A lot of people overlook the exhausting choreography of Yui and Moa. Over the years, they both took serious stage falls...including Yui literally falling off the stage at Budokan. It is amazing that both Yui and Moa didn't have career ending injuries. Sadly, at the end of her time with Babymetal, Yui was wearing an obvious back brace. Then, due to unspecified medical issues, she left the band. At right around the same time, guitarist Mikio died in a tragic accident. They were just so star-crossed at that time. Su and Moa were asked if they wanted to disband; they chose to stay as a Duo, with several girls filling in Yui's missing part. It is important to remember that Yui was never replaced officially. The lore just changed to fit the circumstance. It is important to remember that these three girls grew up together...and Yui and Moa were more like sisters than band-mates, with onee-san Su looking over them.

I'd describe this as "classic babymetal" just because it has Yui in it...She left the group in 2017/18 for health reasons and BM is now Su-metal and Moametal. The interesting thing is that although she has not made any public appearances for 5 years she remains under contract to Amuse (BM's corporate owner) which leads to speculation about what she's doing and her future. In this concert Moa and Yui are 15 and Su is 17 so they are still kids and we should always be sensitive to the possibility of children being exploited. I think all 3 genuinely wanted to perform and Amuse seems to have a good reputation for being careful with it's child stars, but maybe burnout and physical break down was part of why Yui had to leave. Now that Su and Moa are in their 20's hopefully it should not be as much of a worry. "Road of Resistance" is about fighting and resisting even if you can't see the way ahead and it reminds us that there are things worth fighting for - and against, so it's an appropriate song for the times. This was the song that sold me on BM because I ended it as an emotional wreck. They take you from one pinnacle to another and just keep on going. But for me the real hero of this song is the drummer, Hideki Aoyama, I think this song averages over 200 BPM. I wonder what's the collective number of calories expended by BM and the Kami Band in this performance. The song has a strong "Dragonforce vibe" because Dragonforce's Li and Totman worked on it and play it on the album, but I like this live Kami Band version more. The concert has a great stage set up and the famous Yui leap over Moa during IDZ. At the end of the crowd "wows" I love the combination of the insanely fast guitar riff and the dance sequence that ends with the girls standing strongly and outlined by the lights, that's where I really get the chills. It shows how well the Babymetal team works to bring together music, singing, dancing and stage and lighting design. Next I dare you to listen to "Tales of the Destinies".

i feel you on the music journey. I found Babymetal a little over 2 years ago and have been spiraling ever since. I can't, nor do I want to, get out of this Japanese female metal rabbit hole. I've even started learning Japanese, which is crazy cuz I don't even watch anime. I'm a little obsessed but it is what it is. They do have a few "power metal" songs, but they are indeed "kawaii metal". They do all genres, mixed with jpop and metal and for the most part each song is unique, and you'll be hard-pressed to find two that sound alike. This is only your second song and when you said, "...I'm starting to get it now." I audibly laughed and thought, "he doesn't have a clue." Stick with it though because you will get it and it will amaze you with every new song you hear, probably.

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🏴 🏴 🏴 "Stand up and shout, Shout!, Justice Forever!" - (Road of Resistance) - I understand the protective impulse. I've got it myself, although they were a bit younger in 2014 when I started to follow them. There were at least a couple of times in their history when the members made a specific decision to keep going. The first was in 2013, when Su graduated from Sakura Gakuin, the school themed Idol group where BABYMETAL originated. BABYMETAL were already popular enough that management was interested in continuing the group as an independent project, outside of Sakura Gakuin. All three BABYMETAL members were asked if they wanted to stay with BABYMETAL. Interestingly, Moa was the one who took the longest to decide. Many years later, when Yui left the group for health reasons, Su and Moa made the decision to continue as a duo.

Gimme Chocolate was cowritten by a pop punk artist. The songs don't change over time the way you are thinking. They always vary wildly from song to song. I suggest 'Headbanger' live at Legend of 1997. The way that they changed over the years is mostly just that the girls got older. And they got generally better at everything.

