I also beat despair first try. It was by far the easiest of the 3. My heart rate was at 140 after despair. But he beat bad time, which truly is a very large feat.

despair is arguably the most difficult, the reason he won is because: dodging was buffed and has no cooldown and he uses a black outline which makes the death notes stand out

In my opinion despair is the hardest one of them all but the biggest misconception that people have is that dodging isn’t supposed to be spammed like this. There is a delay on attacking which makes things harder, but attacking is pretty much useless when all you can do is dodge since you have the possibility of spamming it. If there was a 2 second cooldown on dodging it would had been perfect considering that you get an attack every 5 seconds which CAN interrupt the bandit’s attack and they attack EVERY 6 seconds. So if there wasn’t the possibility to spam space bar then of course this level would had been the hardest one since you’d have to use both abilities wisely (I have beaten the song without spamming so I know what I’m talking about)
