for me. In so many ways, time has completely stopped for Gojo Satoru 10 years ago. The events of Hidden Inventory haunt (or curse, if you may hihihi) him and weight heavily on the way he connects (and doesn't) with people, on his world views, sense of morality and solitude - it was simultaneously the moment of his death /and/ birth; it's so deeply rooted on and converses so well with the themes around the character and his trajectory. So much of this current version of himself is shaped by these events and end up responsible for how unsatisfied he is, for how insatiable is his hunger. For him to become someone new, to go north, to leave this world with his biggest expressed regret being the fear that Sukuna wasn't able to connect and learn about love the way he did, Satoru had to properly process and move on from his youth. I think it's only fitting his last moments were entirely dedicated to it. This, with everything else pointed out in the video, makes it such a beautiful, meaningful ending for such a beautiful, fascinating character. Having the Hidden Inventory arc beautifully adapted so close to it in time makes it even more enjoyable. I found this explanation for Sukuna's technique on Reddit: A lot of people don't seem to get how Sukuna was able to get past Gojo's Infinity in the latest chapter, I was initially one of them, but more recent translations have enabled me to gain a better understanding. So I'll explain it in simpler terms for you all: In essence, Sukuna created an *Extension Technique* that allowed him to bypass Gojo's inviolability. Extension Techniques are abilities developed through training to maximize the applications of Innate Techniques (i.e. Resonance, Supernova, etc.). Sukuna was able to do this by imitating Mahoraga, since as we learned in this chapter, Mahoraga's adaptations can be both defensive and offensive in nature. Sukuna couldn't change the sum and substance of his cursed energy to nullify the Infinity like Mahoraga (which is why he used Domain Amplification to do so) but found he could mimic Mahoraga when it altered its method of attack. Mahoraga broadened its target from just Gojo to the world itself, enhancing its efficacity so that everything within reach of the Sword of Extermination's swing would be severed without exception. This served as the basis for the killing blow Sukuna dealt against Gojo in this chapter, what makes this so impressive is that Sukuna was able to do this on the fly, with no practice, only after having witnessed it just once before. We've actually seen something similar earlier on in the series when Nanami fought Mahito, and utilized the Collapse technique, which targets the surrounding environment rather than a singular person or object. Sukuna basically did the same thing, of course, he did this on a more "conceptual" level than merely a "physical" one. Tl;dr Sukuna imbued his Innate Technique with a Sure-Hit factor like in a Domain. I hope I was able to clear things up for some of you.

I feel like the exposition at the start of the chapter conflicts with everything we have been shown in the story so far. Sakuna was not going all out and still may not of won without 10 shadows: Sakuna went unconscious multiple times, lost the domain battle, eyes started bleeding, relied heavily on 10 shadows to win and then states that his attack was almost impossible to pull off. Nothing in those last 10 or so chapter made it feel like this was an uphill battle for Gojo and through every exchange shown, he appeared to be incrementally winning. Lonely at the top: Gojo never saw himself as the unsurpassable pinnacle of strength and was constantly talking about how one day his student will surpass him. This just felt very forced and sudden. All of his friends thinking he was doing all this just for fun: Guy wanted to reform the current system as he believed it was corrupt and was very vocal about it. Always talked about his students and how much he cared for them. Almost murdered a group of cultists over RIka's death. Taking Megumi from the Zenin clan. On the fly made a .1 second domain to ensure civilians would not have permanent damage when exposed to it. For them to think that he never cared about protecting people just makes them look really dumb.

I agree with pretty much all of that. Overall this whole post shibuya arcs have not been the best. From the zenin massacre being sloppily handled, makis 2 chapter training arc where samurai guy and wrestler appear and disappear out of nowhere. To the culling games just being all fights with barely any substance with the exception of yuji vs higuruma. Then the time skip that gave us no cooldown or substance, so it was hard to even connect with gojo or his state of mind

The fight itself is a mess. Being the “strongests” shouldn’t come at the expense of breaking previously established rules. It felt like gege was just coming up with whatever is contrived and made him sound smart so people don’t question it. Not to mention sukunas last attack, the explanation and how it came to be is so contrived. Also if sukuna cut space itself shouldn’t that have the exact same effect has blue? Even for a split second. The battle of the strongest to me personally lacked any value like why were they fighting in the first place? What’s the ideological clash? Something more personal to sukuna or gojo. When I think of battles between two of the strongest character in an anime j think of something like meruem vs netero, it was more than just a simple fight.

