There is still so much to discover in this franchise! I can speak german and watched the whole trilogy in german once and it amazes me every time i remember watching it! Normally dubbed versions of movies are never as good as the original version but man i have to admit that at the beginning it seems a little strange because you are used to the original actors voices but in the german dubbed version the voives seem more alive and clearer and i don‘t know why but it feels even more real and the original version seems more acted or staged if you know what i mean! It‘s mind blowing how some dubbed versions can be even better than the original ones!!

Yoda tells Luke that he doesn’t need his weapons to go into the cave, but Luke takes his weapons anyway. This shows that Luke has aggressive tendencies, which could lead him to the Dark Side. Luke attacks Vader, throws the first swing, which is also against the ways of the Jedi. Then, there is the family connection. The cave shows that Luke could lose to his aggressive tendencies.
@mikejohnson3574
@mikejohnson3574 3 года назад
That cave is what's known as a Dark-Side Nexus. It's an area where the Dark Side of the Force is naturally strong. That vision was the Dark Side reaching out to Luke, and showing him his immense potential. Yoda had nothing to do with the vision. In fact, the reason that Yoda decided to exile himself on Dagobah is because it's naturally strong with the Dark Side, and because of that, it's easy for him to hide. He would be suuuuper easy to find on a neutral world like, say, Endor or Hoth.

Yoda taught younglings, so I guess almost all Jedi could say he was their teacher at some point, but that does not mean they were his Padawan. Because Yoda had remained hidden, Vader was not even aware he was still alive. So he assumed that Ben had trained Luke.

Now go back and watch the scene in A New Hope where Luke and Ben have just met and they go to Ben's cave. Luke asks him "whatever happened to my father?" Watch Ben's reaction. Even then, they knew where the story was going. Ben quickly searches for a way to tell him a story that is kinda-sorta true but is false enough so that Luke's dad-worship won't get in the way of him eventually facing down Vader. It's absolutely brilliant in hindsight.

I am skeptical about your claim regarding conscious foresight of the ultimate overall story trajectory. George Lucas initially had many general concepts that he wanted to incorporate into his episodic Star Wars saga, but the specific plot details of the Original Trilogy were not actually fleshed out until each successive film was written. My understanding is that Lucas did not even decide upon expanding the role and importance of Vader in the overall story arc until it became apparent how iconic and popular the Dark Lord character would become. In fact, prior to the release of Episode V, many fans reasonably expected that the new character Boba Fett (first introduced in the infamous 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special) was going to be the primary villain in the film with Vader possibly reappearing in only an ancillary role.
@coasterguy
@coasterguy 3 года назад
@@Daniel-415-Ponce Go back and watch Ben's face when Luke asks him the question. Yes, I'm aware that Lucas changed or added to the story as he went, but the look on Ben's face plus the fact that "Vader" literally translates to "Father" in several languages makes me believe that this bit was known.
@Daniel-415-Ponce
@Daniel-415-Ponce 3 года назад
@@coasterguy The problem with your theory is that for actor Alec Guiness to have consciously affected an informed character reaction to Luke's question implies that George Lucas would have had to have divulged the secret of Luke's true paternity (or at least the general idea that Kenobi was bending the truth) to Guiness prior to filming the scene, and over the decades not a single anecdote or shred of evidence has ever emerged to corroborate such a scenario. If the greatest reveal in cinema history had a more extensive behind-the-scenes backstory, then surely someone such as Lucas himself would have shared it with the public by now.

When Luke is with Yoda and they are at the tree filled with the dark side, he asked, “what’s in there?” Yoda replied, “Only what you take with you.” Luke was thinking physically and took in his gun and saber. Fun fact: Initially the twist was supposed to be Obi-Wan killed Lukes father which was a decent twist but that was merely a cloak for the real twist which was luke was Vader's son, Mark Hamil was escorted to a room where the writer and George Lucas told him the twist and he was told to keep it a secret. at the premiere when the twist was revealed, Harrison Ford who was sitting next to mark said to him during the film "Hey kid, you fucking tell me" XD this part is exactly why I love Harrison Ford speaking of hope to see you react to his films like Indiana Jones, American Graffiti, and Patriot Games (In which Sean Bean who played Boromir plays the main villain who is a member of the IRA)

What I love about Vader's talk with the Emperor is how knowing he's Luke's father completely changes how you interpret the dialog. If you only know that Vader is Luke's enemy, lines like "he's only a boy" just sound arrogant and dismissive. But once you know Vader is Luke's father, you realize he's actually just trying to talk the Emperor out of having Luke killed.
@Daniel-415-Ponce
@Daniel-415-Ponce 3 года назад
Incidentally, for those who do not know, the original theatrical cut of the film had a completely different version of the Emperor for this scene as well as slightly different dialogue. Actor Ian McDiarmid's portrayal seen here was digitally added years later to maintain continuity with all the other Star Wars films in which the Emperor appeared.

But I remember sitting in the theater watching Empire, and towards the end thinking that this movie was really long, and wondering how they were going to wrap the story up? At the time, I had no idea they were going to make a third movie. So, I was blown away by "the big reveal," and also by the cliffhanger ending, with Han frozen, being taken back to Tatooine, and the Empire still in power. What a long three years it was waiting for Return of the Jedi. I also remember debates (in print in those pre-Internet days), questioning whether or not Darth Vader was actually Luke's father, or if he was just blowing smoke up Luke's butt, lol.

