sorry this took so long i hope you like it :) (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ 🗝 / sarahkey / thesarahkey / thesarahkey Merch: www.designbyhu... Discord: discordapp.com...
"im sorry for crying" im an 33 yr old man whose played this game over 200 times. and my ass still gets teary eyed at certain parts. if you don't cry you have no soul.
My final team is chrono, robo, ayla... maximum damage... but... plotwise, marle, lucca and frog are better characters. And magus is good for fast normal battles, just lightning 2 almost everything
@@aozf05 Okay but that's only relevant if you see that scene as a shipping moment rather than just a character moment. I argue that because Lucca and Crono have a stronger relationship that the hug represents much more than what it does for when Marle does it. That doesn't necessarily mean it's better I just prefer it.
Robo's parting hits the hardest for me...knowing that with Lavos defeated, the bleak future that space parasite caused will never happen...and that would mean Robo wouldn't exist. A bitter irony, really; he aided your party to the very end, even if it meant he would cease to be...
@@l3loodyfingers I mean, they're all pretty amazing. I'd say XBC1 and Chrono Trigger are both pretty competitive for the top spot, with DQ lagging behind a little (presuming we're talking about XI, I haven't played many of the others). Maybe CT would have the edge over XBC but I actually haven't played it since I was 14, even though I remember it being great! But it's like having to pick between all your favourite foods or something.
When first getting to Zeal. That's when a good game became a legendary game. It just blindsides everyone how the game gains so much more depth at such a clear cut spot.
by far, the best game story. from setting, to how nothing is overplayed, to even how it flows. no other word defines chrono trigger besides perfection.
The interconnectedness of the Pendant, Dreamstone, Masamune, Janus, the indestructible doors and treasure chests all coming together is superb and completely blew my 10-year-old mind when I first encountered it.
One of my classmate told my teacher that the reason why dinosaurs got extinct because Lavos fell on the earth a million years ago 😂😂😂 And the UFo sightings is because Chrono was looking for his mom 🤣🤣
I remember staying up all day and night during the summer of 97 playing this..I was absolutely addicted..times were so simple back then and now I'm 37 :(
Sarah, you’re the best!! Chronotrigger wasn’t released in Australia back in 1995, so I had it imported from Japan with an adapter for my SNES. I never played a game that was so dramatic. Watching your videos allowed me to relive all of it and not be afraid to have a cry with you. The characters are quite special. Thank you Sarah.
I remember Aussie NMS (Nintendo Magazine System) previewing it and raving about how good it was ... and then it never came out! 🤬 I eventually played a Japanese copy while in Japan in the early 2000s. It was a hard slog figuring out the story with all the kanji (the bit where you have to run around Spekkio's room three times to get magic totally stumped me), but I got as far as Zeal. Later I played it with an adapter. Then tried to get through an English version on emulator, with faulty graphics. Finally finished it on DS. By then I'd seen the early part of the game so many times over that I was a bit fed up with it. If only they'd just released the bloody thing back in the 90s. 😓 Thanks Sarah for the playthrough!
What a masterpiece. The art, music, story, and game design are all just incredible. Playing this back in the late 90s absolutely blew my mind, and shifted my whole perspective on the potential of video games, from "just games" to true art. It's amazing how beautiful it still is today, 25 years later -- a truly timeless experience.
In a soundtrack full of absolute bangers, I think the credits music is my favorite. I love love love when games have a unique credits theme, not simply a medley of themes from the rest of the soundtrack. Chrono Trigger is the best of both worlds!
Playing and beating this game back in the day was truly magical... I had to rent it from the video store because games were expensive. No internet back then for FAQs or anything, just you and the game.
I had so many emotions when i first played through this game. It was a turning point for me when it came to video games, one of the first true rpgs i'd ever played, the way this game made me feel then still affects me today. this game is a classic, thx for sharing your time with it with us.
2 things some people might miss from the anime cutscene from the end: 1 - the green haired guy leaving the castle was Frog, having his curse removed, he back to a human form and was receiving his official knighthood from the king. 2 - the baby Lucca found was actually Schalla, Magus's sister, reincarnated. Lucca bring her back home and create and orphanage to take care of her and other orphan kids. Also, the anime cutscene at the end was created after Chrono Cross was released, as a way to try link some of the events from both games.