Thank you for the good reaction. The girls got an almost unhealthy will to perform and at some points they should have been "tamed" a bit. Even the Kami band said, they had to work hard to keep up with them. i can only be Impressed how much they worked with school, babymetal-tours & sakura gakuin at the same time. There is even a joke Yui & Moa doing homework during Su´s solo parts. And what i really like: They are not sexualized. Would suggest the basics: Catch me if you can (Legend 1997, live, the girls are on fire); Megitsune (Musicvideo & Live are both great!) and Headbanger (Legend 1997, live, crowd interaction)
@Grington300
@Grington300 2 года назад
Great reaction. BABYMETAL have maybe 5 or 6 power metal songs, which is probably more songs in the one style than they have in other styles, but they do and are so much more than that - which is possibly one of the reasons they are as popular as they are. Unlike all those bands who you can label as being mainly X or Y and therefore they can be slotted neatly into the one pigeonhole and you can be fairly sure the next song you hear from them will be in that same genre, BABYMETAL just refuse to be limited or tied down in that way - and they have refused to be categorised right from the start (you will get an idea of what I mean if you are going to do an official video - try the second one they made - 'Iine' (that is IINE pronounced ee-neh, not Line). Even bands who people think are diverse may still only go into 3 or 4 different styles or genres - BABYMETAL do them all. They have about 50 songs now and you will find songs in their catalogue in virtually every different metal genre (power, speed, thrash, death, prog, nu-metal, folk, black, djent and so on), but they will also mix in many other musical styles and genres with the metal, usually when you least expect it, like ska, reggae, pop, Bollywood, Latino, hip hop, rap and more. 'Road of Resistance' is definitely one of their power metal songs of course. Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce did the guitar arrangements for this song and played on the recording for the studio album version. The song itself is about forging your own road, not necessarily going the easy way or following the path already made by somebody else, so if the way you want to go has never been trodden you may have to get past the resistance of the undergrowth, obstacles, hurdles and things blocking your way etc to find your own way. It could easily be used to describe BABYMETAL's own story - they could have followed the well trodden path of J-Pop and been very successful, but they chose to go with Metal ... but again they didn't just follow the same old format of every other metal band, they have done it their own way and it hasn't always been an easy route to follow. This was at Saitama Super Arena in January 2015. Su-metal was just 17, Yuimetal and Moametal still only 15 and that was a crowd of over 20,000 people completely under their control. You shouldn't worry about exploitation at all in their case. They were given the choice to continue or not when it was being decided if BABYMETAL should separate from their parent Idol group in 2013. When they chose to go on at least one of their parents told them if their school grades suffered they would have to stop. When Yui left the band in 2018 Su and Moa were given the choice to finish or continue - they chose to continue as a duo.

Great reaction. I'm sure Grington correct me if I'm wrong, but the girl's homeroom teacher from Sakura Gakuin went to their Tokyo Dome concert of 55,000 people, and he said that it brought tears to his eyes to see how much the girls have 'grown' and was happy to see that the girls were doing exactly what they wanted to do. And that they weren't forced or coerced into it. He also said that Su-metal was a completely different person on stage than in real life at the time. For those of us Fukei (Sakura Gakuin fans), we know how socially awkward and dorky Su-chan was when off stage. Her powerful stage presence was already noticed at a very young age, hence the group was created centered around her vocal abilities and stage presence.

Well, they know how to put on amazing shows there... Like many others, Babymetal was my gateway to the wonderful world of Japanese rock music. Five years ago already. I haven't followed them for some time now (I know they are currently on hiatus) because I am absolutely engrossed with other Japanese bands but I appreciate every moment of joy because they opened that door for me. That formation of the Kami Band is the one that has always impacted me the most. Fujioka, BoH, Maeta, and Ohmura. The first three had in common an amazing jazz ensemble. When Fujioka passed away they released an EP to help his family called Nimaime. The great guitarist was replaced by his most outstanding student, Satoshi Oka. If you are interested in Jazz/Rock fusion, their song 侍Groove (Samurai Groove) is a good place to start. Excellent video!. Greetings from your antipodes and thank you!

