The real reason you become a longtime fan is most likely because of their personalities, that's why they are particularly attentive to their fans. You have the same phenomenon in the West actually, when our moms like a male singer for a long time, it's not for his songs only, but for his charisma.

But isn't it disappointing seeing exo not do as well as BTS though they're on the same level? Yt views, Spotify monthly listeners, streams, etc. It's just not comparable. If EXO had a concert would they be selling out stadiums like BTS. It feels like the fandom is dying (shrinking). Even BigBang achieved higher mv views on yt than EXO along one of IKon's songs

@@LovelyLittleLillies Personally I don't care about views. I think that most views are empty and inflated and I don't have the time or desire to get involved with stream farms. Touring is the only tangible way to tell if an artist is actually successful anymore because many artists have millions of views but can't sell a concert ticket and then on the other hand many artists have less views and can sell out a show easily. Look at Jackson Wang, many people laughed at him when he announced his Magic Man tour, but his concerts ended up selling out in many locations worldwide with 15-20k audience per show. I attended his Barclay Center show in April and there were over 20k New Yorkers of all different races, genders, and backgrounds singing his songs word for word. Trust me, having a real supportive fanbase like that versus mass streams is way better. Plus, BTS's international success is because HYBE was forward-thinking in marketing them internationally from the beginning of their career while SM focused on marketing EXO to Asia. As a New Yorker, BTS has always had more visibility here even before they became famous here simply because of Hybe's marketing. If SM had invested in the international market sooner then it would be a different story but if we are being honest the EXO members don't seem very interested at all anyway. They seem quite comfortable with their success and are more interested in solo comebacks, acting, and other stuff at the moment. And the older/mature side of the fanbase like myself is ok with that.
