I am a designer and furniture painter. I would not paint your sink cabinet. The trend is now going back to all wood tones in cabinetry. I also believe it suits the time period of your home.
1. Love the tub and can't wait to see it finished. 2. Leave the cabinet the way it is. Just seal it real good. 3. Name the truck Pearl. And there is my 3 cents.
My suggestion for the beautiful truck is Betty White! She will live for a long time and be beautiful and shine like Betty and be a beast at anything you need her for. Love Ford trucks! Congratulations 🎉
Elysia, it's your bathroom, you can do whatever you choose to do! It's gonna look great, like everything you do. My opinion would be to leave the cabinet with the sink unpainted, but again, YOUR choice! ❤
Hey Elysia, Congratulations on the new truck, & the tub is looking great, although I kinda liked the blue myself. LMAO Truck names, Opal would be pretty. The bathroom cabinet if it were me i would take & give it a good cleaning with Murphys Oil Soap,& then seal the top really well.
Congratulations on your new truck. New name Stormy. So that she can get you through any stormy periods. She will be strong and mighty and last a long time.
When it comes to fancy antique cabinets, I'm always team original wood. However, I don't know your vision or decorative scheme and your judgment when decorating your home has been spot on, so it's your call. Whatever you decide, I'm sure it'll be beautiful!
I think you should try Retique it on the vanity. The warmth of the wood is nice, but the finish seems dated. Without having to sand it all down, you could use the Retique it to give it a new "wood" like finish!
The tub is looking great so far Elysia! And I say do whatever your heart desires with the bathroom cabinet! Don't worry about what anyone else thinks, you are the ones that have to look at it every day! And congrats on the new-to-you truck! 🎉 As for names, I suggest either Britney (as in Spears) because she's Stronger, or Gloria (as in Gaynor) because she will Survive!
Great work on the tub! I would paint the vanity… the design is almost a French country vibe. And you are in Acadian country up there so a little nod to your French community🥰! And a blingy chandelier would suit that room… put a dimmer on it for romantic mood feel. I stayed at an Airbnb in Wedgeport where most rooms had dimmers. It was sooo sweet.
lol, I did the same thing trying to save my tubs in my old stone building. In the end it looked like crap and only lasted a year before it started to rust and leak again, so I ended up finding a very heavy fibreglass tub with huge gold feet on kijiji for $200.00 in perfect shape. This is half the cost of all the paint and strippers and sand paper and epoxy I bought for the cast tub. We all have to go through it for sure. Kudos to you for trying. Well done. Heather
Soooo happy about your truck swap. I have a 4 door Honda truck & I ♥️♥️♥️♥️ it!!!! Plus it had a “trunk” in the back of the bed. The tub looks better than it did. It’s all gonna work out with it. I can see the tub at the window!! With a sheer around it. As far as the vanity…🤷♀️…. It’s old & makes a statement all on its own butttttt if you want it painted…..paint it. ♥️💙💙💙🤟🤟🤟🤟
Elysia, You are a very determined lady. I hope your tub comes out as well as you hope because you have worked so hard on it. I’m would not paint the dresser. It’s so beautiful as it is.
I'm really sad that some people are giving you guys crap for your channel taking a pivot and not just being DIY anymore. I enjoy the variety and feel like I know you all.
We watched you literally build your kitchen from scratch on limited access to water, electricity & crazy weather. We will NOT let you quit now. It will pay off and look beautiful.
The tub really is coming along. From the start of the video to the end it looks so much better! Way to go on not giving up!! I vote naming the new truck Betty White.😊
You keep at it , girl! It’s going to be beautiful! Have you thought about gold leafing the bottom of the tub! Oh my goodness- talk about a showstopper! OR you could purchase online gold car body paint with flecks in it…🤭have fun! Can’t wait to see how beautiful you make it!
