I was adopted but recently connected with my birth mother. She told me that she had planned to name me Andromeda. I just love that. Would not have been wearable back when I was born, but I think it is now. Meanwhile I use it for my sassy alter-ego.
See, that’s a good compromise, and as cool as that name is, it would have been at least a lot harder for you to find jobs (that aren’t stripping or hooking type jobs) wish unusual names like that were more acceptable though
I used Evander and I get so many compliments and so far everyone can read it and spell it. Love that we were brave enough to use it. Got the idea from one of your videos!
It was going to be my sons name but I asked my husband to read it before I told him the name and he pronounced it as Evan-der and not Eh-Van- der . Love it though
My baby’s name is Lavinia- I wouldn’t have been brave enough, but my husband loved it! I’m surprised at how many people have never heard of it- I think it’s known a bit more in the UK. People are surprised by it when they hear it, but when we tell them her nickname is Vinnie they all think that’s cute 😊
as a gymnastics coach and a name enthusiast (i’m a writer not a mother currently aha), it’s always interesting when i come across names i can’t stand (especially when they belong to naughty children…), but similarly, i’ve found a lot of names i love from my job, such as clementine and olive! who were luckily also very pleasant natured young girls who left me with a good name association!
Atlas is the name of a Greek Mythological character. He was cursed to hold up the heaven and is often depicted holding the world on his shoulders. Atlantic and Atlantis are from the character Atlas meaning "sea of Atlas" and "island of Atlas." A collection of maps was first called an atlas in the late 1500s. So, there's a little history in case you want to use the name and folks think you're naming your child after an object. BTW - my guilty pleasure is Fairlight.
Frédérique is a common girl name here in Quebec!! Lovely video SJ, so happy to see you in back in your element sorting through all our baby names 😅😅 Looking lovely as always xx
Meabh, Astrid, Loxlie & Salem are names i loved for a girl. But they were vetoed by everyone lol And for boys, Seamus, Fox, Beau, Caspian, Gus and Gideon ❤️ just beautiful Also, my Grandmother's were named Beulah and Oma Jean which i think are unusual and beautiful!
Calliope is my daughter's name, she was born in March this year. I absolutely love it, but no one has ever heard of it when we tell them her name and we get a lot of weird looks 😂 hardly anyone has told us they like it, so this makes me feel better!
Mine is Meadowlark possibly with Mel as a nickname. The bird has a sentimental connection for me so it's still very much on my middle name list, my current combo for it is Lucy Meadowlark.
I only know this because of the song "What Else Can I Do?" from Encanto, lol - I believe with Jacaranda, the J is pronounced more like an H, so Hah-cuh-ran-duh 😊
To whoever submitted the name Cordelia, you should definitely go for it! I named my daughter Cordelia 2 months ago, and we get compliments on it all the time! The name I submitted for this list was Adrasteia! 💖
So many of my favorites are on here (team Thisbe reporting for duty!) I hope lists like these help people to have the courage to use the names they really love by seeing that loads if other people love them too. 💖
So many cool names! I’m past the baby naming stage of life so at this point I think my interest in baby names is a guilty pleasure in and of itself, haha! My top guilty pleasure name of all time is Augusta nn Gus. That was my great aunt’s name. I adored her and her name! At the moment I’m really into old man nicknames on girls. Bertie, Charlie, Teddy, etc.
I really like Emrys, Remy, Genevieve, Amaryllis, Ursula, Ebenezer and Lazslo. Some others that I would put on this list are Leolin, Consuelo, Sheila, Heather, Isabeau, Evenor, Cordelia and Azalais.
I heard the name lockett on one of your covid lists back when I was pregnant with my first. Now I'm having my third boy and I'm finally going to use it, we love it but I really feel like I'll have to fight for people to not question me. Hopefully I stand my ground this time, baby due in spring.
Honestly, it’s only because it sounds like locket, which is fine, it actually makes a nice name and has the luck sound in it too, and shouldn’t be too hard for him to be taken seriously as a grown man I think, so good luck
I wanted Tuesday or Delta for a girl and my husband shot both of the names down VERY quickly. I also love Ottilie ❤ Ledger was our boy name but we had a sweet girl!