Suzuka Nakamato (Su-metal) as been performing since she was 3-4 years old. She was in a duet group with her older sister Himeka called Tween when they both attended Actor's School Hiroshima. Himeka is a year older than Su. They also have an older sister of the three. Their father Hiraoki "Chu" Nakamoto was a bassist for the J-rock/metal band, Hooligans for 10 years. Himeka would be a first generation member of Nogizaka46, the second largest and successful Japanese idol group behind AKB48. Prior to Suzuka joining the idol group Sakura Gakuin, she was in another idol group, Karen Girls that had a few hits. Karen Girls was Yui Mizuno's favorite group prior to her joining Sakura Gakiun and was a dream to perform with Su on one of Yui's favorite Karen Girl songs which was fulfilled. The performance with both girls also included Moa Kikuchi who would also join Sakura Gakuin with Yui. The three would then be picked for the heavy metal sub group to Sakura Gakuin as Babymetal while still be part of SG. Later Babymetal would spinoff separately from SG as their own when the three girls graduated from SG. Karen Girls, Sakura Gakuin, and Babymetal are all the IP of the talent agency, Amuse, Inc. whom are notorious for copyright strikes. So be careful. Amuse seem to have the biggest budget when it comes to Babymetal's special concerts in Japan, the stages, lighting, pyro, LED floors, and LED screens are massive compared to any other act in the world today. Only Rammstein can be compared but no where close to the production budget of Babymetal.

People like to say "band X does every style!" but honestly I think it applies here, from the BM songs I know. Their whole thing is this melting pot of different styles of metal, pop and other genres, so you can get wildly different stuff from song to song, or even just within the same song, it's pretty cool! I'm not really into power metal personally (this song and Lovebites did grow on me though) but they don't really fall into that category I don't think, as a casual observer anyway Karate would probably be a good one if you want a music video - little bit later, different style with some really interesting rhythmic/arrangement stuff going on in the verses I think you'd be into!

10:10 The mics when live can pick up stray sounds,I remember seeing Pink on maybe the VMAs , in the silks and hearing the"slish" the silks made while she was slithering around on them. The reason I go to a performance is to behold the personage and THAT is the point; if not singing, can be talking with the audience then, kinda like just the singer, a stool, and the microphone is all that's needed(and of course let us not forget the musicians) like was done on Ed Sullivan on many occasions. In an late 1969s movie, La Camara Del Terror( released to Englishcaudiences as Fear Chamber aka Torture Zone), if you are listening to the Latin uncut version, you can hear the sound the dancer's belt makes while she is dancing.But that sound isn't in the dubbed English versions.

The "Classic" Babymetal is not any specific sound or genre, but rather the trinity of the girls, the band and the crowd. As most fans will tell you, and even said by Moa herself, the cd's are calling cards to their shows. It's in the live concert where they truely shine through. Live Babymetal is Best Babymetal. People try to compare them to Band Maid or Lovebite, etc, but its a wrong comparison, because bandmaid and lovebite are more traditional bands with musicians and such.... Powermetal is what they have done the most but I still wouldn't pigeon hole them as a powermetal band. They do it really well though, in my opinion. I understand the concern regarding exploitation, but I'm not worried about that with Babymetal. They are well taken care of and, like you said, it's pretty clear they love what they do. They are hard working, talented and dedicated performers and it would be a shame to assume they are their to 'look cute' and nothing more. Su sings live except fur rare occasions, when they want to add an effect but she does use backing tracks of her own voice sometimes to add harmonies. Yui and Moa also use tracks. Yes, I feel I am paying them to sing live, but I'm not paying to listen to them to puff and grunt. So, their's a balance and backing tracks are a good compromise.

He explains that Road is Resistance is an anime battle song, as indicated by the battle horn heard over the sound of thunder at the opening, the battle flags carried by the girls, and the horse riding choreography. This is a Power Metal song, thanks to the help of Herman Li, et al, but BABYMETAL are not a Power Metal group. Du-Metal also provides great insights on Megitsune, the best BABYMETAL song.

Ievan Polkka also has a lot in common musically with British sea shanty songs. I think it quite likely that the inspiration was Ievan Polkka in part that it was covered by Hatsune Miku (the vocaloid) some years before. Regarding the child-like appearance: Well... how to put it... they, basically, still were children back then. This performance took place in January 2015. So Suzuka was 17 (since barely three weeks) and Yui/Moa were 15 at this point. And they already had this thing going on for the good part of four years, by the way.

