If it makes you feel any better I’ve got like 20 games I bought last year, and I’ve beaten like 4 of them. I’m terrible for getting so far into a game and ditching it, so that when I come back I don’t know where I am and have to restart. Rinse and repeat until deceased. 😂
I can relate BUT my friend and I started sort of a book club but for games where we decided what to play at the beginning of the month then we both play through it and have to finish it before the next month. Having someone there who's doing the same thing and can hold you accountable is good for staying committed.
Amazing selection of games! What I’ve been doing that really encourages me to beat games is every now and then pick an arcade game or a 2D platformer since those are short and help me get a sense of accomplishment while focusing on longer games.
It looks like I beat 37 games in 2023. I really liked your idea of making a list of kind of "game resolutions;" I did five in 2023 and am trying for 10 in 2024. I don't think anyone wants to see my random list in its entirety, but I think these were the best ones: Octopath Traveler II Shadow Hearts Afterimage Sea of Stars Super Mario Bros. Wonder Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology Monochrome Mobius
That’s awesome! You played a ton of great games! This year I wore myself out. I was on a mission to beat last years record of 53 games, which was my highest to date. I did it. I ran credits on 69 titles in 2023. Some of my favorites for the year: • Horizon Forbidden West • What Remains of Edith Finch • Diablo 2 Reignited • The Sinking City • Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana • Trails in the Sky FC • Final Fantasy 13
Great games. It's so cool to hear that another person on this planet likes Theatrhythm as much as I do. I play this all the time whenever I need some time to just relax.
I like how you give your own opinions on games with no concerns about what other people think. Very refreshing. I adored Dragon Quest Treasures, and fell off XI several times. I actually loved the looting, battling and free form adventures. I have no interest in stories in games or talking to NPCs, so it was right up my alley. I like to hear of others experiences with games including when these contrast with my own. Makes for compelling viewing!
@@femtrooper I think folk appreciate your authenticity. Some on RU-vid perform through a persona - not that there’s anything wrong with that, it’s one approach (Scott the Woz is brilliant, and makes for a good example). In general though I prefer people to be ‘real’. I think those who have been on the platform for a while tend to be like that. StephstooDef is another content creator like yourself keeping it real 😅 She’s been on here a while.
You had an awesome year for gaming! It’s actually kinda funny that we played a lot of the same games this year but have very different opinions on them. A lot of the reasons why you like certain games is why I didn’t like others and vice versa. It’s always cool listening to other people’s takes regardless if you agree or not! 😊can’t wait to see what you beat this year!
Haha, that’s why I’m always honest! Cause people might have a completely different taste from me and find something they like even though I didn’t like it!!!
This was a pretty atypical year for gaming for me. I'm a 37 yo teacher with a family of four, so gaming for hours on end every day isn't in the cards anymore. From the top of my head, I only beat a single game but a pretty long one: Trails in the Sky SC. Beat First Chapter years ago and started SC right after but abandoned my save. One day, I put it on a PSP emulator on my phone and started playing again and beat it at 100+ hours, and now I'm in a Trails binge, didn't beat the 3rd by the end of the year but I'm at the final boss already and soon I'll be playing Zero.
I beat 2 games! I was massively proud of that as I didn’t decide to get a grip on the backlog until partway through the year. I beat Strange Horticulture and XC3:FR, plus a few Destiny expansion campaigns. This year I am aiming to beat at least 3 games and only buy 3. Top priority: Metroid Prime, XC3 and Horizon:FW plus DLC. Made a tiny bit of progress already at lunchtime by getting to the next save station in Metroid. New motto : every side quest helps!
Awesome accomplishment to finish 21 games, especially as a mom who’s probably very busy! I finished 11 this year, and my favs were definitely TOTK, Mario Wonder and Harvestella 😊
2023 I decided to tackle my backlog by coming up with a small list of games I really want to play, and intentionally chose shorter (~10 hours on hltb) games. Once I was getting close to finishing the list, I started adding a few more and would just repeat this. Some outliers in there, like tears of the kingdom and ff16 (since I really wanted to play those) but by the end of the year I ended up beating 46 games!
