Professor, as an undergraduate studying ECE, I just wanted to thank you for all your videos, which are of tremendous help! Without them, I would have a much harder time learning physics during my freshman year. I understand your frustration that your channel is not reaching a broader audience, especially when you are very passionate about sharing the beauty of physics with the world. Please do not feel too disappointed! Your hard work is much appreciated by all who have learned from you! Also, people's interests vary, so you cannot expect everyone to love physics. Other physics channels or educational channels may have experienced declining view counts as well. However, for those who want to learn physics for whatever reasons, they will inevitably find your channel and be inspired by your lectures in the end.

Despite your disappointment in your current students, I would like to let you know how much your lectures on youtube helped me. I am a chemist who became a high school chemistry teacher when I was 57 years old. As I prepared for my first year of teaching, my school informed me I also will teach physics. I bought some physics books and found your lectures from MIT. All summer I watched your classes, and studied my book. I started my teaching year and continued studying physics. At the end of my second year, I took a PRAXIS exam for physics. This exam demonstrates a persons proficiency in their subject. When I sat for the exam, I was the oldest in the room by about 35 years. PRAXIS is graded on a pass/fail basis with a special distinction for students attaining in the highest 10%. I made it: the highest 10%. I credit your lectures for that honor. Thank you.

Your class on rainbows made me curious about the angle of the sides of the Great Pyramid- reflecting pools around the base and maybe a glass cauldron of water on top, nothing extra fancy. I'd love to build a model. I'm 40 years old and watch for fun. You definitely deserve the respect of our full attention when we view. I wish i could dedicate more time, thought, and memory to everything that you've shared. But, I can only imagine that I'll be watching you for many more years to come (or as long as i am still among the living.) You should always be celebrated ❤️ You've earned it.

I can truly understand your frustration regarding some people's behaviour that come across as unappreciative, something which is compounded by the emotionless nature of social-media, YT in this case. However, I want to stress the incredible impact you have made on thousands of people, myself included. I remember the first video I watched of your channel, the one about fluid mechanics and hydrostatics. It fascinated me beyond comprehension, it was as if everything I have thus far learned, finally*, "clicked". It was also that video, which ignited a renewed interest, as well as an outlook, regarding physics. *You* were the reason, for my renewed passion of physics, something for which I am incredibly thankful. Thank you, Sir. You are deeply appreciated.

Professor, I truly understand your disappointment, and I'm sorry, but I can't help but express my concern. I don't know what has caused the drop in views on your videos, but it seems quite drastic. You have dedicated so much time to teaching this subject and educating students online. However, as someone still in the learning stages, I find it challenging to grasp some of the points you make, especially since I'm still working on understanding the basics. I hope you can understand my perspective and the difficulties I'm facing in fully engaging with your videos. It appears that the audience has dwindled, and there seems to be waning interest in the learning material you share. On a positive note, I highly recommend that you consider joining Twitter. By posting daily problems and sharing the content from your RU-vid channel, you could attract a different audience and potentially monetize your presence there as well. I'm confident that you will receive tremendous support on the platform, as Twitter is known for having an intelligent user base. I believe it's the right time to explore new avenues to reach a broader audience and make your expertise more accessible to people like me who are eager to learn. I genuinely hope this suggestion brings positive results for you.

Dear Professor, I have watched some physics videos and I like how you explain, I have a concern that I would like to know your opinion on. There is a person with a gun, who shoots from a distance D, what conditions must be met for the kinetic energy projectile to hit a person? Consider a real laboratory, I imagine that the wind, projectile temperature, recoil must be measured. of the weapon, and a family of angles in an acceptable range to hit a person standing at that distance D. Although the problem posed is a projectile launch, widely studied in a physics instructional course, when analyzing a real case, a probability of impact must be considered. Greetings from South America

I have not gotten to relativity yet, I never got past mechanics or electrodynamics in full. But I thought about gravity and Einsteins vision of it being bending of spacetime. I then thought wouldn’t gravity then exhert a force like fabric exhert normal force to the ball else it goes through. I then started to imagine what if the fabric was not really there, what is this region was simple the coordinates in space and time where least amount of energy is spent. I then started to think deeper, if it is minimal energy spent then anywhere outside would naturally require more energy and thus it would be almost like a rubber band like a force steering the object to stay within the region. Since light travels the shortest path and least energy spent naturally is along shortest path, this means light would also travel on this region. Then I started to consider this was truly about mass and energy, and the must be other conserved quantities not part of energy and have their or minimising quantity phenomenon. Then I started to think maybe we could class matter as a ratio between conservered quantities in a stable state, almost like the quantities are the buckets and a fixed amount of water that can distribute itself across the buckets. This daydreaming gave me inspiration I should redo classical mechanics proper and really self teach myself to a level I can start communicating and investigating my ideas