Funny how you mentioned Dragonforce in the introduction, since Herman Li and Sam Totman arranged and played the guitar parts for the Studio version of this song! The Drummer is Hideki Aoyama, and yes, he has endurance for days! There is a rumor that in the Tokyo DOme shows in 2016, their biggest yet with a 55k audience each in 2 consecutive nights, at the end he couldn't walk on his own, and needed someone to help him! They were not kids in this performance, but not even adults yet! Yui and Moa were 14 and SU 16 when they performed this song in 2015! You can't get them yet: they have maybe 4 or 5 powermetal songs, the other songs are much different! You can find Ballads, Progressive, DeathMetal, Djent, Industrial and even more in their catalogue :D Here I will leave you some suggestions: - You commented how good the musicians are, in "Rondo of Nightmare" live at Budokan with Mischief of the Metal Gods intro, they do an instrumental solo were they showcase their abilities! - You said you wanted to watch an official MV: you could do "Doki Doki Morning" and/or "Iine" that are the first 2 MV they ever released, to see how it all started. Or since you are curious how they evolved, you could do "Shanti. Shanti, Shanti" or "BxMxC" that are from their latest album Be aware that some of their official MV get blocked: "Megitsune", "Gimme CHocolate", "Karate", "Road of Resistance" live in Japan, "No Rain No Rainbow" live at LEgend S and "The One - Stairway to living legends" are NOT safe. I hope the transparency in this video is enough to not get blocked. If it does, you can try to put a transparent logo on top and upload it again!

Babymetal is not a power-metal band. They are all over the place with their music, very varied. This particular song is a collab with Dragonforce, that's why it sounds like power-metal. The girls are still kids in this (Yui and Moa are 15). I don't think there is a problem with it since they were never exploited or forced to do anything. It's a valid concern in general though, since Japanese idol culture is known for being problematic. Please react to their song Headbanger, from the concert Legend 1997. Thank you for the good reaction!

I would argue that some of their earlier shows, when you know the backstories, do come off as at least somewhat exploitative when you take into account the travel and dates they had to work under. I forget exactly when it was, but it was one of the summer festivals in Europe, I think. They performed the day before in Japan or somewhere in Asia, then IMMEDIATELY had to catch a flight to make it to that festival for their performance. I get that their tour was set before the festival invite probably happened, but still. I hope they were consulted and offered the choice at least. A one-off situation isn't exploitative necessarily, but I feel like I heard a few of those incidents for them in the first five years of them touring. Couple that with some of the photos from that same time period where the girls had visible bags under their eyes and look exhausted, it makes you wonder and worry. I hope things have gotten better since it's gone around that the ladies are more involved in the production and all, but there was a period of time it was a concern to many fans.

Shirley Temple 1928. Acting age 3. Oscar at age 6. Forty Three films before age 12, that’s a new cycle every 11weeks… BabyMetal had huge shows, but not numerous, weren’t that busy til mid teens, like young ones turning 14… and they were all lifers; Su played a stadium at age 10, Yui was on Tv prior to joining, they knew what’s up…

@@timgove5337 To a point I agree, but they were still children and in most cultures it is understood that there is a point where they can handle themselves. Obviously, here in the states it is all shades of screwed up with some places allowing certain things at 15, 18, 21, or anywhere in between. The first couple years they were doing BABYMETAL stuff they were still children. By the time of this video, with them all being 15+ and Japan saying that is as much schooling as is required, you can choose what to do for yourself going forward, that's different.

