I'm a 70 yr old from Alberta that's played his share of hockey and drank more than my share of Canadian. I believe in sudden death overtime, 3 day weekends, big fireworks on Canada Day, helping to push a car stuck in the snow, Lord Stanley's Cup, time and a half for overtime, barbecuing in the winter and taking my dog everywhere with me. I am Canadian.

The scene where he grabs the guys jacket and pulls it over his head is a fighting technique used in hockey called "Jerseying" where u haul your opponents jersey over his head like that immobilizing him so you can beat the crap out of him. Nobody knows why there is so much fighting in hockey. we just love it. hahaha

I'll never forget that man on the stage, and his building energy: "It's about, not aboot... A chesterfield is a couch... Canada is the second largest landmass, the first nation of hockey, and the best part of North America!"

"They're not dents, they're goals". In 2009 I bought a 5-year-old house that had been owned by a couple with three teenaged boys. The basement was unfinished, which meant that it had been framed, insulated, and covered with plastic vapour barrier. There was an octagonal section under the kitchen breakfast nook. In that corner alone, the plastic vapour barrier was riddled with holes. I took more than 140 pucks out of the fibreglass insulation before I drywalled the place. Still have them in a wire basket downstairs. And yeah - I am Canadian.

"Joe" in the commercial is an actor from my home town of Truro, here in Nova Scotia, Canada. He went on to become a national radio presenter on CBC radio and now has his own radio show out of Halifax.

Considering a large portion of Canadian culture comes from Britain and specifically Scotland (our first Prime Minister, John A, Macdonald, was from Scotland and Nova Scotia literally means New Scotland) so it's not surprising that you relate as much as you do to Canada! 🇨🇦❤️✌️

Molson also had beer fridges spread out in different cities around the world, that could only be opened with a Canadian Passport....Pretty cool to watch.

I remember seeing the "Joe Canadian" commercial for the first time after a game of curling in Red Deer while having a beer with the opposing team. The entire lounge stopped talking when the ad came on, and loudly roared afterwards. It instantly touched a nerve.

Molson is definitely known for these commercials. They're popular because they're funny of course, but also because they are 100% accurate about Canadians' experiences when dealing with many Americans. The commercials are much more of a social commentary than I think people outside of Canada realize.

I worked at the ad agency that put together the final ad, which was the start of it all. From my memories (I worked on the print side of things): Jack Bensimon, our principal and client service guru found the insight. If you grew up in Canada in the 90's, these commercials were pretty iconic. So much so, that Simu Liu ( Marvel's Shang-Chi) used the original premise as the basis of his main speech when hosting the 2022 Juno Awards (Canadian Music Awards.)

When I was a kid, my parents didn't like us to watch beer commercials, they'd usually mute them. But Joe's rant was loved, honoured, memorized, and frequently repeated in our house. I don't think we Canadians had ever thought about how proud we were of all those things, but we've never forgotten since. 🥰

Those commercials bring back so many memories. Scraping your windshield in Canada is an art form. Gotta make sure your wipers don't freeze overnight. Combination defroster, elbow grease, familiy secrets and the right type of scraper is knowledge passed down from father to son, lol.

I don't play hockey or drink Canadian but I love these commercials and remember most of'em. "My name is Joe and I Am Canadian" is still quoted this many years later. The idea that we Canadians aren't proud of our country is often grossly underestimated because we're generally not loud flag wavers. I think this series is gold because it gives voice to that pride...without being rude or 'Canada F-Ya!'

I first saw the "My name is Joe," commercial while attending a Toronto Maple Leafs game live in the early 2000s when it first aired, and 18,000 fans started cheering so loud. Gave me goosebumps. I think they recently tried re-doing that same commercial with the same guy 20+ years later.

Love the beaver one 'cause he's my cousin. Had no idea he'd done this - was a total surprise the first time I saw it on TV. His name is Cary Shields and he's also a singer/songwriter and had the lead in Rent in Toronto when it first came here 20+ yrs ago. So nice to see this included in the compilation!!

The MY NAME IS JO commercial first played in movie theaters and it got CHEERS. It really became a part of Canadian history and the year that ad got big that actor on Canada Day was flown cross country to do that speech from one side to another. That was about the time Canada in general started thinking sod it time to start blowing our own horn.

I am 35 years old and everyone I know, EVERYONE, knows this commercial. It is at least for me, the most successful commercial ever. It is engraved in my brain. And everytime I watch it I have goosebumps. Joe is fucking awesome.

Molson Brewery was established in Montreal in 1786, the oldest brewery in North America. The Molson family still live in Montreal and own the Montreal Canadiens, the best hockey team ever ( Montrealer here!) The Molson family is originally from England.

The Pet Beaver is one of my favorite commercials of all time. I remember seeing it on TV while attending college in northern Alberta and my drinking buddies and I were all laughing our asses off! 😂

When Team Canada plays Team USA the rivalry is real and taken very seriously. Canadians are glued to their TVs. Back in the day Molson Canadian was a very popular beer. These ads were a part of my childhood! The internet ads they used to do were also amazing. One example was that they would set up a big red refrigerator in the middle of a city and in order to get the fridge open, people needed to say "I Am Canadian" in multiple languages.