Sukuna wasn't going all out, that's just a fact. He was fighting with a handicap, which is what gave Gojo the biggest chance to win. This doesn't mean that Sukuna wasn't getting his ass kicked, it just means that the fight would have gone differently if he hadn't been focusing on Mahoraga.

I think that the chapter is supposed to show gojos and sukunas POV gojo died in an instant he literally did not know what hit him(also why it is oftscreen) (also gege prob does not want to show sukunas ability yet), so of course he would think that sukuna is stronger since ne was basically teleported to heaven ne also probably tink that sukuna did not use all of nis abilities then also the attack that hit him was after all of the ten shadows were gone which is why he probably thinks that was just SuKunas own technique 2." this cripples the power sealing between Gojo Also, from the past few chapters, we seen Gojo tanked multiple Sukuna slashes within his domain to replenish his CT. What is so different about this slash that bypasses infinity, that its output seems to be 10 or 100 times stronger than Sukuna an other slashes this is my only fault from the chapter, though it seems like the attack sukuna used negates durability, though if this is true that attack is literally too op for the series. The only explanation I could think about is when he said "it was almost impossahle to produce the attack" which makes it seem like this attack could not easily be replicated multiple times. "The flashback apart from serving O purpose, desecrated Sukuna and Gojo's image" this was my favorite part of the chapter first, sukuna was never worried and smiled throughout the fight and was only scared when gojo was getting close to use a hollow purple because that was the only ability that could kill him though right after he survived (but damaged) he had a smile on his face. It shows that he was really just trying to find how to break through infinite and was never worried about anything except gojos hollow purples gojo not being sure that he could win is because he was instantly killed and had no idea what happened which is why he makes the "blugh sound when he awakes in the after life because he did not know what hannened for gojo trying to reach sukuna is because gojo had the burden of being the strongest his entire life so he prob know was sukuna TeEls like gojo took many Ls not because of hIs strength but just not making the best decisIons not killing get at tirst, not destrovina getos bodies after killing geto. and geto sealed based of his emotions) but for once he did everthing that he could have and still lost and losing would not because of his actions but him just being weaker also by losing because he is weaker it answers the question geto asked in hidden inventory, gojo was not disapointed of himself losing the title of the strongest, but instead fine with it proving that satrou gojos identity is not just being the strongest "gojo doesn't contribute anything" It has been stated alot duirng the manga that all jujust Sorcerers die with regret and being gojo is ironic because gojo died with mav regrets "Mahoraga didn't really achieve anything" Sukuna did not care about Mahooraga since he wanted to learn how to kill gojo, which is why the quote your my shadow show me what you have is important because he could not adapt to a phenomina like Mahooraga and Mahooraga on its own is too weak to beat gojo, which is why he wanted Mahooraga to show him something new that he could actually copy which is why he said "Lovely" after Mahooraga slashed gojo also it was never revealed what Mahooragas ability was until now, up until then it was just deductions from people who could not use the ten shadows. ( until of course now because sukuna has the ten shadows abilitv Anyway I hope that helps clear up some of your problems, I was mad at first reading this chapter but after re- reading this and other past chapters I really liked it!

Gojo seems like he's considering Sukuna's mastery over Jujutsu as a whole, which was what ultimately allowed him to win, even if 10 shadows just happened to be the the tool used to do so. Since we don't know what Sukuna's other abilities are, or how he could use and develop them throughout the fight, how can we outright deny Gojo's statements? They both used a clutch move, and Sukuna's was just superior. The match was close; it wasn't a landslide for either one of them. That's the thing about Nanami and Haibara thinking that way. They don't know who Gojo really is (mostly because of his status as the strongest), so of course their perspective of him would be skewed compared to us, who have seen more of Gojo's actions for us to find something not 100% true regarding their statements.