Great reaction and breakdown, thanks! Yes, this was the losing encore for that concert, "New Year Fox Festival" on January 2015. And yes, that energy... it was a 90+ minutes long concert, all performed with this intensity. All in all it's considered epic. They have had the chance to quit several times for different reasons but they decided to continue. They are actually huge professionals. BOH, the bassist, told in an interview that they (the kamis) had to give always their best just to match the girl's standards and not to seem lazy. Also that this job (backing BABYMETAL) was the most difficult and demanding in his professional life. It's impressive when it's told by a seasoned session musician. They are extremely demanding with themselves and their team. Apart from that, Su-metal's favorite hobby is... karaoke. Enough said :)

Babymetal is one of those groups that actually doesn't settle firmly into one subgenre. Part of their concept is to represent as many different subgenres of metal as they can. There are only about three songs that I can think of that are comfortably in the power metal genre - Road of Resistance, Amore, and Arkadia. A few others may have some power metal elements, but I wouldn't necessarily classify them as power metal as a whole. They also have songs in the speed and thrash metal genres, death metal, nu metal, metalcore, EDM, hip hop, pop metal, and world music genres and subgenres. Of all of the major Japanese metal acts, I would say they are probably the most diverse in terms of the genres they play.

As you react to more BM, you'll discover that no song is like the last, they explore and mix up a lot of genres. I think Su was around 18/19 (she was born in Dec, 1997) and Moa and Yui both about 17 (both born in 1999) at this show. Babymetal is primarily a live production, more like a hit Broadway show. The three albums are just the foundations for their live shows.

one only needs to watch this performance to know this production is unbeatable and we should keep close tabs on what they do next. Talent everywhere, managed skillfully, with apparently genuine, non-ironic love for what they're making together. I too worry about exploitation, these three are ages 16 and 14 here. And the production company's vice-lock on public access to these celebrities' private lives could be just as much a sign that they're not being used inappropriately as a sign that they are. I am aware of abuses in Japanese Idol culture at its lower levels, and these three started with the specific dream of becoming Idols. Their enormous talent may have protected them from some of the harm. We can only hope.

Great reaction! I couldn’t help myself but giggle when you said “They are power metal, I get it now”. You have no idea what’s coming :) Babymetal surely did a few power metal songs, but what is the great thing about them is that they won’t put themselves into any category and restrict their music. If you listen to all 50+ songs they have done so far, you will understand. For me, the best example of that is probably “Iine” which is hilariously all over the place. The crowd interactions are an essential part of Babymetal, they want to make their shows a whole experience where the crowd is part of the show. As for exploitation, you are right to be concerned but from everything I’ve seen and heard, Kobametal (their producer) and everyone else involved were always super protective of them and Yui leaving in 2018 on her own terms is a good example that this isn’t the case with Babymetal. Check out “Headbanger” from the Legend 1997 show next :)

