your honestly is admirable. it’s unfortunate that you ever got into a position where you can’t handle all of the animals that you’ve acquired BUT I think admitting when your incapable of giving them the best life they deserve is important. I’ve always had mixed feelings about rehoming but I do understand that unforeseen problems out of our control happen. ✨ Thanks for the explanation! side note your hair is insanely pretty!
I think the best thing about this is that your animals haven’t been neglected, you just want more for them. That’s a beautiful and hard choice to make.
My fiancé wasn’t upgrading his enclosures from 12 12 18 to 18 18 24, drove me nuts lol. So I’m doing it for him because I love those little guys. You’ll have LOADS of fun decorating the 18 18 24s they are so spacious.
Jessicas Animal Friends It says everywhere that a 12x12x18 is adequate, but I feel sooo bad!!! They are so active at night and they have no space to move around and hunt the way they’d like to! It’s killing me! I can’t wait to see your upgrades too! 💕
I don’t think I could ever be a RU-vidr because I would not apologize for doing something in my personal life that a whole bunch of strangers didn’t approve of. I think it’s sad that she is nervous to tell people she’s rehoming a few of her pets because people will attack her online. You do you girl.
This was much needed video in the pet community. I support your decision completely because I know what it's like having to rehome an animal. It's important to keep in mind what will be best for pets and sometimes that means finding a home that can provide them with the love, care, and attention they deserve. I hope people will watch this and not be so quick to judge people for rehoming.
Your honesty and that you are looking to improve each animals care is the reason I'm subscribed. Can't wait to see how everyones habitat is upgraded in the future. And after all the existing animals have optimized habitats then you can set up a new bioactive enclosure before getting another pet so you know that they will already have everything they need ahead of time and it will also give the soil, plants, and clean up crew time to acclimate. I would still quarantine in a tub to make sure nothing bad gets into the bioactive tho. The important thing is to move forward and not make the same mistake again
forlornqueen Thank you so much for your support! I’m excited to upgrade as well! I’m just curious, how long do you wait before introducing your animals to the bioactive enclosure? What kind of bad things can grow in it?
@@reptiliangarden lol sorry I'm just really paranoid about mites or other parasites because they are so difficult to get rid of and if an animal is sick or dies I don't know enough about whatever microbes cause disease to feel comfortable that it wont somehow spread. That's why I personally would rather not take a chance. You may not be as paranoid as me though and thats is cool too. But for the plants and stuff I think they could use at least a couple of weeks to establish but again it really depends how much they are going to be disturbed. I think your on the right track and should do what works best for you based on your intuition
I can respect your decisions. I understand fully. I have a ton of animals who could use upgrades but I am lacking space. (so I am buying a bigger home) I know thats not always an option though for everyone.
@@reptiliangarden Thank you, It will be a challenge as I have 7 fully aquatic species lol. I apreciate your care for the animals well being before you worry about yourself its truly great (even though you should really care for yourself and I am sure you do)
I think thats a pretty great idea. I am proud of you for deciding to give all your animals the same level of care as that GTP. However just know that these updates dont have to happen all right away. I know financially that would be hard. One enclosure at a time. and you dont have to feel bad if your working towards getting them to that standard you want them to be at. As long as you know that's your goal and your are working towards it. I wish I could adopt one of your geckos!
Taevian's World of Reptiles! Thank you so much! It’s definitely going to be a process! It’s going to take a lot of time, but I’m hoping that by the end of this year I’ll be mostly there 😅
Breeding fish I get overwhelmed from time to time. I can only sell so many. I get 100s so I have to donate to clubs and local pet stores to make my life and the fish's better. I understand. It's tough because of attachments to them bit it's for the best for all involved.❤❤
I am amazed by your honesty, you're actually my favorite tuber. I think it's fantastic you want to upgrade and know your limits. All of my animals are in bioactive enclosures and I love it. But if I couldn't provide bio to an animal I wanted I just wouldn't get the animal so I understand how you feel. Don't entertain any negative comments. It's your decision, do what you feel is best. Personally I'm proud of you. 👍😍💜👏A👌
People may disagree, but a reptile is very different than say a dog that forms attachments. At the end of the day a reptile won’t “miss” you, as long as it’s new home meets its needs.