Lol you’re the one doing all the hard work for 9 months you name them! I’ll never understand how people let their partners decide and dictate a name when all they had to do was blow 😉
@@Lilitu333 I did the a lot of the work, but he was there every step of the way making sure that I didn’t go through any of the hard stuff alone. We went through so much to conceive her. We then had a high risk pregnancy after losing two pregnancies prior and he didn’t miss a single second of it or appointment. She will be our one and only because of our difficulties. I couldn’t possibly imagine choosing a name that he hated just because he couldn’t carry our child due to biological reasons beyond his control. He found the girl name we went with so he told me to pick the boy name. She is OUR baby- not just mine. I couldn’t imagine being that selfish for someone who was so gracious and selfless while I was having difficulties during pregnancy.
Surprised that Persephone didn't come up for girls. I think it needs to rise in popularity like Penelope and Calliope. But what's a cool nickname, Sephie maybe? And the coolest boy names I heard in this list were Evren and Ledger.
I was so excited for this video 🤣 I submitted Aurora and Maddox, I would potentially actually use Aurora but Maddox just sounds way too cool and like it belongs to a rock star’s child 😂
Speaking of brave middle names, I had my baby boy this summer and named him Jasper Peregrine! Not quite brave enough to use it as a first name but we love both and how they sound together! Everyone seems to love both when we tell them his name and many are surprised by Peregrine!
Xochitl is a Nahuatl word for flower and is used mainly among indigenous Mexican people. Its not a name I would use w/o a connection to that culture. Its super pretty though.
Hi! I'm from Brazil and I don't have children yet, but if I ever have a girl I want to name her Clarissa, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this name, but EVERYONE I tell that says they hate that name and that it would be mixed up with "Clarisse/Clarice" 😢
I’ve never seen the name “Bronwyn” come up on your name lists. What do we think of it? I’d say it’s probably a guilty pleasure if mine but I know I’d never get to use it.
I literally added Mocci to my list lol. You make every word or name sound so pretty 😂😂 Also here are some of my favorites that I have come across in the two years I have worked in daycare: D'zyre ( b) Shamiah ( g) Johel ( b) Gael ( b) Isabella ( g) Harmony (g) Lyric ( g) Briar ( b) ( u) Athena ( g) Abimael ( b) Bella ( g) Kayson ( b) Zarriah (g) Elijah ( b) Joanna ( g) Lane ( b) Saylor ( g) ( u) Naelahni ( g) Korra (g) Freya ( g) Nova ( g) Kambria ( g) Hope ( g) Sterling ( b) Alarik ( b) Zacarius ( b) Leonidas ( b) Jaxon ( b) Joleigha (g) Ellie ( g) Henry ( b) Ivan ( b) Angie ( g) Maydel ( g) Josiah ( b) Zane ( b) King ( b) Olen ( b) Jadriel ( b) Luther ( b) Wayd ( b) Mayette ( g) Ezekiel ( b) Danaysha ( g) Stella ( g) Terrance ( b) Melody ( g) Auriah (g) Gabriel ( b) Rowan ( b) Kordell ( b) Scarlett ( g) Serenity ( g) Grant ( b) Terriana ( g) Giavanna ( g) Nazir ( b) Mason ( b) Deacan ( b) Paisley ( g) Daylin (b) Nycola ( b) Envvie ( g) Prim ( g) Casper ( b) Peyton( b) Prince ( b) Connor ( b) Zayden ( b) Marvin ( b) Corbin ( b) Keljin (b) Claudia ( g) Cozy ( b) Draxten (b) Ezra ( b) Mia ( g) Makaila ( g)
SJ I’ve watched this video several times because the names don’t always sink in the first time around, but if no one’s said it yet, please DO BRAVE MIDDLES video! Love brave and guilty pleasure lists.
Lots of great names, Emrys was a favourite on my list but I have an Idris so thought it might be too similar. I love Ziggy but my husband wasn’t having that at all. I loved Ezekiel for my second son but wasn’t feeling brave when it came down to it so went with Ezra.