First of all congratulations on reaching 10K, and yeah stellar that you beat 21 this year, and as a step up from 2022 in 20. I think I beat about 17, tho obviously life happens and stuff. Hoping to beat more than that this year, especially with the exciting games coming up
Glad you gave Tales of symphonia a try. I may be nostalgic but I played it 20 years ago and loved it. It may not have aged well but I’ll agree it’s a bit long and can overstay it’s welcome. But I enjoyed the story and the epic music.
I finished Crisis core on the last day of the year 2023 so like 3 days ago... its really hard for me to get into games these days, my old ass.. ive started alot of games tho haha
Im going throught Yakuza myself! It became my favorite series. Its so good that I started to platinum them! Went back to back to back and now im burnt out after 3 and realized I missed a lot of games and my backlog grew. Now I'm in that limbo of wanting to play something at the end of my night, but I end up playing nothing cause im tired from work and my 7 yr old.
I played 35 games all the way through in 2023, which is easily double any previous year for me, but it was definitely mostly 10 hour or less games. The steam deck really made gaming so much more appealing to me when i got it in december 2022
I finished more games this year than I have ever! So many good games this year. VR was a real gamechanger for me. Switch: Zelda TotK, Hollow Knight, and Super Mario Wonder PS5: Tunic, Spider-Man Miles Morales, Spider-Man 2, Jedi Survivor, FFXVI, Sekiro, Armored Core 6, Cyber Punk 2077, Lords of the Fallen PSVR2: RE Village, Cosmodread, Red Matter 1&2, Pixel Ripped 1978, Synapse, The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners, Moss, The Light Brigade, RE4
It's interesting that you didn't care for Bayonetta, but liked FF16. If your only complaint was the color palette, Bayonetta 2 and 3 are definitely more colorful. I played Wo Long Fallen Dynasty which I loved because I'm a huge Dynasty Warriors fan so Team Ninja's take on Romance of The Three Kingdoms was definitely awesome to me. There was one revelation that blew my mind when you find out. One game I had high hopes for and I enjoyed the combat and building things with the Karakuri, but it was way too difficult. 3 massive difficulty spikes, two in the story alone, so a 75 hr Platinum turned into like 150.
Just counted my total up. Looks like I beat 24 games this year. Im quite pleased with that! A bunch of smaller games but also TOTK so a productive year
Wow! So well done to beat this many games within the year. I think I did maybe half of that in 2023. Always great to see some earthbound love as well! I need to get back to replaying it!!
@@femtrooper I was just chatting with @uppernimbus about channel direction and focus. I said that my channel had no focus and that you and Steph were my favourites.
This year was amazing for video games, I don’t recall how many I beat but I know I enjoyed every moment. I did that switch recap and I was surprised on a lot of the stats. Switch is the best, I beat so many more games because of how portable it is.
Thank you for sharing the games you have beaten! It's nice to see some more "realistic" personal Gaming Year reviews. I always feel like not beating enough from my backlog when i hear people beating over 100+ Games a year. I beat 19(-ish) Games this Year. Pentiment Castlevania SotN (finally!) Ridge Racer Type 4 Ace Combat 7 Final Fantasy 1 Pixel Remaster Final Fantasy X Remastered Monster Hunter Rise Yakuza Like a Dragon Ghostrunner + Expansion Street Fighter 6 (Completed Season Pass so i counted it) Fire Emblem Awakening Guitar Hero World Tour (I was feeling nostalgic) Arcade Paradise Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock Baldurs Gate 3 (GotY for me) Ghostrunner 2 Hades Like a Dragon Gaiden
Thats a lot of big games to finish in one year! Wow! I also had the best year in finishing my backlog...i finished the most i ever did in a single year and that was 37...mind you...they were all smaller games from the 80s and 90s via anniversary collection packages on the Nintendo Switch like Contra, Castlevania, Arcade anniversary collections...that Cowabunga TMNT collection and the new Jurassic Park classic collection. It was so nice playing those old classics to completion going back to my childhood seeing those series evolve with each installment and the history of gaming in that era when Konami was king or queen then lol. I did get to finally play Gears of War 4 and 5 via PC cause I missed out on those not owning an Xbox One. But its crazy i did 37 though they were smaller games with the little time i have these days...ah responsibilities
I want that much time, but I think it's also a lack of motivation for it in my old age. The only games I remember beating this past year were Star Ocean 2's remake, Baldur's Gate 3, and yet another trip through the DS version of Dragon Quest 5. Kudos for you for sticking through it. I plan to focus on my games this year and finish that Suikoden remake, Eiyuden Chronicles, and FF7 Rebirth, if possible.
