As a former navy sailor I loved hearing u go into depth about this stuff. We don't have klabaitermann but pretty much every one of our ships that aren't new has a ghost story or is said to be haunted. Mostly by sailors who killed themselves or by jumping overboard. It doesn't make news or anything but it happens all the time.
Same here I’m a competitive sailer who crews on double handed boats and occasionally skippers a laser. The level of detail that goes into just the first 11-ish minutes go into so much detail and I am so glad.
Haven't finished the entire video so maybe you touch on this eventually, but I wonder if/when we will see the Sunny's klabauterman? I bet it looks like this
I'm guessing we havent seen it cuz they only start appearing when the ships start to fall apart and die. We got antropomorphic Sunny in Film Red at least😅
Iirc, we saw sunny before. He looks like Merry's big bro. Kinda looks like an 8 hear old kid wearing a rain coat and his top face (eyes and up) was covered.
Love this kind of content, but one small addition/correction While Rafts are the simplest form of water vessel, they aren't necessarily always the smallest of the 3, and aren't wholly made obsolete by boats. Large Rafts have been in use since Ancient Egypt at least, and in 1896 the largest Raft ever recorded was built spanning nearly 300 feet wide, and 1500 feet long. It was a Log Raft large enough to carry Adam Tree Wood.
Plus switching to submarines would mean any seafarer having to relearn combat and navigation from scratch, and add a whole host of extra difficulties for basic habitability.
Urouge is one of my favorite side characters I’m hoping there are big things in store for him. Sweet power the awakening could be nuts and the lore potential around him is way up there.
23:40 it was this point in the anime when i realized, "Something ain't quite right with that boy", as of catching up on the anime i can confirm "Something ain't quite right with that boy"
Funny enough! I started watching One Piece with my mom last year and when she saw that scene she was like "I get that he is made of rubber, but something ain't right here. Why is he so strong?" I think yoir normal anime watcher will just disregard it as shonen logic but holy shit there was an explanation for that actuálly+
You forgot the Rocketman! It being a runaway sea train fast enough to move across the surface of the ocean without a need for rails technically qualifies it as a ship so long as it has fuel. Also honorable mention to Water 7 itself, which Iceberg intends to turn into a ship to stop it slowly sinking with every year's Aqua Laguna, even if he isn't quite there yet.
Water 7 is actually based off of the 7 cities of the Hampton Roads area in VA. It’s home to the largest shipyard complex in the world and produce the majority of ships for the US navy.
Small correction for Moria he did build a full crew for himself in the past however they were mostly wiped out when he attacked kaido in Wano. The zombies are (or at least are implied) the corpses of his former crew and a few other strong bodies he grave robbed along the way. It's unclear if Thriller Bark was his ship at that time but it seems unlikely as you'd have to get it over/under the red line
43:18 as we saw at the start of the world summit arc one pirate crew used a submarine which was intercepted by coby and helmeppo and they made it sound like subs were a recently utilized technology. Perhaps law was just ahead of the curve over everyone else.
A huge ship made of wood and gold with propellers fueled by electricity and that sailed to the moon? Nah, the Arc Maxim is the goat. Even the name is cool as hell.
Ships and island designs are some of my favorite aspects of one piece so you have no idea how happy i am to watch this video. Thank you so much for making it ❤
HOLY CRAP memory unlocked!!! Any other fellow Long Islanders here who grew up in the 90s would remember that ship docked in Port Jefferson Harbor. It was a VERY popular pirate attraction. I remember how STARK red everything was. Dude you just blew my MIND. It no longer is a thing anymore to my knowledge
been wanting someone to discuss the ships for ages from my intial scourings of one piece's fandom, nobody seems to talk about the vehicles, which are characters in and of themselves!
It’s crazy how Oda clearly has built so much lore and planning for Urouge, only for him to be the one Worst Generation member that we know nothing about. But if Bonney on Egghead is any indicator, we might get some interesting developments on Urouge in the near future (maybe on Elbaf?)
Awesome video, brother. I did want to say something, though. This is purely for educational purposes and in no way is meant to criticize your incredible content. The word 'Forecastle,' is pronounced 'Folk-Sul'. (Source: Former U.S. Navy Sailor)
Good to know, thank you brother. I noticed some charts annotating it that way, and was confused about the pronunciation so that clears up a lot. Very much appreciated 💪🏻
I love how Fisher Tiger’s ship looks almost like a Fish with Nika’s swirling cloud-like hair. These small details, of how a character meant to parallel the philosophies of a past Joyboy candidate, and how he truly embodied Joyboy. Whether knowingly or unknowingly.
🎶 track? It’s *Bossa for Noa* by *Gustav Lundgren, Martin Landström* - and yes we are THRILLED to be your trusted provider. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tzwOEmonU_k.html // Epidemic Sound
"do you guys wanna see that non canon video?" Hidden, I speak for all of us when I say, we wanna see any and every video you wanna put out ever. You GOAT
1:03:25 I think we have the Celestial Dragons to thank for that, they are actively preventing common folks on having better technology so they can rule over them, even the Marines don't get full advantage of the technological monopoly the Celestial Dragons have they got turreted canons like in WW2 era battleships but still have sails as their main propulsion.