I completely respect and agree with all of your perspectives on Gojo's character on a thematic level, but I have to say, I disagree with you on the basis of the cut not being too egregious, and the fight being off screened, and I also have an issue with a specific line in the chapter. JJK is still a battle shounen, and this was the most important fight within the series. It's been presented as such since chapter 3. On a fight mechanics level/if you're someone who cares about the fights just as much as you care about narrative, this was incredibly unsatisfying. Gojo was Beating Sukuna within an inch of his life for 3 months of real time straight, with sukuna of course having his moments in the fight. To have Gojo say, even if there are layers to the statement, "I couldn't have beat him even without megumis body" essentially devalues a lot of the tension of this being an even back and forth. On top of that, we were robbed of a satisfying climax of the fight. It's very reminiscent of kenjaku and Yuki's fight, where the villain is getting absolutely stomped and is fearing for their life, and then comes out of a life ending attack as a smarmy asshole saying "good job on ALMOST killing me lmao" Tldr, the narrative of the end of the fight was well done, but as a battle in a battle shounen, unless we get another chapter, this completely robbed us of a satisfying ending to the fight on an execution level.

gotta be honest, i'd rather read a battle shonen that cares more about character and narrative than one that's like, 90% just complex fight mechanics being resolved on-screen. if anything that kind of thing is a problem that's being sidestepped, especially considering we still do understand pretty much everything that happened in the fight and why, including what happened off-screen in that moment. it's so weird to talk about the fight like a page or two's worth of images not being shown at the end of a bunch of chapters of epic combat makes the whole thing bad or pointless lol

My only complaint really now that we ve had time to let it sink in and got the full chapter translation is the fact that Gojo making his declaration of caring about his students, changing the JJK world and saying he was going to win was complete BS. Gege completely decimated Gojos character by showing in his last moments he didnt care about his students or saving Megumi, him saying he was going to win was false, he already knew he was going to die and chose the same day Geto died. Seriously all he cared about was his BF Geto. Every development that came after Riko Toji and Geto that was build up for him was a complete lie and was reduced in his afterlife dream to being a complete selfish sadistic teenager again. He didnt mature or grow at all. I have no probelm with Gojo dying, that was meant to happen. Of Gojo enjoying his fight and dying fighting with a strong opponent. Of Gojo being surrounded by his friends cut to a panel of Gojo being dead fast and peacefully. The Sukuna glaze was a bit too much though, at the end of the day Sukuna is vile and Gojo should have not only admired his strength but also acknowledge he was bad by taking over megumi. At least now his students mayhaps will be shown to learn from this fight and carry out his will but taht really isnt enough for Gege to redeem Gojo.

this man literally gives his life fighting for all of this stuff and then when it costs him his life you think the fact that he has complicated feelings about this and is able to die at peace having done his best at literally everything he could means his character has been assassinated. "redeem" gojo for what? not being a simple person and not hating himself and dying miserably because he knows goddamn well he fought as hard as he could? for being able to relate to Sukuna about the loneliness of the overwhelmingly strong? redemption is bullshit but if anybody needs it, it's you, which is worse because you're actually a real person. this is not character assassination, the only thing assassinated here is the idea that you jackasses experience empathy lmao

The only part of your argument I disagree with is that I don't think Gojo is in the afterlife right now. I think his life is flashing before his eyes. If there's a peaceful afterlife, there's no way Geto and Toji are a part of it since they are a couple of sick fucks. But I believe everything the characters say to Gojo is Gojo reflecting on his own attitude, things we are meant to understand. In that regard, I never found Nanami's words to be contradictory. Gojo was born to one of the three great clans with the greatest abilities in jujutsu history. He was destined to be a sorcerer. He didn't have a moral calling to it. Does that mean he doesn't value helping people? Of course not. But Gojo is a sorcerer because he is absolutely suited to be the best at it. I think realizing this is somewhat troubling for Gojo because it LOOKS like he's hearing harsh criticism from one of the people he is close to, when in reality, he's simply rediscovering himself on his death bed.

