I ALMOST bought a MUGEN 8th Gen Civic Si!!

Glad you had a real friend to go with you and help you decide. As an 8th gen Civic owner I would have loved to see you get a Mugen SI and all the videos you would have made but glad you didn't make a decision you would regret later.

I bought my mugen si in 2015 and i still have it and its my baby completly stock motor i did do skumk 2 headers and i have skunk 2 mega power exhaust and i have rpf1's and sitting on tein coilovers. And i love this car i get compliments everyday and i only have 70k miles on it and never selling it.

That clutch sound is actually the throw out bearing. I've owned three 8th gens and had to fix that twice.

Christian is right... Definitely with the airbag light on and mismatch wheels.. Something is wrong with the car...It's definitely is going to be hard to find an 8thgen Si that doesn't have rust or clapped out. I have a 2011 8thgen honda civic si the last year they made them and have been looking for another 8thgen Si and its a nightmare! lol I take very good care of my car so no rust.

Good on you for taking someone who knows their stuff around these cars and knew the red flags. It's easy to say that you could have lowballed the seller but we all know that becomes more expensive than its worth when dealing with an unmaintained car, no matter what. Hoping you can get an 8th gen cause I would love to see you do a proper build of one!

My cousin was like 15 min from signing on a 10th gen used SI and he told me to pull up. I did and it was a BIG FAT NO. you can tell that the dealership was SUPER pissed. They were so close to ripping him off. I’m glad I went and I convinced him not to.

PLEASE GET AN 8th GEN!!!! I’ve got 190k miles on mine and it’s perfect probably because it’s a Texas car but I love it! And I’ve had ZERO issues with mine

Me personally....I would've bought it and negotiated on price. Just with the low mileage alone would be a determining factor. $11500 would have been my projected offer....Great review Cam! Christian is right and knows what he's talking about, however I still would've pulled the trigger!

The cmc doesn’t cause the clutch to make that noise, sounds like a dried out broken TO bearing. I agree with your buddy to just get a regular FA5 since the mugen stuff is mainly esthetics. I have a 2011 FA5 with 22k miles but no plans on ever getting rid of it since most of these cars have been driven hard and a lot lol

Throw out bearing not the cmc

I have owned 2 Mugen’s (Original). I rebuilt one basically from the ground up. Spent almost 10k on rebuild. Unfortunately they didn’t number them so the value isn’t what we expect it to be but all in all it’s a collector car and will jump Up as the years go by.

Damn I would 100% be behind you getting a Mugen 8th gen...was always my dream car when I used to have my 8th gen

The big question is: How much rust? Surface rust is ok. Brake parts can be replaced. Loved the ending!

Vtec didn’t sound like it was cracking at all.

The FA5 and FG2s are amazing but i think the Rsx Type s looks even better than the Si’s , maybe you should also look into getting a Type S! just sold mine and I kinda regret selling it, bought a Fk8 to replace it.

I remember this model. Back then, my friend needed to buy a new Honda so we went to a Honda dealership. On the showroom floor was a new Mugen Si. We approached it, opened up the doors and checked it out. Too bad, neither of us could afford it lol

i personally would spend less on a regular 8th gen si, and have it converted to the jdm FD2. everything just looks so much nicer on the fd2, headlights, taillights, front and rear bumpers imo. look forward to seeing your 8th gen si in the future! good luck finding a good one too!

RUST is a NO GO, AGREED!!! General Maintenance is cheap and easy and you can do yourself such as brakes and rotors, not hard, plenty of content videos. My stock 07' Si Sedan (I bought new) 277.5K is 10x better mechanically. Exterior not perfect like that was...That's my daily and 22' Si sits in the garage most of the time. Too much just turning a year old and battery cell dead, replaced under warranty. BE PATIENT. Good things come to those that wait...

the vtec crossover of the 8th gen its amazing. I owned fk8 BB but end up selling it and bought FA5 civic. I luv the vtec sound on the 8th gen.

I had a 2009 Si from new and got rid of it in 2017. Missed it and went to check out a 2008 Si a few months back. Didn’t look bad in photos but when I got there it was a mess. Hail damage, gross interior, etc…

I remember working at a Honda dealer around that time when these were new. It sat on the show room floor for 2 years before it sold because nobody wanted to pay the premium for just a body kit.

I think your buddy talked you out of a fairly rare and beautiful Mugen SI . If anything I would have used the minor things to bring the asking price down. Not sure why your buddy was hating on that car. Things like spark plugs, clutch master cylinder , brakes its a used car over what 14 years old. That K20 motor is worth 6 grand which sounded healthy . I would have negotiated the price down . Your " friend " for whatever reason just didn't want you to have that Mugen SI in that Iconic Blue . Idk if it was out of jealousy. He was talking about the motor being rusty when the K20 is a aluminum block lol . You sold yourself short you are more than capable of handeling your own business he is no expert he sounded ridiculous and he damg sure didn't sound like a friend. You didnt even drive the Car he drove it - crazy bruh.

Only a thousand Mugen SI were made , only 70K ... Guy was asking 14 you could have got it for 12 easy . There was nothing major wrong with that Car. The " exhaust was rusted in areas " LMAO. As far as under the hood the K20 its mostly aluminum. Aluminum does not rust . You said it yourself it pulls good. You could have enjoyed the car got all the minor things issued mostly maintenance. Its not like that Beautiful Mugen needed even minor restoration. Your buddy is NO expert Im sorry thats the truth . When I watch this vid and listen to the things he is clsiming is so bad about the car he sounds ridiculous. The values on the 8th gen Mugen Si are going way up. He just didnt want his friend to have a nicer 8th gen then he has.

With regard to the issues this car has. Master slave cylinder can go at anytime, and with the rust was any rust on the car it’s self or mainly the exhaust as I would imagine all these parts, that are defective will have been replaced with the modifications you intend to do on it 👍😃 It’s a shame the seller wouldn’t drop the price of the car for the necessary alterations that need doing. Can’t wait to see the uploads when you eventually get one buddy 👍😃😃😃

It’s strange that it’s been repainted at 15 years old. Our roads are well salted in the U.K. during the winter and my sister is still driving a mint 2006 beetle with 140,000 miles on the clock with original paint.

You would've had to do so much work just to get the rust corrected. That alone would've been 14k in parts and labor. This is an example of why you go and show up in person.

With a little TLC that car can be brought back... Mugen IMO just going to go up in value. Commoners own 8 gen civics, but the real ones own the exclusive Mugen models.

I can see my lady thru your lady if that makes sense lol that was exactly how my lady was when we were looking for a car for her only that it was a infiniti instead of the jeep, saying all this bull crab I told her they are expensive and gas mileage is not the best I told her a crv is the best option she use to say that's for old ppl long story short she got a 02 crv manul and now that she got her new job she has the old crv and she just bought a 2022 crv touring. Im still trying to convince her to lower it and but some wheels on the 02 crv but no luck lol

Ya man that is a rough deal. Personally I still would love you in an 8th gen but maybe a rougher one around the edges. Not with rust but with maintence maybe. It would be a good excuse for videos fixing it up and making it perfect.
