My GP has been an absolute godsend. She really makes a huge difference with my physical and mental health. You’ll make a great one! I think GPs are so underrated in mental health, but mine was my first step and has been there for five years of my journey. I’m sure many will say the same with you
As a district nurse, I would be absolutely thrilled to have you as GP in the surgeries I work with. I find primary care so exciting, and the holistic relationships so rewarding. I think it’s totally underrated ! Good luck, you will be amazing !
My GP retired a couple of years ago and I have felt like I don’t really have one anymore . It’s sad because he was such a great gp. I moved to the area and found him . He was with me through three babies , my mums illness and eventual passing away , my dads cancer and him passing too my cousin commuting suicide , my miscarriage and also he knew me and my family so well . When u go to just any old gp who doesn’t know u it’s hard because they don’t know what u are like other than through previous “notes” . I hope you get to make proper relationships with patients and help people at ground floor level so to speak . You will be great whatever you do because you have a good heart ! X
You are such a kind, considerate, genuine person, who has the most fitting career, as a doctor. Good luck ... you will be fantastic in whatever you do! ♥️
I love that you are still sticking to medicine despite the “fame”. I wish you every luck for your career move. I want to be a midwife in the future and I am currently working towards that doing a health and social course at college 😊😊
Been thinking all along since I first began following your channel, ‘I hope Alex doesn’t burn out from working in A&E. He would make a great GP as he is such a caring and compassionate doc.’ Having worked in hospital pharmacy healthcare in Canada for 40+ years, I’ve seen the effect of working at that level of intensity in the long term. Brilliant career path change Alex!!
All the best! You'll make a great GP as you seem very empathetic. In my experiene, I feel like a lot of GPs lack that sadly. I'm excited to learn more about your journey.
Intensive care nurse here which is all I’ve done since I qualified! Totally feeling the same re prevention and health promotion and people taking control of their own health! And holism in care. Looking at moving into public health. Good luck and stay safe. X
They’ll miss you so very much Alex but your team will have undoubtedly been so privileged to work with you-wishing you all the luck imaginable in this wonderful new venture & career path, you’ll be phenomenal!! Xx💙💙
NHS here too! I think your platform and the things you want to promote will really nicely fit with GP training but in addition your broad experience in A & E will really set you up for being able to make fast decisions on patients putting them on the correct pathways for treatment. You will do really well. Good luck Alex xx
Wishing you all the very best with your training and exams Alex. You'll be an real asset to primary care, your commitment to excellent patient care shines through. As a mental wellbeing advocate too you'll have a real opportunity to offer support to patients early on, helping them access the services the need. You'll be fantastic. Good luck!
Follow your passion, it will never steer wrong! What is for u n life wont pass you. Congratulations u differently will make a brillant gp and u will make an impact to their lives for the better. 🧡 how u interducted the holistic approach. Brillant! The world is differently a better place with a kind soul like you in it.
Brilliant news Alex!! My late Dad was a General Practitioner for 33 years and loved it, he joined his Uncle who was an established Doctor in the same practice in the West of Scotland 😀
Wow, changing to General Practice, that's amazing Dr Alex! Believe it or not you've kind of motivated me to make a decision that I've been putting off for a couple of years and am going to take the plunge and apply to study mental health nursing for next year! So thank you Dr! Good luck with your career change! :)
Good luck you will be a brilliant GP, you will help so many people. My GP is brilliant and has helped me so much around my mental health. Also good luck on your book coming out!!
Admittedly, I was a little sad at the thought of you leaving A&E as you have been such an inspiration with your stories. And I was sad at the thought of you leaving medicine altogether. So pleased you’ll still be in medicine, and no doubt you will be an Amazing GP, building up incredible relationships with your patients and helping them in a much more forward-thinking manner. Makes complete sense with the time aspects as well. Congratulations to you and I wish you the best of luck... we look forward to hearing more as things progress for you 💙
Think it’s a great move! I left anaesthetics and ITU after 3 years to retrain as a GP and I’ve never looked back. I love not knowing what will come through the door and I love getting to know my patients and knowing that sometimes even just a kind word of reassurance is all they need. Think you’ll be fantastic.
@@DrAlexGeorge yep for me it was the fact that my future husband was an Army GP and I didn’t want to face the thought of him being away for months on end and me being left at home with children and doing endless nights and weekends etc. If you had asked me 10 years ago then GP absolutely wasn’t my first choice but now I love it!!