I loved your genuine reactions, made me remember my own reactions when I first play this game 18 years ago, well actually my brother played it, I saw him beating this game 2 or 3 times before I actually got the courage to play it 'cause I was scared of playing it by myself. You made me very happy with this video, Thank you!!
I always thought that the bright light that came out of Crono before he "died" was the time egg, which animated the doll for a moment, right before the egg shattered and the doll dissolved. I've always considered that to be an amazing bit of fridge brilliance.
You are so fun to watch. Your personality just shines. You can brighten anybody's day! I know your schedule has been heavy lately but I hope its getting better and your stress is less. Thank you for all the content you give your fans!!
Your reactions to this game are absolutely adorable. I loved that you would read the lines; a voice-acted Chrono Trigger has been a fantasy of mine for a long time
It blows me away how much emotion it triggers with a basic 8 bit format. Imagine if it was played by a full orchestra and a good pair of good sounding headphones.
I wish there was a youtube video with all the Death Mountain scenes. It's cool to see Frog's version in your playthough, though there's no denying that Marle's and Lucca's are more emotional. It makes me wonder what would happen if you had a party of Ayla, Robo, and Magus... is there an Ayla version? When I replay the game I'll definitely check out all the scenes.
Wonder if Sarah would be into Dragon Quest 11. I played it because it’s on Gamepass and now it’s one of my top 10 favorite games ever. Music is on point, story is also on point. Was crying for like the last week playing it.
Theres no non-creepy way to say this... but I absolutely love her enthusiasm and joy over the music, the looks, the everything... Im in love... very platonically, of course.
Ah, man, everything about this game is SO FREAKING BEAUTIFUL GOSH DARN IT! By the way, the song that plays when everyone is saying goodbye is called Epilogue - To Good Friends, and it always makes me cry. But, there's also a vocal version done by Laura Shigihara on the album To Far Away Times: Chrono Trigger & Chrono Cross Arrangement Album, and it makes me cry even more, so anyone who wants more feels about this game should listen to that. Also, it's just beautiful.
Chrono Trigger. My favorite game of all time. Everything about it is perfect to me. Also, when I played this when I was a teenager I was so shocked to see Crono die. Back then the main character dying just wasn't a thing. It's like FF but better story and more fun. I still play this over and over on my phone through emulation. And I have the original SNES cartridge. God I love it.
For Lucca and the baby to make sense you have to play Crono Cross from the PS1 days. Its story setup. Anyway I just caught THE virus so thanks for the distraction. I needed that. :D
You know Chrono Cross is not a real sequel to Chrono Trigger and that the anime cutscenes were made for the PS1 version of CT after CC was released as an afterthought to try to tie both games.
@@mrmiffmiff No, it isn't. Hiromichi Tanaka said this about Cross not being a sequel: When creating a series, one method is to carry over a basic system, improving upon it as the series progresses, but our stance has been to create a completely new and different world from the ground up, and to restructure the former style. Therefore, Chrono Cross is not a sequel to Chrono Trigger. Had it been, it would have been called Chrono Trigger 2. Our main objective for Chrono Cross was to share a little bit of the Chrono Trigger worldview, while creating a completely different game as a means of providing new entertainment to the player (...). Masato Kato once said this: We didn't want to directly extend Chrono Trigger into a sequel, but create a new Chrono with links to the original.[24] Yes, the platform changed; and yes, there were many parts that changed dramatically from the previous work. But in my view, the whole point in making Chrono Cross was to make a new Chrono with the best available skills and technologies of today. I never had any intentions of just taking the system from Trigger and moving it onto the PlayStation console. That's why I believe that Cross is Cross, and NOT Trigger 2. And I can quote many other directors, designers or producers that work on either Chrono Trigger or Chrono Cross.
hehe glad you like this masterpiece of the old school and as gift for it, i will give you some info (dunno if still canon) The kid that Luca grabs in the end, its hinted to be Kid (ancestor or actual character), who is the reincarnation of Schala, so its the one thing Magus search the most and as final piece of information, the real secuel of Chrono Trigger (japan only if i remember correctly) is Radical Dreamers, the continuation of the history of Magus and after it comes Chrono Cross. Chrono Cross is oficialy localizated so i hope one day you give it try and congratulations for finish this beautiful game

The First time I finished the game in my old Crt Tv (25 years ago). I had the same Emotional reaction like you and It was the First time a RPG made me so involved with the story and its characters, they appeared to be Alive and made me care about them, something Very rare today.
