I don't think M had trouble adjusting to the royal family, I think she had trouble not being allowed to grift and was petulant about being expected to adhere to the rules and protocols, and exhibit a decent standard of behaviour and morals. She'd never been held to account before.

A hundred and fifty odd years ago when Queen Victoria was on the throne, she simply would not allow 'morganatic' marriages and as a result of this a number of painful things happened in the family. Edward V111 abdicated (and made a fool of himself), Princess Margaret had to choose whether she married the man she loved or kept her Royal titles (and that decision did her no favours at all) and King Charles would have LIKED to marry his Camilla - except that she wasn't Royal enough and he didn't want to go against protocol - so he and Princess Diana caused each other mega unhappiness for years. Hence the rule is now that a royal prince or princess may marry the person of their choice (only sometimes, like Harry, they're EXTREMELY bad pickers!) Not, however William - THANK GOD! Catherine proves that Queen Victoria's strict rule was nonsense!

Title removal would only be effective if Harry’s Prince title were also removed. Otherwise, she would be Princess Henry and would not correct- if not outright encourage-the title of Princess Meghan.