You're doing what's best for the animals and your health. You're not giving them away at random for free. You're making sure they'll be cared for how they deserve. And you're doing all of this in front of an audience of the internet. Quality over quantity is highly commendable if you ask me :) I know this won't be easy on you and I'm sorry about that! Good luck with all of this and on your future upgrades. I wish you all the best 💖
You're an incredible pet mother & I can tell you really care & give animals the best life possible. I once had to rehome a rabbit because he wasnt happy in my home & I tried everything. I found a lovely family who had a couple other rabbits & they took him in. It was really difficult, but you gotta do what's in the best interest of the animals! Do whatever you think is best!
I understand. You are very reasonable. I'm so glad you feel better. As well as wanting them to have bigger homes, you want them cared for if you relapse.
I love how open and honest you are with us! Rehoming animals is always a very touchy subject and I can definitely understand how sometimes it’s the best thing for them. I adopted my bearded dragon from a rehoming situation and he was very well taken care of and she interviewed me in depth to make sure I knew what I was doing and could provide the proper care for him. I knew she really loved him but her mother had gotten really sick and all of her time was dedicated to taking care of her and she felt she wasn’t giving him the attention he deserved. It was definitely very emotional when I went to pick him up and we both cried 💔
SoapMonkeeyy That is the most endearing thing I’ve heard all week. I’m so happy you were able to provide such a great home for that beardie. Thank you so much for understanding and supporting me in this decision. 💕
It’s sad you have to explain yourself (though I totally understand that viewers would have questions)...but I think you’ve done such a great job tackling these “controversial” topics lately. Your honesty and transparency are great traits. Also, sorry to hear that you’d been feeling so bad :(
If it’s the best decision I don’t think rehomings a bad idea. I had a female bunny in my old house I rehomed without her cage so her next owner would get her the bigger cage she needed/ deserved. We’re always looking for the best for our babies
Gabby Polk That’s exactly what I did with my babes too. I think it’s the best decision even though it’s so hard on us. Props to you for putting your animals first. 💕
Just found your channel and I had to sub ..💕 I'm a bp and boa snake mom and I know the feeling of wanting the best for your animals, you're doing the right thing 💖
You are being very brave about this topic. I think you are doing the most loving, selfless thing to better the lives of both yourself & your babies. Being sick, dealing with chronic conditions is so hard! I understand completely (spinal fusion in my case). Dont let anyone down you or be hateful, you are doing a great thing. Much love from our family to yours 💚🐍💚
You have a new subscriber because of your honesty. The realities of pet ownership aren't always black-and-white and ignoring the hard issues doesn't help anyone.
its so hard to rehome reptiles (or any animal). You form a bond and become attached but im glad you found suitable homes and the reptiles will be getting upgrades! i know its not easy to make this decision but congrats for realizing and not ignoring it when you know you have too much on your plate or not enough space. Most owners realize they cant provide suitable homes but ignore and let their animals stay in their conditions. I know it was not easy but it was a very mature owner decision. SO excited to see what you have in store for you other reptiles! btw LOVE your channel, one of the best reptile channels imo
Dude is good company for hard topics. You have my support, as you know. Wanting to do better for all of the animals, those you’re keeping and those you are rehoming, is a good thing. Keeping them when they could have a better life is selfish, so I think rehoming animals is a good thing. ❤️
So proud of you for making this decision! This proves how much you love your animals, Tricia! I’m so glad you are thinking about how to give them their best life and upgrade them so that they feel more comfortable. It will be a long and hard process, but it will be worth it🙃 I’m sure that the three geckos that you are rehoming will love their new home and they will always remember you. Lots of love❤️❤️
You're welcome the only RU-vidrs I watch consistently and the only pet RU-vidr I can stand really but I completely understand being too sick to care for your animals sometimes. I'm extremely ill myself
I completely respect your decision, and cannot imagine how hard that is going to be for you. I certainly understand your concerns about your health. I have RA and several other serious illnesses. I know how hard it can be to evaluate if you can truly provide what they need. My prayers will be with you.
