Newly signed Red Bull athlete Jett Lawrence talks about the importance of technique while riding a dirtbike and explains the feeling of not even gripping the bike while he is in a 'Flow'.
The Lawrence brothers have some of the best technique on the circuit and it's interesting to hear Jett say he has never got arm pump.

Just watching Jett race in person at Thunder Valley this weekend he definitely has better riding technique than any other rider that was racing there this weekend. The way he stands over the bike in a charge position and, grips the bike with his feet allowing the bike to do what it does and, "dance" under him and, not bounce/throw him around is pretty amazing. He looked so poised and, comfortable on the bike and, it seemed like he wasn't even riding hard at all....he definitely was the smoothest and, fastest rider out there.

His bikes are set up very good to let him ride it like he does, his feel for it is exquisite, like no other. His spine / posture is insane, his mental game is that of a beast. Good luck catching and beating those qualities. We are watching something very special evolve each time he races. I am in complete awe of his technical abilities, the way he drives a bike show amazing centre of balance. He don’t like roost either 😮😅👑

bless him, it seems like he struggles to put what he feels and does on the bike in to words. Probably because it's so natural to him, It's clear to see when he rides, while other riders are fighting the bike and track, Jett just looks like he's cruising effortlessly. If there was ever a textbook written on mx technique the Lawrence Bro's follow it to the letter

I used to ride like Hannah (just not as fast!). To me, if I didn't crash at least a few times when practicing, I wasn't pushing hard enough. Bob Hannah himself taught me to grip the bike with my knees to lock to it to reduce it from swapping, etc. But today it's totally different; Rhyno's teachings, and how Jett rides is mind-blowing. If Jett weren't so incredible and utterly perfect, watching him would bore me to death! I'd be doing handstands and usually save it, "controlled out of control" is a fair descriptor of my style. When in doubt: WFO. And rough battles with other riders was the norm. Watching me, you'd probably learn little to NO proper technique, but it'd be captivating and entertaining--akin to watching a train wreck. Oh, Nostalgia!!

Well... has its point, if your body's inertia is balanced with the bikes momentum then is not much need for squeezing the bike, at that point skill must be related to the balance that BMX riders might have, as their point of contact is the pegs and the handlebar, but on a MXbike if you nail the lines and the shifting as you would do on a supermini i see quite normal that this young professionals end up changing the riding learning curve. This kids had also, access to internet with loads of footage in slow mo, high definition, hypereallistic videogames,... I used to purchase VHS terrafirma via paper magazines by post back in the day.... that was my inspiration for all year.... times change.

'People don't know how important technique is' That's the truth, just watch how many people sell their trail bike because they 'need more power and suspension' yet they'll never take the time out to learn proper technique. If Jett was on a crf250 trail bike with stock suspension I bet he would smoke the lot of em. If you want to spend more money because the race bikes make you feel cool, just say that and admit you'd rather seem like a good rider than be a good rider. I was getting my cycle endorsement and someone was there with their friend who had to put his foot down during the test while doing the U-Turn, so what does his buddy who rides without a helmet tell him afterwards, that he needs an even bigger bike now that he has his endorsement.

I was thinking the same thing. That alone would greatly increase your speed. If I can ride the whole race like I ride the first lap?! And only worry about general fitness? Talk about a serious advantage. If his brother is the same that is probably some sort of genetic make-up.
@DirtBikes_MathGarden
@DirtBikes_MathGarden 3 года назад
Anthony Moore genetics probably only plays a little, probably negligible role. These guys have been in shape since they could walk. Their dirt bike muscles have never not been conditioned, and their bodies grew around the dirt bike (literally).
@amoore2165
@amoore2165 3 года назад
@@DirtBikes_MathGarden Give me a break. How many others riders start around 4? Like a ton. It’s genetics. If it’s even true. I’ve never heard anyone in my life say they’ve never experienced arm pump. And here there is two and they’re related. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt that it’s true since he sounded sincere but that’s not technique or growing up around it. Of course those help. They apparently have muscle fibers built for endurance and not strength. Regardless of the why that is a serious advantage in this sport. A lot safer too.

Ilove this kid ! something we did in Freddie spencers racing clinic retaught me s motocross fundamental and really reintroduced so many skills that were natural when i was 12 trying to handle 125. He was insidious about steering the bike with your core had a us doing laps at "knee on the ground speed" with just your for finger and thumb on the throttle bar and left hand loose as in off the bar completely. Doing laps like that including smooth downshifting blips no front brake no clutch. transmitting all the energy down your legs through the pegs into the rear wheel to the ground . He insisted you should be able to corner at any speed and accelerate at 100% in that posture. Then there were some comments about Kieth Code and counter steering blah blah . He reduced the the muscle memory more to downhill skiing ( a sport form years ago) than cycling or arm strength . That enabled you to use your front brake in corners leaned over reducing your radius and increasing lean angle long after you had committed to the apex , and he demonstrated this to you while you were on the back of his VFR850 with his knee on the ground talking to you with one hand on the bar .... But transmitting weight and centrifugal force to the ground through the suspension into traction was the key not manhandling the steering across the limits of traction, "driving the bike with your core". That is why you can always go faster with your tennies on if you forget your boots practicing, your feet grabbing the pegs and directing the bike i never got ARM PUMP IN MOTOCROSS (not ever but not often) because i was too small for a 125 I couldn't even begin to hang onto the bike that way and be competitive at all. Why I was on a 125? is a long story about minimum wage and washing dishes that i wont bore you with .. Jet is the shit !! he looks kinda like Jerry Robin on that old cr 250 at Lorretas great style and smart enough to interrogate him self

While leading a Supercross at 16 and battling with the dude who won the title two years in a row...

16 years old and leading a supercross in your first season, i think the odd mistake is expected. How many ama supercross races have you lead?

Forkner has how many wins and you are going to rip on the guys style damn bummer to see some one acting like a punk as a rookie

I personally think it’s cool that these guys are down to have a rivalry

Agree with OP. Bigger fan of Forkner than this guy. Especially in the personality/character department. Forkner just needs to stop his once in a while weird getoffs. He dominates, then oops...hurt. A bit like Cianciarulo in that regard.

Jett is playing up, being a character, I personally think we need more people like this in the sport. Everyone is so robotic in interviews these days, people like Jett keep it interesting!

Gypsy’s show in a nutshell: wear trendy flannel, get rider on show, give him props on style & douchiness. Take a dig at Dungey. Rinse & repeat.

I noticed if you have good riding technique your waist and legs should be the only thing getting tired. Your back and arms shouldn’t be working hard at all