I want to talk to you about names, seems like we have similar styles.. I have a Molly, Finn, Fox, Arwen, Enid and Rowan Ivy. I am currently pregnant with a girl- do you think Liriel would fit alright with these names?
Eponine is a favorite of mine and I would use it if I was having a girl. An alternative name meaning instead of horse goddess is eternal love. Just epic
Our guilty pleasure boy names were Ezio and Makai or Makaio. We also like Arden, but hate how similar it sounds to harden. Our guilty pleasure girl names were Skylaina(people DESPISED this one), Sereia, and Rio. Lately I've also been loving Runa
I would have thought Ceridwen would have a soft c sound because the c is followed by an e like in celery, center, cement, etc. It sounds pretty both ways!
My cats names are Clementine & Juniper and I currently walk a dog called Olive. I loved Clementine for a baby but my husband said no🤣 so it became our kittens name. A lot of guilty pleasure names I have I think I’ll end up using them for pets! One of my all time favourite names is Atlas. I’m not sure it flows well with our surname…
I rescued my dog when pregnant and named her Darling and when I had my daughter I was so sad that I had already used it for my dog as wanted to use it for my daughter 😂 she is such a Darling!!!! She is Clementine and I didn’t think it was an unusual name at all but people say all the time they’ve never heard of a Clementine! I usually get lovely comments on it though! I also have a cat called Tigerlily 😂 xx
I guess you could go with the name Winifred and then use the nickname of Fred, I think they had a female character who had that name and nickname on the tv show Angel
My daughter's name is Athena. 💙 Anyone who's not sure if they should name their daughter Athena... do it! We get nothing but compliments about how pretty and unique it is, but it's not so difficult of a name to get looks or people stumbling to pronounce it. We also named our son Kalel, pronounced like Kal-El (kal like in Calvin, el like in elf). I really wish we had hyphenated it because people pronounce it kuh-lil and it drives both me and him CRAZY.
My guilty pleasure names for girls would be Avonlea and Eowyn. My daughter's name is Riannon. My guilty pleasure name for a boy is Theodore Abel, because it would sound like "The adorable", but I already have a name I've had picked out since I was 18 or 19 for a boy.
I love unisex names, such as Toby / Angel / Morgan / Quinn. For a girl, I love classic names like Elizabeth / Grace / Heather / Rose / Jemima / Laurel / Vivienne / Bethany. For a boy, I love shorter names like Leo / Ivan / Asa / Bo. My most guilty pleasure name for a boy is Maurice, and some cultures pronounce it like Morris. My most guilty pleasure names for a girl are Augustine and Shoshannah ... and Henriette, pronounced On Ree Ett.
My oldest sons name is Felix ❤ but I live in Oklahoma. So I don't associate it with any labels. LOL We did, however, sing the Felix the Cat theme song when he was a baby.
My husband and I are struggling to find multicultural boy names (Turkish and American). Atlas is very popular in Turkey now so we can't use it. I am so hoping for a girl because we love the names Peri (fairy in Turkish), Alpha, Safiye, Rose (my grandmother's name), Ayla (eye-la), Juniper, or Jupiter. We are okay with names that aren't popular and would like to double barrel like Alpha-Rose or Ayla-Juniper...naming a human is stressful but fun!
My 6mth old son's name is Cornelius!! We get a lot of comments about "what are you going to call him" or "kids at school are going to struggle with that". Well we got 5 and 4 year old foster kids that called him Camellius for a while, but now they say it correctly after a couple months of exposure and they never once tried to nickname him Corny! So sometimes I think it's the adults that get it wrong or overthink things. We have had some comments from people really loving his name, but I was just surprised at the number of people who asked what we'd call him. I didn't think it was an out there crazy name and my husband is the one who suggested it and he's more traditional. Had to add that my sister really likes Demelza and I think it would be fantastic!
Athenais is a primarily French name and variant of Athena. Can be tricky to pronounce without the accents though. I wouldn’t go for Nemo- it means ‘no one’
I love Murphy! My guilty pleasure names are Halston, Britain, and Wesley (all for girls). I also really like Darcy for a boy (for Mr. Darcy of course). Margot is my #1 girls name but my cousins just used it 😢