The first game I completed this year was also Pokemon Violet! I did not like Three Houses either. I feel like I played a lot but no where near you 😅 just slowly completing my backlog which is not too big, but with about two or three handfulls of lengthy rpgs among others, it will take a little while
I was able to beat 15 games last year, very proud of that! Including Tears of the Kingdom. Finally completed my first Xenoblade Chronicles game with Definitive Edition on December 30th. 😅
In 2023 I actually managed to finish around 15 games, which is the most I have beaten in a long time. I miss the days of beating games more frequently, but I was also much younger, had less responsibilities and waaay more time back then. So I am very happy with my accomplishment 😄! And besides, long as I am having fun doing what I love to do then I am still happy. This year I have made a plan to finish even more games,so we will see how that goes.
Oh my gosh, I need to step up my game if I'm ever gonna come close to 21! I've started keeping track of the games I'm playing this year, which I haven't done before, believe it or not. Hoping that will give me some ideas for videos down the road!
Loved seeing your journey through the games you finished. Blue Reflection is definitely a game I want to play this year and I have never played Earthbound before so I really need to fix that too.
Well done and enjoy these recap videos. Those are some interesting games you got thru. I completely agree with you on ff16. I felt it was a slog to get thru and don’t enjoy the dmc style games so it was a let down for me. Zelda totk took me ages to play and had a blast all the time, Spider-Man 2 might be my goty because I never watched the clock when playing and that’s how I know I’m having fun. Starocean divine force was hard for me. Because I hit a worm at the beginning that I could not beat and gave up on it. It’s cool to see other titles I haven’t checked out. Great video
Haha, I know the worm! I was so mad too at first so I grinded a few levels and then got past it. That’s definitely one of the hardest moments in the whole game so I still recommend going back to it!
21 games is amazing! I beat 18 games. Wish I had time for more. Just started playing Horizon forbidden West. So I’ll hopefully finish this soon to get 1 checked off for 2024
Wow, that's a lot of games! Good job! I imagine it's really hard to balance the games you want to play vs spending time editing videos. I also played Guardians of the Galaxy last year, and I didn't expect to love it so much. I played it right before going to the cinema to see the 3rd Guardians movie, and it made me disappointed in the movie because I got much more of a Guardians feeling from the game because of all the fun party banter. Also the environments look amazing. I think I also completed around 20 games. Some were a bit shorter like Ara Fell and Child of Light. Others took a bit longer like Tactics Ogre Reborn. I'm looking forward to the games you'll play this year! Oh man, so many good games releasing in the coming months. One of my goals is to reduce my backlog, but it'll take at least 3 years to clear my backlog without purchasing any new games. But I just can't let Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Metaphor Refantazio and Yakuza Infinite Wealth slip by. Unfortunately that means I have to skip Persona 3 Reload, Dragons Dogma 2, Granblue Fantasy Relink and Unicorn Overlord for now. Maybe I'll catch up when I get retired. And I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a playstation release of Harvestella. I really want to play that, but I don't have a switch.
I just picked up the star ocean game you were talking about and I have also never played one so maybe I can start there. Such an amazing list of games and I can't wait to hear what you discover next.
My total for this year was 17, though I am counting older short games that I never played before like Mega Man X, and Tears of the Kingdom took up months of my calendar. Mostly I'm proud of how I beat Zombies Ate My Neighbors for the first time. It's one of my favorite childhood games and I thought I would go my whole life without beating it because it's so hard but I even completed it by rescuing every neighbor in the game.