Thank you for this video (Angel )is a lucky name for your new truck 🙌🥰 great ideas can’t wait to see all the bathroom come together Guys 😉🙏Karen from 🇦🇺
When I did mine I used the Rust-Oleum brand and it was much thicker and really covered well, it would have hidden all on your first coat in your bath tub and I did two coats waiting the time requested between the 2 coats. I wish it will change to white when it dries for your sake and all the work you put on that tub. 👍. Love your truck, we had a Ford 350 and sold it with our 5th wheel, well really exhange it with someone who offered to change our outfit with a 2016 Ram 4 door. When the lady call. I was not sure as I loved Ford trucks because of how the side front windows curb down towards the front and gives a good view on the side mirrors but then when I saw the inside of the Ram fully loaded and all seats in real leather and in super top condition with only 99000 km so we went for the exchange and I am very glad we did as our Ford was not a 4x4 and the Ram is which we needed where we live but this Winter you are getting the snow we use to have and since the start of the Winter, we only clean our driveway twice which is a record… i would call your truck 🛻 Sylvia as she is silver grey color.
Truck would be a great Opal… I like the wood look of the vanity, it just needs a little refresh! Maybe a touch of deeper stain? And I would add a few nice coats of a good satin finish sealer, to protect it from water damage in the damp environment of the bathroom. I love the tub, and am totally in awe of your determination! It’s A LOT of work to refinish an old tub! BUT OH MY GOODNESS, when you’re done, I believe it will be good for another 100 years! Totally worth the effort! Keeping the original tub in the house is wonderful!
Sure hope that beautiful tub meets your expectations because it’s great to keep. The cabinet is absolutely gorgeous and the wood would be my choice. Can’t wait to watch your bathroom project updates
Iim loving the tub and can't wait to see it shiny & pristine! The gold feet will look so pretty! I think for the period of your house, I'd leave the vanity wood. I would try to lighten it up a bit. I have a dresser that belonged to my grandparents. It is tiger oak but the finish looked like it had been painted black. The bought it used & had celebrated their 75th anniversary when my oldest son was born. He is now 44. I just scrubbed it with a solvant & steel wool until it came down to a warm wood tone. Naming the truck, I don’t think I'm good with that. My first thought was Ford?...Freda, but that's your pig! LOL. Maybe Blanche. Isn’t that french for white? Or Perle for pearl. I know! I'm bad at that! LOL. HUGS~Donna
Wow I was surprised by the tub. 🛀 It looks like you will get it there. I think first finish the bathroom then see if you like the vanity as is. If not then paint it. You always have a good eye for what you want. WooHoo on the new truck. I had been praying about it for you all. A name for the truck “Faithful” It will always be there to get you where you need to go.😊
Elysia I hope the paint covers the blue in the tub you have worked so hard on it. Congratulations on the truck. Im so glad the gentleman worked with you. I went back and looked at the cabin again. I'm like you but I know whatever you deside it will be beautiful you have great taste. I love that you sign I love you my oldest granddaughter is deaf and she thinks it's great. 🤟
I love your commitment to your projects. You asked about the vanity. It would be too much white in the bathroom if you painted it white but I find the colour of the wood tone is presently harsh against all the white. Why not try a colour on the vanity or paint/stain with a slight grey tone to blend in better. I am sure it will look good whatever you do.
I think the tub is going to look fabulous. I think you will probably need another tin to build up the layers but what a transformation already. It's going to be a real labour of love. 👍🏽
I am loving this!!! I have a clawfoot tub that needs to be refinished. You are inspiring me to tackle my own project. I am rooting for you to get fabulous results with the tub. I couldn't believe how nice it was looking. Great job, and thanks for letting us know about the products you're using.
Nice new truck, best of luck with it. Maybe call if "Effie" (F150). Also leave your vanity as is, that wood looks beautiful. Looking forward to seeing your bathroom when it's finished.
I can't wait to see the finished tub! I think it would be so relaxing to bathe while looking at your beautiful property! I vote to keep the cabinet wood for some warmth and contrast. We have a white Ford truck and I named her Betty White. I also love the name Pearl.
I'd paint the cabinet the same colour as the hall cupboard, it looks stunning with the white and will carry the theme through. You can bring in the wood warmth with baskets and accessories if you miss it. As it is it's kind of hovering between antique and vintage. I think painting it will bring it into cohesion.... and I'm not usually the one to say paint it, but I've seen what you can do 🫶
In one house we had before we downsized had the tub in front of a big window. We talked to a glad company and it would cost to much to replace, but they had a glaze for $50.00 that basically turned it into a one-way mirror. Total cost was $80.00 to have them do the work.