The issue about this chaptr is that there is a chapter missing before it. Like at the end of the previous chapter, they say he won, then next time you see him he's already packed. I think some action was needed to build up to this flashback, like they continue the fight, Gojo dominate then something happen at the end then you put that chapter with the flashback. It's just that it's so sudden because we goes from he win to him cut in half without seeing what Sukuna did, without seeing when he put that slash in space. Aside from that the emotions are feel felt here that was a 10/10 chapter

loved your take on it, I agree with you mostly, but I can't help but feel like his death was a bit too sudden, having multiple chapters of fighting but only half of a chapter spent on his death feels odd to me, and the fact that Gojo was shown dominating Sukuna during most of the fight, then immediatly lost offscreen, while being like you said really shocking, also made it feel cheap to me, it was hard for me to take Gojo seriously when he was saying that he wasn't on the same level as Sukuna, even going so far as to say that he wasn't sure if he could have won even if Sukuna did not have the ten shadows technique, when we have been shown quite the contrary for several chapters in a row. I wish Gege made the fight to be less one sided, because while going from absolute victory to absolute defeat in the blink of an eye shocked and suprised me greatly, it also lessened the impact of Gojo's words and defeat to me, because it's hard to feel like Gojo isn't still the strongest when Sukuna's win was more of a gamble than anything else, it's like Gege is portraying Gojo as someone who was desperatly trying to reach Sukuna's level, but never suceeded, all the while showing him as dominant during the entire battle, just made Gojo's words and actions a bit disconnected in my opinion.

I know Gojo (or at least the 6 eyes) will reincarnate because that's 6 eyes lore but I do feel mixed feelings from the jarring cut of Gojo standing triumphant with being declared the strongest only for the jump ct to him in a purgatory after his death. Nobara is probably gonna be their for the final battle with soul resonance but at this point I think we've already had more chapter without her than with her for being 1 of the main three. I'm mixed because it's both sad and great that the mantle of strongest isn't forced around Gojo anymore and we get to see him as just a person and not through the ever reliable pillar that we can look to and know everything is gonna be okay. Logically I know Gojo dying had to happen for story reasons it's just the suddenness of it along with wondering how anyone is gonna overcome Sukuna and Kenjaku with everything stacked in their favor atm.

I hope this comment section can be an area of discussion because my biggest issue with the outcome of the fight is the fact that sukuna needed the ten shadows for Gojo’s limitless and Gojo was clearly doing damage to Sukuna that made Sukuna a little shaken or unsure of if he’ll survive. I’m not sure why Gojo said that whole “he didn’t even need the ten shadows to beat me” maybe there’s a translation error but it wasn’t like Gojo was so weak he couldn’t do damage to an all out Sukuna My interpretation was if Sukuna went full hog and became his six armed form it would just be a straight up slugfest until Gojo gets overpowered: simple as that because yeah Sukuna really is a monster of a being i understand that and had no inclination that Gojo was going to win both plot wise and story wise. Overall everything else besides those two points about Gojo saying he couldn’t make Sukuna go all out and that he didn’t need the ten shadows when clearly that’s what Sukuna used to kill Gojo is what’s bothering me because I can only see the author doing something similar with other fighters when it seems like they have the upper hand on Sukuna. A whole “it was all part of the plan/you’re all still too weak” and the defeated going “I didn’t even stand a chance even though I nuked 30 percent of his body mass off and stole his tax return I could only see that I wasn’t even close to being the strongest”

Gojo didn't say Sukuna would beat him without the 10 shadows, he said he didn't know if he would win. Which makes sense, as seen during the fight, they were equal when Sukuna wasn't using the 10s. The main problem was Limitless, which gave Gojo a big advantage. Also, when Gojo said that, he was referring to the fight overall, not in that specific moment, bc ofc Gojo was winning at the end and Sukuna needed to evolve to slash him.

Gojo’s love for Geto and his students is what separated him from Sukuna. He wanted to show Sukuna that you can ally yourself with people you care about to break the loneliness that comes from the top. Unfortunately, Sukuna doesn’t care about that, tossing such thoughts aside ages ago. As such, to continue his pure pursuit of power, he uses people and curses to help him refine his techniques. That’s why he waited until Mahoraga showed him a way to beat infinity using methods he already knew, tanking everything Mr. Fraction tossed at him.

