I adopted a child. This game is powerful and completely broke me. This game gives some of it's profits to charity. Available on PC, Mac, Android, iOS, Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox. In this game you adopt the child of an enemy solider and try to raise him right and take care of him in Norway after World war II.
My guide, walkthrough and reaction to My Child Lebensborn. This is my video with commentary, walking you through the game providing education and entertainment by doing voices for Klaus, discussing the real world impact of this game that is based on a true story, and more.
All of this content belongs to me, I record, narrate and edit all my own videos. This video features critique, analysis, first time reaction to and discussion of the game: My Child Lebensborn

This is insanely accurate for a "raise your child" game. There were 1000s of real children like Klaus/Karen that were nothing less than bred to be perfect soldiers for Hitler's future army. As soon as they were weaned from mother's milk they were taken and placed in the care of nurses... in an orphanage, basically. The idea was that mothers would coddle and weaken their babies. Any abnormality, any non-aryan feature, was a mark against the baby's life. Some were adopted out to high ranking German officers and officials to be raised in the "right" kinda home. Very few would ever find their real parents as most records would be destroyed near the end of the war. Estimations are that 20,000 babies were born into the program and 200,000 were stolen from their families if they were Aryan enough.

As a person who was constantly told to "stay strong" when all I've ever wanted was a hug or just to have a conversation about what's been going on, being told to stay strong can definitely harden ones heart. Sometimes you just want to be weak and vulnerable and recieve love in that moment. I can see why he wouldnt want to be strong, hes just a child, he just wants the bad things to stop, if they wont the only choice he has is to harden himself.
@bonkchoy6881

God I feel you on this... I was always told to and complimented on being strong, while harshly criticized if I cried or looked sad for anything but family members dying (or close to doing so). But it dosen't make you stronger. It only makes you create this hard shell on the outside, while that vulnerable child still remains within you, waiting for the comfort and hugs it so desperately needed. I hope you're doing better now and have people in your life that don't expect you to always stay strong. We all deserve, and need, a good hug and conversation once in a while.

Bro i feel you ever since i'm small i were not even allowed to cry one time i fell from my bicycle and hurt my knees and elbow very bad with blood and all so i came home crying and my father threatens me if i not stop he will slap me. So i force myself to stop, and until now whenever i got hurt i just dont care and just continue whatever i did. At one point in university i fell while riding a motorcycle due to rain and my one side of left leg's skin is gone because its tarmac hahaha and what i did was just parked the motorbike at the side of the road and walk to my class thinking i dont want to be late for a test. Then i fainted while taking the test hahaha. Luckily my lecturer and the class able to wake me up and provide water and i'm okay then finish my test and go back to patch my leg. My whole class was worried and told me to take the test other day but i dont want to be bothered to study again and such. Now when i think about it again maybe i'm just too used to being told not to cry and complain even when you are injured and just "man up" or "keep strong" that made me be like this. The problem is when i see other guys cried because of small stuff and all i sometimes feel annoyed and in my mind thinking "just man up" and then i realize i'm wrong they are being raised up different than me so for them its fine to cry when involved in something bad, and it is fine to do so. Only me thinking its not fine. So for people planning to have kids or take care of someone young, tell them they can express being sad. Man up when they had to, and cry when they had to. Now i'm so jealous of people who could confess their sad feelings coz i cannot coz in my mind i keep thinking i'm a man i shouldnt cry and such. Sorry for the long essay ☺️🙏 and good life to you all 😊.

@@cmdr_roy5489 Thank you for sharing, I'm glad you come to such insights. But I think we as humans are very capable of change and just because circumstances and our childhood from parts of ourselves do not mean we could never find peace. I was in a similar situation as well but the people who do love you and only want the best for you would definitely be there to allow you to be vulnerable and show your emotions, so find those people. It's gonna take a while to remove the influences from our childhood... but I do think we can change and relax more to cry sometimes and express our sad emotions because we are already taking the first step towards being emotionally healthier!

