Dr. Miata is hilarious. Lots of great info for pre-med students and those looking to try to enter med school after bachelors. It's not for most people, and most people aren't cut out for it, the sacrifices are real and require a good support network.

Future Questions to address: 1) how do premeds & Med students handle how lonely the path can be. -> you can only communicate so much to family/friends. But they genuinely don’t understand the journey you go through as a physician unless they became a physician themselves 2) how to maintain a healthy diet in med school. -> Since you don’t want to use your loans frivolously 3) med school & mental health 4) dating during medical school/residency -> also tips for maintaining a healthy marriage during medical school & residency

Don't insult Dr. Webb like that. LeBron James is a disgrace to the game of basketball. Dr. Webb has worked too hard and accomplished too much to be compared to Leflop James.

Giggling at the 4:44 time. Just starting a job as a phlebotomist and they want me to be there at 5 am. If I continue to do my workouts in the morning and add commute time, I need to get up at 3:30am! #dowhatotherpeoplewont

I don't look where a doctor goes to school or did his fellowship at whenever I go to a particular physician. What matters is if he can listen to my symptoms, address my concerns, identify the problem (s), give the patient an opportunity to be involved in their treatment, correct it without errors (owning up to mistakes made), and have a great bedside manner. Alot of physicians belittle their patients which is a trait among medical professionals that needs to change.

20:54 yeah and this also may have the reverse effect. while the more subspecialized, the more earning oppurtunities may apply, it seems that being super subspecialized in for example a field of rheumetology/pediatrics may not be more compensated. this is becuase though the skill set is subspecialized, they may be too niche and only applicable in certain settings like an academic-research focused practice, where you may be paid less. it's also because your salary may depend on the skilsets you have, so in medicine procedures are best compensated and so with a subset of knowledge, it may not necesarily affect the overall pay depending on the specialty.

I think the one big thing is that many people don't see how medicine is a variation of an entrepreneurial lifestyle - there is some structure with respect to the process of becoming a trained physician, but you have to love what you do and you'll always be changing, adapting, and growing within your respective field along the path you took.

Dr. Webb and Dr. Maita, please come back with more content! I enjoy the wisdom that you both deliver to us as well as the synergy between the two of you. This series has been quite introspective that helps dispel some of the myth and misconceptions of medicine. I'm looking forward to my journey ahead to becoming a doctor.

I did the math and for a surgeon that makes $500,000 / year and works 80hrs/ week. That means he is getting paid $130/Hr. That to me is not good, the amount of work a surgeon puts in, the time away from family, student debt, 15+ years of school all for 130$/Hr...we need to pay surgeons way more.

I am a respiratory therapist and have been working for the past 8 years. I have watched countless people die in front of me. It gets easier to handle but it still affects you mentally no matter how many times you see it. Seeing death on that level is one thing no medical program can ever prepare you for.

STEP 1 won't help anymore in distinguishing people, so going to a better school earlier will ultimately be better, especially if school don't use STEP 2.

Great video, even for non-doctors in terms of happiness, investing vs lambo mentality, etc.. i love the fact that they both selected medicine and money wasn’t the primary driver. But I also hate that doctors aren’t better compensated because this will deter some of our best and brightest. I also hate that there is so many outside forces that doctors have to deal with such as constant malpractice threats… I know doctors who are great at what they do, but after years of practice they are just worn out by the pressures, the physical strain. As a society we need to figure out how to lighten the load, so these great people can focus on their patients.

Just a thought for an episode for next season maybe a q and a would be great to involve the audience plus it would make it a little easier on you and Dr.Maita because you all don't have to think of questions yourself lol. Also just like to thank you for being an inspiration to me, being from Louisiana too its good to see someone achieve great things when at a disadvantage. Regardless of the matter your videos are great I've enjoyed them for over a year now and they have improved astronomically so keep up the work Dr.Webb.

Hey what's up Dr. Webb! Thank you for this video for sure. I appreciate the candidacy from you and Dr. Maita on how you feel about being a physician and becoming a physician. I'm not a doctor but we can all use the same approach to any career we are choosing. I'm pretty much established in my current field but I'm about to pivot to another area of expertise and you have to be sure and approach moves like this with a strategic plan and that's what I think you and Dr. Maita are trying to convey in this video. So I thank you once again and as usual, be well, be safe and Peace & Blessings🙏🏽