They said it relatively early into the fight, if Sukuna finds a way to cut past Infinity Gojo is done for and he figured out how to do just that. Binding vow or fatigue. I think something that annoyed people isn't just Gojo's death but how he was handled before the fight against Sukuna. For years, we had this hope that unsealing Gojo would would give the heroes some chance. His return was epic. I wonder how the story will play out- And he's gone! He's gone. Gojo was brought back, we got a one month in universe time skip just to go immediately to the fight. We've got 15 chapters with Gojo before he was killed. No matter how good or fitting Gojo's death was, I can't defend him being treated like this. Gege treated his most beloved character like a side character. We've got no meaningful interaction with Gojo and the main cast since he was brought back. The fight was awesome but character interactions were lacking. I would also like to add while themes and deeper meaning in a story are important, the power scaling inside a story needs to make at least somewhat sense but in JJK it's so broken at this point, every win for the good guys would feel like an asspull.
@MalkuthSephira

it's his story, though. why is he obligated to write it differently just because the fanbase loves a character? there might be rare exceptions to this but as a writer it is very hard for me to sympathize with the idea that what happens in a piece of art should change simply because a lot of consumers might wish things had gone better for a character. that is a dangerous hole to fall down as a storyteller and it's worse than just telling the story the artist wanted to tell, like, almost always. also i just... don't get why people are surprised that gojo lost. i had literally been expecting Sukuna to kill Gojo someday since all the way back at the beginning of the entire story. the instant Gojo said he'd win, i figured the only reason to have him say that would be if he was going to lose, and i was right
@Empty_Blank
@Empty_Blank 11 месяцев назад
@@MalkuthSephira he isn't obligated to write what the fans want to see but simultaneously fans don't have to like what Gege has written and are allowed to voice their dissatisfaction with it. Everyone expected Gojo to lose. No one expected him to lose like that. Gojo's death just feels hollow. Compared to Junpei's or Nanami's death, it doesn't feel right. Yes, their deaths were tragic and expected but still had meaning. Gojo's death however feels like Gege needed to get rid of him but didn't know how. The execution was terrible and makes Gojo's entire character meaningless. He didn't achieve anything. He didn't even weaken Sukuna all that much and even gave him an upgrade. Who's supposed to realistically beat him at this point? That's the problem because Sukuna is too strong. Gojo didn't even think about his students in his last moments and was more preoccupied with thinking about Sukuna, the guy who wants to kill all his students and bring a massacre to the world. No "he trusts his students and that's why he didn't talk about them" will ever convince me that omitting them was a good idea. Gojo dies without regret while he kept getting Ls and made the situation worse. Great. Well, shouldn't be surprised at this point because Gege seems to really dislike the good guys and didn't give them a single W without them taking a bigger L right afterwards.

I can't fathom how people could possibly like this chapter. Not only was arguably the most beloved character in the series getting the off-screen treatment, he also suddenly goes out of his way to praise Sukuna and pretends like he (Gojo) was outclassed the entire time. Gojo is quite possibly the most arrogant character in recent shounen to the point where he had a god complex for the majority of his life... Gojo is the type of guy who would smile and put out a last insult before dying to someone stronger. Him praising Sukuna in the afterlife felt incredibly forced and more like it was Gege's words instead of Gojo's. I think we've all expected Gojo to die... but like this? The biggest issue now is that Sukuna might be too strong at this point to conclude the series in a way where it makes sense for the heroes to win. What will stop him from using his space altering slashes on the students now and just end the series? Gege really has to prove that he is a competent writer from now on but I fear he has written himself into a corner here.

I'm pretty much convinced that Gojo is dead, and this chapter feels like a perfect conclusion to him. The only regret that he expressed while talking to Geto was not being able to push Sukuna to show him more, and when we see Sukuna later in the chapter the first thig he does is addressing that the attack he did was something hard to accomplish, I think Gege did this not only as a way of explaining to us how Gojo died but also as a way of Sukuna paying respect to Gojo for making him try so much as he says that he will remember him and we see Gojo smiling. So after Gojo hears Sukuna, his worry of not providing the same level of understanding (Love) is gone and he is able to pass away with only hope for his students. Although there are people think that Gojo didn't accomplish anything he was gotten rid of Sukuna domain, mahoraga, made Sukuna consume a lot of energy, the only thing he didn't do was show the rest of Sukuna's abilities and save Megumi (The more chapters pass the less I think he will be capable of coming back), things that Kashimo and the rest of the cast will do. If he killed Sukuna or saved Megumi I feel that it would had taken the agency of the rest of the characters (mainly Yuji and Kashimo), making him take some of Sukuna cards is great as if this fight against Sukuna is concluded by the rest then technically for the first time in a long while Gojo will have fought with the rest in a group effort. The only problem I have is Gojo not telling Megumi before about his father but I could be argued that he was waiting for the right time and Megumi being old enough to understand what happened