Congrats! You’ve seen the light haha! I’m GPST1 after doing locum years in medicine. It feels great to be back in training, I’ve just done A&E for 4 months and now I’m at my GP parent practice (so I’ll be here for ST1 for 4 months and the whole year in ST3) and I’m absolutely loving it. For the MSRA- i just used passmed and managed to get straight through not having to interview. I know some colleagues used emedica as it’s a very similar format to the actual exam. Good luck! You’ll be a fab GP!
Good for you Alex.. I’ve this year done & completed a nail technician course, I’m an HCA & this year found it very hard & family circumstances have changed with someone I’ll health.. so to be at home more I’m taking a change in direction.. with my Nails by Micky 🤍 so well done, you know your decision is the right one you’ll be an amazing GP 👨🏻⚕️ xx
Scottish GP here! Welcome! Didn’t do the same training scheme as you, but A&E in a DGH give you the best spread of general experience of all the junior jobs in readiness for GP land. The biggest change’ll be having to make decisions without investigations. Just you and your stethescope. You’ll be more than able though. 👍👍👍
Soo happy and excited for you! Absolutely think it’ll be a great move for you. You’ll be an absolutely incredible GP, such sincerity and compassion. I can’t wait to follow your journey all the way to GP Alex!! ☺️💙 congrats and thank you for sharing your journeys with us
Alex, Best of Luck with it. You’ll make a fantastic GP. It’s so obvious that you are extremely passionate about helping people and you have been doing so all this year despite your own struggles. Huge respect for you. We need more people like you in the world. Wishing you every success in you career change 💙💙💙x
I'm sure the hospital will miss you but my goodness what an amazing GP you will make. Not only for your passion but your calm manner and the experience you would bring into that role and continue to grow as a medical professional. How amazing! I hope we get to come on that journey with you x
Amazing news, glad you're still staying in medicine and I know that you're going to make an amazing GP! Anyone would be lucky to have you as their GP! Good luck with all of the training and also congratulations on all of your hard work in the A&E department too! 😊 💙
Dr Alex it goes without saying I wish you well in your future career as a GP you speak so passionately about your profession and remind me so much of our family GP whilst growing up . You will be amazing you are AMAZING , I could actually sit and listen to you for hours . One of my daughters has pre ordered your book and I cannot wait to read it . Looking forward to future updates stay safe keep well and keep on smiling ❤️
You will be a brilliant addition to team GP! I CCT’d last year, I loved every minute of training! PassMedicine has a great online question bank for the entrance exam, and AKT when the time comes for that! Get ready for the extensive reflecting in your e-portfolio!!
Urgent Care service manager here - love your reasons for change of path, prevention is better than a cure! And hey, if you miss ED that much there are always options to work as a GP in ED or a UTC 🤷🏼♀️ The world is your oyster! Good luck 😊
Good luck, it's a really good decision especially if that's what you really want to do. I am now retired and spent most of my working career studying and hopefully advancing, the challenge is worthwhile. Keep safe and stay well.
Fantastic Alex! All the best for your application and career change! You will make an amazing GP- pretty sure I speak for everyone when I say anyone would love to have you as theirs!
Alex you will be a brilliant GP. I wish you all the best in your future. As someone who is terrified of seeing any doctor, you haveca great manner about you, that would help people like me who suffer with iatropbia. Stay safe well.
I gave up nursing after I had my first nervous breakdown and at the end of the day~ do what your heart desires..as for you being a g p any patient would be super lucky to have you looking after them~ Sending loads of love and hugs Xxx Xxx
Once this pandemic is over, I am registering at ur practice solely to come and see you🥲 I kid you not, I will cry (happy tears) & will overcome this whole pandemic trauma experience within a single visit xx good luck doc, hope to join u soon as a colleague (Student doctor) if not as a patient😅
Congratulations and good luck.I am very impressed that you can follow your career in medicine at the same time as all of the social media and charity work. A really fantastic role model for many young people 💖
Good luck Alex 👍you will make a fantastic GP. speaking from someone who has worked in a GP practice environment for 15years you are made for the Job! Your passion and drive is whats needed for our future GP's🎉🎉👨⚕️👌
I'm so happy for you Dr. Alex that your going to join a gp surgery you will be amazing. Your patients will be so lucky to have you. I know you will do great. I wish you all the luck x
I'm a practice Nurse, best decision I made was to move to general practice, I've been a practice nurse now for 2 years and still absolutely love it, primary care is literally the best area to work in. Good luck, you'll be great!
Thank you so much for letting us know your plans. You will make a fantastic GP. The NHS is blessed to have young doctors like you working in it. Wishing you every success for the future ❤️
I think you've made an excellent decision and the right one for you. I've been with the same GP since I was born. I am now in my mid 40s! The Drs are incredible and do an amazing job. You will be an asset to GP land Alex!