Considering the amount of lengthy rpgs you play that is impressive. I don’t keep count, need to, but some took me for hundreds of hours Diablo 4 and Starfield. Some were short like Robocop, Spidey 2 and Mario Wonder. FF16 feels like it refuses to end. When I thought I beat the final boss yesterday the game yanked me back to the hideout for a dozen more side quests.. it almost broke me they are so lacking compared to the main story, way too much dialogue - I want to see the end dammit! Crisis Core looks really good. You have good taste. Guardians is one of my favorite games in recent memory. I’m glad they’re different, Drax isn’t a looney tune like the movies. Soundtrack was great.
Love that type of backlog video! Great list! I need to continue Harvestella 😁 This year my personal highlight was xenoblade 3, such a blast. I finally was able to get into a xenoblade game! I quite enjoyed fire emblem engage but i was so sick from the hub area, it was tedious after a while. I have a hard time remembering games i played so i let that as it is. Gonna write them somewhere for 2024.
@@femtrooper yeah i plan to beat Harvestella this year! You'll enjoy x3 so much! It's more relatable than the previous xenoblade in my opinion. So the story hit so much at some times!
Impressive! I beat a whopping total of 3 games in 2023 🤣 We never got a physical copy of Blue Reflection in Australia, but I ended up importing the European version, I just HAD to have it in my collection! Great video as always Paige, loved it~
You should absolutely give Bayonetta 2 a try! It is LEAGUES better than the first game. I honestly agree with everything you said about Bayonetta 1, yet Bayonetta 2 is one of my favorite games.
I personally view 8 as the best introduction to Dragon Quest - even though it's not my favorite. That's still 5- I played it on PS2 and liked the updates for the 3DS version. My 2023 game clearing project ended up being playing through all 9 Professor Layton games: the two trilogies, the mobile game, the Phoenix Wright crossover, and the Katrielle game. I'd only ever played the first two games, didn't intend to do them all. Originally I was just going to play the Phoenix Wright crossover, but since they announced there will be a new game now releasing in 2025, I decided to go through them all. It took me 8 months.
I beat Tears of the Kingdom, 3D World Runner, Yakuza Zero, Alex Kidd in Shinobi World, Adventures in the Magic Kingdom, Astyanax, Land of Illusion, Gradius, Gradius 2, Gradius 3, Fester's Quest, GI Joe, Gremlins 2, Iron Tank, Jackal, Super Mario Wonder, 1942, 1943, 1941, Metroid Prime Remaster, and Atari50. Made a concerted effort to knock some off my list. Sure, a lot of them are old NES and Master System games, but I still made the effort to beat them.
Congrats on getting through so many games! That’s a lot of cool games 😁 I played through a lot of games this year: (45 games in total) Alien 3 [NES] Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon Axiom Verge 2 Banjo-Kazooie Broken Pieces Castlevania Clea Clea 2 Dead Island 2 Dead Space (2023) Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine Drums Rock Earthworm Jim [Mega Drive / Genesis] Final Fantasy XVI Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered Guacamelee! 2 Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil Lies of P Light Up The Room Lords of the Fallen (2023) Mega Man 8 Moss Motorstorm Predator [NES] Quake Ragnarök Remnant II Resident Evil 4 (2023) Resident Evil 4 (2023) Separate Ways [DLC] Resident Evil Village VR Scars Above Signalis Street Fighter 6 Super Mario Bros. Wonder Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island Tekken The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Theatrhythm: Final Bar Line Unplugged Air Guitar Valkyrie Elysium Walt Disney World Quest: Magical Racing Tour Wheelman WWE Crush Hour
I felt the same on FF16, I was kinda luke warm on the realistic style they went with but the demo sold me on the game, after finishing the game I was a bit disappointed, I could say alot about it but I will leave it at that. I do think however FF7 Rebirth will be alot better with a more colorful world to pull from. I have recently pulled the 3DS off my shelf again after it collecting some dust, I have DQ8 for it, I might give it a try soon. Thanks for the video!