You talked about certain ships like the flying dutchman which shouldn’t have oars. I rekon that most pirates in the world of one piece will have oars or some other method of movement other than sails as if you enter the calm belt and don’t have a way to move your ship without wind you are immediately screwed.
You forgot the new flagship of crossguild, big top blaster, as well as not touching on germa kingdom, which i treat as a ship. Other than that, splendid video. You clearly did your research. I forgot that one of my favourite characters gangster gastino had a balon ship lmao
Pleeeease consider doing more than one video every two months. Your videos are some of my absolute favorites to watch. Probably the favorite if I had more of them to enjoy. Love the content man keep up the good work good work!
Laws polar tang was my favourite, its such a good idea for law especially to use a sub. Whitebeards ship is also one of my favourites, befitting for the worlds strongest man
Fascinating video, so much effort and work. It was fun to see all the different ships in comparison. A small note about Eustass Kids ship, personally I would describe it as medium-sized and not small. In the manga panel where he encourages Luffy & Law to jump with their ships from the Wano waterfall, you can see that his ship is/was more than twice as big as the Sunny, Law's polar tank is like the size of the dinosaur skull on it's Front & with 31 crew members, he also has a rather larger crew by OnePiece standards.
This is one of my favorite One peice videos I've ever watched. Shows how mush thought and care Oda put into these ships, which are usually only seen in only a few panels, and the way they tie back to their captains is simply genius. Thank you for making this video, I've learned so much and my appreciation for One piece grew even more. You deserve many many more views, earned my Sub
42:55 No the submarines still need the coating. The shark submarine on board the sunny couldn't reach fishmen island, as it is at a incredible debt. Only coated vessels can go that deep in general. Submarines brobably do enjoy a larger freedom of movement going to and from fishmen island though.
52:02 the name of the ship actually derives from the word "castello" (which means castle in italian as you said in the video) + "cosa nostra", one of the many famous mafia families in Italy, specifically from Sicily.
About why nobody uses a submarine. Please remember that, to cross the Red Line, you need to get to Fishman Island. Which is about 10 km underwater. And thus you need a VERY tough ship to even get near those depths. Even in our world we don't have the right technology to accomplish that completely.
Loved this video! Great job making such specific ship terminology and breakdowns entertaining as hell! I'd love a breakdown video of the non-canon ships! As for my favorite...going to have to go with Bartolomeo's ship. Mostly because I love his fanboyness for Loofs.
Not sure if you or anyone said this, but nagelfar(swedish spelling) is a ship in the nordiska mythos that is built by the nails of everyone that has died. It is said to set sail when ragnarök is unleashed and carries the jötunns to valhalla to fight in the last battle
I'm going to tell you that you need to look up the definition of the word "ancestor," because like many, you are using it to mean the exact opposite of what it means. The word you were looking for was "descendant."
Buggy has a new boat now, he made one for the cross guild but his crew made it clowny. we dont know its name yet but we see it before buggy gets beat up and declares he wants the one piece too
One thing about hidden is he will always put out quality no matter the topic, loved this video hoping to use it as a reference for my DND campaign, been trying to decide what our ship should look like. Timely drop my guy.
Even if that wasn't a fantastic and highly entertaining video(which it was), I would have loved it for the Mankind reference alone. It's next to impossible at this point given how crazy powerful everyone is, but I would like one big naval battle before the series ends.
Great video as always! I just wanted to point out one thing The part about Law and his submarine, and why pirates don’t all use it. It was addressed in the story that submarines can’t go lower than 5000 metres, and only coated ships can go as deep as the fish an island.
3:58 One correction about waterproofing: you don't necessarily have to add a water proof layer before putting a boat in water! It's common for wooden boats to leak a little bit. Any uncoated gaps will soak up water, making the wood expand and close the gap. That's also the reason why wood is used even in modern damage control. Also, modern boats often are more complex than a bowl in terms of buoyancy. To prevent sinking purely due to the weather, bags or chambers are sealed with air inside. The main thing which sinks boats and ships these days is failure of the sealed bags or chambers
If Franky, the guy who turned himself into a cyborg, and Iceburg, the guy who wants to turn the island of Water 7 into a ship to make the island float over the sea during the Aqua Laguna, the same guys who saw the construction of 3 sea trains (Rocket Man, Puffing Tom and Puffing Ice) say that Pluton doesn't even seem possible to realize looking at the blueprints they had with them their whole lives, I kinda believe them. Pluton has to be some really crazy ship. I mean there has to be a reason Kaido never picked up from underground Wano, probably he couldn't understand how that shit even worked to begin with
Not mentioned in the sailing terms: Port and Starboard, or Left and Right, respectively. The easiest way to remember which is which: Port and Left are both shorter words than Starboard and Right. There are many anecdotal stories for why they are called that, but none of them have solid historical fact. Such as you only 'go to port' or dock your ship on the left side, but that has never been any kind of rule or standardized practice. RIP the Going Luffy-senpai. Loved that ridiculous ship.
A ship called the Flying Dutchman, located at Fishman island, essentially land under water, is hilarious to me when the Netherlands, home of the Dutch, is a country located below sea level