Congratulations Alex! You will be a great GP. I wish you were in the US.. I need a great new one here lol. I really admired you since love island because of how you honored yourself and your goals. The way you carried yourself and treated others made me follow you. Good luck in all your endeavors!!!
I'm similar in that I don't like to be stagnant in one place. Good luck with GP, it really does allow you so much more flexibility and like you said there are loads of GPs working in A&E so you'll be getting the best of both worlds.
Hi Alex! Great video - I’m really considering applying to do paediatric nursing for next year but I have so much fear and doubt about whether I will be able to do it! I love hearing people talk about medicine and all the different routes you can go down. I agree that having variety in a job is great - good luck !! X
@@DrAlexGeorge Hi Alex, I don't think you'll see this message but a little update, I decided to go for it and im now studying in London about to do my first children's nursing placement at GOSH!! I can't blieve it and I really believe in myself im going to do great :) xx
I love the safe space you have created here. The comments on this video have been nothing but supportive. If 2020 has taught us nothing else... It really is important that we are kind. Thanks for being you
My husband's a GP in Surrey. He works three days a week and has plenty of time for self and family. He used to work in A&E before and the hours were very unsociable. Plus having to work under the rota system meant he couldn't make plans ahead of time. As a GP, he now makes plans months in advance. It's a great career choice if you want good work life balance. Good luck with your entrance!
Always really enjoy your videos and I can tell how much you care whenever I see your videos, stories or appearances on TV. Wish you the best of luck for your new journey!
You will make a fab Gp. It’s so important for them to be a good people person, and you definitely are that. Also as you say you Have to build up that really good repor with your patience’s. Been a rather poorly congenital cardiac patient. I know First hand just how much it means and helps. I wish you all the best Alex
Anyone will be lucky to have you as their GP. I'm about to begin my career in a hospital as a theatre HCA. The time was right to make a change in my life. Good luck with your application x
Ooh wow my gp was a trainee when he discovered my heart condition at 12 now I'm 24 and he's back at our practice full time as a gp wish you all the luck and best wishes on this next venture! 🙌🎉💖
Aww good luck on your next adventure you will be fantastic! Any GP surgery will be so lucky to have you and you will be so loved by doctors and patients your amazing! I've just pre ordered your book i can't wait to read it!!!! 💙 xx
And there was me thinking you were after Dr. Hillary's job when he retires LOL. I thought you were going to be a media doctor as you are already featuring on Lorraines show. Think you will make an amazing GP. You have so much empathy and drive and really want to make a difference especially in MH which is the most needed area especially after the year we have all had. Hope you are going to continue this platform on YT. You can reach so many people here and we can all support you too when you need it. You are building such a great community on here it would be a shame to lose it but please don't overstretch yourself and get some balance in all of your activities and endeavours.
How exciting for you, will be a great addition for the General Practice whereever you placement will be, you will be busy as I am sure everyone will be requesting to see you good luck in your next venture 2021 is an exciting year for you 🤩
Good decision, I have relatives who are doctors, you need to find your own niche in whatever specialism. A and E is very intense, think you need something more holistic. Do you know Dr Chaterjee? I could see you doing something like him, a GP who works on prevention through careful life choices. You will be great whatever you do. Best of luck and look forward to seeing it all unfold. ( wrote this before i watched )
@@DrAlexGeorgeI'll have to find that and listen! Sure its a great episode. He lives not far from me- a friend passed me his book, it's all very true and so important in these times of lifestyle related illness .... obesity and all that goes with it and of course type 2 diabetes, stress related issues, mental ill health. Some good work to be done out there, glad the two of you are on to it. xx
Great choice I’m sure you will be great! I just moved to London to study intervention in psychosis at kings and I totally get your passion for prevention! I hope to become a clinician and specialise in prevention 😊 all the best x
Good luck with becoming a GP as you certainly have one of the key requirements for being one I.e. excellent communication/relationship - from a patient point of view it is always important to be able to trust your GP and feel like they are interested in YOU. Being able to discuss things with them and them having the interest in you as an individual and not just a number. I’m extremely lucky to have had a great GP for the past 20+ years but have also experienced GPs that either don’t seem that interested or cannot communicate or build up a working relationship which makes you not want to go to the GP. I think you will be great 👍👍👍😘
Happy for you Alex! Totally different as I’m just a pharmacy technician but I work within GP practices in the area of Scotland I live in & I love it! Good luck 🥰 xx