Road of Resistance Saitama Super Arena (SSA):- "Road of Resistance" is a song by the Japanese Kawaii metal band Babymetal. The song was released worldwide as a digital single on February 1, 2015 by Toy's Factory, serving as the lead single off the international re-release of the album Babymetal, as well the opening track from Metal Resistance. "Road of Resistance":- •Single by Babymetal. •Album: Metal Resistance. •Language: Japanese, English. •Released: February 1, 2015. •Genre: Kawaii metal, power metal. •Length: 5:19. •Label: BMD Fox, Toy's Factory, Sony Music Entertainment. •Composer: Mish-Mosh, Norimetal, Kyt-metal. •Lyricist: Kitsune of Metal God, Mk-metal, Kxbxmetal. •Producer: Kobametal. •Kyoto: (arrangement). Babymetal singles chronology:- •"Megitsune" (2013). •"Road of Resistance" (2015). •"Gimme Chocolate!!" (2015). Background and release:- "Road of Resistance" includes guest appearances by DragonForce guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman. The song would be used to mark the beginning of the band's lore, Metal Resistance Episode III, at the concert held on November 8, 2014 at O2 Brixton Academy in London, which was also the final tour date for the band's Babymetal World Tour 2014. A trailer for the song was released on January 5, 2015, integrating footage from the debut performance of the song in London. The song was first released as a digital bonus track off the live album Live at Budokan: Red Night, with limited editions of the album containing a download card with a code to download the song at no additional charge. The song was later released as a dedicated digital single on the iTunes Store on February 1, 2015. Li and Totman are featured on guitars, although they are listed as featured artists in various regions of the re-release of the album Babymetal, on which the song appears as a bonus track, mainly in the United Kingdom. Composition:- Rolling Stone described the song as "power metal" with "shiny pop harmonies". Rock Sound called the song "everything we’d expect from [Babymetal] with a bit of Dragonforce’s exhilarating, flame-fingered guitar added in for good measure." Matt Evans of The List called the song an "empowering hyperspeed anthem". According to Kadokawa, the song consists of twin shred guitars courtesy of Li and Totman, with a dynamic sound derived of melodic speed metal. The lyrics are described as a narrative on the Metal Resistance, which the band adopted on their world tour. It has also been considered the "final stage" of Babymetal and the prologue to Metal Resistance, and a transition performance that demonstrates the band's growth from the previous album. According to Su-metal, the song refers to the Metal Resistance lore, described as "the story of Babymetal traveling across the world in the hopes of creating a new metal to unify the world as we break through the barriers of language and borders. In the middle of the song there is a part where we go, ‘Wow, Wow’ and this is where our fans from around the world can sing with us at our concerts. I hope people will listen to our album and support us at our shows." Yuimetal stated in an interview with Metal Hammer that "Road of Resistance" is her favorite song from Metal Resistance, explaining that it "has been performed at so many concerts, so a lot of memories are jam-packed. The lyrics are positive, the sound is so cool, and [the] dance is so powerful." •Recorded by Watametal and Adrian Breakspear. •Mixed by Ettore Rigotti Personnel:- •Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal) - Main vocals. •Yui Mizuno (Yuimetal) - Backing vocals. •Moa Kikuchi (Moametal) - Backing vocals. •Kei Kobayashi (Kobametal / Kxbxmetal / Kitsune of Metal God) - executive producer, lyrics. •Miki Watanabe (Mk-metal) - lyrics. •Norikazu Nakayama (Norimetal) - music. •Nobuaki Miyasaka (Mish-Mosh) - music, arrangement. •Sari Miyasaka (Mish-Mosh) - music, arrangement. •Keiji Kusama (Kyt-metal) - music. •Kyoto - arrangement. •Leda - bass (Kami Band) •Herman Li - guitar (courtesy of Electric Generation Recordings Ltd. and Warner Music Japan Inc.) •Sam Totman - guitar (courtesy of Electric Generation Recordings Ltd. and Warner Music Japan Inc.) Saitama Super Arena:- "Saitama Super Arena (さいたまスーパーアリーナ, Saitama Sūpā Arīna) is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in Chūō-ku, Saitama, Saitama Prefecture, Japan. It opened preliminarily on May 5, 2000, and then officially opened on September 1 of the same year. Its spectator capacity is 36,500 at maximum settings,[3] making it the second-largest indoor arena in the world. The main arena capacity is between 19,000 and 22,500". •Owner: Saitama Arena Corp. •Capacity: 36,500 (stadium setting) 18,000 (arena setting). The arena was designed by Dan Meis, who at the time was working for architecture firm Ellerbe Becket, together with Nikken Sekkei. Meis's design was selected as a result of an international design competition. The arena features a gigantic movable section of seating which can reduce capacity for smaller events and create a more intimate setting. It is a favorite venue for puroresu (Japanese professional wrestling) and mixed martial arts (MMA). IDC what anybody says the Babymetal journey was stratosphered by Gimme Chocolate. That song is PUUUURE Kawaii Metal. A true groundbreaker. And it is a song which is still being put in soundtracks of games and TV shows proving its enduring relevance. As for Babymetal settling to a particular metal subgenre, let's just say you will be definitely surprised at how power metal they turned out. A pleasant surprise for sure. 😁😁😁🤘

16:39 It was different wayback in Temple's time.Have to remember what happened with Jackie Coogan and the business with Fatty Arbuckle. Then again, just 10-15 years ago, I am given to understand the Nicolodeon shows helmed by Dan Schneider had some bad stuff that was ongoing and the Britney Spears crap that went down. Lizzy McGuire and Hannah Montana ,Hilary Duff and Miley Cyrus, didn't take any shit, and their parents backed them up.Same as for Taylor Swift.