Also I'm so sorry you have been so ill people don't know what goes on in your life so they should not judge. I've been bed ridden for nearly 2 years with a chronic debilitating illness and if it wasn't for my husband I too would have had to rehome some of the animals I really love. So I totally get where your coming from. But I can tell you now I'm in bed when I watch your videos and they really bring alot of joy to my life I truly look forward to your next video sharing your animals and knowledge to someone stuck in bed is truly a gift. So thank you so much. Also quality not quantity is what makes the best not only for the videos but benefits the animals too. Please please don't let anyone's harsh comments get you down your not an animal horder and never will be. There are ones with so much more animals than you making videos for all the wrong reasons. Also love your interview videos they are really good. Take care paula England
The royal giant GAMER Thank you so much for your support. I’m so sorry that you’re so sick, it means so much to me that my videos can bring you some happiness. 💕💕💕
No worries. I completely understand your reasoning for re homing. Take it easy though, you don't need to rush and upgrade everyone by the end of this year. 🐍💕🦎
Tricia, sweetheart - I’m so sorry. What you are doing is responsible and in the interest of the animals. I remember when I did it with my boa. I just couldn’t work with him. In the end, he lived for years happily. I still ache for your loss. Once again you show why I follow Reptilian Garden.
You know your babies best, and I'm sure you're doing the right thing for them. If you hadn't already found them homes I would've offered to take one. I hope they're with friends who will update you frequently and allow you to visit them! I'm thinking about getting a crested gecko this summer at the San Diego Reptile Super Show, and if I do, I will definitely get an 18x18x24. I literally have JUST ENOUGH room on my reptile rack for that size. ;)
I totally agree with your argument. If your life changes and your not able to give some of your animals the proper care, the smart thing to do is to give them to someone that can. That's what I don't understand about some pet youtubers. They expect you to do it all and be perfect. Sometimes that's not the reality. This also really resonated with me because I have some reptiles I feel I need to re-home because sometimes it just becomes too much and I'm not always able to give them the proper care. I do have a opportunity to move and have it be a bit less crazy, but even so I'm still doing so much more and I don't want there to be those moments where I cant give them as much care as I want. I love all of them so much and I think this is such a touchy subject because for someone who reAlly loves their animals it's not an easy thing to do.
Gonzo bean Absolutely. It is such a hard decision. Even looking at them now I want to break down knowing they won’t be with me anymore. But you just have to focus on the positive and know that once they’re rehomed they’re going to be having a better life. 💕
I fell extremely ill and had to rehome some of my pets because I knew they would be better cared for in somebody else's hands. I admire you so much for your honesty I always have, and I can relate so much. We put the care of our animals first always even if that means that they are better off rehomed. And that shouldn't be frowned apon. A touchy subject that was approached extremely well ❤️❤️
Exotics with Steph Thank you so much for your support. I am proud of you for doing the same, I know it can be so hard to let go of an animal you love so much. I hope that your health has improved and you’re feeling okay, love. 💕
i have had to re home animals many times in my life and every time it has been the hardest thing for me to do and i want you to know i think you are doing the best thing for them
I think it’s responsible to rehome in any situation. Just like you said, if they’re neglecting the animal and realize to get the animal out of that situation, or if they aren’t happy with the care they’re providing. I assume you got new homes close to you, which is great! Even better if they’re your friends. I’ve fostered a lot of cats and dogs and they always say they will update and they never do, I resort to Facebook stalking when I can. You’re very brave. Everyone watching your every move would stress me out! There’s a few people I wish would rehome their animals but they refuse. You were definitely not one of them! I think you’re an excellent animal mom.
This just makes me love you even more because you have always had your animals and just decided to make your channel to share your love passion and knowledge not like some who just get the animals to make videos to get views ratings and popularity on you tube. Your love and passion clearly shows you even do interviews with others sharing their live and passion for reptiles too. Your animals are your life and it shows. You clearly care so much because you have a big heart and care what people think. Please though, you don't have to justify yourself to anyone people watch because they love what you do you will never please everyone and if they don't like it they don't have to watch. So please done worry just carry on doing what your doing. Because I tell you, you are a breath of fresh air to the animal community. Love paula England
The royal giant GAMER Paula, you are an angel. Thank you so much. Your words have given me so much love and inspiration. I can’t thank you enough for your support.
You are doing the right thing. I love snakes but realize that I have limits and it does hurt but animals you own are like family. All living things deserve a good life. You are doing the right thing.
