I found it interesting that you brought up why a person who would be "overqualified" would want to take their expertise and work for a toxic company...I think we need to address the "elephant in the room" here and just be upfront that at the end of the day, people need an income to help get themselves out of poverty or debt and that is the reason why...I understand we can talk about appreciation and career progression for as long as we wish but I also think we need to be realistic here too...

You're absolutely right, and it's an important point to acknowledge. The reality of needing an income, often to escape difficult situations like poverty or debt, can indeed lead people to accept positions in less-than-ideal work environments. It's a tough situation to be in, and the decision to work for a company that might not align with one's values or career aspirations is never easy. It's a pragmatic choice, and often a necessary one. While it's valuable to discuss career progression and job satisfaction, these conversations must be grounded in the understanding that for many, the primary need is financial stability. It's a reminder that not everyone has the luxury of choosing a job solely based on personal fulfillment or growth opportunities. Your point about being realistic is well-taken - it adds a necessary layer of empathy and understanding to discussions about employment choices, especially in challenging economic times.

Hey there! Great question. First off, congrats on earning your master's degree - that's a huge accomplishment! Now, I totally get the frustration of feeling overqualified for junior roles but not quite landing the mid-level positions that match your skills and experience. It can feel like you're stuck in job search limbo. But don't lose hope! Here are a few thoughts: 1. Highlight your unique value. In applications and interviews, really emphasize how your master's level knowledge and life/work experience can be an asset, even if you don't check every single box. Maturity and big-picture thinking are huge pluses. 2. Be open to stepping stone roles. You may need to take on a position that feels a bit junior at first, but make it clear to the employer that you're eager to learn, grow, and take on more responsibility quickly. Your capability will shine through. 3. Tap into your network. Reach out to old colleagues, classmates, professors, friends, family. See who might be able to introduce you to opportunities or put in a good word. Warm leads can open doors. 4. Show, don't just tell. Take on projects, volunteer work, online courses, certifications etc. that prove your skills are sharp and current. Demonstrating your abilities speaks volumes. 5. Stay positive! I know it's easier said than done, but attitude matters so much. Keep putting yourself out there, learn from each interview, and trust that the right role is around the corner. You've got this! Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm always happy to brainstorm ways to put your best foot forward and find an opportunity that values all you have to offer. Wishing you all the best in your search! Cheers, Jeremy

Will it be difficult to be interviewed if I am 56 years old, but have 25 years of work experience in my career?

No, not at all. Especially if you have good tenure and did not "job hop". I touch on the age discrimination factor in this video.

I've been asked my age several times in interviews and didn't know what to do about it. One time I told them I don't believe you're allowed to ask that and thye kept persisting.

Yeah, they def should NOT be asking that at all. Look up EEOC specs for interviews