*Decides to check out "Road of Resistance" as a random choice to react to for a taste of what BABYMETAL is like live.* *Old Templar Knight from "Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade" enters the chat, just to say "You have chosen...wisely." All kidding aside, I have seen hundreds of bands live, from indie small-timers to arena-rockers like Metallica, but honestly? BABYMETAL put on the single greatest two concerts I have ever been to. I'm entirely serious. It doesn't matter gimmicks, or size of the venues (Chicago House of Blues x2, for me) both the crowd, the band, and the girls just put EVERYTHING into their performances, and were some of the most enjoyable, positive concert experiences I've ever been a part of :) Thanks for checking them out again!

What most reactors miss when they first see Babymetal is the fact that they had years of idol training before becoming Babymetal. People often wonder how such young kinds can do what they are doing at this age. Fact is, they have been in front of the camera for years. They have had dancing lessons and singing lessons. They have been in the public eye since they were around eight years old. I would suggest watching all the stuff you can find of the girls before Babymetal. Warning::: bring a box of tissues with you. There are some very touching moments. You will see the bond these girls truly have. The episodes of their TV program in Sakura Gakuin are really good as well.

SG and Babymetal started at the same time, SG wasn't before Babymetal. And for Yui and Moa SG/Babymetal was their first j-pop/idols work, they however had been in the spotlight for years this is true.

In the days of radio, there was always "The Count-Down to number 1" on New Years Eve. Road of Resistance would have landed between Stairway To Heaven and Free Bird. Shirley Temple turned out alright, US Ambassador (two countries), delegate to the United Nations Gen. Assembly and UNESCO and much more.When Su steps off the stage(No time soon pray to the Lord), look for her to take the position of, I don't know, maybe President of the World. You have only scratched the surface of BabyMetal and there is not much of a reason critique BM of 8 years ago (it's been done a million times by now). Two eras have passed since then and we are waiting waiting w/ baited breath for the next to begin. And how did you miss reacting to KingSlayer? Many people (myself included) consider it Song of the Year for 2021(yes, I know it came out in late 2020, but everything was locked down and dead at the time).

This is a serious question. Who do you consider to be BabyMetal ? Are they like The Spice Girls where they are just the manufactered girl singers, The Supremes where one lead singer plus backing singers, or maybe ABBA where the female singers are a part of the whole ?
@PrymalChaos
@PrymalChaos 2 года назад
Oof. That's a great question! I have only just discovered them so I have been getting it wrong at every step, but I think it's a little of all of those. The story seems to be that they started off purely manufactured, but when the got dropped from their label they struck out on their own and evolved into something greater than the sum of its parts. Honestly I think the whole BABYMETAL experience is kind of unique. Less of a band and more of a musical juggernaut. And everyone seems to just accept that because it's fun to experience it and be in on it.
@Grington300
@Grington300 2 года назад
@@PrymalChaos Their producer formed his idea and the concept around Su-metal's exceptional talents, so closer to The Supremes, but Yui and Moa were also key, so not quite the same and from the choices provided ABBA would be the nearest to what BABYMETAL are. Also this was not a commercially manufactured group with a set formula, a pre-ordained and identified target audience and set places that could be filled by any girl with a pretty face (so not a Spice Girls thing). He was allowed his pet project (or maybe passion project is more accurate since he was a lifelong metalhead with a hope to revive the fortunes of rock and metal in Japan since it was being drowned out by the idol system and J-Pop virtually monopolising radio and TV air time at that time) under the umbrella of the parent group (Sakura Gakuin) only because there was no financial risk to the agency. They were not dropped - they had become popular enough that the agency agreed they should separate from Sakura Gakuin to become a band in their own right when Su-metal graduated (SG had a school theme, it was for girls aged 10 to 15 and Su would soon be 15) and could be used as her vehicle as she furthered her career with the agency as a vocalist and only at that stage, when Yui and Moa had also agreed that they also wanted to continue with BABYMETAL, did they start to provide more budget so they could take on the Kami Band to play in their live shows and so on.