Thank you for being honest about this! I know sometimes pet tubers are highly scrutinized and analyzed under a microscope. I get why but I think sometimes people are unfair. I'm a fan of big enclosures myself and am working on quality of enclosures before buying more animals so I'm excited to see this change happen for you. I think more people should take consideration into their enclosures and I think you are leading a good example for others. I'm sure all of your pets will appreciate it, even the ones being rehomed.
Rehoming is such a rough subject. I totally agree with you. Rehoming can look lazy but some people don’t see if from the side that sometimes it is the best for the animals. If you cannot give the proper care for your pets I think it is more irresponsible to keep a pet out of obligation or not wanting to look bad than not giving them the best. And if you can’t I do believe it is better to give them to someone who will. I think it is you giving them the best possible life. Good for you for talking about it openly
There is definitely two sides of the story. Good job being honest, it is sometimes hard to do and you are being brave about it. Knowing when you should re home your animals takes guts. Glad you are feeling better! We are proud of you for making this decision. 💕 I know it might not be the easiest thing to do but just remember you are supported by me and the other Gardeners. 💕 Sending lots of love 💕
I think that your reasons for rehoming some of your animals are valid and come from the heart. I love the fact that you already had homes for those animals too. That really shows that you put careful consideration into where they were going. I adopt all of my pets, I've had several people rehome their animals to me and never look back. It really says something about a person when they want updates on their previous pets. It doesn't surprise me at all to find out that you'll be getting updates on yours. Putting the needs of all of your animals first shouldn't be a reason for ridicule. Take care ☺
Respect! I love you for doing this and putting the welbeing of your animals first! I wish every "pettuber"was as honnest and animal loving as you are! Lots of love from The Netherlands
It's your choice 100% but just upgrading them to bioactive without larger cages would be ok too. I've had to rehome animals in the past for various reasons. If you are ever re homing Bowie... I'd be begging you to think of me. 😉
Been there, done that! But when I was going through a space/financial issue, I actually bought the deep tubs from the really useful boxes. Not only do they hold humidity better, but they are stackable if you do the ventilation on the side. Just an FYI :)
@@reptiliangarden You are very welcome!! :) Honestly you are my favorite reptile youtuber! Being honest and possibly taking unfounded criticism for the betterment of your animals is just the kind of person this community needs right now.
not meaning to sound patronizing but i feel proud of you , this is a very responsible way to go about things and i wish id see it more just give the babies you have lots n lots of love , youll be able to focus on everyone individually better now
I can only imagine how difficult this is for you. You are doing what you truly believe is best for your animals and I commend you for it. I know you are doing what's best for them ❤️
Honestly I admire you so much. I know it can be hard to let some of your pets go, but when it's for their best it's the only option. Sending you lots of love and respect 💟
I completely support your decision and I definitely understand why. I had to do this with two map turtles I rescued from a bad situation they were in before me. The reason I rehomed them was because tank I had them in worked but I knew they’d be a lot happier in a bigger tank so I gave them to a friend who had a big tank for them to live in. I would’ve gotten a bigger tank but I just simply didn’t have the space for it and it would be harder for me to maintain a huge tank. I was never really looking for turtles for this reason but I just ended up with these two as rescues and got attached lol. Sorry I rambled so much lol but basically I get your situation and I do support you!
It always made me sad to see how mean people can be to others that rehome animals, if it’s what is best for the animal then rehoming them is a good thing. It’s better to give them a better life with someone else then keeping them even though you can’t take proper care of them anymore. It doesn’t always mean you’ve been irrisponsable when you got the animal, things change and you can’t always see that coming. In the end you have to do what’s best for the animals and sometimes that’s rehoming them. I’ve seen it happen so often that people keep an animal even though it’s not in the animal’s best interest, they aren’t doing it for the animal but for themselves and that’s just selfish. The animal has to come first. Will you do a video with all the animals you rehome as sort of a goodbye video? Just curious, I understand if that’s to difficult, it’s aleays sad to see an animal you love so muchh go even though you know they are going to good homes.
HappyDragon Meeko Thank you so much for your support and understanding. And honestly I don’t know if I can do that. I’d probably just be crying the whole time. I think it would be too hard on me. Right now I’m just trying so hard to focus on the positive of rehoming them since I’m going to miss them so much.