Seeing Klaus so optimistic and cheerful at the beginning of the game and just watching him grow more and more depressed is soulcrushing ;-; Also if a teacher forces everyone to urinateon a boy shouldn't other parents be concerned? I get that they probably think Klaus deserved it but imagine that you, as a parent of one of those kids, is told that your kid was told by his teacher to pull down his pants in front of everyone and to pee on someone, and then the teacher pulls his pants down and does the same. i imagine the kids wouldn't have told their parents, to be honest. either because they didnt want to get in trouble, were ashamed of it or the teacher told them not to say anything. i think its pretty reasonable to assume that the teacher was molesting other kids in the class and this was part of his grooming methods, to make it so the kids don't question exposing themselves or being exposed at. we're not privy to what the other kids or parents are going through, so for all we know they were outraged, but this is the 50s. i think the parents would have been more likely to tell their kids to never speak about it and keep their heads down out of fear of being shamed by their community. if you choose karina at the beginning, instead of being called a traitor, the neighbours call her a whore. an 8 year old. so it's pretty reasonable to assume that they wouldn't be kind to any child that came forward saying they'd been abused by their teacher

There’s a whole whole lot to say about this game, but one point I found interesting: after you work out what Solheim was doing, the game won’t let you send the kid back to school. That’s a line your character will not cross, no matter how otherwise awful, neglectful, or resigned they’ve been. Realistically I understand why you can’t give some of these bastards what they deserve: then you’d go to jail and Klaus would be truly alone. Still, I kinda want to see that mod where you bludgeon Solheim with a shovel and bury him alive in the woods.

I normally don't get angry for any reason. But this made me genuinely furious. Not only towards my "forefathers" as a german (although I had only one uncle in the army, he was 19 when drafted and sent to Stalingrad), but also towards the people who would blame a little kid and put him or her through something like that. What the Germans did to all those people was horrifying, no doubt about it. But the children coming out of those relationships did not do anything to anyone. Blaming children for the sins of their parents is just as wrong and disgusting as what was done to them. I am a teacher myself, and that Mr Solheim is a disgrace to our occupation (yes I know he is a fictional character, but there were enough people like him).

Everything in this game was so heart wrenching, but the bit that finally broke me was when they are packing and Klaus is comforting his toys as he packs them up. It just feels so much like a self-soothing behavior. After everything else that had happened, seeing him display that kind of uncertainty and hope in such a childlike way was such a gut-punch for me. It's like a final reminder, after seeing him go through such terrible things, that Klaus is a CHILD. All I wanted to do the whole time was to hold the poor boy and make sure he felt safe and loved. Amazing and beautiful game, absolutely heartbreaking, but beautiful.

Aside from everything else horrible that happened to the little angel Klaus, the part that made me cry the hardest was when they were going to meet his grandparents; the excitement and the million childlike happy questions Klaus had before they went about the train and how much he likes them only to go on it and have two grown ass adult pieces of shit talk horribly of him right there in front of it just broke my heart. Coming from a Jewish family, anything about the Holocaust hits pretty close, but my family taught me love and forgiveness. You can guess my nervousness when I showed my German boyfriend to my grandma, but she welcomed him with open arms. For all she's been trough, she'd never put it on the next generation. While that didn't work out, I'm glad roots had nothing to do with it and that we're still friends in the end. It is understandable how fear can lead to hate, but only kindness can heal wounds. For anyone dealing with the generational trauma of being at the wrong end of the war, or anything for that matter, know that you don't bear the sins of your ancestors. No matter what anyone says, remember that you are innocent. No one is accountable for the generation(s) before them.

I think it's so interesting, seeing the aftermath of the war All we're ever taught in school is about the Nazis, and Germany's government and economy pretty much falling apart I genuinely had no idea, that there were Norwegian women, who had kids with German guys, or that the kids would face so much stigma. And there's such a strange irony to it, considering how the Germans were so discriminatory towards the Jewish people, then afterwards, the German children were the ones, being discriminated against I really wish schools would teach more of this, that there's more nuance to the whole situation

This is an emotional masterpiece. You are almost constantly worried as a parent. Worried, that the child is hiding something from you, worried that you mess up your kid, worried that it gets bad friends or can't stand up for themself. And you try to be as patient and understanding as possible. And the worst thing of all is that you can't see what the future brings. Thank you for playing it. PS: Also... i 100% understand the serial killer impressions. If it weren't bad for your and your child's future, you maybe would have had the option for that.

