After realising how much money I'd have saved in the past two years if electric scooters were legal on UK roads, I decided to take matters into my own hands and get in touch with the Mayor of London to try and persuade him to change things...

This government won't legalise escooters because they would save people lots of time and money which is not any concern for someone running the country, they're not at all bothered about the environment,,,,Period...Thank you Electroheads, if only our government were as concerned as we all are..

You’re missing the point. RU-vid channels that reference the mayor, and ULEZ too, in a negative light get lots of traction and clicks. Can you imagine how much of a vote winner it would be if groups of zombie knife wielding youth roamed around London on cheap scooters? The UK isn’t France or the Netherlands. People won’t wear high vis. I suspect someone had a word with whoever is responsible for transport and advised them it would be an absolute sh*t show if these things were everywhere. The trial makes sense.

@chukidee6634
@chukidee6634 Год назад
@@KiranMachiraju That would sure alienate the rest of the country. I'm sure such 'ordinance' would still have to set out the standards and restrictions which the manufacturers of private e-scooters must still abide by. A London-only 'ordinance' is too provincial. Other big cities such as Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool would get upset lol.

I live in Canterbury, where we had a scooter trial, I have to admit, I only used one once, for a journey of about 2 miles, but I stuck to the roads, and felt safe. The reason that the trial failed in Canterbury, was because of riders who used the scooters on pedestrianised areas, there were a few people (mainly elderly) that suffered injuries through poor riding, but still, more people were injured by cycles over the same trial period. The thing is, cycles are legal, so the scooters got the heave ho (unfairly) Scooters will get a bad rep, because they are still new, and people don't like new, we see it with electric cars as well. Hopefully, you get your meeting, and things change. I am unlikely to ride a scooter ever again, but I want others to use them, it benefits everyone, including me.

It is nuts. Develop highway code for their behaviour as per cycles, legislate for safety features to allow safe arm signalling and enforce battery managment, bells, etc. Job done: no pavements or pedestrianised zones, they can use cycle lanes and must behave like cycles at all times. Its just not a problem!!! I dont even own one, im a driver and pedestrian but what a nonsense to restrict them to private land. Theyre just cycles in terms of road usage.

I only use mine to about 3 times a week max and do 7 miles 3 times per week MAX depending on weather as I haven't got a IP rated scooter. How ever I can't drive and can't afford to travel all those miles as its 2 different bus companies to get from my house classed as Doncaster my dad's only 3.5 miles away is classed as Rotherham. Anyhow cut a long story short he lost most of his site to glaucoma 4 years ago and relied on my older brother who did drive "cost him a ton in fuel" a hell of a lot. Anyway my older brother lost his life 2 months ago and now I rely on my scooter to go and help him out. So if the police do take my scooter 'I will buy a car ILLEGALLY and drive it like 100s 1000s of people do, and I will tell the police officer that does take my scooter what I will do

Was thinking that e-tubes for e-wheel and bikes would be a worthwhile thing to make for places like London. I realize they would be expensive so started working on how they could be made to pay their way. A number of things come to mind, specifically delivery and especially food delivery. To achieve this a separate track could be installed along the ceiling where autonomous delivery devices could ride. The amount of deliveries made in London must be huge so lowering their cost while delivering them faster is a huge win. The side benefit of e-wheelers getting 24x7x365 clean/dry/safe transit tubes is a bonus! Right on with the campaign, I would suggest e-wheel training/classes and licenses as well. Also renewed car licenses and training for how to drive with e-wheelers/bikes. Thanks for the great editing work as well!

I see there are numbers for injuries caused to e-scooter riders by motor vehicles, but how about injuries caused by them to pedestrians? I’m seeing near misses on a daily basis by them being ridden flat out on footpaths. Even when on roads it’s generally with total disregard for the highway code. I think the scooters are fine but do need some kind of regulation as has been previously mentioned re France

Also , saw an electrician take a scooter out of his van and off to work. Probably avoiding the congestion charge the government has imposed on everyone. And now they want another congestion charge? Also what if there's another transport strike?