My niece had a couple of leopard geckos she had to rehome after starting college and wasn't able to care for them like they needed. she also works so had almost no time at all and where she lives its a 70 mile round trip to the nearest pet store for crickets. it's honestly the main reason i own a crested gecko and a blue tongue skink, neither NEED feeder insects. i live in the same town so the 70 mile trip for crickets would suck and here in PA with our winters sometimes isn't possible. i do still get my crested crickets sometimes as treats but isn't something i HAVE to do every week. and lucky for me the skink will eat the freeze dried crickets so i'll sprinkle them on his other food.
abyss610 That can be so difficult. If you ever need an alternative you can also order feeders online at joshsfrogs.com they’ll ship overnight so the bugs are still alive!
I love you your so well spoken. I love how you know there always something more you can do for your animals! I totally agree with why you want to rehome I only believe in rehoming if it benefits the animals! Thank you again for always being so mature and honest! And most of all thank you for putting your animals needs above your! Please keep spreading your knowledge and love for these creatures. Thank your for being awesome!
Understandable, I am getting my MS degree and life is getting crazy busy now, and I think I am not able to take care of lizards and tortoises species, I have about 25 reptiles in my collection. I really need to rehome my animals now...
Lights for planted aquariums work great on terrariums, vivariums, and paludariums...two 18x18s sitting next to each other could share a 36" aquarium light cutting down on cord counts...also a standard shop light fixture with a standard 5000k daylight bulb ( available almost anywhere) will grow plants; if you, like me, are on a budget.
I think rehoming is a positive thing if you pick a right home. Now rehoming because the animal is not fitting in your life style because you didn't do research before you got it then that's what pissess me off. Not the actual act of rehoming but that the person was a complete moron and got way over their head now they are putting it on Craigslist for a crazy rehoming fee or just letting anyone take it with out checking if that person will provide what the lister could not. I love love love that you are rehoming to people that you know are going to provide a good home!!! I can't say it enough i freaking love that! I love that you realized your animals deserve better and that you can provide that with less animals! Good job! Providing them with real plants does not necessarily mean your doing them a disservice. Providing them with space and enrichment fake or not is what's important along with the other necessary things such as lighting and food. Man.... I'm proud! That's awesome you made this decision and decided to talk about despite others beliefs. Looking forward to more growth on this channel and awesome enclosures!
Jesenia Rodriguez Oh my god! Thank you so much for your support! That just made my morning. It really is hard, but I’m looking forward to the future and the higher standard I’ll be holding myself too. 💕💕💕
People just need to chill and stay out of other peoples business. They do not know the whole story and are too quick to judge. Theyll judge you for not doing whats right and then they judge you for what is right. I love your honesty. Anybody that judges you are more than likely just jealous 🙂 We love watching your videos ❤️
I am sorry that you had to do this but i know you have picked good homes for th em. I hope your health improves and yku get to feeling better. Good luck to you.
I’m glad you decided to have a discussion about this topic and tell your viewers about how you are re homing rather than just ignoring it like some other people do. I’m sure the geckos will be super happy in their new homes :)
Have I ever mentioned that we LOVE you!!!! My sweet daughter Sunnie admires you so much. (You should watch her 2 little vids🥰 shes so cute.) She wrote a paper about you for school that her teacher called me to praise her for🤗. Shes a smart girlie just like you.
I rehomed a dog 2 years ago. After 6 months of adopting her, she had no bond with me nor did I with her. She was still a very happy dog and loved people, just literally no connection with me and I was dealing with a lot of medical issues. She was a very adoptable dog and I knew she wouldn’t be in the shelter for long so I brought her back to the one I got her from (it’s an owner surrender only no-kill shelter, I wouldn’t have done it otherwise) and she was very happy to say goodbye to me (actually she didn’t even turn around lol, just kept walking with the employee cuz she was stoked to see someone new). She was adopted within a few hours to a family with a young boy and she’s doing great now. They take her to daycare and was recognized by one of the former daycare workers I took her to. Everyone agreed she’s a much better fit with them and was super bonded to the son. After I was healthier I tried again for a second dog through the same shelter and that’s where I found my Jasper. We connected immediately and he literally just melted so easily into my life with my other dog. Not all shelter dogs are good matches for certain people, especially since most of the time, both ends of the parties don’t know much about the dog. If I was in a different situation where I had to give up a bonded dog, that would be a completely different story but still most people surrender for the sake of their animals. It’s the ones that dump them on the streets that don’t care about them. Rehoming Reptiles is quite different from rehoming a dog though since most reptiles don’t really bond with people. I could surrender my ball pythons and they won’t be heartbroken at all, though I would haha!
