many years ago you changed my life !! back in 2017 i stumbled in to one of your videos titled "8 Camera HACKS in 90 SECONDS" , and before watching that video I was not sure about becoming a filmmaker. I was actualy in campus studing computer engineering but after watching that video I fall in love with film making and now I own a video production company called "Rob production " , in my country Ethiopia. I have shot alot of music videos and comercial videos for clients . so thank you Peter Mckinnon for being an inspiration for all this years on youtube, and I hope you will do more videos for the years to come

I am olding more and more last few years. This is the year it works. No more distain or unfulfillment for life. I will learn those things I need to learn and join the twenty first century. I will stop saying "that photograph sucks, no one will buy it" and, "this song sucks". Instead will make and upload the stuff I want to make. I will not rely on luck but will make my own. Thanks for sharing the stuff you keep in your heart, not just your head. Oh, we all need technical savvy so please keep sharing that stuff! That isn't what is actualy holding many of us from fulfilment though. Like a heavy stone in your backpack I have always had a measure of defeatism in my kit bag. I don't know where or when I picked it up but that doesn't mater, it's all on me. Anyway, there is a shortage of genuine people creating genuine content so thanks for the inspirational communications, they are meaningful. ttfn, Chris.

Wholly agree with the sentiment, I got robbed 3 times last year when I was in the cusp of having enought budget to start shooting cooking videos. I agree with Peter K, only you can make something happen. I spent 18 months e mailing, filling out applications to venues to display my work. Once I got in to one place other venues seemed for engaging and to date each venue I have exhibited in I have sold prints !

I decided to bet on myself in 2023. To no longer be scared of rejection and to have trust in the photography I make. It paid off. I'm currently having one of my photographs exhibited in two Leica Galleries in Europe. This is not to be boastful, but I hope, like this video, it inspires others to bet on themselves more.

Brother Pete…my brotha from anotha mutha! I appreciate the motivation because it reminds my of my start back in 1994. I’m 52 now working on my 30th year in business here in New Orleans and the grind is more fun than ever. This life gets addictive! I love the marketing, the jobs, the teaching seminars, the rewards of babies I photographed are now brides…the list goes on. What I wanted to accomplish by being a drummer in a band with a hit song, I did with Photography. Still playing drums. Still capturing light with a lens and a box. Still thanking God every morning I wake up I get to do it all again for one more day. 🤘😎🤘

I started this video with some sarcasm about the comment of the "phone numbers" in the field notes book. "But you'll never work your way to my phone number..." and I moved on because I really wanted to see what was next and what ideas were jotted down. I have had a big interest in mountain bike photography for years, so i eventually picked up a camera and just started to show up at the races and events taking photos for myself. I showed up often enough that racers and people who work the event(s) started to recognize me, this has lead to actually getting paid to photograph two annual races and making a ton of friends within the communities. It's just a hobby still, I have no interest in the hustle of making it my living at my age, but sometimes you just have to show up and do it for the fun and learning then let everything else follow in time.

Absolutely great video, and it has landed perfectly at the right time for me. I took on a job over the winter because my architectural photography went seriously quiet during the winter here in South-West France.... I hate this job and miss my photography! I'm planning to stop this job end of next month, and double-down on the work I already used to do with my photography. This video has really set a fire under my ass. Thank you so much. It was only really a year that I was going at it full-time, and things weren't quite moving. However, I did start to build a client base and have the odd requests coming in while I am in this day job. I can't stay at this day job otherwise I will lose what little I have built up. Your video, @PeterMcKinnon, has really made it clear how much work needs to go in, and it has lit the fire in me to give my everything for this passion. Thank you :)

Holy Shit, you spoke right into my soul. Just stuck in a rut. Just started into my fourth year as a freelancer and the taxes just f***ed me bad. Managed it and actually created a great rebranding for my business with a friend, but somehow all the joy i had is gone. I have no motivation at all nothing worked. But this was just what i needed to hear. ITs to easy to see influencers or talented people and think that just happened over night. it didnt. so lets just keep moving.

I submit my soccer articles so many times I remember never got any phone call, one day they called me back saying expect your work tomorrow morning News paper, after that I thought well I made it, my work in the best newspaper of the country at the age of 19 next to biggest names, I’ve heard nothing back. So I submitted more work. If you don’t do it nobody will ask you if you have anything for them. Very similar story Peter. I’m a big fan by the way.

Great way to start the new year! I loved my BlackBerry back in the day. I had one from 2006-2010 and used it until the keys fell off. I remember being annoyed when my company replaced it with an iPhone and I could use the wheel to scroll anymore.

It's worth mentioning that there's little point going viral if you don't have a load of other good work to back it up. When I see a viral video, I click through to look at their other content. If there's nothing there, I'm not going to subscribe, but if there's a channel full of great content that didn't go viral, then I might slowly work my way through and subscribe.