Oh, this game broke my heart so much. My mom's side of the family migrated from Okinawa after the 1945 occupation where my great-grandma was forced to chop her hair and hide in the massive web of tunnels where Americans and Japanese were hunting kids down for whatever desired. She somehow survived but came to America, lost all three of her kids to police after being abandoned by her English husband and having everything English-teaching completely gone. Afterwords, she was forced to have two children who didn't live long in a psych ward for being listed insane after losing her kids and attacking the officers, ended up with a worse husband, and never knew the depths of the foster world until she saw two of her three kids for the rest of her life. We still can't find her third kid, and divorcing your husband in East Asian culture is a full-on insult, so everyone who was native East Asian fully berated and almost assaulted my great-grandma, and somehow she survived the chaos until she was almost 100 in 2013. This reminded me of them so much, and I got really sad. Thank you for showing us.

For finding the third child, did you guys try ancestry tests? The ones that tell you if you're closely related to someone else who had taken it previously and is in their database, like 23&Me or Ancestry DNA? It's a bit of a stretch, considering the third child may not have had children, or those children and such may not have done any ancestry tests, but might at least give you some place to start... and btw, it's better to test with as many companies as possible if you're looking for someone specific

(now my mother wasn't against me or anything similar to the child in the game however everyone including the teacher was mean to me) the thing is it's affected me to a point where now i'm just simply disgusted by others.. not because i want to but because my childhood has soured me.

My mother went though a very similar situation. Pretty much every German was intensely hated for a while. Including civilians and children who had no involvement in what the Nazis did. The echos of war take generations to heal. And it's happening again. I don't understand why people don't learn from experience here. Humans are not built for war, soldiers suffer horrible mental side effects. And they are usually very young. Like not old enough to drink young. There is no glory in war, only suffering.

I thought, at 5:39:00,that I had the video paused. The silence was oppressive. The pain was real. Klaus is not a real child. He is hundreds of them, and he is ours. It is difficult not to love this boy, even with all your senses telling you he’s not real. Except he is. The reason Karin/Klaus touches us so much is because they are so real and raw. When you read aloud, I cannot help but love this child with you. It’s an amazing game and an amazing player and the way it’s brought all of us in the comments together is just so something.

this game was absolutely beautiful. I was able to relate to some of Klaus' experiences including the thing that happened with Mr. Solheim. Considering how Klaus didnt want to bathe, I'm assuming he got "touched" because I had been through something similar when I was about 5 years old and I feared physical contact for a while. I'm glad the profits made from this game were able to go towards good causes! But also, it shows the signs of when a child has gone through something and how to support the child after such a horrible experience, and as the child's parent or guardian you have to learn that sometimes they won't communicate their pain straight up and you have to be patient. It raises awareness.

I've played this. Downloaded after I'd seen your story post on Instagram. Such a powerful and sad game. Hoping things would get better and they didn't. My heart broke when Karin didn't want to eat or have a bath, let alone touch her. Thoughts of what that horrible teacher may have done filled me with horror. What makes it even harder is it is based in real events. That these poor children went through so much, and all because their mum's did something just to survive. Part of me wants to try the game where I'm not so nice to see what happens. But it's not in my nature and so I'm not sure how that would play out. And thank you for playing and sharing this. Your empathy for little Klous was painful and heartwarming. My heart broke when you went quiet and had left the room because it was so hard. I think more games like this should exist because it gives you a tiny idea of what people went/go through. It's a true eye-opener.

Holy crap. This is the first video I've seen on the channel and I watched it all in one day. 6 hours went by fast, I was hooked. You made pretty much all the decisions I would have made, which made me even more invested, because it felt like I was Klaus' parent too. I found myself smiling at things Klaus said, his excitement about trains, how he asks to do "something nice," his amazing hiding spots for hide and seek, and his joy for the little things. This kid is so sweet and understanding, he deserves all the cuddles. His pure kindness makes this game all the more heartbreaking. I was repeating "oh no, my baby boy" to myself over and over during the last hour or so, when Mr. Solheim's detentions started. God, this was a ride. Your parenting was lovely, Klaus had a great, trusted adult he could always rely on to take care of him. It was so comforting to know that, in spite of all the horrible things, he has his parent! The little silly remarks you made, making him talk back to you, and the voice you gave him (it was silly at first but eventually I loved it and found it endearing) were just great, they added to the playthrough! I had no idea about the historical aspect of this, and I learned a lot. It's heartbreaking and tragically ironic, that the Nazi ideology got reused by the Norwegians in the face of trying to recover from the trauma of the war. Apparently I was in the mood to write an essay, lol. A 6 hour video like this deserves one! This was a great use of 25% of my day :)
