I Ate Nothing But Pound Shop Food for 48 Hours

I've tried living on £1 a day! How about going to the pound shop? In this case - Poundland! I challenged myself to eat nothing but Poundland food for 48 hours.
Poundland is a great shop - one I haven't been to in ages. Plenty of different things to get there, be it clothes, toys, cleaning essentials and even food! There was a really decent selection there - although nothing viable for a full food shop and I tried my best to not stick to branded goods, just things that you might only find in Poundland, and I think I did quite well!
At the time of Editing, I realised that a RU-vidr I'm a big fan of has just done pretty much this exact video, but over in the USA! Would highly recommend watching it and checking out ‪@therealsamreid‬ - great RU-vidr and great watch! Guess you could call this video inspired by him now!
Great amount of choice here, shop came up at a bit more expensive then I would have hoped, but either way, Poundland is much better than I remember.
Hope you enjoy!

As an ex-pat who has been living State-side for almost 15 years now, I was thrilled to experience my first visit to Poundland when I flew back to the UK in August. Your video is bringing back memories of my UK summer, thank you! Totally on your side when it comes to coffee! Soak the gammon for an hour or so beforehand and it really helps reduce the saltiness!

Our regular meals: Congee (just keep cooking rice in a light stock until it breaks down into a rice porridge really!) Shan tofu (chickpea flour, water, salt - cook the crap out of it and then put it in a container to set. I usually bake it in cubes with pepper and spices) Watermelon rind story fry (peel off the green skin from the rind, cut up the rind finely, boil it and then fry it with onion, carrot, other veg with garlic, ginger, soy sauce and a bit of mirin. Serve over rice with sesame oil.)

Breakfast bites, one of my favorite budget recipes. Fry up some bacon, like half a 1lb pack of rashers, or even better those cheap bacon pieces, just chop em up! (IMPORTANT! - Keep the bacon fat for later on in the recipe, don't throw it away!) Chop the bacon into small pieces and let cool. While the bacon is cooling, whisk up a few eggs, add a splash of milk, salt and pepper and any other seasonings you like to taste. Grate a couple of ounces of cheese and whisk into the egg mix ( If you like it extra cheesy and can afford to splurge, sprinkle some Parmesan in too.) Add the chopped up bacon pieces and mix well. Coat individual muffin trays with the bacon grease you saved previously, and then pour in the eggie cheesy bacony 'batter' to each individual tray, filling each one to about three quarters full. Top with extra cheese if you have it, and then bake in the oven at about 350 degrees until they begin to brown and a knife pulls out clean. They will puff up considerably while baking, but will deflate when they cool, that's normal. These "brekkie bites" can be frozen for several weeks and used as needed! Great budget breakfast or great to add to lunchboxes!

For milk. 1 tin of evaporated milk (cheap supermarket brand) and 500ml of water. That is how the GF likes it and that makes 1L. For me that is way to thick so add 750ml. You can also use them to make yogurt. Very simple just need a warm place and a starter. I used Yeo Valley Natural Yogurt as my starter. Once you made your first batch take some of that and put into the ice tray and freeze. Then when you want to make another batch to pop in some of the frozen yogurt cubes. I just pour in a 410G can of Evaporated Milk with 500ml of water into a 1L mason jar with 3 tablespoons of Yeo Valley Natural Yogurt. Boil a kettle and put the jar into a pot and fill it a little with boiling water. After 10hrs you have yogurt. Its that easy to make.

My favourite Dish I make . Lime and Coriander Chicken (can be eaten hot or cold) Served with boiled jersey new potatoes with a knob of salted butter, with a salad. Served cold . It is lovely on buttered crusty bread . Or sliced with hot chips and sweetcorn . Ingredients . 4 Breasts of Chicken (can add more chicken add more vegetable oil.) 2 fresh limes squeezed . Lime juice 4 table spoons if you dont have fresh. Half a clove of garlic (crushed/chopped finely) Can use garlic paste. 2 green chilli peppers (chopped finely) You can use red if you have no green REMOVE SEEDS Bunch of Coriander (finely Chopped) Fresh Vegetable Oil 4 Tbsp (The veggie oil is to combine the marinade together so up to you how much oil you wish to use. Just dont use too much) Place lime juice, the crushed or finely chop garlic, finely chopped chillies, finely chopped coriander into a bowl . Dont forget to remove the seeds from the chillies . Add vegetable oil to combine the ingredient's in the bowl. Add the breasts of chicken to the bowl , making sure the marinade is covering the chicken. Cover and place in the fridge for 24 hours or you can put the marinade and chicken in a sealy bag. If you have a food processor to do all the fine chopping , this marinade can be whipped up extremely fast . Depending on the size of your chicken breasts and the oven . Pre heat oven to a Medium heat . Middle shelf Place the chicken into a heat proof dish . Scoop out the marinade on to the top of each individual breasts of chicken . Gas mark 5 , 180 degrees . 45 to 50 maybe more. Check there are no bloody bits. Let the chicken rest for 5 to ten minutes. You can make individual foil parcels. The last twenty minute open the parcel so the top crisps up slightly . Close the parcel back up again when you pull them out so none of the juice escape. Moist and juicy chicken . It is not really a spicy dish either . Even the kids have eaten this and loved it .