I didn't play many games last year but I managed to finish 13 and it feels great lol. I also had the same feeling playing Kena.. beautiful art and decent combat, but everything else was boring to me :(
I beat 7 games and got a platinum for 1. I'm a dad of an almost 5 year old autistic boy. We play a lot together because 2 of those games we bear together. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 & 2. He loves Spider-Man. Amazing that you beat 21. I mean, simply impressive. Kudos and keep playing. 👍
Thanks for your list, yeah it's always fun to share our gaming memories, I did beat 30 games last year, here the list in no particuliar order. A good mix of old and new 3DS, Nano Assault EX. NES, Adventures in the Magic Kingdom, Bionic Commando and The Legend of Zelda. PC, Anvil of Dawn, Anvil Saga, Cat Quest II, Jumpman, Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk, Rygar(arcade version), The Pedestrian Sega Saturn, Shining the HolyArk Super Nintendo, Arcana, Brandish, Dragon Ball Z - Super Gokuu Den - Totsugeki Hen, Dragon Quest, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Lagoon, Last Bible 3, Paladin's Quest, Shiren the Wanderer 2, The Lord of the Rings: volume 1, Ys IV - Mask of the Sun Switch, Blaster Master Zero 2, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Mario Super Picross(via Super Nintendo Online), Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom (via Sega Genesis Classics), Pikmin 1 and Theatrhythm Final Bar Line.
I beat 20 games last year. However unlike you, quite a few of the games were shorter in nature that were a handful of hours. Had some longish games in there like Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky and AI: The Somnium Files - Nirvana Initiative. This was on top of me playing a ton of Honkai: Star Rail and putting over 300 hrs into that. If that game didn't exist, I probably would have been close to my record of 30 games, which I did in 2022. That year had some long games like Persona 4 and even Scarlet Nexus. You said you didn't really connect with Kena: Bridge of Spirits and I am having the same issue you're having. I'll probably beat it. Good luck on beating a lot of good games this year!
Hi. I'm a new subscriber and have therefore been watching a lot of your videos. You're a breath of fresh air; I don't know if it's your Canadian enthusiasm (I'm a Brit, we tend to be more downbeat) but you've reignited my passion for gaming and I now have a plan to 'battle my backlog'. With that in mind, I have made my list and set my 2024 goal at 48 games (4 per month). Thank you 😊
Going to try keeping track of what i beat this year. Kinda lost track last year but i did beat xenoblade 2 and torna along with trails 1 and 2 and both crossbell games and many others. Even beat mario world for the first time as well
Wow. 21?!! That’s amazing! I think I beat like 5. Sekiro, Elden Ring, Mario Wonder, TOTK, and Lies of P…possibly more but can’t really remember. I have a hard time finishing games. I dumped almost 300 hours into Baldur’s Gate 3 and just stopped playing for some odd reason. Very close to the end. I tend to do that though.
Amazing. Simply amazing that you manage to beat that many! I manage to finish: 1) xenoblade 1 2) tears of the kingdom 3) metroid dread 4) 13 sentinels aegis 5) resident evil 3 6) Miles morales 7)megaman 11 8) tmnt shredder revenge Eight games only. But im kinda happy i managed to to beat it while enjoying time taking care of my son (2 years old)
Congratulations on beating 21 games in 2023. I haven't beaten even half that amount of games in 2023. Here's my list of games I've beaten in 2023 1. Street Fighter 6 (World Tour mode) 2. Resident Evil 4 Remake (The Ashley stuff and the bear traps are the most annoying parts of that game to me) 3. Final Fantasy 16 (It's my 2023 game of the year that I've purchased and played but i hate the cooldown mechanic) 4. Robocop: Rogue City (Excellent game and THE best Robocop game yet) My honorable mentions for DLCs if they count' 1. the Alone Against Fate DLC (Bardock's DLC) from Dragonball Z Kakarot, 2. The 23rd World Tournament DLC from Dragonball Z Kakarot, 3. The DLC involving the Dragonball Super: Super Hero movie from Dragonball Xenoverse 2 4. the Separate Ways DLC (Ada Wong's DLC) from Resident Evil 4 Remake. 5. The Final Horizon DLC from Sonic Frontiers It would be interesting to see you do a video listing some of your biggest pet peeves in video games and a list of things you love most in video games. Happy New Year by the way.