Sticky Feets Thanks for sharing your story. I’m glad your dog found a new good home. And yeah, it’s going to be harder for me than them. But they deserve more space 💕
What you’re doing is admirable, it’s not like you put every animal in a 5 gallon and on paper towels... you really tried and gave them appropriate homes. If you ever rehome Mango PLEASE consider me lol. I’ve always wanted an aft 💕 we’re both Illinois too so I can always meet you at Tinley. IG: (@whynikole) keep taking things slow, and keep healing girl I’ll always support you
Nikole Barnes Thank you so much!!! I only rehomed one Crested Gecko, a leopard gecko, and a gargoyle Gecko. I kind of want to get mango a male in the future since I’ll have space. If I ever breed maybe you can have a mango baby 💕
I downsized because of my health as I mentioned in my latest gecko video. It’s allowed me to put more time into all of my animals and I’ve put even more money into them all giving them huge updates. Less is more now and I love it. Also I feel like we’re so alike, it’s odd finding someone who’s sick and that shares a passion of reptiles and RU-vid lol
Kritterswithkelsey I’ve noticed it so much lately that so many reptile keepers have health issues. It sucks, but I love how we’ve all found each other and understand and support one another. 💕
I think you're doing the best thing for your babies making sure they have a better life it's not wrong I myself lost two-thirds of my large intestine I get sick a lot I only own one pet it's my bearded dragon I call buddy he is my best buddy I love him like a son but I had to rehome two of my pets before because of my health and being so sick I had a hard time taking care of my self even had to live with my sister and brother in law so thay took care of me it was very hard but if I could not take care of buddy I would not think at all about giving him to some one who Wil love him as much as I do or more thank you for bringing this up because I think your just making sure the anamal gets the best life it can ever have great video kiddo love it don't fill bad your giving the best thay ever can have in life and I'm just happy thay have some one so caring thanks
And I'm proud of you and know how hard it is to have to part with someone you love so.much my heart goes out to you just remember that Thayer in a great place and living a great life thanks
And hay hats off to Brandon for being there for you and your love for your baby's tell him he's a good man he must love you a lot he is a good man thanks
I think it’s very damaging shaming people who want to rehome their pets. I’m on a rabbit group on Facebook just for little tips and tricks. People often come on and say they’re allergic and want the rabbit to go to people who know what they’re doing and will treat it right. People on the group literally tell them to suffer through not being able to breath lol it’s insane. In the end the people get chased off the group and the rabbit goes up on preloved or Craig’s list to whoever comes first. Not in the animals best interest and I don’t support shaming people when they will already be unbelievably upset and beating themselves up about it.
Jades_ Jungle I can’t even believe that?! That’s so illogical. I hope one day it’ll be more understood and supported. We all just want what’s best for our animals and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that 💕
18x18x24 for geckos 6 months and older is the minimum requirement for owning a gecko. Anything lower than that, they get stressed, their digestion doesn’t work as well, and it shortens their lives by years.
I might have to give up my gecko too. I have to decide if I am going to take a job that requires M-Th travel which would make it impossible to change his food. I dont want to give up my buddy, but it might be the best thing for him, unless i can adopt a new live in GF who wants to feed him.
You're making an incredibly unselfish and wise decision for your animals. I can feel the sadness in your voice but you're being such a good person by doing that. I can't wait to see your eventual upgrades for your other babies. Best of luck
I rehomed my Leopard gecko and am currently looking for a home for my Fat tail gecko. My leopard gecko was my first reptile ever and I love her to bits and miss her everyday. The issue I have is that living in Sweden, insects are expensive and hard to get by because of the small reptile interest in the country and the long and cold winter season. Before I got her, I had no idea crickets died so easily and were so sensitive. (I know dubia are hardier, but I live under my mother's roof still and she doesn't want them in, so I have to respect that. Though I've tried to convince her otherwise many times) There are times when there aren't any insects available. I miss my leo so much, and will miss my fattail as well...but because I love them so much, I want them to live with someone that can offer regular feedings. I don't think rehoming is bad when it comes to reptiles, since reptiles aren't like dogs, that can get depressed from a move. Sometimes things didn't work out the way you thought, just like I didn't think insects weren't gonna be available year round and die at once. I really want my animals to have the best life, even if it isn't with me. + Just finished watching the entire video. I think you are an amazing animal keeper and I think all reptile keepers should aspire to be like you.