I like the wood element, of the vanity, in your all white, 100+ year old bathroom . YOU COULD ALWAYS PAINT IT LATER, but it's harder to remove all that paint, if you decide wood is the way to go. I do suggest putting several coats of a protective sealer on the vanity, since it will be used in a bathroom! Thanks for saving a house, that could easily have fallen into a condemned house, since it was neglected for so long!!
My mother used to name the family vehicle “Josephine” (Josey for short). 😂 I love your bathtub and think it will turn out to be beautiful! My vote is to leave the vanity wood showing. 😊
Hi English Family, Tub is looking pretty good already! Truck name ideas: Opal or Pearl as she's a real gem (like Ruby) , or Lola (as she is a show girl) lol
Elisha I hope this works for you !!!!! It's not fun having to do renovations. It's your bathroom if you want it under the window that's your choice . Glad you got a different truck that's good. Prayers and Love From Ginger
Gotta hand it to you for your persistence with the tub. Looking remarkably better, at this point. Not particularly keen on the old wood of the vintage cabinet as it lacks life, vibrancy. As another suggested, consider Retique. Have seen a few YTers apply it over old wood finishes and the results are amazing. Still the look of wood, but updated. Was holding out for your perhaps adding some beadboard wainscoting (bit of an homage to the age of the house), maybe in your signature blue. Bathroom is so large it can easily accommodate a good amount of strong color, somewhere.
Wow I applaud your persistent spirit! You have worked SO hard on that bathtub and it is looking better and better!!!! You GO girl! Okay so it looks like many people are saying to not paint the cabinet, but I think it would look lovely and fresh with just the right color! Love your new truck! So thankful the seller did what is right! Name her “Tubby” since these two challenges overlapped!lol. Love your channel!!!!
The tub is looking great! I would probably lean toward team paint on the vanity, but would need to see it in the painted room to really leave my very important opinion 🤣🤣🤣 So happy that you have a new truck, feel like that one needs a masculine name...maybe Hank.
Congrats on the truck. Because of her color, how about naming her Pearl. Maybe you can get a plow for the front of the truck to help with some snow removal. Also the tub is looking so much better. It is going to look wonderful.
Great patience 🏆 Where you went off kilter was that you didn't mix the second tin enough before adding into the first part.... Mixing activates.... Definitely recommend getting a second kit & going over again. Can't wait to see the end result! Congratulations on the new truck 🤗
@@ElysiaEnglish Ahhhh I did wonder 🤔 but thought best to mention JIC! I wonder if the temperature was too low? It most definitely should have been a thicker consistency. I know Canada's been Baltic! Just a heads up to check temperature limitations with delivery, storage, application - depends on manufacturer of course.... Would hate to see you expel any more elbow grease than necessary! Good vibes hitting your way 🤗🏆💓
The paint that you painted the outer portion of the tub do you think that you could paint the inside of the tub with that and then put the final coat on top of that that way it would be more white white instead of soy
ELYSIA, the Milky paint for the tub is actually turning it white. I thought it would stay clear. FANTASTIC!! BEAUTIFUL TRUCK!!! Fantastic Upgrade!!!😁😁😁🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼💕💕💕🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
So happy for you guys that things are going your way!!! You deserve it 100%!!! You will discover, when the time comes, whether to paint or just renew the natural wood finish. Cannot waited to see your fabulous finished bathroom!!! Your videos are so much fun to watch! And so inspirational!!!💞💞💞
Awesome!! Love that you chose to do the tub in full white, of course the feet will be gold. 😂 I also think that you should leave the cabinet natural. Put a few coats of satin finish poly to protect it, may be a good idea as well. Congrats on the new truck too! Love it! I'm thinking Snowbird for the name! Looking forward to the next video. Until then, stay well and be blessed English family. ❤️
The tub is coming along great. I can't wait to see it completed. I agree with those who suggested to not paint the cabinet/vanity in the bathroom. I love that it is an antique and has gorgeous details. I'm so happy that you got a truck. You definitely needed it and yay that it passed inspection!! I'm sure the new name that you choose will be a good one.
Good job!! Your perseverance is inspiring! I have a faucet that is in the middle of the tub and I actually don’t love how it functions. It looks pretty but I tend to like very hot water and it kind of burns my legs when I’m in the tub and letting it run. I know you’ll be happy with the faucet at the end of the tub. If I knew then what I know now, I’d have mine like yours!!