I don't understand, and I get very confused by the results of the double split and other similar experiments. There are forces around us that act upon protons in this experiment. Also, it seems clear to me that these forces are affected by the apparatuses that are used to observe them. It's clear to me because of the fundamental law of physics that an object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by a force, a principle articulated by Galileo. This easily correlates with quantum entanglement and its paradoxes, string theory, dark energy, Bell's Theorem, gravity, thermodynamics, Length contraction, Hawking Radiation, Casimir Effect, Compton Scattering, and a host of other subjects. The eraser experiment is about these forces and their effects on the photon… Since Young’s presentation of a famous paper to the royal society entitled “On the theory of light and colors” in 1801 and his subsequent famous interference experiment in 1803, light was established to be a wave. About 100 years later, it was realized that light showed behavior characteristics of both wave and particle in the double slit experiment (and its variations) had become a classic for its clarity in expressing the central puzzles of quantum mechanics. At that time, there was no concept of dark energy. The current concept of dark energy came about in the 1990s. I believe that dark energy is the reason for the wave characteristics of light (particles). What is one of the most fundamental laws of physics, established by Galileo, that a body in motion stays in motion unless acted by a force is the basis of my conclusion. Numerous, if not all, of the characteristics attributed to particles, I believe, are attributable to dark energy. This results in Einstein being correct; the moon is not visible simply because it’s being observed. It’s always present because these forces (dark energy) are not enough to affect its position in space. Just to be clear, double slit and similar experiments are proof of two things. First, it is proof of dark energy. Secondly, it’s proof of the existence of strings. Little, if anything, is known about dark energy. One of the things they know, for sure, about dark energy is that it’s not detectable; it cannot be observed. That’s why they call it dark. As for the proof of the existence of strings, the interference patterns left by double-slit type experiments are characterized as wave-like. Wave-like behaviors are foundational to the definition of string theory. Finally, is the fact that phenomena, wave-like behavior, disappear when apparatuses are used to observe (detect) those experiments. These assertions are further substantiated by the results of the eraser and similar experiments. Remember that the Michelson & Morley (1887) experiment was one of the most sensitive test of its time. Poignantly, it failed to detect any indication of ether wind stemming from “luminiferous ether.” It just wasn't there, completely undetectable. Not a hint. I believe dark energy is a universal uniformed negative Electric/Magnetic monopole structure. I think this accounts for its characteristics. Also, it’s interesting to note that at the time that Einstein identified Brownian motion, string theory did not exist. I feel that if string theory existed at that time, Brownian motion could have been used to substantiate that theory, string theory. Newton, very cleverly, removed the consideration of curvature from his calculations. He did this by using points center of masses. Einstein put curvature back into the calculations. He did this by cleverly introducing the concept of space-time. I, personally, do not believe that light bends around massive objects because of space-time. The light bends around massive objects because light is repelled by mass, also Hawking Radiation. Additionally, I am confused about the concept of time. I believe that time does not exist when there is only one point, a single point. This is due to the way calculations are done within the framework of Cartesian geometry and not because of physics. There is no place in physics where there is only a single point. Again, and I know that I’m repeating myself, particle physics needs to be transformed into dark energy physics. By identifying matter as having wave-particle characteristics, matter has been mischaracterized. Science needs to be re-focused on the waves observed in the double split and the like, experiments and deemphasize the focus on particles. The concept of wave-particle duality should be abandoned. Schrödinger equation, Probability density function, and, very importantly, Maxwell's equations emanate from dark energy. As a starter, science needs to focus on the waves observed in the double split and similar experiments to determine their minimum and maximum characteristics. This should be done by varying the parameters of the experiments as much as possible. The screen should always be as large as possible. The slit should be as small as possible. The slit should be as far away as possible from the screen. Particles of varying masses and charges should be systematically used. Then all these factors, except fixed conditions, i.e., the results, should be systematically varied and their data recorded and then finally compared and analyzed. Outlier data should not be excluded. This should establish conclusively that a force is responsible for the behavior of the particles and not the inherent behavior of the particles themselves. Doctor Lewin, your physics courses were the very first courses I ever watched; I watched them on MIT online, I am very thankful for the videos that you make. Thank you!

Hello ! Prof . I am from india i have a doubt in physics , TOPIC CAPACITOR ,BASICALLY CHARGING OF CAPACTIOR , MY QUESTION IS THAT IF WE CHARGE A PARALLEL PLATE CAPACITOR THE CURRENT (i) flow in circuit BUT MY QUESTION IS THAT B/W THE PLATE THERE WILL NO CIRCUIT BUT CURRENT FLOW ENTIRE CIRCUIT AND ALSO THERE IS MAGNETIC FIELD B/W THE CAPACITOR WHICH IS ONLY CREATE BY CURRENT FLOW , SO CAN YOU MAKE ME UNDERSTAND WHAT ARE THE MECHANISM , I WAIT FOR YOUR BETTER RESPONSE , THANKS LOVE FORM INDIA ❤ PROF. Welter lewin sir

On a capacitor, the current doesn't flow in DC. The current is proportional to the DERIVATIVE (the rate at which it's changing) of the voltage. The electrons get "pushed" to one of the plates when the voltage changes, which is the current. When you discharge the capacitor, the electrons go back to an even distribution, that rush of electrons is the current. The energy is stored in the ELECTRIC (not magnetic) field between the plates, created by the imbalance of charges between them.

Many creators put a lot of effort into their videos, but it's not possible to watch all of them. When making videos on RU-vid, you will have to accept the fact that not everyone will be as interested in your videos. By the way, you could also look at this situation from the opposite perspective: maybe you didn't make the video interesting enough for some, maybe you should change some things to make it so that more people will want to watch until the end.

Hello Sir. Just so you know, RU-vid has a tool in which you can see "audience retention", you can actually know where most people clicked off and how many watched till the end.

Dear Prof. Lewin, I want to please you not to be disappointed. I watched your solution 176 until the end then wrote a transkript for better understanding and compared your solution with a chapter in the famous book Bergmann Schäfer Lehrbuch der Experimentalphysik Band III, by F. Matossi from 1972. Your video gives me much more insights and clearity to the subject of reflection as all my physics books could did. Thank you very much for your work. The subject actually becomes a new importance. The photovoltaic modules all have permanent covers with a sheet of transparent plastic which causes slight losses of light energy. In the future these covers probably will be forbidden due to a contents of fluorine. Instead of this the use of thin glass is in discussion. i planned a lecture on reflection of light. in autumn. So i would please you to show your experiments. All the besft have a nice day. Best wishes from Germany, Johann