George Lucas actually brought John Williams in pretty late in the process on the first film, as he had planned to use The Planets by Gustav Holst to score the movie. Lucas told Williams that, and his score for Star Wars includes plenty of allusions to Holst (or borrowed liberally, if you're feeling less generous). But with more time for Ep. Actually, the novelization of Empire Strikes Back was released BEFORE the film came out, so anyone who had bothered to read it - - I, as a little kid, was one of those people - - knew the big reveal in advance of the film's premiere. Also, at that time, people who were privileged enough to have their own home movie projector could purchase by mail order an official two-reel 16mm 30-minute cut of the film, but George Lucas was careful to edit out the big reveal in that version so that the secret would not be spoiled for most people going to see the movie at cinemas.

@@SebScreen It was during some reshoots for the first film...he was on his way to the shoot when the accident happened. It would have involved reshooting some material of Luke driving the landspeeder, but because of the accident, they never got the scene, which is ultimately why the only scenes of Luke actually driving the speeder are in wide shots, as they had to use a double.

The Reason Vader did not kill Piett is becuse he respected him, as well as at that time he was more disappointed and sad than angry. Also something about R2 being there that you wil understand later down the line

Plus it wasn't the crew's fault that time. Vader respects competency and that escape was out of their control.

"Luke LOST!?!" THAT is a big contributor to why most consider THIS the best movie of the franchise! Having a movie where the Hero (and ALL the good guys actually) LOSES? Much less gets their collective butts kicked? Outside of Noir films THAT just WASN'T done back then. These days it is MUCH more common. Everyone wants to be Tarentino, or "dark & edgy" or nihalistic now. But, in the "old days" the good guys almost ALWAYS won! (eventually)

Fun Facts Time: 2:49 this scene was shot during an actual full on White-Out blizzard that had rolled in over night. In fact, the blizzard was far too hazardous to actually go out to shoot on location, so instead, they just shot at the hotel the cast and crew were staying at. They literally just set up the cameras indoors and shot through the hotel window, while poor Mark Hammal is staggering around in an actual blizzard and that there were also buildings around him, that were just totally blocked out by said blizzard, *That's* how *BAD* it was.

For an awesome puppet movie recommends Dark Crystal 1982. The Voice of Yoda is in it as Aughra/ Frank Oz.

Awesome character detail: like most, I assumed that Yoda's curious grammar was because of his original language. He actually chooses to speak that way because he thinks it makes him sound more formal, which I find hilarious. The opening part of the story where Luke got injured and had to be healed was to explain why the actor looked different. He got in a terrible accident and had to have extensive plastic surgery. Was Vader in a bad accident or something? You could say that. You could say that. Yoda was performed by Frank Oz, who was Jim Henson's right-hand man and a good director in his own right.

so apparently vader DID know about luke before the emperor told him. there's a comic where vader learns the x-wing pilot who destroyed the death star is named Skywalker. his response is to use the force to blow out the windows of his ship in rage

It's important to note that Vader is just toying with Luke. Trying to get Luke to use his anger. Vader isn't trying to actually hurt him, that is until Luke lands a lucky hit on Vader. Vader then loses his shit and cuts Luke's hand off.

The sith live by "the rule of two" which means there can only be two sith, a master and an apprentice. The apprentice will eventually try to overthrow their master with their own apprentice. Fun thing about Vader is that when he holds his saber with one hand he is just playing around, but with two hands on its getting more serious.

I dont know if you read this already somewhere but those imperial Class Star destroyer are listed with a Length of 1600m (1,6km), While Vaders Flagship, a Super Star Destroyer of the Executor Class, is 19.000m (19km) long. They only had a few SSDs but i read the Empire had something around 20.000 to 25.000 imperial Class Star destroyer alone in use. ^^

I cannot tell you how fun it has been to watch you view these movies for the first time!! I couldn't yet drive when Star Wars came out so I had to beg my older sisters to take me, and I only got to see it twice. However, I was in high school and had a job when Empire Strikes Back came out and by the time it was no longer in the theaters I had seen it 17 times. Yup... I was just that much of a nerd. Keep in mind, though, home video was not a common thing yet so as far as I knew, I might never get the chance to see it again. So I was doing my best to commit it to memory.

My favorite scene in this film is when Luke can’t get his ship out and Yoda does and then Luke says “I don’t believe it” and Yoda says “That is why you fail.” I love all the training scenes between Luke and Yoda in this film. Yoda is my favorite Star Wars character! While I didn’t get to see the original trilogy when they first came out at the cinema, in the late 1990s prior to the prequels they re-released the original trilogy in cinemas and I got to see them then. Sometimes the cinemas will get permission to do so again. They did it right before the first film in the sequel trilogy was released at a cinema in the big city near me. My sister, niece, and I went and they had actors in costumes as different characters from the franchise you could interact with and take photos with and the ticket and concessions staff were all dressed in various rebel pilot or imperial officer costumes. It was neat! So whenever they re-release the films again at a cinema near you I’d recommend going! It’s a lot of fun! Love seeing your reactions to Star Wars! Great editing around the music to avoid copyright issues! I think you got all the parts people most hope to see someone’s reaction and included just enough music to connect with your comments about the music. The score is really amazing! It’s fun to play in school band, too. My favorite time playing songs from films, especially Star Wars, was when the high school band would put on concerts for the elementary school kids in my school district. The kids always loved it, especially the Imperial March song!