It doesn't matter if you get hate: you're doing what you know is the right choice for your animal's care, and that's a super mature and compassionate decision. You're making the right choice, and I'm super proud of you.
You could still do bioactive without live plants so your geckos can all be bioactive still! But I agree that rehoming isn't always bad. Sometimes you think you are prepared to handle an animal for it's entire life but then things change. You know what you can handle so as long as you find people you trust to take them there's nothing wrong with you rehoming.
Lisa M Thank you so much! And that’s what I’m going to have to do for a lot of the geckos and not have live plants. And I’m very lucky to have found people that I trust that I know will give them the upgrades I want them to have 💕
YES!!!! I Love It!!! Thats exactly What were doing! Improving everybody's habitats, & everyone in bioactive larger enclosures. No more fake plants, & No paper towels! Im also tossing out the heat mats & replacing them with heat projectors, and our animals are thriving!
Nobody should say anything negative because you're not doing anything bad. I think you're doing what many of us should do if in that situation. 11 years ago when I first started keeping reptiles and scorpions I wanted one of each and didn't think that it would be too much and I had all of them in one small room (my room). So all of them were in small tanks. I ended up just returning them to the store, all of them. Now I follow the rule of "is not about how many animals do you have, it's about what's the best life you can give to the animals that you have"
Thank you! And good luck rehoming your animals. If I had a lot of money I would take Panyo lol. If you were rehoming him of course. But I have my wallet ready for 2 more collared lizards :D
As long as your doing your best to find good homes for them I dont see the problem. I hope things go well for you and your animals if it is for the good of both you and them that's all the explanation I feel you need to give.
I agree with you, rehoming animals shouldn’t be put in a bad light. I think you’re making the right decision for your animals by ensuring that they will get their enclosure upgrades even if that means they can’t be with you!
I understand and support rehoming when done for the good of the animal but I’m confused why you just got a whites tree frog if you rehomed three geckos.
Dont feel bad, if its for the right reasons, i do think its a good thing. And im just someone who thinks most sizes they say are big enough... are not. My crestie is in a 30x18x12 and once hes older i will likely use a 40 breeder vertically or maybe even bigger.
Anyone that gives you hate for this is crazy, you’re making a mature and responsible choice to give them what they deserve. There’s nothing wrong with that 😊
Fuck the haters. Downsizing collection and rehoming reptiles is common in this hobby. We all take on different projects and if someone has a really good project planned and will give your animal more than you can theres 0 shame in rehoming. We can all tell you love your animals, and you keep what you're comfortable keeping. I'm a minimalist myself. My snakes are all kept in racks. My crested has a glass enclosure but the rest are in bins. I just find that bins are better for keeping temps and humidity. Theres no right or wrong just personal preference.
I think you're really rad. I don't have an Instagram, is there any other way I could contact you more privately? I can use someone else's to give you other options if that works
Yes, sadly you've come to feel like some of your decisions are to be questioned and critiqued on a regular basis when it's blatantly obvious that you love and care for your babies more than most trolls running their mouths on here. You do you and everything else will fall into place. Looking forward to seeing your babies get upgraded. Much love & respect.
will you be still be keeping some crested geckos? i'm not sure how many you have thats why i'm asking. as a crested gecko mom myself, i totally understand your reasoning. it is so hard to give the little guys everything they deserve and i'm happy you've made this decision for them to better their wellbeing, and i'm sure they are very thankful(:
lily mccole I’m only rehoming one gargoyle Gecko, one Crested Gecko, and on leopard gecko. The rest I’ll keep and upgrade in time as a lot of them are still growing. Thank you so much for your support. 💕
Reptilian Garden thank you for replying! i'm glad to here you are keeping the rest and i cant wait to see them grow! i also can't wait to see the rest of the upgrades you are going to do!💗