Pride in our National identity. Highlighting what makes Canada unique from the US. Celebrating Canadian culture. We all felt this when the Joe ad aired. It still holds up.

As a small immigrant kid, I loved this commercial growing up. It was a unifying chant in school growing up. Felt so proud every time it played. This commercial and the beer fridges really made an impression.

To answer your question, yes, it is normally an every day thing in the winter to scrape your car off in the morning 😅The bonus round question would've included turning your car on 10 minutes before you want to leave and letting it idle to relieve the condensation making it impossible to see through the windshield. Ultra bonus round includes when you begrudgingly layer up to brace the cold winter air, only to get outside and realize your kindly neighbour has already taken the time to clear your car for you. ❤ Canada

Having just found this, I loved it. Yes, I vividly remember ALL those commercials. There really wasn't any others like them at that time. We still talk about the "I am Joe, and I am Canadian!" William Shatner even did his own version to open the Montréal comedy festival one year. It's on youtube too. Worth a watch IMO. But, not being a beer drinker, I have no idea what Molson tastes like, but have been told it's one of the better ones.

That first commercial you showed was filmed in our living room. It took 32 takes before they were satisifed with that laugh. A day to set up, a day of filming and a day to get our space back to original.

I'm Canadian and i mostly or only saw these commercials watching playoff hockey games. i memorized the commercial " when you think of Canadians you might ask yourself, why are we the way we are? the answer is laying underneath us, literally", just for the party bus in New Zealand...it was dope, i happened to be the only Canadian on the bus too. All you Canadians, i represented us well!

The commercial is still one of the most uniting things I have experienced in Canada. It was so popular, “Joe Canadian” even went on tour across the country so people could see him perform the commercial live. Imagine paying to see a live version of the ad. Soon every place had their own version or spin of the ad. My favorite version was, “My name is Buddy! And I am a Newfinlandar!”

Yes - this Ad Campaign was a huge hit in Canada. I’m sure it increased sales of Molson Canadian (mainly in the U.S.). It made us proud to stand on a snow bank and declare “I Am Canadian” for all to hear. It reminded us of many of the things that bring us together at a time when you had a political party in Quebec, the Party Quebecois (1980; 1995) forcing a referendum on Quebec Sovereignty (they lost, both times). The best of the series was the final Ad, where Joe Canadian delivers a great speech on, again, many of the things that unite us and piss us off, collectively, like the idea that Canadians say the word “ about” but it sounds like “a boot”. You might get a variation on “about” in Newfoundland or the Maritime provinces, but it’s not “a boot”. We do say “eh”…a lot…the way someone in the UK (ie: Gordon Ramsey) says “Yes ?” after a sentence, like it’s a question. And Yes..anyone with an NHL connection likes to play it up. NHL players are our “Footballers”, their wives / girlfriends are always a “smoke shop” (as the boys call it), and they tend to build fabulous cottages on beautiful, Canadian Lakes. I’m the Mom of two, grown sons. They both played team hockey til they were in their early teens. It was very good for their physical and social development. As adults they both play in what we refer to as a “beer league” (a group of guys/women who commit to playing X number of games, and who contribute the cash to rent the ice at an indoor rink). Some of the guys they play with, they’ve known since Elementary School. Molsons STILL uses the “I Am Canadian” thing, especially leading up to Canada Day (July 1st) - for instance, if you buy a 24 of their beer, you might get a free “I Am Canadian” T-Shirt in the case, and you will probably see the logo on a cardboard beer coaster at your local. Oh…and about the frost on the windshield…while most Canadian carry a snow brush / scraper combo in their car after October 30th, a Credit card works well, too, but better yet…a remote car starter.

Canadian here and love most of these commercials. A few I don't remember at all. Molson used to do a lot of hockey sponsorship back in the day so the ads were played during hockey. Molson still exists but now under the Coors branding label as they purchased the rights. The last commercial probably was the very best as it brought everyone in the country together, told us to have pride in our country. Thank you for the reminders.

I went to a Vancouver Canucks game (NHL), and the I Am Canadian Joe, was there and he did the bit in the crowd. It was awesome. Also, if no one has mentioned it, Canadian Beer owned/owns the Montreal Canadian NHL team, so hockey is very connected to the Canadian brand. And the fact at a Vancouver Canuck game, we cheered for Joe advertising for the Canadian Beer, associated with an opposition team, well, that's very Canadian.

These were ICONIC! I remember this as a kid and YES it was a huge! They were all incredibly successful commercials in the late 90's to early 00's. That last commercial was the best one! I distinctly remember tearing up a little the first time I heard it. People still reference it. lol It's still, to this day, one of my favourite commercials / ad campaigns. I'm Canadian and I watched this just to see the Ads again ... and I laughed again. Molson Canadian is one of the larger brands and it's everywhere. You go to a party or gathering and it will be there. It's a good beer, can't wait for you to try it. And I agree with all the comments that those ads alone created a lot of patriotism
