Boots, long pants, long sleeve shirt, tuck or tie off pants at boot. There are pants and long sleeve shirts that have cuffs with elastic sleeves and a mesh that prevents them from crawling up. The best defense is “permethrin “ treat your clothes and gear.
Decathlon do a great pair of lightweight, water repellent hiking trousers with an elasticated drawstring at the bottom, pull em over your boot and pull tight, brilliant for about 35 pound pal.
Good, down to earth honest vid matey. Going out like that was asking for trouble tbh but sometimes we have to make these mistakes to learn the importance of not doing it again. Glad you're both remain in good health. Best wishes
Hollywood camping and hiking in shorts is stupid and everyone tries it at least once. Glad you decided to bail, good decision. Those stupid ticks can even make you sick, so really good decision Dazzy. Thats the sign of a good wilderness man, making good decisions is always key.
Ticks are gnarly! A buddy of mine who works a high pressure office job decided to do a week night over nighter. The idiot decided to pitch up in a deer reserve. Fast forward to the next days meeting he suddenly started feeling a bit scratchy down below so to speak He excused himself and went to the office bathroom. When he dropped his pants he said he had about 100 ticks all stuck to his privates! He managed to scrape and scratch them all off. He then felt too faint and disturbed to go back to work !
That is the most disturbing tick story I’ve ever heard!! I hope your mate hasn’t been mentally scarred for life 😬 Could put a man off camping forever that
I hope he went straight to the ER after removing them. It's not funny, but I read that too many bites can cause anemia, not to mention increasing chances of Lyme😳
Hi Dazzy , Permethrin spray is the best way of keeping Biting insects at bay , can be sprayed onto most clothing to stop biting insects off , beware though , that it is also a form of Poison , and some people can be alergic to it ! , Craghoppers Kiwi pants come ready coated with it , and they work , with gaiters , to keep insects off , hope this is usfull mate . , Be Well my friend , Strength ,Honour and Respect .🙂👍
I use Rose Geranium oil for the ticks. Put some into a small skoosher with warm water. Give it a good shake and spray over trousers, socks and boots. I also give my dogs a good spray with it too. You’ll smell like an old granny, but who’s going to be sniffing you ? 😂😂
You need to get some Deet and Picardin insect repellent don’t be afraid of chemicals this could keep you from getting very sick . I am in an area where I put the stuff on to mow my two acres of lawn . You should just have some and an insect bite pen too.
@@DazzyOutdoors get some helikon tex BDU combats, don't worry they make them in black or green if you are one of those weirdos who doesn't like camo. I'm all about the old school US woodland camo these days.
Ticks, they latch on by jousting, hanging off the edge of foilage and grabbing hold as you pass, so, when you pass with hairy legs, there's lots of area and opportunities to get hold of, which is why you got more. Smooth legs might not touch the foilage but those hairs make a difference. Ticks only crawl upwards so if you tuck clothing in, in a way that they can't get access, they have to keep going upwards.. I hate ticks! Lol.. I'd have bailed, being so many of them, shorts or not, probably..
Thanks Mally, your comment has given me more understanding to how those horrible things go about their work. They’re number 1 enemy for me right now haha
@@DazzyOutdoors You're not alone ha ha.. Little tip for your cowboy style camping, straight from the old timers. Surround your sleeping area with a layer of ash from the fire (something you can do steady away) and the crawling insects won't cross over it..
Hey Bro don't feel bad at all . those ticks are no joke. used to they didn't bother me too much till one year and I got a bunch on me and I developed an allergy to them and now if one bites me sometimes it will take as long as 3 months to heal and drive me crazy itching. I have found that if I carry a bottle of bactine with me and as soon as I pull the tick off I spray the hell out of them and they seem to not itch as bad and heal up in a week to 10 days and for me that is fast. BACTINE SPRAY. Dwayne
Hello Dwayne that could be a really good call! Appreciate the heads up on the bactine spray. I don’t usually like to carry sprays and that into the woods but after this trip I think I’ve realised I need to. All the best
I use pure oils mixed in witchhazel then I spray it on my skin and clothing especially wrists ankles and waistbands, in tempted to get some feet for skin and permetherin for clothes. ✌
I got some craghopper trousers that have some kinda repellant in the material... can get shirts as well. Ain't got the shirt but the trousers are excellent. Light, flexible, quick drying and can zip off at the knees to turn to shorts. They look absolutely shite on the website 😂 but in real life look the part
@@DazzyOutdoors called craghoppers nosilife. Look like something a middle aged geography teacher would wear in the pics lol But like I said, better In the real.
Hey buddy, its a good question regarding the ticks. As i picture it, there is not much to do. First line of defence is treating your cloths before one goes out. Example with beeswax, deet and other insect repelant. Secound line would be a spraybox of insect repelant in once bag. But hey i think deet and or beeswax would probably be corrosive towards the adidas pants. But hey prove me wrong, fresh air! Rock on buddy, dig it. Honest, still a great video!
The trackies are old enough now to risk it, you’re right that’s what I need to do, get some insect repellent sprayed on everything. Appreciate the advice mate
@@DazzyOutdoors hey, i just throw back what i picked up! Getting the highest percentage deet in insect spray is the best. Random informasjon deet was invented for US marines when in vietnam rainforests. They used 100% deet. Think normal per is 10-30% but som farmers stores sell 80-90% deet for horse clothing. But needs to be diluted in water before sprayed. Its some nasty stuff! Best wishes!
So did you get bit? I havnt yet had a tick on me that iam aware, but last week my little terrier had a blood bloated one stuck in her neck, soon got tick remover to it. Iam worried about Lyme disease, you need antibiotics to prevent long term issues.
Yeah a few of them had actually bit in and I was still finding them when I had got back home. Good job on finding that tick on your terrier they can be quite hard to find. I’ve not found any bloated ones so as far as I’m aware of I got them all off pretty quick. Patty has previously caught Lyme disease years ago. So we should been better prepared to be honest.. But will definitely be making some changes after this trip
Please can you just wear proper clothing dude, shorts & joggers are not for life in the woods they are made for the gym. Heavy thick clothing may be a bane to wear but when it has draw stings on the legs & helps stop biting buggers bleeding you then it's worth wearing it.
