Today, we shall become a true and genuine legend. The newest DLC for Crusader Kings 3 "Legends of the Dead" allows the player to become greater than life by spreading word of their legend throughout the world. Today, I will take Alfred the Great and turn him into Alfred the GREATEST!
What good are grand accomplishments and heroic deeds if no one sings of them after you have gone? A royal legacy is only useful, after all, if it can provide cover and legitimacy for those who come after you. Live on in the memory of your subjects and rivals in Legends of the Dead, a Core Expansion for Crusader Kings III.

Honestly the idea wouldn't have been so weird to him. Strategy games have existed for millenia, and Alfred was familiar with chess in particular. It was also relatively common to imagine what Alexander could or should have done, that kind of thought exercise. 2000 years ago, rhetores in training imagined how the war of Troy could have been avoided with the right discourse, so alt history wasn't a weird concept either. The principle of being a character in a strategy game would likely have flattered him. Now of course the technological side would be much harder to explain.

honestly im really hyped for how this DLC with make everything much more dynamic and free moving, with plagues taking away rulers, legitimacy being a fluid number, de-jure borders flip-flopping, etc.

My concern is that it will make the game dynamic and easy for the player... but not the AI. And trust me, it's not fun when the player has to be the cause for every change in Crusader Kings. It's nice to have player agency, but at its core CK works because of the emergent storytelling, not because of power fantasies.

@@Ezullof definitely agree i do have some fear of AI not being able to catch up, namely in legends. i do think that plagues will (hopefully) equalize both players and AI in terms of deadliness though

Occasionally throughout history in these middle ages when a casus belli was expected of you, there were a rare few individuals who could simply say "I am going to take this because I am entitled to it" and transcends rules just based on their fame and legend. I adore that this DLC will bring that to the game. Quite often I have a character who achieved great things (and I try to play RP wise, not optimally, so often I die doing dumb but true to trait stuff) and it seems silly that they have to seize land according to the same rules as a petty king.

I would have loved having this dlc before, I had a king of Ireland who conquered the kingdom of Alba, but he died early, so his twin boy each inherit a kingdom at 6 years old. They were at war against vassals then northerners from 6 years old to 19 years old, I didn’t married anyone so my brother will inherited the kingdom of Ireland after my death, and I fought against england to conquered everything, but died at 36 from injury. My brother took over and he stabilised the territory before creating an empire. Those twins’ life were legend, I really taught I would loose everything when they were six years old kids

Well, it seems actually texts in legend chronicles just copying each other in-game. So in-game that twin's life will just summarizing to "he meet reaper and want to being immortal but give up!! What a great legend!! End"

And do you really think that being able to have consolidated, overpowered kingdom makes for better stories and gameplay than having two sons inherit the two kingdoms? It might feel more satisfying at first. After two or three generations in game, you realize that there's nothing to do in the game but expand linearly.

Fun fact: The modern name 'Cedric' (said-rick) is actually a 17th century misspelling of 'Cerdic', first attributed to Sir Walter Scott's 1819 novel _Ivanhoe._ Also, to those who didn't know, the novel's main character, Wilfred of Ivanhoe, is who is depicted on the CK2 box art (styled after his depiction in the 1982 film adaptation).

Really like the conversation with God event. I'm hoping that "what is my purpose" event becomes a conversation with Vishnu if my ruler is Hindu, or Odin if Norse pagan, or a distant ancestor for faiths with ancestor worship. That's the kind of eye for detail I really look for in these types of games.

Its even more satisfying to do as East Anglia. Repel Ivar, take over Mercia, and become a legend along the way. Far more difficult a start, but so worth it.

I don't like what they did to sainthood. Like in ck2, you had to complete a whole list of requirements, and here you get it before you're even dead. That's bad to me.

Definitely needs a balance change, the good legitimacy bunusses should only be available at max level or close to it, and the whole claim kingdom/ duchy seems too op as legends are really easy and fast to do, so either nerft the claims or make legends take longer, maybe to like 20 - 30 years a legend to only allow for 1 legend per caracter for most cases, exept for longer living caracters, making then even more special and making the player care more about them, otherwise great update! Shme its behind a pay wall years behind its release

Legitimacy should probably have much more situational consequences, like new choices in dialogues (especially at court) and new decisions to punish revolts or avoid internal claimants. It shouldn't be mana that magically increases your territory.

How many legendary buildings can you put into one country? Assuming you make Lunden/London the capital of England, could you have it's special building the White Tower along with the Legendary Palace, Legendary Shrine, and Legendary Statue all at once in that barony?

Conslidating the whole kingdom into a different kingdom is a bit much. It really should have stuck with 1 duchy to kingdom, or 1 kingdom to empire. Seems like it'll be way to easy to be a single king emperor, as I kind of like that you have to hand off kingdoms due to rightful liege penalties.

I disagree with this take from a technical point. Powercreep as a critique only works in pvp settings where power creep is a symptom of a pay 2 win model. In crusader kings, you usually play singeplayer, and if you play multiplayer all players use the same mod-pack/dlcs, so there is no unbalance or p2w. You are not forced to buy new dlc to 'keep up with the meta' or something like that. We may agree on however on a perceived gap between the value of added dlc content vs the associated price tag, a known issue with various paradox interactive games

Yeah consolidating kingdoms should have much drastic prerequisites and should only be possible under specific conditions. Not at will like that. In fact, it should only be possible at all for smallish kingdoms. Like the various spanish kingdoms - sure, they can absorb each other with enough legitimacy to from Spain gradually. But England and Ireland? Nope.

@@Ezullof At the same time, some kingdom titles never existed before lands were united. For example scandinavia has kingdoms that never existed or were de jure until after the country was united. De jure drift should take time but preexisting de jure kingdoms claim things before they should exist, maybe tribes should have a different system for drift than feudal kingdoms, something less dependent on titles and more on equal inheritance.

It looks like you had fun, but i'm really worried about the balance of these new mechanics. It looks like there is more conquests, more stability, and more consolidation. You played only one character though, so it could be interesting to see how your heirs will manage the empire you created there. However, even if this character was especially successful, you still managed to finish 3 legends and had more legitimacy you could ever dream of. This was a sponsored video, so you kept all the juicy parts of course, but as much as it should be fun to be a legend... If every character is able to complete 3 legends and create 2 empires on his lifetime, the fun will quickly evaporate.

What's the point of consolidating kingdom? Isn't it more beneficial to be Emperor with Dukes under you, as that way they still consider you their de-jure liege but can't desire a kingdom when it doesn't exist? And then once your Empire is too huge that you're above your vassal limit, that's when you start forming kingdom titles to consolidate dukes under them. When I was reading the DevDiaries I thought the consolidate kindgom decision was to instantly de-jure drift a kingdom into your empire. But if it's to join another kingdom with your kingdom, I see little use of that.

I think the best dlc may be Fate of Iberia or T&T; Royal Court in theory was the best dlc ever because of the royal court feature, but it actually is almost unrelated to all the rest of the game and ignore it doesn't give any serious problem, however the cultures rework is very good.

Ancestral Claim feels kinda meh even it's can absorb the entirety Empire. Because there will be some vassals who still rebel you in this case the Pagans Norse remain your vassals which is hate your Ruler. Holy War still better against heathen enemies.