Nice meal ideas. Something i cook (in bulk, so i can freeze it and don't have to cook for a bit) on a regular basis: Tacomix on a regular piece of bread with ranchdressing. Construded of a bag tacomixherbs, minced meat, chopped up bell peppers, leek, corn and whatever i can throw in there. And on the side some cucumber for freshness.

I really enjoyed the video even tho I'm not from the UK and have never been in a poundland before. My comfort meal is basically pasta with butter and cinnamon but one of my favorite meals at the moment is a tofu tortilla- you cut a few cherry tomatoes and a some garlic and fry it in a pan with some oil, then add grated tofu(around 150 grams) for spices I use salt, veggie soup powder and shawarma seasoning. When the tofu is ready, set it aside and put a tortilla on the pan so it warms up, then add some tofu on one side and close it. The amount is enough for 2 tortillas, I eat it with some avocado slices and a little lemon juice

I've recently been making a meal I don't have a name for... It's Potatoes fried in a bit of butter (Plant based) with onions, mushrooms, garlic and plant based chicken. I top it off with some other plant based cheese and then bake it in the oven. I don't have timings etc as I just wing it! Herbs and spices are transferable also! for comfort food I tend to go for a mushroom stroganoff with about 3/4 types of mushroom in it

TIme for my favourite comfort food Big Scotch eggs First boil as many eggs as you want to eat, and once hardboiled peel them and place them to the side Next skin some sausages and wrap the eggs in a layer of sausage meat, making sure the eggs are fully covered place the sausage wrapped eggs to the side Now, make a load of breadcrumbs and leave them in a bowl on the side After this, get 2 or 3 eggs and crack them into a bowl, then whisk them with a fork to break the yolk Coat the sausage covered eggs in the egg yolk and then cover them in bread crumbs Once each one is fully covered in a good layer of breadcrumbs, place them in the oven I usually put them into the oven with a heat of 180 degrees on a fan oven, and leave them for 20 minutes and they should be done

This video was very enjoyable! I love how you explained everything. You make me smile a lot. Today was a rough day and this made me pass some time while studying. I have two recipes to recommend for you. Beef Wellington and Dolmeh. They are two dishes that my mom would make me each time I passed really hard exams! Beef Wellington was for when I passed my chemistry exams. She would always make it so tender! She was the perfect cook for it. Dolmeh was for when I passed my biotech exams. She would make it so tasty I would drool everywhere! I hope you make them, I would love seeing that again as my mom passed away and I am not a very good cook, so I love seeing people make those dishes and have a good time like I did back then with her.

That is a really good store! Here 🇨🇦 we have dollarama and we don’t get even close to half of what you have at poundland. Any food items are dry goods. We don’t have any frozen or refrigerated items. I don’t understand it because they would for sure sell out. Make something else from poundland, like a pizza or some nice pasta dish, but make it from scratch. Good luck and may the force be with you. ❤

Since I'm from Boston, I'll say Boston baked beans. Pretty much every recipe is very close, but here's the ingredients list from the recipe I have bookmarked: 1 pound (2 to 2 1/4 cups) dry white beans such as Navy beans or Great Northern beans (can also use kidney beans) 1/3 cup molasses 1/3 cup brown sugar 3 to 4 tablespoons Dijon mustard 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves 3 cups hot water 1/2 pound salt pork (can sub bacon), cut into 1/2-inch to 1-inch pieces 1 medium onion, (1 1/2 cups) chopped I soak the beans overnight, then cook the bacon and onions until cooked through, then throw everything into a slow cooker for 6-8 hours, covered over the top with aluminum foil (to prevent drying out). You can also cook them in the oven in a covered dish.

Ground Beef with either rice or pasta, and to keep things cheap she used canned veggies: corn, green beans, and diced tomatoes. And however much water to cover the pasta with. And whatever seasoning she had on hand. Made the pasta version today cause of being sick. Quick and simple to make.