I assume this will be explaned at some point in a future chapter, but still. Why not explain it now? And then kill him off. Also the "I had no chance of winning" thing he said in his fever dream just straight up cancels out the entire fight, that we were left to believe was a toe to toe fight. So glad I've stayed out of the discourse and waited out to read JJK chapters in bundles. Binging this from the highs of Gojo "win" (which I trusted Gege to not fulfill), only to cut to Geto's face in the first panel of Ch.236, was narratively cruel. It just slapped you in the face right away that Gojo ain't coming out of this alive. Their conversation hits me so deeply because Geto is Gojo's biggest regret for making Geto feel alone in his powerlessness, while Gojo was alone in his power (limitless is literally a barrier where no one can reach him). That was his reason to start out the mission of recruiting students together so that they could one day surpass him. It's also why Gojo sympathize with Sukuna because they both will always be above and not amongst others as the "strongest". Nanami words reflect that perfectly because part of him is selfish and he knows it, but he's also more than that. The flower analogy beautifully portrayed how he felt his entire life. I love Gege writing style in this chapter because it resembles a visual novel, where a lot of things are left unsaid to be interpreted within and beyond the panels. He often tend to over explain things in the fighting scenes, but he portrayed the emotion scenes very subtly. While I hate how Gege hurt me as a reader repeatedly, most of the characters loss felt impactful. That is rare for a story to make tragedy count so much nowadays. I started this arc expecting Gojo to lose this battle, but win the war and still hold on to that.

⚠️[SPOILERS]⚠️ I could not agree more. I can see where some of the criticism is coming from in that it was really sudden from last chapter's "Gojo won!" to him suddenly being dead, but that's really the only nitpick I have. I didn't need to *see* Sukuna using cleave, but a little setup would have been good. That aside, despite that little nitpick, I don't even know if I'd want it "fixed" because starting the chapter with the afterlife/limbo was so heart stopping. I remember reading it and immediately realizing the implications. I remember my heart sinking and being in complete denial, only for Gege to suddenly cut to Gojo's body in the most heart-dropping manner. It was such a perfect amount of dread and sorrow. I didn't cry, but I remember feeling so empty and jittery and I literally couldn't think of anything else for three days! I think people's misconceptions about Gojo stem from either putting him on a pedestal as a god who can do no wrong (which, ironically, is how society treated him. As an infallible tool to be used) or seeing him as an incompetent, selfish monster. The beauty of Gojo is how human he is. He *is* selfish, but in a very human and understandable way. He wanted to lift his students up to be at his level, both to change the system so no one will have to be alone again and because *he* didn't want to be alone anymore. He was thinking about others and the benefits for others just as much as he was thinking about himself and longing for connection. It's why he understood and sympathized with Sukuna at the end. He understood loneliness that comes with strength. He wanted to help bridge that gap. I don't understand why people think Gojo is any different than how he was normally characterized. He laughed and went "yay, yay!" after killing his best friend. Doesn't mean he never cared, he's always been the type to be a little flippant. Even when he got sealed he said "Ah, whatever! It'll be fine." He believes in those around him. Maybe he isolated himself, especially as we see with Shoko with her, "What do you mean alone? I was here too, asshole." He's a complex character. Both with good and bad traits, but at his core he does try. He does love people, he said he loves everyone, he's just not your typical sap. Nanami's comment is from his P.O.V. Nanami literally compares Gojo to Mahito. Nanami trusts him, but does not respect him. He doesn't typically understand Gojo, so Gojo doesn't argue.