Given her reaction to Lucca at the beginning, I certainly wasn't expecting her to barely use that character in this playthrough. Or was the editing to blame?
Skala? Epic? Tisk? LOL! Love it! Btw, comparison of real world events: Kingdome of Zeal is (Atlantis), The earthbounds are the average people. Lavos is the Asteroid that killed the Dinosaurs Reptites are the Dinosaurs (duh) The 600 war is probably the crusades and European middle ages About the 3 gurus giving Chrono's party 3 gifts like the Mages, I always though these 3 gifts were more in relation with the Japanese mythology: The japanese Emperor received 3 gifts from the gods: a sword taken from a devil's body (Masamune) a magical jewel (Time Egg? or Schala / Marle's pendant) a mirror with 8 faces (ok there is only 7 time periods in CT but...) Magus shares a simple relation with Genghis Khan, who had gotten as far as Europe when he died and the Mongols were suddenly stunted in their advance (Magus perished, ending the Mystic war) The mysterious entity they talk about in the reunion is referring to the world begging this trio to help get rid of the parasite Lavos. (This refer to Gaia in Greek Mythology mother Earth) Lavos as a parasite of Galactic proportions and the dangers of finding new life in the universe. The Zeal people as the ancient Gods. The bleak future what is currently happening today, if we don't take care of our world, our home, it will eventually will die out and us with it if we don't control our over abuse of resources. Robo and the robots, The future of A.I. consciousness.
'What would you do? What would ANY of you be willing to do? To bring back your dear red-headed leader, and the hope of taking back your world's future?'
Such a damn good game, even I was kinda tearing up at the ending. Now only of we also saw her reactions to the other endings... Including the one added specifically to tie into Chrono Cross.
24:40- Not gonna lie, I was sitting there thinking 'Please make the right choice! Please make the right choice!' I was so happy you did, because if you agree to fight him, you can't get him in your party.
I’m late to this but as just one of the many pethis game has left a mark on Idc if you misspelled miss said or forgot some things. It was really nice to see this game open another heart to it. I enjoyed your play through and reaction hope this game became one of your favorites
If you think this story and ending was sad, you really ought to try Terranigma for SNES as well. A sumblimely underrated gem, since it was never released in physical form in America.
I always liked how if you travel to the future before going through the Black Omen the npcs sometimes comment on it. Like for them it's just this thing that's always been in the sky.
Feel grateful. U ar blessed to played this poetry in game's form. Even after almost 20y, this masterpiece still have an enormous emotional impact on me. And will have it until my last breath, I am sure. This game would always be one of the best things that happens to my knowledge and dreams.
You are now ready to play Chrono Cross. But I would recommend doing the side quests off chrono trigger. Just to know more about the extras of the story. (Ah yes, you need to see the secret ending before playing chrono cross!)
Aww, don't cry Sarah! Just think, one day you could go to a fair and bump into your future husband too! Moral of the story is that you have to leave your house and go to the fair to make that happen though :P I'd like to meet my future wife this way (but leaving the house is difficult when your car got stolen) Also, I cried at this ending and the ending of Kingdom Hearts II. Guess this means you have a soul after all!
And Lucca snatches someone's baby, the end XD But seriously, this version of Chrono Trigger was to link it to the next game Chrono Cross the sequel. Which is it's own beautiful mess of a game.
yup - the game ascended from great to legendary with Corridors of Time and the Ocean Palace. We all wanted so much to know Schala better and save her from her ruinous fate
I am soooo happy you made the time to complete this!! Chrono Trigger is one of the greatest games of all time and needs a serious revival. Do you have any plans to play Chrono Cross next? If so, you should check out (or just watch here) the final ending that was included in Chrono Trigger's re-release on the Nintendo DS in 2008ish and then jump in to Cross ^_^
Never, NEVER feel ashamed of crying. When you feel emotional and feel like crying, do so. It's a healthy human response. This goes for men and women of every age.
1st time here on your channel (and u got a sub btw)! I'm glad to see that u enjoyed this masterpiece! I hope u try all of endings (or the "most canon one" at least) and play Chrono Cross after that!
welcome to Chrono Trigger. It's rare to find a girl who shares the same interests with us guys, especially on video games. I hope you at least had fun playing.
I played this game in 1995, I was schoolchild, I was absorbed in playing this game in those days. Your video reminds me that's memories, thank you. It's marvel to play chrono trigger all over the world. Is it Dragonball effect?