Nice reaction. It's Babymetal and everyone has so much to say. That's great as Su-metal would say. After 10 years folks are still pumped up by Babymetal. That says a lot about them. When they started out the world wasn't ready for them and now, we can't go without them. Babymetal is that special. The best part for you is that you don't have to wait all the years to hear the growth of the group. And as they say Only The Fox god Knows what they'll do next.

hi just to let you know you are bang on with the Irish jig in the solo Sam Totman (spelling) said he knicked it from an Irish folk song when him and Herman li wrote the guitars for ROR . but you have to be careful pinning them into a specific genre because they mix just about every one you can think from black metal to flamenco great reaction from fastly becoming one of my fave reactors. i am impressed how you can pick out very accurately certain bits of the songs from the first listen. The foxhole is very deep and the Japanese music scene is huge . from a musicians point of view i highly recommend Sokoninaru a band made up of 2 main members bother and sister i think with guest drummer (im still finding out about them) .Band Maid are also amazing as you know with them you are going to learn about Kanami / pigeons / barefoot assassin's / gorillas/ lol and i'm not joking .thank you for a great reaction keep em coming . They weren’t Shirley temple young, and their work life is well documented, literally coming from a tv (dvd) show about an “idol group” at a school for performers. Here’s their first interview, as the heavy music club, given by the journalism club. Ages 11,11, and maybe 13(Su’s BDay dec 97, club started summer 2010, not sure when this was filmed). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2eu4FjfmfNA.html So by Road of Resistance vid they’d had gimme chocolate (Su’s 16th bday dec ‘13, many vids, huge statue thruout, last time the band didn’t play the whole show), played Budokan 2 night stand (other major early show that a lot of vids came from), conquered Sonisphere (summer in England, react to Ijime, Dame, Zettai, as young ones turned 15), ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ro-_cbfdrYE.html Then jan 2015, ages 17,15,15, they did this show, w Road of Resistance as part of the Encore. They were big stars, and hard worked, and still very underage!

It's certainly not an observation i made about them. I never had a shady vibe or anything like that. It's like a reflex when I see a very young performer the just wonder. It's really got nothing to do with BABYMETAL at all. It's the history of the entertainment business that is the problem.

There has never been any hint at exploitation of the girls (Koba has girls about their age). Mori Sensei was their "homeroom" instructor at Sakura Gakuin. He was apprehensive about attending a Babymetal Live. He was worried for them, as idols being pressured into playing metal which wasn't their choice. He was thrilled. The show was really theirs, it was incredible. The atmosphere, the audience's response, and the energy the girls put into the performance. Here is the interview with Mori-sensei (English CC) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w69ynJD4n-E.html When Yui left and Amuse wanted to disband Babymetal. Su and Moa, with Koba's support, took ownership of Babymetal and continued to create their own path. Even 11 years into their career, Moa still messes with Su on-stage and shows her love for "everyone". They definitely love what they do. The only exploration involving Babymetal is "THE MERCH"

Yeah, I gotta be clear, I never got that "Shirley Temple" vibe from these guys.. @@PrymalChaos Understand the "Shirley Temple" aspect and the potential for exploitation of the girls (others have made similar comments). I respect how the Babymetal organization never sexualized the girls and their costumes were always age-appropriate within Japanese culture. From SG onward, we watched how Su & Moa (Yui until 2017) smoothly transitioned from pre-teen idols to early 20-yo beautiful "Super Ladies" without any hint of malfeasance. I appreciate how seriously Su, Moa, and Yui's privacy is protected.

Babymetal is the group that absolutely refuses to be pigeon-holed into a single genre. The earliest example is the song "iine!", another of their first songs which is a mashup of about 5 different genres of music. Dragonforcy is correct for this song as the studio guitar tracks were recorded by the Dragonforce guitarists.

The one thing you should not do is put Babymetal in to a metal genre, as they tend to do all of them, or at least they were working though all of them. When you hear a Babymetal song for the 1st time is when you know what genre it is, and sometimes you are not so sure as they may change it in the song.

The comments on the exploitation of artists are more than fair. I'm not big into the kpop scene, but I've heard horror stories to that effect from there. It's fair to be worried about these girls professional upbringing. They can be sort of a secretive band, but by all accounts, Koba is super protective of them. So looks like maybe a gem in the rough on that front.