In 2023, I beat 8 games: 1. Bravely Default 2 2. Tales of Arise 3. LOZ Tears of the Kingdom 4. Saga Frontier 5. LOZ Oracle of Seasons 6. LOZ Oracle of Ages 7. Final Fantasy IX 8. Star Ocean 2 R
38 year old father of 3 here. Beat 23 games in 2023, a personal record. And considering I spent 3 months playing nothing but Tears Of The Kingdom, I’m extra happy with that 👍
Big congrats on beating 21 games this year!! Especially since you seem to play a ton of RPGs. I recall seeing you on Happy Console Gamers channel a few months ago and your video got recommended to me today so I thought I should give it a watch. I assume you are also a fellow Canadian?? Either way, you seem like a really nice person. We don't have a lot in common gaming wise but any gamer is good in my book, especially another female gamer. I was able to complete 50 myself and I won't bore you with naming them all 😂 Hope you have a great 2024 and perhaps you'll add one more to the list for this year as you did for last 😊
This just popped up in my recommended, and I wanted to share the games I finished last year. I managed to finish 17 games in 2023, with Hi-Fi Rush being my game of the year. Here's my top 5 games I played in 2023 1. Hi-Fi Rush 2. Super Mario RPG Remake 3. Gears of War 2 4. Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe 5. Ys Origin
Bayonetta 1 has always been one of my personal favorites despite the art-style, and is definitely my favorite over the other two, though I can definitely see why it’s not for everyone. You already know my thoughts on Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe. It’s easily my favorite Kirby game on Switch, though that’s mainly due to my strong attachment to the original game and it being one of my all-time favorites. Forgotten Land comes so very close though, and admittedly it still pisses me off to no end how Return to Dream Land Deluxe has no online multiplayer or visual options whatsoever. Lol Also that’s a shame you didn’t like Kena: Bridge of Spirits. :( I’ve yet to finish the game myself, but I’ve enjoyed what I played so far and have been meaning to get back to it for some time.
21 is a really good score. I didn’t beat that many. I only beat these 7 games in 2023: - Phantasy Star - Wario Land - The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (Switch) - Donkey Kong Country 2 - Disgaea 2 - Diablo II: Resurrected - Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Paige, your favorite game is Earthbound, you can't say you don't enjoy cozy games! 😂 Jokes aside, 21 games is a big year by MOST people's standards, especially if they like JRPGs. I have Earthbound through the 3DS eshop, but I'm probably going to sell the specific system I bought it on, so I really need to play through it soon! Could I ask what your favorite Final Fantasy is? Mine is 4, and has been since I first played it in '91. I was actually just talking with my wife a few hours ago about this, as a tangent to a film discussion. I feel like the FF games are an interesting case; nearly every version had its pros and cons. Pixel Remaster Collection is for sure a great way to experience the classics, but for most of them I'd say that they aren't the "best" versions. I finished FF1 through 5 of said FFPRC this year, but since I've played them all several times before I blew through them fairly quickly. Still working on 6, I'm just before the Opera House (iykyk). I'm pretty sure the closest I came to beating anything *new* this year was Vampire Survivors, but like my other most played game of the year, Hades, it doesn't really end. The wife and I have also been playing Genshin Impact for 3 years, so some of my game time has been going to that as well. Happy 2024!
I’m never sure what my favourite Final Fantasy is! I’m thinking it’s either 4 or 10! I LOOOOOVE 4 - something about it just hit different. Special game!!!
I so badly wish I had kept track of my games beat this year. I only kept track of December and completed six games. This year I'm determined to keep track.
I keep a physical calendar on my fridge. For December I wrote each game title on that month once complete. Making a physical group is a good idea also though!
I have to agree with you on FFXVI. I’m currently playing it now and about 70% through the game. I wasn’t interested in playing it initially because it didn’t look like a typical Final Fantasy game 😆. But I received it as a Christmas gift so I decided to give it a chance. I definitely agree with you on the feeling of the “highs and lows” during the game.
I beat pokemon green in japanese! super proud of myself because it means my reading comprehension skills aren't as rusty as i thought they'd be! digimon cyber sleuth: hackers memory and 13 sentinels: aegis rim are highlights too! :)
I finished 7 games fully. Some that have been on my backlog for awhile red dead redemption 2. Doing very well after getting hands on a ps5 to complete or give time to games i buy rather than just have in my collection.