@pauld7827
@pauld7827 Год назад
Just to set the scene, I have changed my thoughts over the past couple of years or so and now have Solar Panels and an EV. However, I do now believe that EV's are not as 'clean' as is being advertised by the government and that 'Net Zero' is more a way to extract taxes and restrict free movement. Also, not everyone can afford to go 'green' unless there are cheaper options available. It is absolutely crazy that 125cc motorcycles are being banned. These provide affordable transport for people to get to work to earn money and pay taxes. They are an efficient way to deliver food, medication and other items. I followed a 125 scooter delivering blood just yesterday. What is the alternative, when this ban comes into force? The obvious alternatives are electric cycles and scooters. However, I do think that you must have training and pass some sort of test and get a license for these. After all, they do have the potential to cause serious injury to both the rider and others. Also, you must 'follow the rules of the road' even on a scooter. With that in mind, compulsory insurance and some sort of registration (with a visible means of identifying the rider or machine) is needed to ensure that they are used sensibly and that any damage or injury to others is covered. Obviously, it is necessary to ensure that the law is being observed.

One big problem is that we don't operate like people in European countries. Very few people here know how to ride on the road, so they use the pavement. When the infrastructure does exist, many don't bother using it because they feel it's quicker for them to use the pavement, or stay on the road, or even ride the wrong direction on the road etc. In European countries like France, Netherlands etc, you get fined for not wearing the gear, not using cycle lanes etc but here no one gives a toss, so it's a free for all on the road. I ride an e-bike every day, I love it but let's be honest, how many ebikes on the road are 250w or less, restricted to 15mph support and have no twist and go function? Not many. I hope they put in some good legislation, open it up, increase power outputs, introduce higher power outputs that come with training / insurance requirements etc. Then enforce the law to remove as many bellends from the road (and pavements) as possible, regardless of their mode of transport.

It’s not the government that demonises e-scooters; it’s the few inconsiderate people who ride them irresponsibly. They have jeopardised any chance of them being made legal. Also, if they were to be made legal, then e-bikes should be able to be propelled with just a throttle. As in USA class 3 e-bikes: 28mph with pedal assist and 20 mph with a throttle.

its going in the right direction But 85% of people wont commute on E-Anything in wintry weather (FACT) I commute 30 miles 50km on my 250w E-bike throughout winter and i am just about sick of the wind & rain and the cold right now so even i have been using the train to travel these last couple of weeks into London and the bike lane system in this city is pretty crap for example Westminster bridge cycle lane becomes a tourist sitting area in summer and many cycle lanes just end , leaving me on dangerous bits of road and the Mayor who is a real Nightmare will only employ money making schemes . would all of the cheap scooters you recommend Pass stringent safety checks I would definitely pick a Scooter over an E-bike and the beauty of E- transport is that when you encounter traffic you can hop off and navigate around it . Big fan of the channel it was because of the channels review of the Volt London E-bike that i went a got one in September last year and have currently covered 2800 miles /4500Km all the best Electroheads

Although the mayor can’t make e-scooters legal he could tell the police not to prioritise prosecution and confiscations except for those being ridden recklessly.

Real talk guys. If eye lash left electroheads and started making content for her own channel your viewing data would take a dive and tall eye would make enough money to wear clean white sneakers. Count your ruddy blessings you have her. Also one point against Billie is she really was unfair to that van driver when we all know her friend was at fault, mostly for being her friend. Thanks all. Be lucky.

I have a Solar P1 I bought for a literal mobility scooter, as in poor breathing, poor walking ability, I have anxiety riding it due to the law yet have full car and motorcycle license and road sense. Surely the law is impacting on my human rights? It is not the escooter, the moped, the e bike, the skateboard, the one wheel, that are dangerous it is the user, a car kills someone every day but is obviously legal. Do we just take all the limiting of our lives, the soon to be trialled 15 minute cities, having a fixed number of journeys per year we are granted/allowed to take? Or do we say, sorry enough is enough and actually start to claw back our freedoms. My grandads brother fought in WW1 in the machinegun corps, he lost most of his friends there and believed he was protecting future generations so they would have a freer life. Look how corrupted the law as become, one law for us and a big ignore the law from them, the gov. Sorry but I have had it with being subservient. Respect

I wanted to use the escooter rental scheme for the last few miles of my commute into York city centre. Unfortunately the nearest scooters are 15 minutes walk from the park and ride car park, they’re also the same cost as just taking a taxi the same distance!

Didn’t the belated Queen mention in her speech that scooters would be reviewed during the year 2022-2023. Has this happened ? Did the government only see fit that “rented” scooters are okay on our roads just not ones you can buy yourself.

Friends of the Earth, ClientEarth and the Good Law Project have taken the government to court over climate change inaction. They may be willing to help legalise e-scooters.
